Dominant Emotion || Indifference

- Personality -
As far as first impressions go, Kain appears to be a mature and somewhat mysterious man. He holds himself confidently, with the composure of someone who's barely phased by the world around him. Most who first meet him may see him as a strong, respectable person who has a sense of intelligence that far exceeds his age. He's detached from others, but his aloofness often leads to people being curious of him. There are plenty who admire him as well. After all, having such a high rank despite being so young is quite impressive, so he's pretty popular amongst youth who hope to also become powerful Keepers.

However, the way strangers perceive someone is most often incorrect and usually biased. Those who spend enough time with him to see past the rank placed over his head will no doubt see sides of him that the media overlooks. Kain's not exactly the most pleasant person to be around, as he's incredibly blunt and a little insulting, talking down on others without a hint of remorse. He's annoyed easily, especially if someone interrupts him when he's in the middle of doing something. He can be unbelievably condescending at times, contradicting his distaste of self-centered personalities. Though some might not notice, this behavior is merely a sort of defense to keep others from wanting to become friends with him.

Pulling back the outside layer, Kain's not nearly as narcissistic and mouthy as he pretends to be. In fact, he couldn't care less about the rank he walks under, finding the ranking system that the Council abides by to be quite dumb and unnecessary, even if it may be a more or less accurate way to measure someones power. Kain doesn't view himself to be as important or amazing as other like to. He's actually surprisingly humble, quick to ignore or push away any praise he receives. His social skills aren't so terrible either, as he finds little difficulty in talking casually with strangers. On the other hand, he tends to react awkwardly towards unexpected kindness and may even shy away from genuine affection.

His role as Guild Master is something he takes quite seriously, but his words and actions may cause others to assume otherwise. He's laid back and not very leader-like, showing little concern for the war that the Ruinosus are waging against humans. However, when it comes down to it, he can be shockingly assertive, shouting orders and calculating his actions carefully and precisely. He doesn't take well to selfishness, though he's admittedly a little selfish himself, and has no trouble enforcing discipline if he finds it necessary to do so. As harsh as he may seem, though, he can be fairly friendly and even kind in his own way if you believe in tough love.

His view on the war brewing between humans and Ruinosus would probably be looked at as odd for someone of his position. Humans aren't all purity and justice and Ruinosus aren't just evil and darkness. Throughout history humans have been known to murder and steal, wiping out any obstacle that gets in the way of their desires, not that he's taking the side of the Ruinosus either. They've destroyed homes and lives as well, but he doesn't think it's his place to establish what is good and what is evil. Like he read in a story once; war doesn't determine who is right, only who is left.

- Talents -
Observing - Kain pays an incredible amount of attention to detail. He can read how someone is feeling just by watching their body movements, which also come in handy when in a fight. He's very aware of his surroundings, so sneaking up on him is seemingly impossible.
Piano - His mother took the time to teach him how to play, so he's quite good and is rather fond of the instrument.
Art - Another things he's fond of, but not so open to admit it. Since he wasn't fond of playing with other children, he spent most of his time drawing and has grown to be a fairly talented artist, especially when using paints.
Reverse Psychology - Kain can be a little manipulative sometimes, but he's become particularly skilled in the art of using reverse psychology to get people to do what he wants them to.
Hand-to-Hand Combat - He doesn't need a weapon to fight his battles. Kain has been trained in hand-to-hand since he was a child and was taught to never rely solely on a weapon alone.
Multilingual - With his vast knowledge of a plethora of languages and being able to speak them fluently, he has no problem traveling to many places and being able to speak with the natives freely.
Pain Tolerance - Even as a child Kain was a pretty tough kid, never crying to his mother if he got hurt and always trying to patch himself up instead. It takes quite the beating to keep him on the ground and he's very good at ignoring pain, usually not feeling the real heat of his injuries until after a fight is over.

- Flaws -
Unmotivated - Laziness is something that has a habit of dragging him down from time to time. If he can't find the motivation to do something, unless it's an emergency he simply won't do it.
Stubborn - Despite his young age, Kain is a highly experienced Keeper and is pretty set in his ways of doing things, so he can be pretty stubborn when it comes to being told he's wrong about something and it can take a while before he acknowledges his mistakes.
Lack of Direction - Kain has absolutely no sense of direction whatsoever and would even get lost in the simplest of structures if not for the help of his Demon.

- Weaknesses -
Attachments - Kain has always worked better alone with the only company being his Demon. If he's around others whom he considers allies he can become easily distracted and has a tendency to worry too much about their well-being. It's obvious that he's less focused on his safety during a fight if those he cares about are fighting with him.
His Mother - His mother is the most precious person in the world to him, and Kain would do anything to keep her safe even if it meant turning his back on his allies.
Consistent Heat - Kain can defend himself quite easily from heat and fire, but not if it's consistent. If fire is being thrown at him piece by piece he has no trouble blocking, but he can only protect himself from constant heat for at least 3 minutes.

- Hobbies -
Walking - Anytime Kain needs to clear his head he'll disappear to go for a stroll, often without telling anyone. He'd prefer to do this alone, but his Demon always follows close behind since without him Kain would just end up getting lost somewhere.
Sketching - Finding a quiet place just to sit and sketch is quite relaxing and any time Kain goes for one of his walks he usually takes a small sketchbook and pen along with him.
Collecting - Being as he's traveled to a majority of places, any time he goes somewhere new he likes to collect things that he thinks his mother might like and send them to her.

- Powers -
Ice Manipulation - The basic ability anyone with the area of ice possesses. Kain can manipulate and control ice at will. Ice does not need to be present in order for him to use his power, as he's capable of creating his own. The ice that he creates has a much stronger form.
Shield - By covering parts of his body with extremely compacted ice, he can block just about any weapon with that part of his body. He can also use this to harden his fists, shoes, legs, ect. to deal heavy blows to an enemy. These shields are incredibly hard to break, but not impossible and may shatter if struck repeatedly.
Body of Ice - By lowering the temperature of his body and forming a thin layer of frost over his skin, clothes, and hair, normal fire will have little to no effect on him. By constantly replacing the frost, he can continue to use this to reduce damage from fire users, but replacing it over and over for long periods of time can be tiring.
Frostbite - Frostbite occurs when blood vessels constrict, and in a third degree case, muscles, tendons and nerves in the body freeze. All Kain has to do is touch someone/thing to cause frostbite to form in that area, resulting in painful blistering and hardening of the skin and, depending on the amount of power used, a possible loss of body parts.
Liquid Solidification - As long as it has or had a liquid form, Kain can turn it to ice and use it how he pleases. Be it water, oil, steam, and even blood, once it's been frozen he has full control over it.
Blue Lips - By cooling his breath and breathing into the mouth of another, he can freeze the liquid in their throat, resulting in painful suffocation. Of course this usually requires him to place his lips on or very close to the lips of another, so he's not so keen on using it on anything that doesn't look human. This can also be used to soothe a sore throat if he simply cools instead of freezes.
Frigid Blades - Kain can create weapons, more specifically bladed weapons, by shaping ice into the weapon he wants. These are usually for temporary use, but are still quite strong and razor sharp. With this he can create weapons for both long-range and short-range battles and has a unlimited use of them.
Blizzard - This usually works better if snow is already present in the environment, but Kain can also create snow by freezing the moisture in the air to form snowflakes. The next step is to basically use the snow to create a blizzard around the area where the battle is taking place. This is a move Kain made up after witnessing a Wind user do something similar, only Kain manipulates the snow around him to form the blizzard instead of wind. This is mostly used to distract an enemy and make it more difficult for them to concentrate.

- Special Power -
Death of Winter - This is a move that Kain has only used once when he was young and has avoided using it since. Once he gathers and builds up the energy that gives him his power, he can project it outward, freezing everything within a forty feet radius. Bodies will turn to complete ice, as well as anything that is in the area at the time. The only way to escape this is if Kain shields you with his own ice before activating his attack. Whatever is left behind will shatter an become nothing more than a pile of freezing shards on the icy ground.

- Secondary Area -
Cleansing - The power to extract the evil from any being. Even if there is only a sliver of light left, as long as that being hasn't been completely devoured Kain can use Cleansing to force away the darkness. This process can be quite painful for the one being cleansed, however, and may leave them feeling rather exhausted after the process is complete. Once Kain has already used this on someone/thing once, it cannot be done a second time.

- Skill Set -
Katana - Kain has been trained in the art of the katana since he was young and has mastered it years ago. His katana, never given a name, is specifically made to be compatible with his ability. By coating the blade in freezing ice, it can cut through practically anything.
Hand-to-Hand - If by any chance he's left without his weapon, he's still quite capable of fighting without it. Of course he can just as easily create weapons from ice and use those as well, but he has no real need to rely on his power to fight.

Image
- Typical Attire -
Never the type to care much about fashion or popular trends, Kain prefers to dress as comfortably and casually as possible. He's most commonly seen in sweat pants and a plain t-shirt, often wearing the matching sweat jacket as well. He'll sometimes walk around in boxers and a tank top as well, since that's normally what he sleeps in and occasionally lacks the motivation to put real clothes on. He'll wear pretty much any type of shoe as long as it fits right and won't fall off during a fight, but he prefers boots over anything else.

- Keepsakes -
Kain's katana was once his father's weapon, but the man handed it down to Kain as a gift for graduating from the Japanese Keepers Academy. He wouldn't say so, but the blade is very important to him.

- History -
For years a man traveled with no one by his side but his demon, never staying in a place for any longer than he had to. That is, until on a visit to Japan that was supposed to only last three days, he met a young shrine maiden and fell in love with her. The man stayed in Japan for two years until he married the shrine maiden and they had a single child. Naming their child Alexander, they raised him together for two years until the man had to leave to continue his duties as a Keeper. Sukiri, the shrine maiden, bid her husband farewell with a smile, assuring him that she understood why he couldn't stay. From then she would raise Alexander or, as he eventually preferred to be called, 'Kain'.

Kain grew up in quite the large house with many rooms and hallways. His mother was quite wealthy, her job as head maiden providing her with a comfortable lifestyle. There were people who cooked their food, cleaned their house, maintained the large garden that surrounded the home. All in all, this was a life that many could only wish for. Even so, Kain's mother always made sure that these things wouldn't go to his head. Good manners was one of the most important lessons that Sukiri lectured her son on. She didn't spoil him with lots of toys or allow him to act like he was better than other people. Not once did these lessons ever slip away from him, either. He was a very polite and friendly, happy to help around the house or do favors for his mother.

From a very young age, it was apparent that Kain had inherited the same power that his father had. His mother could not see the things that he could, but she always believed him and enjoyed listening as he described the little dragon that would follow him around. He had the potential to become a Keeper, just like his father. Just because his mother believed in the things he saw, though, doesn't mean that there weren't others who called him silly or laughed at his make believe friend. Elementary school was his least favorite place to be. Almost everyone avoided him, except those who thought it funny to tease and bully him to only learn that Kain had soon enough reached his breaking point as he lost control of his Keeper power for the first time, injuring three other students and sending another to the hospital to receive treatment for frost bite that had covered his arms.

He didn't even finish third grade before his mother decided it would be best to home school him and hired a woman who would teach the young boy how to use his abilities properly. Over the course of three years Kain showed great progress. He learned quickly and moved through his training rather swiftly after the first year. There was no doubt that he was talented, despite still having much to learn. He loved learning about the art of Ice and the history of Keepers, getting in trouble a few times for practicing by himself and accidentally freezing the walls of the house or killing the plants outside with cold. His mother would often tell him how much he reminded her of his father, but that didn't really mean much to Kain. After all, he'd never met the man even once and had only seen pictures of him.

Before long, strange men began to show up at their house. Turned out that the Council themselves had heard of Kain's progress and wanted him to enroll in an academy for Keeper that had recently been built in Japan. His mother always refused, saying that an eleven year old boy was too young to be living by himself. She was also well aware of the hard training that Keeper academies enforced, remembering the stories her husband used to tell her. Then one night, another group of strange men came to the house, only these were not men sent by the council to enlist Kain. His father was quite the infamous man, and as a Keeper made many enemies. Once again, Kain would lose control of his ability as the urge to protect his mother overtook him. It only took a second before the entire house and property, including the staff and the men who broke in, froze and shattered into nothing, only him and his mother remaining. He then made the decision himself that he was going to take the Council up on their offer.

The first years he spent living at the academy are long an uneventful. He was very young, at least two or three years younger than the majority of the other students who lived there. He was still teased and people laughed at his puny demon, who was only the size of a kitten then. Those who looked down on him would soon enough eat their words as Kain exceeded his teachers expectations and he moved up in rank quite quickly. It seemed as if weopon and power training came easy to him, like he'd already been doing it for years, but he had to work just as hard as the others to move up. He trained nonstop for hours, his small body growing stronger and taller each year while he while he was not only being taught how to use his ability bu his teachers, but also his demon. There were people who admired him and people who hated his perfect grades and envied the control he had over himself. He was a genuine prodigy, but this also kept him distant from other students and though he had quite a few fans he never made any real friends.

Kain graduated a year earlier than the rest of his class, quickly taking up a job as a Keeper and traveling the world doing job much like his father. However, some time over the years he spent at the academy, he slowly started to feel a sort of hatred towards the Council. Well, not really a hatred, but his loyalty wasn't nearly as strong as most students. He didn't think of them as his leader, even if they were the ones who controlled the Keeper system from behind. When he finally earned the official title of Keeper, he turned into quite the nuisance and rarely followed any order he was given, no doubt leading the council to become rather cross with him. This didn't keep them from awarding him with higher and higher ranks as he improved, and not long after he turned twenty he was given the title of B Rank Keeper.

Nearly a year later, news came from the Council that they had received a single request from none other than Kain's father. The reason the man had to leave his wife in the first place was because he was given the task of leading a new guild of highly talented, but youthful Keepers. The Council had recently bestowed upon the man the name of Hunter, and he was given the choice to choose who would take his place as new Guild Master of the guild Lone Sin. He had appointed the new role to Kain, who although reluctant at first finally decided to take on the task.

Dominate Emotion || Protectiveness

- Personality -
If Orion were human, he'd probably be the teachers pet in the classroom that always gets straight A's and is picky about the way they dress. Cleanliness is one of his top priorities, as he hates the feeling of having dirt stuck in his fur, and he grooms himself whenever he gets the chance to do so, even if just for a second. He's quite the conceited dragon, holding his head up with pride and showing little to no respect towards other demons.

Orion has a very puny amount of tolerance and can't stand bubbly and explosive personalities. He's ant-social like no other, clinging only to Kain and having no interest in associating with others. As stiff and fancy as he may be, he's acts not so differently from a loving house cat towards Kain. The Keeper is the only one Orion will listen to no matter what the situation and rarely acts on his own accord.

Even with his prissy and arrogant manners, Orion lived on the earth long before Kain was born, and he's actually incredibly wise and intelligent. His loyalty towards his human is unquestionable, but there are times when he will become hostile of Kain if Orion senses that the Keeper's mind may be wavering. Unlike Kain, the dragon has a very strong sense of what is right and what is wrong, and he's not afraid to turn on his human to set him straight if necessary.

- Talents -
Speed - Orion is both agile on the ground and especially in the air. He can run and make his way through obstacles quickly and swiftly, even more capable of doing so when he's flying.
Tracking - With his heightened senses, Orion is incredibly skilled in tracking down anything, be it human, Ruinosus, or even a specific type of plant. His tracking skills are especially better when he's already familiar with whatever he's looking for.
Night Vision - The dark is no match for Orion's ability to see in the darkness even in the blackest of nights. Whether the sun is shining in the sky or the moon has yet to grow full, night and day doesn't make any difference to him at all. If anything his eyesight is even better at night.

- Flaws -
Lazy - Right in there with Kain's lack of motivation, Orion isn't too fond of doing things that don't really need to be done. He'd rather lay around the whole day and just bask in the relaxation.
Prissy - Orion easily becomes frustrated with those with loud mouths and uncontrollable amounts of energy. Sloppiness and lack of manners is absolutely out of the question and even gets onto Kain about dressing better and paying more attention to his appearance, in which Kain usually just ignores him. The dragons straight-laced mannerism often leads to other demons not wanting to be in his company.

- Weaknesses -
Fire - Unlike Kain, Orion is unable to coat his body in frost to protect himself from heat or flames, so being hit by fire directly would be quite painful for the dragon. However with his ability to breath freezing cold air he can still hold off flames for a good few minutes.
Size - Orion can change his size from small to giant, but his body strength also changes with his size so the smaller he is the weaker his body is. Being hit by heavy attacks or to be thrown around roughly when in his small form can cause some serious damage.
Kain - There is no other being that Orion is more protective of than Kain. The dragon would sooner give up it's life than let harm come to his human. He's gotten himself injured many times in the past trying to protect Kain from even the tiniest threats, something that Kain is constantly scolding him for doing.

- Hobbies -
Sleeping - What better way to spend your time than to curl up on something soft and take a good long nap? Whether this could be considered and actual hobby or not doesn't matter to Orion. He's too busy sleeping.
Grooming - If given the opportunity to do so, Orion will spend hours on end grooming himself until his coat is so shiny it could probably be used as a mirror. He's grown so used to always having such a clean coat, he can't fathom how some people and demons can go about the whole day without worrying about all the dust that could be landing on them.

Location ~ Olny, Latvia -
Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Forgiveness
Dialogue ~ #510D5C

The placement of the sun whose light shone warmly across the mountain ranges indicated it to be around four in the afternoon. The shadows of countless trees were beginning to stretch across the ground, enveloping the smaller plants and shrubs that crowded themselves amongst the forest floor. Kain stood high up on a large rock mass covered in moss with light orange flowers growing from the earth around it. From his point of view, he could only see the roof of the old church that had long been abandoned, much the the rest of the town that was located about a mile away. He'd taken a stroll through the old town on his way here, finding the old style of the houses that had plants overtaking the walls and insides to be interesting, but there were also remnants left behind of the battle that had taken place there many years ago that had forced hundreds of people to take what they could and leave their home to escape the monsters that had wiped out half the town.

Kain moved his eyes to the sky, a third time now as he checked the time using the sun and the shadows. He had a cell, but the outdated flip phone's battery had been dead for nearly two days now and Kain had no intention of recharging it any time soon. The thing was a nuisance anyway and it wasn't as if he had any real need for it since the only time he ever received a call was if it was from the Council. The most recent one was three days ago when the Council alerted him of the new mission that he had been personally recommended for from none other than the man whom he'd only ever seen pictures of.

There was a sudden weight on him and he moved his eyes from the sky to the icy blue dragon that had perched himself on Kain's left shoulder. He gave his demon a small smirk before looking back down at the church. "What do you think, Orion? We kept them waiting long enough?"

The dragon said nothing, only stared at the church with eager, but calm eyes. It had been almost a half hour since the last member of the guild known as Lone Sin, the very guild that he would now be the master of, had entered the church. That should be plenty of time for them to relax and probably start questioning why they were there. It was about time Kain explained to them their situation, but first he wanted to get to know them a little. "Alright", he said to his demon, though he kept his eyes on the church. "Just don't kill anybody. That'll look bad on my part."

Orion glanced at his master, narrowing his eyes slightly to show his distaste of Kain's joke, before turning and leaping from Kain's shoulder and taking flight. As it made it's way over the roof o the church, it was no longer the size of a cat, but rather an elephant, his wings casting a long shadow over the church for just a second before he dove and crashed through the stone roof and landing in the middle of the large room. With a roar that could echo on for miles, he spread his wings and stood threateningly, sending a blast of cold air all around him. No doubt this would trigger a reacting from the guild mates who had gathered there. Now that the rood had been torn apart by Orion, Kain had the perfect view to observe the people he would soon be leading.

He watched on for only a few minutes, his eyes moving from one guild mate to the other as they each went about handling the situation in their own way. Orion no longer attacked, as that was not his purpose. He shielded himself carefully from any attacks thrown at him, and continued to growl and whip his tail around in a hostile manner. 'Right, that'll do.'

Jumping down from the rock mass, he made a path of ice for himself and quickly reached the forest floor and made his way to the front entrance of the church, waiting only a second before pushing the right door open. He clapped his hands together once, a cold force shooting out and spreading over the area of the room before it quickly disappeared. "That's enough. Let's not wreck the building anymore than it already is."

As he spoke, Orion shifted back into his small size and flew over to Kain, once again perching on his left shoulder. "You can all call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I'm your new Guild Master. Got any questions?"

Von had been one of the earlier arrivals, meaning he was also one of the people who had waited the longest. He stood as far away from the rest of the people there, not wanting to be any closer than he had to. In the shadow of a dilapidated pillar, Von had been using his Darkness' Cloak ability to conceal his presence as much as he could. He knew that the guild members he would soon be working alongside were high enough ranks that his cloaking would be noticed by at least a few of them, but hopefully they would get the message and leave him alone. He already had one annoying pest to deal with.

Speaking of the devil, Von felt a sudden weight on his shoulders as his demon, Rune, jumped on his back and wrapped her arms around his neck, hanging on like a kindergartner at a fair. "Hey, Von. Why don't you go talk to the others?" She asked, giving him a slightly disappointed tone, "You're being all gloomy in the corner again." With a sigh, Von grabbed both of her hands and removed them from his neck, putting her back on the ground. "That's going to be a solid negative, Rune." He said flatly, flicking her forehead as he did so, "I don't know them well, they don't know me well. Going to them now would just be dangerous." Rune pouted as she rubbed her forehead with her hands.

Before either of them could say something else, there was a loud crash as the roof of the abandoned church came crashing down along with a giant blue dragon. ""Contact! Middle of the church, single enemy!" The moment he saw the blue as it crashed into the building, Von had grabbed Rune by her scarf and combat rolled into the shadow of a pew, using it as a Shadow Doorway to a shadowed corner on the far side. "What is that?!" Rune asked Von, a tone of alarm in her voice. Without an answer, Von drew his gun, took cover behind a pew. and immediately started taking shots at the giant beast. It basically translated into one thing, I don't know what, I don't care what, I'm shooting anyways. Feeling a sweatdrop form, Rune sighed and drew her own blade and lunged at the demon. It looked like he and Rune were quick on the draw here as it seemed that most of the others were either just starting an attack or not doing anything at all.

Before much attacks could have connected, another person walked through the door. He clapped out his hands, sending a wave of cold through the church; Von shivered a little. "That's enough. Let's not wreck the building anymore than it already is." At this time, the blue demon in the middle shrunk down to size and flew over to the new arrival, landing on his shoulder. "You can all call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I'm your new Guild Master. Got any questions?" Von let out a sigh as he ejected the magazine from his gun and inspected it, empty. He sighed as he replaced the empty clip with a full one, as he walked over to the front of the church, away from the new arrival. In the shadow of the wall, he once again used Shadows' Cloak and listened from afar.

Image"Those who become close are the ones you should watch the most."

It was a rather nice day, only a slight breeze coming from the North. Alice sat in the space that used to hold a whole and beautiful stain glass window, no doubt depicting a momentous biblical event. All that was left was shards sticking out of the wood that held what used to be in place.

As per usual, Alice was adorned with what exposed her best. A cropped gray tee, a micro-mini skirt and a snug pair of brown combat boots. She hadn't felt like doing much with her hair so it was down, reaching past her bottom and ending strictly at her knees. She was currently sitting on her hair actually. But since she had full mobility of her head, she didn't care to be honest. All her mind was occupied with was why she was sitting in a church with her guild mates. She wasn't the first to arrive, but she certainly wasn't the last. The only occupant was the other Shadow Keeper, Von. Then the others began to trickle in one by one.

The sun was shining in through the window, warming Alice's back with the breeze right there to cool her. It was almost too nice of a day. "You are looking as wonderful as usual," Gabriel said, materializing next to his Keeper. Gabriel was Alice's demon, a handsome man himself. Well, when he was in his human for anyways. Other than that, Gabriel was a Shadow without any definite shape. Alice was currently watching her guild mates from above, flipping her favorite box cutter in her left hand and propping herself up with her right.

"Oh, I know. I wanted to be prepared in case something happened."

"In case you needed to entice someone with your alluring figure?"

"No, in case I need to move. Less clothing I wear, less restriction."

"So why don't you fight naked?"

Alice gave Gabriel a look. He knew exactly why she couldn't. One, she had asked and the Guild Master had shot her down so quickly it wasn't really fair. Two, Alice believed that with the teasing way she dressed, it would distract more than if she was fully naked. With that, the two fell silent, continuing their perched observation, Alice's eyes dull and dead, Gabriel's a brilliant blue-green that shined with excitement. In the middle of a long yawn, a giant blue dragon covered in fur and feathers broke through the roof. The girl simply covered herself with her Shadow Fire, anything that flew at her would simply pass through and become paralyzed. Besides, there was one monster and six of the Guild members ready to fight.

Something strange happened however. All the creature did was deflect their attacks, not creating any of it's own. That was when Alice allowed her Shadow Fire to disperse, knowing that this was an obvious distraction made by friendly fire. Otherwise the creature would be attacking them. "Tsk," the sound escaped her pursed lips.

A burst of cold air sent a shiver up Alice's spine and the familiar feel of the old door feet below her opening didn't really surprise Alice at all. "That's enough. Let's not wreck the building anymore than it already is." The dragon creature shrunk in size and flew into the doorway where a man awaited. "You can all call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I'm your new Guild Master. Got any questions?" Alice remained quiet.

I don't see why I should care. Doesn't effect me whatsoever. It'll be the same old shit. We all get missions, Ill be the only one to do it efficiently and right.

"Conflict is drama, and how people deal with conflict shows you the kind of people they are.”

“Yeiji…”

“Hmm…”

“Yeiiijiiii…”

“Hmmmm…”

“Yeiijiii!”

“Yes, Tempest?” Yeiji gingerly moved half of his head phone off of his ear so he could listen to his whiney demon more closely.

“This is boring… I don’t feel like waiting anymore…”

Yeiji sighed, turning his head to look at the inside of the church. It was ancient and practically falling apart. He had been one of the early ones to arrive, so he had been stuck here for more than an hour now. At some point, he simply let himself fall back. Yeiji was now laying on his back, hovering two feet off of the ground, his hands behind his head and his feet crossed at his ankles. He figured the ground would be very uncomfortable, so floating seemed like a much better option. Tempest, who was in her bat form and only a few inches in size, had curled up on Yeiji’s belly and was snoozing happily until recently. Now she was awake, grumpy, and most likely hungry.

“He’s an hour late…” Yeiji muttered.

Almost as if on cue, Yeiji’s entire body went rigid. He sensed a massive object moving towards and church. Before he could even prepare himself, a loud crashing sound was heard as a giant blue creature smashed the roof of the church. Yeiji, now no longer focusing on keeping his body in the air, dropped those two feet right onto his back, earning a throaty gasp. He forced the air back into his lungs and scrambled to his feet. Tempest, who was probably the most startled being in the room, immediately grew immensely in size. Yeiji dove out of the way of Tempest’s thick, lashing tail. The female demon let out a screech of disdain, the building shaking. Just when she was about to attack, a man came marching through the front doors.

"That's enough. Let's not wreck the building anymore than it already is."

The dragon who practically caved the roof in shrunk, leaving a very confused Tempest. She changed into her human form, her golden gaze following the small dragon as it landed on the man’s shoulder. Yeiji took a step towards Tempest, not threateningly, but more protectively.

"You can all call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I'm your new Guild Master. Got any questions?"

“First of all, how dare you!” Tempest shouted with outrage, stomping forward towards Kain.

“Tempest, don’t-” Yeiji was cut off as Tempest continued, her hands balled into fists.

“You’re lucky I didn’t blow your eardrums out and blast you into last week!”

“Tempest!” Yeiji’s tone was not angry, it was simply stern. His bright eyes turned cold, hard, and sharper than the cold blast that had spread throughout the room when their new guild master entered.

“No!” The tension in the room increased by tenfold as Tempest’s entire body tensed up, preparing to strike. Yeiji clenched his jaw. He flicked his arm outwards and before Tempest could even move something invisible coiled around her waist. “Wh-wha-” Yeiji yanked his arm back, and with a yelp, his demon was sent flying backwards towards him. She bounced off of his chest, and before she could even stand, Yeiji took a hold of her little bat ear. “Ow…! Yeiji, stop it!”

Tempest swatted at him, but Yeiji only tugged a little harder, silencing her. He returned his now calm, soft gaze towards their new guild master and hoped he wouldn’t notice his embarrassment. “I’m very sorry about that. She can get out of hand sometimes…” He glared at her momentarily and she flinched. Yeiji gingerly released her ear, which she grabbed and massaged between her fingers. “My name is Yeiji Kenmotsu. So much for making a good first impression… Tempest. Say you’re sorry.” He crossed his arms, glancing at her once more.

“I… I’m sorry…”

“Good.” Yeiji praised and reached out with one hand, resting it on top of her head. He rubbed her ear soothingly, as if an apology for tugging on it earlier. Tempest practically purred, a smile widening on her face.

"Nuisance! Demon! Idiot! Stay away from my kids!" His hands balled into fists, blue flames bursting from between his fingers. He wanted the insults to stop, he wanted to be just like everyone else! Things became blurry, he moved faster then humanly possible and when Kyou's vision finally came back into focus, blood covered his hands. Of course this never really happened, it was simply a nightmare, nothing more or less; however the insults were very much authentic. Kyou awoke the way one might fall asleep; lazily, slowly, then all at once when Rem jumped on top of him. His breath left his body and the Keeper sat up, groaning, clutching his stomach and rolling over on the wooden floor. He had been camping out in a monastery right outside of Olny, only a half an hour away from Our Lady of Perpetual Forgiveness. Kyou's methods weren't exactly legal and even though he had enough funds to stay at a real hotel, old habits died hard.

Kyou packed up his blanket, zipped his sweatshirt up, pulled on his gloves, and tied his shoes, Rem curiously glancing over the roof, her kimono sleeves touching the shingled tiles despite the fact that she had rolled them all the way up. It was time to go; Kyou landed in the middle of the garden and made his way out of the fenced area, dropping a dollar into the donation box on his way out. "One more mountain and we're done," He promised his demon who was oddly contemplative on this fine morning. The sky was a thick murky gray, clouds swimming in the ugly broth that covered the air above them. "What if he's like the last one?" The demon finally spoke as their boots crunched across broken glass and rubble. They were close, walking through a strip of abandoned houses whose facades included some of the ugliest architecture that the two had ever laid eyes on. Kyou stopped short and she turned to look at him, their last Guild Master had been a nasty man who lashed out at his pupils when they did something wrong. "Don't worry," He stepped forward and ruffled Rem's purple hair, a smile adorning his lips once more. "We're not part of that group anymore, not for a while now." Rem huffed, it wasn't a real answer, but it was the best one she was going to get.

They stopped right outside. Kyou adjusted the sword bag on his shoulders and pushed the heavy wooden doors open, instantly sensing the presence of a few others. Quietly he entered, Rem staying silent behind him; her ears twitching at every little sound from the breathing of other Shadow Keepers' to the swaying of the building in the wind. Kyou's posture was relaxed, although his expression was guarded, he took a seat in one of the empty rows, the decaying wooden bench creaking under his weight. Since the age of fifteen Kyou had worked under Lone Sin, however this was the first time he would see a new Guild Master. It seems that the boy was right on time because as soon as the doors closed they opened again and a blue demon that took the form of a dragon entered along with his master.

He stood proudly, marching straight to the front of the room and announcing that he was in fact, the new head of the Guild and that if anyone had any questions they should speak now. For once the boy remained quiet, although Rem fidgeted quite a bit; clearly she was curious about the dragon.

Ila kept her hand firmly tangled with the thick fur of her demon's shoulder as she sidestepped around a pile of broken glass on the church's floor. Her feet were calloused and strong, but broken glass was never a good thing to step on with bare feet. 'I'm not sure it's a good sign when the new Guild Master is late to his own meeting,' Mato telepathically told Ila. The Earth Keeper gave a loud guffaw at her demon's humor before remembering how their telepathic conversations looked on the outside, and remembering that she had to hold her laugh inside lest the guild members think she was more strange than they already thought she was. 'Maybe he forgot?' she sent back to the bear demon with as much sarcasm as a thought could possibly hold.

The old church they had gathered in was beautiful in its own strange way with patches of sunlight filtering through where once-gorgeous stained glass windows had been broken. As Ila stepped into one of these patches of sunlight, she glanced around at the other guild members around the room. Some of them she could see clearly, some of them she could not see due to their tendency to blend in with the shadows; however, each one of them had their own unique vibrations and Ila could feel every single one of them through her entire being. That was one of the benefits of working with the same people: it became easy to tell their vibrations apart from one another and apart from everyone else, even in a crowd.

While Ila had thought that she was late for the meet-up, she had been waiting for over a half an hour and she was becoming antsy -what with her complete lack of patience and all. She could not imagine sitting around here for longer than she had already sat around for, and furthermore, she could not believe that this new guild master was late for his own introduction.

Ila was about to inform the others of her irritation when she felt a slight disruption in the church's foundation. Next to her, Mato's body also went rigid just seconds before a loud crash came from directly above her. Immediately, instinct took over and she stopped the large pieces of ceiling that were about to fall on top of her and Mato. She threw them away from herself and was greeted by the tail-end of the icy blue dragon that had crashed into the church. The creature opened its mouth and gave a screech before shooting what appeared to be an ice blast around itself. Without second thought, Ila forced her bo-staff into the ground and immediately a section of the church's foundation came up to create a wall in front of her and Mato. As a wave of icy air rushed over the wall, Ila kicked the concrete wall and sent it slamming into the dragon's body.

The surprise and all of the action set Ila's vibration sensing on high alert and she could feel every single move of every creature in the room; however, what was more of a concern for her was the shaking of the church's foundation around them. Although she would have rather continue fighting alongside her guild mates, Ila knew that if the building collapsed on them, there would be no guild, so she sent a quick mental message to Mato telling him to protect her for the moment. With that, Ila planted her feet and bo-staff firmly on the group and calmed her mind, focusing on the vibrations of the building around her. With her mind focused, Ila sent her own powers out to stop the church from shaking any more and to stabilize the foundation that had begun to wear down after years of no repair or maintenance. Just as she had finished setting the stones that made the foundation of the church, Ila felt a rush of cold air hit her back. It took her a moment to process that someone had opened the door behind her and she belated turned toward the cold wind just as a black-haired man stepped through the door.

"That's enough. Let's not wreck the building anymore than it already is." Ila furrowed her brow at the man with both anger and confusion, not yet fully understanding the purpose of what he had just done. It only took her another moment to come back to herself and realize that he must be their new Guild Master and that this dragon must have been a test of some sort. Not coming to the same conclusion as his master, Mato growled deeply at the man until Ila settled a hand on his shoulder, informing him telepathically that he was not an enemy. The blue dragon that they had "fought" -now shrunken down to the size of a house cat- flew up to perch on the man's shoulder as he spoke again, "You can all call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I'm your new Guild Master. Got any questions?"

Overcome with a feeling of anger at this guy's stupid test, Ila furrowed her brow and took a step toward the new Guild Master. Although nearly a foot shorter than him, Ila stood as tall as she could in front of him, letting him know that she was serious. "Yeah, just one actually. What the hell was that? This whole building was about to collapse. Ya know that? Could've killed us all." Beside her, Mato nudged Ila, silently informing her that her anger was getting a bit out of hand. However, she was not the only one who was clearly angered by these events. Yeiji's demon clearly shared Ila's sentiment and she voiced it much more adamantly. As Yeiji scolded his demon and forced her to apologize to the Guild Master, Ila crossed her arms defensively over her chest. Of course, this sort of testing was not too unusual and she shouldn't have been surprised; however, she would not apologize. Had she waited only a few seconds longer, there was a possibility that the church could have caved in on the entire guild.

Still feeling angry and knowing that she needed to cool down before she spoke to anyone, Ila took a deep breath and stepped down from her angry stance in front of the new Guild Master. 'Well, this oughta be fun,' she thought sarcastically to herself as she resolved to kept herself uncharacteristically quiet lest she make a fool of herself in front of a man that would be the master of their guild until further notice.

“Ame! Hey, Ame!”Amaterasu leant back against one of the walls in the church, giving a small sigh as she replied “What is it this time, Setsuna?”, asking the question smoothly without once looking up from the book as held in her hands, flipping the pages quickly as she scanned the information in it. It was yet another scientific book about wind and its uses, and currently she was learning how to use her powers better. She could control the weather and make tempests or hurricanes anytime she wishes to by simply controlling the direction of the wind, but that wasn’t quite enough. The things she could do with this power… “Ame! Pay attention!” Raising her eyes momentarily, she glanced up slightly to see her demon, her hands on her hips while she towered over her. “Fine. What is it?” She asked, giving in as she snapped the book shut. “I drew one of the murals, isn’t the design nice~” Setsuna asked, happily showing her a piece of paper on which she had drawn the whole design of the painting with a pencil. It was a simple sketch, but impossibly detailed, at least, to the human eye. “If only you could use the energy you have in making those into fighting, that would be useful.” Amaterasu said, her gaze once again on the open book, as Setsuna slid into a sitting position next to her.

Their supposed guild master was supposed to arrive about exactly an hour and forty five minutes ago, and Amaterasu had been getting exceedingly annoyed over the time being. Her annoyance and impatience has seemingly been rubbing off on Setsuna, or so she had observed, as the hyperactive demon was avidly scribbling down the murals and drawings in the church. The other guild members all seemed to prefer to keep to themselves, not that she minded the slightest. In fact, the peace and quiet was what she had been looking forward to for quite a long time, without any distractions of monsters suddenly barging in or one of her teammates speaking. There was only one looming cloud over this, and that was the punctuality of their guild master. If he thought that it was going to help them bond or talk with each other, well, he was wrong. The shadow keepers, as secretive as they always were, either hiding with their cloak, or in Alice’s case, sitting at the hole where the window used to be. The church had not seemed very appealing, but at least, there were things to keep Setsuna interested.

“Contact! Middle of church, single enemy!” Von’s voice shouted as a blue and white dragon came crashing from the roof as it roared and used its ice powers. Obviously not a very smart dragon, to attract attention to itself in that way. What was more, it was dodging and not attacking, only making itself seem dangerous. Although Amaterasu had her wind swirling around her, and Setsuna had gotten up, ready for battle, she was still reluctant to make a move. The beast might not have any intention of hurting them from its actions so far, and since it was no doubt a pretty big threat if it really attacked, she preferred not to provoke it even more. No need for more trouble than its worth. There was another loud screech causing her to wince slightly, as Yeiji’s demon let out a huge screech of possible disdain. “Tone it down.” She muttered to herself, a single phrase as a man strode in before the guild’s attacks could connect with the dragon, giving off an icy blast like the dragon had. “Thats enough. Lets not wreck the building anymore than it already is.””You can call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I’m your new Guild Master. Got any questions?” The dragon had by now reverted into a smaller shape of a house cat, flying up to the man’s shoulder and making its perch there.

So thats their new guild master… Well, his sense of responsibility does seem promising. Their future under him would probably filled with joy and rainbows huh. Setsuna frowned slightly, showing the amount of exasperation her master was feeling, but the glow in her eyes showed all of her curiosity and the will to find out more about the person and the demon. “Setsuna.” She said, keeping her demon back, but another has already approached the guild master. Tempest. She shouted the the man, seemingly angry at what he did. Well who won’t be? She was about to say something, to stop her. After all, the man was their guild master, and attacking him might not be their best decision, but Yeiji beat her to it, pulling his demon back and punishing it, forcing it to apologise.

However, Tempest wasn’t the only one mad at the man. Ila, the most expressive of the female members in the guild, was mad at him too, confronting him directly and saying that he could have murdered them. Thankfully, she drew back unlike Tempest, staying unusually quiet for her nature. It would seem like everyone has held a certain amount of respect for the guild master. “Calm down, everyone. It would seem like nobody is severely injured over that over-dramatised show our guild master had put up for us, and though we faced risks, well, nothing came out too serious. Though I’d have to say that it was highly unnecessary, and a primitive way to test our reactions.” Amaterasu spoke, with her calm and reasonable voice like always, in hopes of calming down the others before they too, starting confronting or threatening the guild master. There was a few in their guild with fiery tempers, and she did not like to imagine the circumstances that were possible to occur. Although she didn’t express her opinions too explicitly, she made it clear that she was not impressed with his actions, topping off her little speech by shooting an icy glare at him with her bright yellow eyes, devoid of emotions as usual.

Smoking arose from around Mikhail as he began burning parts of the hollowed out tree he was sitting against. The small orange ember danced from his hand to the tree itself. Burning parts of the old thing before being extinguished He searched the old church watching each of his guildmates wait for their new guildmaster. Mikhail, unlike the rest of the guild, wasn't really looking forward to meeting the new guildmaster. It meant that he would accept the fact that the old man had left Lone Sin. The spot he was sitting had a pretty good vantage point, giving access to the whole area below him but just enough space for him to rush in and help if trouble was to happen. While most of the guild had just begun arriving to the church, Mikhail had gotten there way earlier than any of them. He had taken the liberty of securing the area and making sure there were no dangers around.

Crash! He looked down as a large blue dragon seemed to have landed at the church. "So..... I did miss something." "HEY FUCKER!!! LET ME MAKE A SHISH KEBAB OUT OF YOU!!" Mikhail roared as he ran from his spot, his hads burned with the same old orange flame that came on them each time he'd fight. With all the waiting that he'd done it was a big relief to have something to fight. He could hear the joint reactions of each member of his guild but tuned them out, he wasn't in the mood to do some coopertative attack.

As he got close to the beast he noticed a few things about it. One the monster wasn't actually attacking but defending. Two all the attacks it reflected weren't leathal at all. And third of all it wasn't releasing any killing intent. Something was going on, he had enough combat experience to know that. "He's not dangerous Mikhail," said a voice behind him. Turning around Mikhail saw his demon, in her fox form, standing behind him. "Dae, still stay behind me incase something does happens." Still something was off and he knew that if he got to the beast it just might tell him. He turned back to the dragon and sprinted off but as soon as he came within striking distance the thing grew smaller and flew off to someone Mikhail had never seen before.

"You can all call me Kain and the dragon here is my demon, Orion. I'm your new Guild Master. Got any questions?"

"See, I told you," his demon said in a condescending manor, "Now put out those flames before you hurt someone."[/color] A mad smile lite his face as he watched the guildmaster “Calm down, everyone. It would seem like nobody is severely injured over that over-dramatised show our guild master had put up for us, and though we faced risks, well, nothing came out too serious. Though I’d have to say that it was highly unnecessary, and a primitive way to test our reactions.” He looked over to Amaterasu as she said that. It was true nobody got hurt but still he was going to give the man a piece of his mind. Mikhail stomped over to Kain, Ignoring Ila completely, and got up right into the guys face. "HEY!!! I GET THAT YOU WANTED SOME FANCY CINDERELLA SHIT BUT FUCKEN THAT WAS STUPID. YOUR LUCKY THAT NO ONE ACTUALLY REGARDED YOUR DEMON AS AN ACTUALL THREAT. THE HELL WOULD YOU DO IF THAT FURBALL GOT HURT?HUH!? Behind him Mikhail heard a whine from Dae before she said,"sorry."

"First of all, how dare you!"

"Here we go..", Kain said quietly to himself, letting out a sigh as one of the demons began to approach him looking quite upset. This was the demon that belonged to Yeijiro Kenmotsu, from what he recalled from the documents the Council had given him when they first offered him the position. She was a bat, but could also take on the form of a human like many demons could. She continued to walk towards him, but he stood relaxed with a rather bored expression on his face. He didn't really see her as a threat and Orion had already leaped from his shoulder and landed on the ground in front of him, taking on a defensive pose with his fur bristling and teeth ready.

"Calm down." Kain nudged his demons hind leg with his boot as the little bat was pulled back. Orion raised his head slightly, keeping his place in front of Kain but now showing a somewhat calmer demeanor.

"I’m very sorry about that. She can get out of hand sometimes… My name is Yeiji Kenmotsu. So much for making a good first impression… Tempest. Say you’re sorry."

"I already know who everyone is, so introductions aren't necessary." He only glanced at the bat for a second as she apologized, barely giving her any acknowledgment. No that he had time to since someone else had decided to express their annoyance. This time is was the earth user Ila Avani, who hurried towards him and placed herself in front of him despite the now growling Orion who remained at his feet.

"What the hell was that? This whole building was about to collapse. Ya know that? Could've killed us all."

Kain stared down at her blankly and somewhat annoyed, but said nothing. Either she would continue with her ranting or she would back down and as he suspected, after standing there angrily for a few moments, she stepped away. He once again nudged Orion with his boot, only this time with a little more force, and the dragon silenced his growling. The demon really was too protective of him.

"Calm down, everyone. It would seem like nobody is severely injured over that over-dramatised show our guild master had put up for us, and though we faced risks, well, nothing came out too serious. Though I’d have to say that it was highly unnecessary, and a primitive way to test our reactions."

His eyes moved to Amaterasu Himura, the female wind user of Lone Sin, the first one who didn't sound like they wanted to chew his head off aside from Yeiji. Or at least she didn't express it in her voice, but her words clearly showed her distaste.

Before he could respond, Mikhail stormed up to him barely a split second after Ila had moved aside. Kain could feel the heat coming off of the younger male just from him being angry. Although younger, he was a little taller than him, which admittedly was a bit annoying since Kain now had to move his head back just slightly to meet eyes with him. He'd noticed that all of the men here were at least an inch taller than him, save for the gunman, Von Myrkur, who'd retreated to the shadows a soon as Kain had introduced himself.

"HEY!!! I GET THAT YOU WANTED SOME FANCY CINDERELLA SHIT BUT FUCKEN THAT WAS STUPID. YOUR LUCKY THAT NO ONE ACTUALLY REGARDED YOUR DEMON AS AN ACTUALL THREAT. THE HELL WOULD YOU DO IF THAT FURBALL GOT HURT?HUH!?"

He narrowed his eyes at the fire user as Orion leaped up onto Kain's shoulder, clearly displeased with Mikhail's raised voice, but he was also unhappy that he was just called a 'furball', not that anyone but Kain would notice that, though.

"Quite your damn shouting." This time Kain let the annoyance in his voice slip out. "Think I'd just throw him in here without being prepared to intervene? Idiot."

If there were anymore shouting from the strawberry blond, Kain paid no attention to it. He took a step to the side and walked around the angry Mikhail, making his way to the center of the room before letting out another sigh and patting his demon on the head to calm him down. The negative emotions that the others were feeling were making the dragon uneasy, but with Kain's touch he let his fur finally lay flat. "Are you all done complaining? Geeze, you sound like a bunch of children, and to think I'm only a year or two older than some of you.." He mumbled the last part as he turned around to face his new guild, ready to give his reply to everyone's actions.

"Since Yeiji's the only one who hasn't annoyed me, excluding the anti-social members in the building who have yet to open their mouths, I'll start with Ila." His voice was suddenly stern as his icy blue eyes rested on the earth user. "Your main concern was the building collapsing, so you used your power to keep it as steady as you could. That was good support that you gave, but don't be so full of yourself. It would be pretty embarrassing for a guild as famous as Lone Sin to lose their lives because a building collapsed on them. Just because you're the only earth user in here, don't think that you're the only one who could protect everyone from some falling rubble."

With that he moved his gaze to the little wind user, not interested in anything Iva might have to say about his comment. "As for you, Beansprout, My test wasn't just to see how you'd react when sudden threat appears, but how you'd react to learning that it was nothing more than a silly test. If having to deal with a simple little test irks you so much then you might as well give up being a Keeper. Moving on."

It was Mikhail's turn, the one who seemed most upset about Orion's 'attack'. Or maybe it was the fact that he didn't actually have the chance to fight that pissed him off the most. "Your demon's got a hell of a lot more self-control than you, and not to mention sense. I did see that you took the time to scout the surrounding area around the church since you arrived early, so I give you props for that, but I'd recommend keeping your mouthing off to yourself from now on. Whether you like it or not, I'm now the Master of this guild and underestimating me wouldn't end well for you. Actually, that goes for all of you." Breaking eye contact with Mikhail and turning to once again face the whole guild, he continued. "The previous Master of this guild has been given an A rank and is now a Hunter for the Council, just to inform you all since I imagine those of you who actually care were probably curious as to why he's no longer here."

Another sigh escaped him and he took in a deep breath. Now that all that was out of the way he could at last get to the point. "There's been reports of Ruinosus terrorizing the forest eight miles from Olny. A hunting cabin has been attacked, the whereabouts of the couple who live there is unknown, and a train that runs through the area hasn't returned to the station for four days. Finding out what happened to the missing train and couple, as well as exterminating the Ruinosus threat from the area, is our mission. We're leaving as soon as the sun sets. I'll be outside until then. Oh, and we'll be walking the eight miles."

Orion lifted off from Kain's shoulder and hovered a foot above him as he made his way from the middle of the room to the front entrance. He found himself a place in the grass along the front all and sat down. Orion rested beside him, hastily working the dust and dirt from his wing feathers. It would only be an hour now before the sun would disappear behind the mountains and he would lead his first mission. Though he preferred doing things on his own, he had worked in teams before. Hopefully the members of this group wouldn't meet their ends so quickly.

Image"Your greatest weakness can become your greatest strength."

Alice laughed as each of the guild members, all but her and Von, confronted the so-called Guild Master. Amaterasu didn't say anything to bad, just that it was a test. One thing that made Alice twitch was Ila's complaint that the whole building could have caved in and killed them all. While Alice was busy twitching while Kain addressed every guild member that had crossed him.

Alice hadn't even processed what all he had said before breaking into a fit of mad laughter. "You're all so weak," Alice cackled, standing and pointing at them all. "If you honestly believe a falling building would kill us you don't deserve to be a part of this guild! We've defeated countless monsters over the years, but you were always the weakest! Why don't you all leave while you can so better Keepers can replace you hopeless causes!" Alice turned to face the outdoors, preparing to take off. "I'll take this on myself and show you all! Dark Wing!" The shadows around the room began to shake, making their way to their Master. Within seconds, large black wings, at least thirteen foot across, formed on her back. "See you never." Her manic laughter continued as she shot out the window. Gabriel himself winked as a good-bye, disappearing along with his Keeper.

"You sure are in a good mood," Gabriel laughed, buzzing along next to Alice in his shadow form. Her laughter continued on, seemingly endless.

"Those idiots stand no chance! I feel bad for the self-centered idiot for taking on our guild! Thinking he can give me orders when I've known him barely a moment. Pathetic!"

"You know he's a B rank, right? I don't think disobeying a direct order will color his fancy."

"If he doesn't like my style he can rid the guild of me! I don't need them and any guild would be more than happy to have me!"

Alice stopped in mid air as her wings disappeared. Anyone on looking might have assumed it was her spell timing out, but she had truly snapped out of her fit. She skillfully landed on her toes and stood quickly.

"I knew you'd snap out of it." Gabriel morphed to his beloved human form, landing next to Alice. She had remembered that around a year ago, she had promised the man that had taken her in that no matter what, she would obey all orders given. "A promise is a promise, aye?"

"I suppose ..." Alice balled up her fists and grunted. "Why did the old fart have to stop! Why would he give up us for being a Hunter? Dammit!" The Keeper punched a near by tree out of anger. Having the problem she did, the old Guild Master had become somewhat of a replacement of her father, and now he was gone too. "This ... this right here is why I don't bother with people. They all leave you in the end no matter what and leave you with a giant pile of rubble."

"I'll never leave you Master. I'll stay by your side no matter what," Gabriel cheered enthusiastically, leaping on Alice in a hug. Alice couldn't help but smile at her demon, laughing normally now. He was her best friend and she knew she could trust him. The Keeper hugged Gabriel tightly, her inner child shining. At that point, Alice decided to wait in the tree she had earlier hit. Once she saw her comrades, she would join in the journey to their next mission.

“I guess we’ve got some time to kill.”

Yeiji watched with amusement as Kain reprimanded the others for their angry or sarcastic outcries. He was glad the guildmaster was, or seemed to be, taking a bit of a liking to him. He was, however, still a bit embarrassed by Tempest’s tiny temper tantrum. At least it was small in comparison to Mikhail’s.

Once Kain had dismissed them, Yeiji looked up at the sky and noticed the setting sun. Perfect.

The first thing he did was turn and walk over to Ila. “Is everything ok? You didn’t get hurt or anything, right?” Yeiji asked, trying to hide the slight worry in his tone. He resisted the urge to put a hand on her shoulder. “That dramatic entrance was a bit unnecessary, but I’m sure there was some sort of method to his madness.”

Yeiji did his best to ignore Alice’s crazy, angry shenanigans going on the background. She honestly thinks that she’s so much better than Mikhail.

“We’ve got an hour or so until sundown. Want to help me with something?” Yeiji flashed his prize winning smile.

Tempest suddenly slammed into him from behind, and if not for his fast reflexes, he would has fallen on top of Ila. He pushed himself back with a puff of air, though he did momentarily tower over her. “Yeiji! You’re supposed to practice with me!” Her voice was loud and whine-y as she leaned against his back.

“Perhaps if you hadn’t been so disruptive and childish earlier, I would consider training with you. But you’re being rather immature today. I think you need a break.”

Tempest pouted, her eyes wide and begging for forgiveness. “Its not going to work this time.” He sighed, reaching out and stroking her previously abused ear. “I’m not angry. I just think you need to cool down for a bit. Good eat something and take a nap, alright?” His tone was soft and extremely soothing. Reluctantly, Tempest nodded, turning and trudging off.

Yeiji turned back towards Ila. “Ever wanted to know what its like to fly?” His grin was more playful this time.

"Von? Hey, Von!

The voice calling to him had registered, but he was too busy watching the others to formulate a response. That is, until the source of the voice begun to shake him.

"Hey! I know you're listening!"

"What is it, Rune?" He replied flatly, turning his focus over to his demon.

"So, are we gonna just ditch now as well or are we gonna wait with everyone else?" She replied, putting her hands on her hip in an obviously exasperated expression.

He once again turned his gaze towards the rest of the group, well, what remained of it at least. The Guild Master, Kain, had exited the building and was doing something just outside the church and Alice had flown off with her wings. From the people that still remained in the building, it appeared as though most were either conversing amongst themselves or just milling about. Basically his choices were to either head out now just as Alice had or wait alongside the rest of the guild members. Both choices seemed distasteful to him.

"What do you want to do, Rune? Would you rather stay here or move out now?" Von asked, throwing the decision onto her.

"Hmm... Well, I kinda wanna do both. Well, let's ask Kain for the location of the Ruinosus and if he tells us then we'll head out. If he doesn't then we stay."

With a small nod, Von made his way from one end of the church to the other, being sure to avoid others as best he could. With Rune in tail, he peeked out through a crack in the door and saw the Guild Master sitting down in the grass. Well, he still had his doubts about whether or not this person was a reliable leader. Now would be the perfect time to test it. He looked over at Rune and gave her a quick series of hand signals. Although she was surprised at the sudden turn of events, she did as told and blended into the shadows.

"Hope's Demise." Von whispered, channeling explosive shadow energy into one of his bullets. This would be his test to the leader. This world is a world where the strong kill the weak, that's what Von believed. If you die, it means you simply weren't strong enough. As such, if this plan got Kain killed then he was just weak. Despite that, Von limited the amount of energy he put into his bullet. He nodded in the general direction of where Rune should have positioned herself and took aim from the small opening in the doorway.

Rune had stayed silent up until now and remained silent even as she attacked. The cloaked Rune shadow traveled onto a branch of a tree nearby and from there commenced her part of the attack. Swiftly leaping off the branch, Rune unsheathed her blade and slashed at the other demon, Orion. Simultaneously, Von fired his bullet aiming for Kain.

Ila made sure to keep her cool and unusual silence as Amaterasu spoke followed shortly by the hotheaded, ever-annoying Mikhail. She blocked it out for a moment and took in a breath, focusing solely on the steady breathing of Mato at her side. As usual, Mato felt her pull and he slowed his breathing even more so that she could follow. Finally sure that she would not snap at anyone, Ila let herself come back to reality just as the new Guild Master graced her with his ever-so-kind words.

"...I'll start with Ila," she heard and snapped her head to attention.

Ila's breath began to quicken once more. Who did this guy think he was? Of course she knew they could take care of themselves. She wasn't an idiot. However, she also knew that it was not impossible for even a guild member as strong as those in Lone Sin to be hurt or worse if an entire building collapsed on them. Especially if they had other threats like dragons. Even as an Earth keeper, Ila knew that she could have been injured. 'Falling rubble' was not the same as 'an entire building that was already coming apart at the seams'.

"Well, it's good to know that our new Guild Master is great at making quick assumptions about people that are not necessarily true," Ila mumbled under her breath, and then added a bit louder so that he could hear, "And by the way, I might not love everyone in this guild, but I have never once implied that any of us were unable to protect ourselves."

With that, Ila focused once more on the breathing of the bear demon at her side in order to calm her own breath. As the new Guild Master explained their mission, Ila thought about the guild that she was part of. They were a strong guild, but there was some times that their differences got in the way of what they had to accomplish. Overall, they always finished their mission, but as she thought on the matter, Ila realized that maybe they did need to grow up. Of course, pride would not allow her to say this at the time, but Ila had never been unable to recognize her faults, and one of those faults was that she sometimes let emotion get in the way of her judgement which was, in theory, childish.

Ila was snapped out of her musing on the subject as Yeji appeared in front of her, “Is everything ok? You didn’t get hurt or anything, right? That dramatic entrance was a bit unnecessary, but I’m sure there was some sort of method to his madness.” Ila only had time to nod back in agreement as she was forced to focus on Alice's crazed shouts. Unable to stop herself, Ila shouted back as the Shadow Keeper took off, "If you're so great on your own, then leave. By all means, make things easier on us all." Mato gave a low growl beside her and Ila was not surprised to turn and find that he was growling at her. 'Why do you even bother anymore?' He asked her telepathically with enough anger to make Ila feel inferior. The Earth Keeper gave a silent sigh, knowing that he was right. Alice was not her problem unless she became her problem. 'Yeah, yeah, I know,' Ila shot back at her demon with defeat in her voice. This whole ordeal had put her on edge.

Just as Ila was about to send another telepathic message to Mato, Yeji began to speak again with a grin on his face. “We’ve got an hour or so until sundown. Want to help me with something?” Ila nodded at him with a smile as she gave another silent sigh, but this one was out of relief rather than exasperation. Yeji's cool and calm vibrations were a welcome relief from the high-strung vibrations of some of the other guild members that she had been focusing on moments ago. He was almost like Mato with his calming energy and Ila couldn't help but want to spend some time with that calming nature before they left on what would probably be a very tense trip.

The following interaction between Yeji and his demon made Ila cringe, but she knew that they had their own way of dealing with these things in the way that she and Mato did. As Yeji's demon sulked off in the other direction, Yeji turned his attention to her once more and asked, in a playful tone, “Ever wanted to know what its like to fly?”

Ila furrowed her brow and smiled, giving him a 'what-is-that-supposed-to-mean' look. "I mean I've never had my feet not be on something that was connected to Earth for more than ten seconds," she replied, letting a hint of nervousness into her voice, but not much. She thought for only a moment before adding, "But that doesn't mean that I don't wonder... I mean when you guys are flying around..." Ila let her voice trail off, hoping that he understood. It wasn't the height that Ila was afraid of. She loved climbing mountains and perching atop the tallest trees; however, in those cases she was always somehow connected to the Earth. What she disliked about the idea of flying was that she would be disconnected from the ground for a prolonged period of time, and not in all of her twenty years had that ever happened.

“It’ll be fun, I promise.”

"I mean I've never had my feet not be on something that was connected to Earth for more than ten seconds."

“That’s understandable.” Yeiji was slightly surprised by Ila’s answer. He expected her to say something about not wanting to be disconnected from her element, but he was shocked that she didn’t outright deny his question. Though he did now just realize that way he asked it did sound a little odd…

"But that doesn't mean that I don't wonder... I mean when you guys are flying around..."

Yeiji could practically sense the nervousness coming off of her in waves. It was indeed an understandable reason. “Well, I guess I have to explain some things, first…” Yeiji cleared his throat and slipped his backpack off of his shoulders. He opened it up and looked around inside of it as he continued to speak. “As you may know, I can fly, but its not something… hrm, physical, I should say. Its all the wind. The wind simply supports my weight, therefore if I want to carry someone along with me, I need to be physically strong enough to hold onto them, but I do not need to be physically strong enough to actually carry them. Do you follow?” He spoke gently, making sure that he was explaining himself well. He pulled out a pair of flying goggles.

“If you do agree to help me, you should use these. It’ll keep that pretty long hair of yours out of your eyes.” That comment would’ve sounded very sleazy coming anyone else. But Yeiji kept a warm-hearted smile on his face, showing that his words were genuine. “Its all in concentration, really. I’ve been practicing flying with Tempest, y’know, in my arms and stuff. But I’ve also practiced simply having her “fly” with me. As in, she remains in her human form, and I levitate her either underneath me or next to me as I am flying as well.”

Yeiji crossed his arms, tilted his head to the side and tried to figure how to say the next part. “The thing about Tempest is that she can change forms within a second, so she has a sort of parachute if you will. Every flight we’ve had has been successful, but they’re all too… leisurely. There’s no tension or point to them if Tempest can fly for herself. I want to learn how to fly with other people because flying is so much more convenient than walking.” He let out a sigh, hoping that he wasn’t sounding like a complete idiot.

“Here’s my proposition. We fly around for a little bit, let you get used to it and stuff… And if you don’t mind it, then you let me fly with you to the mission site. At least part of the way, if that would be alright with you.”

Yeiji let out a quiet chuckle. “I hope this isn’t sounding too crazy.” He shook his head, still letting out quiet laughter. “It is a lot of fun though. I guess its just something you’re going to have to experience for yourself and tell me what you think.” He beamed down at her, his smile displaying nothing but happiness. “So, what do you say?”
