Plotline:

It’s the summer of 1658, and Albany Barwicke is coming of age. Soon she’ll be eighteen years old, people will start to see her as a woman and not as a child, she’ll finally be out of her father’s manipulative grasp, and, most importantly for her, she’ll be able to marry for love instead of because she has to. That is…if she can find that love before her eighteenth birthday.
The deal she made with her father was simple:
She would not be forced to marry at the age of twelve like most of the girls in her village and like her older sister Dominique, but if she hadn’t found the right man by the day she turned eighteen, she would marry a man of his choice. At the time, she’d said yes…because in her little mind, her future husband would be right around the corner, and it was crazy to think she wouldn’t have him before then…
With the sudden realisation that her birthday is just around the corner, and she’s yet to find anyone that she desires to have become her husband, but horrified at the idea of being forced into a life she doesn’t want, she tries any means she can to hopefully find the man of her dreams. But, sadly, all to no avail. That is, until one day at a local market, when she bumps into a young man…
He’s sweet, charming, handsome, he makes her laugh…he seems perfect, and she feels sparks whenever he looks at her…and deep down, she’s sure he’s the one…but there’s just one problem…
He’s the son of the baker in the village…not the son of a Lord, or a Prince, or anyone of real authority. And she knows that if she tells her father, he’ll completely dismiss her and marry her off to some fourty-year-old widowed Duke or anyone who can afford to buy her from him.
Time is running out. Will Albany be able to convince her father that she should marry her newly-found lover, or will she be married off to live unhappily ever after?

For Albany’s older sister, Dominique, life is about to get a whole lot more difficult. Rather than continuously fight to escape being married at a young age like her younger sibling, she embraced it: it was a tradition in most families at the time, and she felt proud to carry on that tradition. So, true to her father’s word, she’d been wedded the week after her twelfth birthday.
Since then, she’d blossomed into a beautiful teenage girl, and then into an even more beautiful young woman. And in the same time, her husband had transformed into an equally dazzling and handsome young man. But, unfortunately for Dominique, along with all that dazzle and charm had come a lust for most of the other women in the village. A lust that she was very clearly aware of.
Fearful that he would not be faithful to her, and angry at the thought of being ridiculed by him and everyone else if he was not, she begins an affair with the son of a local wealthy Lord in a feeble attempt to restore her dignity, believing that nobody would ever find out, she would have piece of mind knowing that she hadn’t been the victim of anything that he hadn’t, and that nothing would ever come of it.
She had no idea how wrong she was.
Soon, she is filled with dread, worry and the overwhelming feeling of total helplessness as she discovers she is pregnant with another man’s baby, a man that is not her husband. She cannot tell her husband, as she knows he‘ll divorce her and everyone will find out. She cannot tell her family, as she knows they’ll disown her and leave her to fend for herself. So she does the only thing she can think to do, and tells the child’s father.
At first, he does not believe her; but when she breaks down in tears in front of her, he holds her and tells her that he’ll be there for both her and the baby when it’s born. His only condition…
If she wants to be with him, she has to leave her husband. For good.
Now, struggling to decide whether she should stay with her husband for the benefit of her reputation, or leave him and be with this other man for the benefit of her unborn child, she must make one of the hardest decisions she has to make. Will she leave him? Will she stay? Or will she choose to run away from everyone and never come back?
