Introduction

75 years ago, first contact was made with extraterrestrial life. It was 2020, and it had been many years since the first satellite, dubbed Reperio, had been sent into outer space with the hopes of communicating with life on another planet. When the first alien transmissions came through, Earth could hardly believe it, let alone comprehend that we’d be able to understand one another like we did.

70 years passed and Earth came to know these aliens as the Kismet. Once a year we would receive and send information to each other and on the 30th year of correspondence, the Kismet gave us the coordinates to their home planet.

On the 50th anniversary of our contact the Kismet and Humans arranged for a peaceful meeting on the Kismet's home world. Humans would travel to their planet, known as Epoch, and we would set up an embassy there. Once established, we would take a selection of Kismet and do the same on Earth, essentially founding the first inter-galactic treaty.

This agreement would happen under the premise that we would begin to trade Epochian knowledge and resources, but especially in their biological engineering; and in turn the Kismet would benefit from our technology and resources knowledge.

However when we arrived, we were not prepared for the slaughter that was the betrayal of the Kismet...

On the 70th year anniversary of contact we arrived at Epoch. A few thousand individuals who had been chosen to go, had departed from Earth upon the great vessel Primitia in 2070. Once landed, we began to create our Embassy. However, it wasn't even a year when they began to capture us. Slowly and quietly at first, but soon it was publicly known the Kismet had kidnapped about 500 humans for the purpose of torturing us and using us for our knowledge of Earth.

So began a 4 year battle with the Kismet that saw the humans who had been brought to the planet under false pretenses, wage a guerilla-style war against the traitors. Fortunately for us, being a cautious species, we were slightly prepared for what occurred. On the giant ship Primitia rested many emergency vehicles and around 2000 humans were able to escape, but only to other areas around Epoch. From there, our resistance grew and we were able to establish ourselves again, in secret this time, on the planet.

Four years have passed and humans number in around the few thousand and to add to our burden we are all doomed to die.

It all began when the first humans were kidnapped... Seeing how resilient our species was to viral outbreaks and diseases they used us to create biological weapons that would help them begin to expand around the universe. Humans happened to be the closest sentient species and we were perfect for first attack, world colonization and experimentation. When we were first captured, they used their advanced knowledge of biogenetics to develop a mutagen virus that was supposed to only affect us. They experimented vastly on us and from their haste to eradicate us they released the virus into their atmosphere hoping it would infect all of us that remained in hiding.

But it didn’t kill us… Instead its effects were far worse…

It disfigured and transformed those first infected into hideous monsters that, in turn, infected anything they managed to maul. The Kismet’s haste to rid their world of the un-captured survivors was foolish and costly. The infection spread so rapidly and was so unstable it was quickly out of the Kismet’s control and soon after it began to infect even them, their native fauna, and then even their flora too. Epoch was falling.

It’s nearing the 75th Anniversary of the day Epoch made contact with Earth and in 72 hours, according to reliable human guerilla Intel, the Kismet are leaving Epoch... earthbound… They’re going to destroy the human race using a revised virus, then cultivate earth as their new home as they have destroyed theirs.

Their brutal efforts to understand everything about us, including our location - which had been kept secret- was successful. They will leave for Earth, with what Kismet people they have left unaffected and extinguish their own world to be rid of the last humans who are their only threat for once and for all.

That is, unless you stop them…

You have barely survived the past four years… The virus the Kismet unleashed upon the humans has lain - unknown until recently - dormant within your body. But signs have begun to surface that suggest all humans on Epoch are doomed to mutate… A small glitch in genetics has allowed for you and others to stay the virus until now...

All hope for you saving earth is lost, no one can warn earth because if you were to return the virus would surely destroy earth more than the Kismet could hope to… You are stuck on Epoch left with realization that Earth is vulnerable to destruction… Humanity has no way to know that it is living its last thirty years is blissful ignorance.

BUT… There is a rumor of one woman, a geneticist and bio-engineer named Alyssa Erde. She is the only known human left alive who is completely immune to the mutagen that now plagues Epoch. Ironically she also developed the means to test humans for the deadly mutagenic virus, and also by fate is the only one to be completely immune. Adding to her incredible fate it is apparent there is one last working human escape ship that can cryogenically freeze her and preserve her for the 30 year return to earth. If she leaves within the 72 hours of the Kismet's anticipated leaving, she can engage the escape pods temporary hyperspace drive and get five years ahead of the Kismet.

These rumors are wild and ravage Epoch’s surviving humans with hope that their home can be saved.

72 hours are counting down… Alyssa must get to that escape ship and travel to Earth before the Kismet reach it first… She must warn Earth of the great threat it faces...

And hopefully with your help, Alyssa can do it.

Unfortunately you’ll be dead in 72 hours... You can't make it back to earth, you can't stop the Kismet destroying Epoch... But will you spend those last hours with your loved ones? Will you get revenge on those that have brought this doom upon you... Will you help save Alyssa or allow Earth to fall to the same fate you have...? Will you be a hero or a coward?

No matter the choice, you will die. But what is yours to decide is; whether your last hours count.

No God Modding

Your character will die in the end... No exceptions.

For the sake of creativity and so that we don't clash with ideas, I've deliberately not specified what the Kismet, Humans, and Epoch look like. That is for us all to decide. So I ask that you respect other people when they establish surroundings and what certain characters look like if they create them.

Also, actual living Kismet should play a very scarce role since most of Epoch has fallen to the mutagen.

Sean felt his mind begin to slow and the world started to go black as his skin and muscles screamed in painful agony. As his mind swirled, Sean soon realised his jaw wasn't clenched shut and he opened his mouth to scream in agony and a thunderous roar filled the air. Then a few dull thuds hit Sean's large arm and he looked down to see a man firing a gun at him. "DON'T!" is all Sean could coherently shout as bent down and swiped his hand hard at Derek, just missing him as he turned to run after Dean and Kyna.

Sean stood back up straight and flexed his muscles, feeling the sensation of how much stronger he was now. The exoskeleton feeling stiff but protective and powerful. Sean bellowed again and began to follow the three people that had just run from them. "HUNGRY!" was all he could muster as he chased them through the trees. Moving was somewhat difficult. Sean's massive size was hard to maneuver through the trees, but his now incredibly strength and hard exoskeleton meant he had no trouble smashing trees down, and pain wasn't even an issue when he slammed his body into the trees as he started a run now.

"HUNGRY!" he bellowed as he caught sight of Kyna and Dean. "STAY!" he grunted loudly as he swiped to the ground, just missing Dean. Sean swiped his hand back and forth and the back of his giant hand caught Kyna and sent her flying across the way, through the trees and out onto a road - they had run to the first streets of the outskirts of the city. Sean felt something fire at his arms and turned and saw Dean standing there. Sean pulled his leg back and slammed his foot into the ground causing it to shake and actually crack. Sean then turned to the direction in which he had sent Kyna flying and began to trudge there roaring, "HUNGRY!".

Kyna tried to scream but no sound left her agape lips. The horrified disbelief of what Sean had transformed into before her eyes was causing her mind to spin and she stumbled back. She felt a hand grasp her shoulder and she spun, hair ed fporflying like flames as Dean looked at her.

"Run." Was all he said, with a quiet authority that Kyna had no mind in challenging. She saw him raise his weapon as she sprinted for the forest, her heart racing as she heard the beast they once called 'Sean' thundering after them. She turned to see the Dean following behind her and then Derek catch up. She could see the canopy of the forest trembling as the fifty feet of Sean lumbered after them.

"If we keep this pace up he'll lose track of us." Derek said, loud enough for Kyna to hear and she nodded, to no-one in particular. Her wrist was throbbing, and so were her temples. She turned again, to see if she could see the giant. She couldn't believe that within moments, Sean had been well, normal and then... He had turned into something out of a fantasy novel. And had a lust for human flesh. These mutations were cruel and almost fascinating and if Kyna weren't infected, and if their world wasn't about to be destroyed, she would have loved to study it, it's origin. Perhaps with Alyssa... Kyna's mind hardened. Once upon a time, the human races' extinction would have been something Kyna welcomed, but after these months on Epoch, she had grown to see the human spirit was not some message people spread to support their actions. She had seen the strength and bravery and friendship human beings can have, can show. And Kyna wanted to help preserve that.

That and the geology of Earth. Kyna's mind slowed and her brow furrowed. Things seemed quieter, perhaps they had lost him...

"HUNGRY! STAY!"

Kyna's eyes widened as she saw the enormous hand wiping towards her and all she could manage was a "oh." Kyna suddenly felt the wind pushing against her body as she flew uncontrollably through the air, her face stinging as branches tore her skin and then the agony as she collided with the hard rough surface of a road. She skipped along the rock, like a stone on water, her insipid skin burning and wet with blood and bruises. She could see the blood pumping, mushrooming like rain-clouds beneath her clear skin. She came to a stop, landing on her back. Kyna's breaths were short, light and her eyesight was fading to black.

The plan would've worked, or, probably, Dean knew. By this time they'd arrived just at the outskirts of the city, and if they could progress any further, though it was dangerous in many of the houses with unforeseen dangers, he was sure they could've lost the monstrosity that was once Sean in any of the buildings. The one hitch however that they encountered was the massive hand that came swooping down through the air, collecting Kyna and throwing her off to the side, her limp figure coming down hard on the asphalt several meters away. Immediately Dean had altered courses to try to assist the woman, but the heavy, now-armored foot of Sean's had come crashing down before him, causing the earth to shake and split and sending the man stumbling back.

Perhaps it wasn't worth it, the hit was powerful and the way she was sent soaring away would've killed most people, but then again he had to check for the watch of Alyssa's. He knew she'd picked it up prior, and currently he was cursing over it.

"Derek!" he shouted, "Cover me!"

Without even thinking further, Dean knew waiting would probably stop him from doing what he was about to do. He was going to die anyway, but currently he needed that watch which was currently in Kyna's possession, and, as he hadn't seen her drop it, he knew he'd need to acquire it before Sean fulfilled his screams of hunger. He didn't waste any time in firing, but instead simply bolted forward. Sean's steps were large and could cover a fair amount of distance, but Dean was quick and he was certain that his running pace could outdo the beast as he dashed in between his legs, staying as low and wary as he possibly could to avoid being clobbered and thrown away like a rag-doll, like Kyna.

As he approached the idle figure, he ignored any and all screams of protests from the behemoth behind him, but then he had to decide exactly what to do next. Leave the girl, take the device, or try getting them both? Her state, he had to admit wasn't the prettiest, and being able to see through her skin made things all the worse, but nonetheless, while she was still capable of producing coherent thoughts, and he only assumed she was, and while he could see just the tiniest amount of light, though fading in her eyes as she drifted into a state of unconsciousness, or death, she might be of use. Either way, Dean had all this sorted out within a second, though made sure to detach himself so he could truly promise that if worse came to worse, he'd spare everyone and a bullet, if only for the sake of humanity.

Picking up the girl, he didn't have time to dig through her person to collect the watch anyway, so instead he simply made a beeline for the nearest house. Although she wasn't at all heavy, he was still slowed, but not enough yet to be caught by Sean whom he knew was probably still in pursuit. Derek, hopefully, he thought, could figure out to just run by now, and he could loop around once things settled, but until such times, Dean's only thoughts were to get to the relative safety of one of the buildings. Once there, the maze of halls and doors and back exits would provide adequate coverage for an escape deeper into the city, and hopefully closer to wherever Alyssa had been taken.

Derek his words weren't even cold when the giant hand swooped Kyna off the ground. Derek followed the ragdoll as it flew in the sky and smacked down at the asphalt. He knew then and there that the prospects for Kyna wouldn't be really in her favor. He turned around now and aimed his rifle to Sean. He didn't have a clear shot at this position, just as he turned around to tell Dean to get going, he noticed the man dash away towards Knyna.
The giant foot blocked his way and Derek feared for a moment that Dean would have been reduced to a pool of squished meat.

"Derek! Cover me!" he heard now and Derek grinned a bit, he quickly flanked to the other way, away fro mDean and Kyna and he lined his shots up. Round after round were fired towards Sean now, aimed for his big head, trying to hit him in the eye. If it would hit, Derek was pretty Sure that Sean would divert his attention to him. "Come on, show me that pretty eye of yours..." He murmered and kept firing a few rounds.

He had lost sight of Dean and started to make more noise now, shouting to Sean to get his attention. He didn't however wait for him to react and started going from cover to cover. He ran outside the treeline hearing Sean bellow and crush down trees. Once he made contact with the outskirts of the city, he realised he could easily hide in one of the houses. Hooking up with Dean would be a worry for later, right now, he had to get rid of Sean. He rushed into a larger house and went to the higher floor to get a decent overview. He checked the ammo on his rifle and changed mag while he waited for Sean his reaction. From outside the room he was in now, he had a decent overview in the street, his eyes scanning for trouble or Dean.
