"I have played the role of the Princess too well... now I must be an Empress."
Tamara is gentle and kind, but she is also strong willed and intelligent. Before her father, courtiers and the many suitors she is forced to endure, she wears her persona of the innocent Princess and acts gentle and delicate. It is only with Masema that she acts like her true self, showing her igenuity and determination. She also has a deep insecurity about her succession, feeling that unless she does something she would not be able to care for her people when she takes the throne.
Tamara has always been happy in her role as a gentle Princess, but overhearing her father talking about the civil war made her realise how fragile her succession was. She decided at that point to change her ways and become a stronger leader. She went to her friend Masema, the only one she really trusted despite her father's displeasure at their friendship, and with his help began to learn all that a Prince would. History, languages, politics and battle strategy... enough to make her strong. But she still keeps on the mask of a Princess for her father’s sake, not wanting to disappoint him but also wanting to be strong for her people.
