Introduction
They were the Dragons.
The Dragons were split into two major species.
One was the Europan species, native to the land that would separate because of tectonic plates and become Europe and Northern Canada. This race was the Fire-Breathing type. In addition to fire breath, they also possessed the ability to burrow. They resided in caves deep below the surface and occasionally came up to hunt land animals such as prehistoric deer. Their fighting style focuses on defense, staying close to the ground while flying, and using all limbs, claws, and tail to fight.
This race was commonly referenced as flying, fire-breathing demons who slew heroes and ate dames. This is an old tale that was passed down through the Neolithic Age and was probably altered by the changing times. No Europan Dragons, or any dragon for that matter, had lived through the impact.
The other species was the Asiatic Dragons, native to what would become the eastern seaboard of China and Taiwan. This race was the Wind-Commanding type. While they could not breath fire, Asiatic Dragons were able to bend wind (and through wind, storms) to their will. This made made hunting easy, allowing the dragons to fly nearly as faster than their prey, which was, most commonly, birds. These Dragons resided on the tops of mountains or in caves near the top. Their fighting style depended much on their Wind-Commanding ability, using surges of air against their enemies and quickly fleeing in case of real danger. Thus, they had a sort of guerilla warfare.
This race was seen by the people of East Asia as wise, friendly, and life-givng. This is probably another old tale that was passed down and altered. As mentioned before, no Dragon had survived the Impact.
Interaction between the two species was minimal, but were almost always friendly.
THE IMPACT
Around 65.5 Million Years Ago, an impact event occurred. Known as the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event to humans, this event caused the extinction of many species and the near extinction of Dragons. Asiatic Dragons were easily wiped out in their exposed habitats and few eggs survived as many of the nests were exposed as well. Some Europan Dragons lucky enough to have been deep underground during the event were now relieved of their food source, as not many animals survived. Soon, some turned to eating their own eggs. Fighting over eggs and famine probably lead the the dying out of living Europan Dragons and the reduction in number of Europan Eggs.
THE EGGS
The eggs themselves remained in a 'stasis-mode' mush like plant seeds until either the stored food runs out or living conditions improved. Throughout the 2000 AD years in human time, some eggs completely depleted their food sources while others decided that conditions were favorable enough and hatched.
You are a dragon borne from these eggs.
How would you survive in this human-dominated world?
And, What would you become?
