The pain was horrible.

It came at him like ocean waves, slow and steady. One second, he felt nothing. The next, he could hardly stand it. It was all over his body. His head pounded, his torso felt like it was torn apart, and his legs felt as if they were made of lead, slowly tearing off his body like fabric coming loose at the seams. He didn't know where he was, what had happened. He barely had the energy to think things through and figure out what what was happening.

All he knew was that he was in pain.

Slowly, it began to ebb away, and he slipped into a more conscious state of peacefulness. His senses slowly awakened. What did he feel? Not just hurt, but a cold chill around him. The smooth feel of glossy wood under his fingertips. Something circular pressing up against his head. He was in a sitting position, somewhere. What could he see? He opened his eyes. At first, it was just a blinding light. But it faded, it dimmed into a darker scene, with specks of white falling in front of him. There was something, a frame, surrounding the scene he was looking at. What could he smell? Smoke. Leather. What did he taste? The bitter, metallic tang of blood. His mouth was dry. What did he hear? Blistering wind. The sound of his steady heartbeat, his breathing. It was odd. He felt so alone, so isolated. Finally, he worked up the strength to at least raise his head. He was staring out of a broken and shattered wall of glass, with more white flecks dashing his vision. There was nothing but white and black in front of him.

He let out a quiet groan as he began to sit up. His back ached, and pain lashed throughout his body. It was a slow realization. He was in a car. He had been driving, in a huge blizzard, hoping that the tires that he hadn't yet changed wouldn't slip, and maybe he would get to his destination safely...

He reached out a hand, grimacing at the sight of his arm. His once white long-sleeved shirt was stained with a dark black-red. The fabric was torn, revealing what looked like a long cut that had torn open his flesh, raised his skin to a ridge. Cautiously, pushing away the pain that tugged at him, he opened the door beside him, and stumbled out onto the road. Immediately he was blinded by white flakes. He fell to his knees, his hands landing in a soft, but frozen blanket of fresh snow.

It was somewhere in that darkness, somewhere amidst the white snow burning his hands and clouding his vision, hidden in the navy blue of the night did he see the sign.

'Vacancy'

Rising to his feet unsteadily, he began towards his only hope of surviving the snow storm, and maybe getting help for his injuries. There would be people there too, and he would be fine. The storm would pass, and everything would be fine. Just fine. Fine.

It's late evening when a snow storm suddenly hits a small town in the forest-land in Northern U.S.A. Some people are just passing through when their vehicle slips on the road, and they crash. Some people decide that they shouldn't go any further or they could get injured. Some are part of the small town, and were ­­­­near the Motel when the storm started, and had no choice but to take refuge there. Only a few people get inside before the owner closes the doors, figuring that they only had enough supplies to take care of those people for a few days, a few weeks, however long the storm was going to last.

No one knows the other. They are all complete strangers, or only recognize the person's face briefly, maybe their first name. But for some, it's a chance to have a whole knew identity. A different name, a different personality. Not all these people are good. Some could be criminals, murderers or thieves. Some could be completely crazy. But they all have to live with one another and work together to survive the cold. No heat, no warmth, no electricity. The fuel line is frozen. No signal is available.


For some, the only worry is surviving in the cold. For others, the only worry is surviving with the people they are surrounded by.
