Caspea slowed to a lope, adrenalin pumping through her limbs. She sniffed at the air, following signs of prey with her nose. After a few miles her nose picked up the scent of a doe. Fresh. You boys smell that? She slowed her gait and tracked the scent all the way to a clearing full of deer, lazily munching on grass. Her tail raised to signal the others as she began to stalk beside the tree line. From her angle the lead buck was at the opposite end of the herd, way out of eye shot. She knew to watch out for them. They were stronger and much more dangerous with that tree on their head. Focusing her eyes on a doe she spotted one with a limp near the herd's edge. Perfect. She turned and walked further into the forest again. Okay boys. We have a limp doe on the outskirts. The buck is out of the way. Hotch you and I will split the herd, you drive off the herd we don't want by howling and snapping at their hooves. While you have them busy I'll veer the sick one into the tree line. Rafe while we're doing this I want you to stay in the trees, I'll lead the doe directly to you, when she gets close enough go in for her legs. We can finish her off together depending on your paw. She sat straight up. Sound like a plan? She was usually the first to stage an attack plan, usually the best ones.

Hotch sat and patiently listened to Caspea's plan, leaning over and scratching his ear with his hind leg. He was grateful she was the one coming up with the plan. That way his inexperience wouldn't show. He figured if he stuck to her plan and, if it didn't work, he would not be the one to blame. I think I can do that, he replied when she asked. The egg meal earlier would give him enough strength for a hunt. He turned to look at the larger male to gauge his approval. Something about him gave Hotch the opinion that he was the more experienced hunter of the three. Perhaps because of his size. He must have been fed really well as a pup, Hotch thought, scratching his ear again. His mind pictured all the delicious meat that a doe could bring and his stomach growled loudly.

Rafe nodded slowly to Caspea's plan. He watched Caspea's eyes as he saw the fire and energy burning in them. Hotch seemed sorta skittish though. I don't really trust that wolf, just a gut feeling I have. Rafe growled to himself. Even injured he wouldn't let either of them push him around. He was superior, at least to Hotch, he found it hard to get angry with Caspea, he thought it odd himself. Even though Hotch gave him an uneasy feeling, he remained quiet, Until he does something that I don't like, I'll see what he can do and play this little game. Rafe gave a wolfy grin to himself. I can do that. Rafe gave a happy bark to the two as he lay in the tall grass. This was the most he'd enjoyed himself for awhile. Rafe wasn't especially hungry, but eating something would just give him more energy. I'll wait right here then. he smiled as he couldn't wait to show off his strength.

Caspea nodded to them both. Let's get started then. She nudged Hotch with her shoulder as she brushed past him. Keeping low to the ground she stalked forward, until they'd gotten around 100 feet away from the unsuspecting herd. Okay Hotch, make your move, I'll jump up after they start running. She coiled her paws beneath her, prepared at any given moment to strike out with her fangs.

Hotch nodded and separated from Caspea, creeping up to the group. He scanned the herd to look for the one that was injured. It was very easy to spot her trailing behind the other deer, limping along as they grazed. The bull deer was near her and looked up in alert. Hotch paused, holding his breath and hoping that he hadn't just screwed up the whole thing. Seconds past...it seemed like ages to Hotch before the bull relaxed and returned to grazing. Slooowly, Hotch thought, inching along again up to the herd. He was 20 feet away when he saw the injured doe stumble and try to regain its ground a few steps away from the herd. Sensing an opportunity, he bolted toward the rest of the herd, howling. Everything was caught by surprise as they bolted away from the young wolf. He glanced over to make sure the injured doe was falling behind before doubling his efforts, snapping at the hooves of the fleeing deer.

So far so good. Rafe watched from the trees. He lay ready to attack when Caspea would bring the injured doe his way. I hope Hotch can handle this. Rafe growled out loud to himself, Caspea looks like she can handle it, but i've been wrong before. Rafe waited for his cue, waiting and hoping nothing would go wrong.

Caspea dashed out and herded the injured doe away from the rest, growling and snapping at her hooves. The doe huffed ad cried as she tried her best to trot away from the advancing wolf. She howled to Rafe Get ready! and nipped the deer's rear to get her moving in the right direction. She followed Rafe's scent back to the treeline, as the doe reached their destination Caspea sunk her fangs into the doe's uninjured hind leg, to keep her from attempting an escape.

Rafe saw the doe and launched at it. He grabbed the doe's throat and forced her to the ground. He vigorously ripped and tore at its throat. He muffled to Caspea with fur in his mouth, Go help Hotch, I can take care of the rest. Rafe's powerful jaws crushed the doe's neck and she eventually died from suffocation. Rake looked at himself, dried mud and blood stained his fur, it was just like that night.

Hotch wasn't too sure how long he was suppose to keep up the chase of the herd as they rounded a hill, leaving the injured doe and both of his wolf counterparts behind. It was getting confusing with all the trees and bushes around to keep the deer from turning back around to the field. How can something have so much energy?![/] he thought as he huffed and snapped again at a hoof. [i]How long have I been running? The yearling paused in his chase, panting hard to catch his breath. The herd continued to thunder through the forest ahead of him, fading away through the dense underbrush. Hope that's enough, Hotch gasped, turning around and heading back to the clearing. Because that's about all the energy I have left. Better be worth it. He licked his jaws in anticipation of a feast of meat, one that he had not experienced since he was a young pup.

Caspea howled to Hotch and trotted to find him. The adrenalin still pumped hard through her veins and she howled again for the pure joy of the hunt. She found Hotch and play-tackled him, yipping and biting playfully. You did great Hotch! Now let's hurry before Rafe eats it all. She jumped off of him and loped into the trees.

Rafe began to tear into it, but didn't eat any of it, he did it out of kindness. He didn't know if the others would take it offensively, but just didn't know how good their jaw strength was. He lay down next to the dead doe, licking his paw since he tore his pad a little. Rafe waited for the others to come to this spot, so they could feast together from this marvelous hunt.

Hotch allowed Caspea to tackle him, grinning and still panting hard. I did it! he yipped, jumping up and racing after her. We did it! he barked again. His heart still pounded from the chase, though, and he had a hard time keeping up with the female. Once they got to the kill Hotch sad down in the shade and had to rest a while. Hunger gnawed at his stomach but he was panting too hard to even think about eating until he calmed down. Good job, Rafe, he panted, licking his chops.

Caspea panted and sat beside the two males. She raised her muzzle to the sky as a howl ripped through her lungs. She began the "kill-song" as her pack used to call it. Her howl had a melodious lilt to it, an art she'd perfected over the two years she'd been with her adopted pack. She hoped the rest would join her.
