Introduction
In 1870 in Boston, an Irish immigrant by the name of Peter Cleary joined a group westward bound in search of better work and a new start. A dockworker in poverty, Cleary left his family behind in hopes of giving them a better life. The group started their journey across America, their destination California. The state where, because of the Gold Rush years ago, many believed they would find their fortune. The trip was an unlucky one, however, as the first man died just a few weeks into the adventure. The numbers only diminished as time went by, until only Cleary remained. For months no one heard a word from him, and he was presumed dead. That is, until he showed up in Carson City with a wagon full of silver. He told an amazing story of being lost alone in the desert in the Nevada Territory on the verge of death, when he came across a river full of fish, and a silver mine nearby.
He sold his wagon of silver and was able to finance an expedition back to the mine. This trip was more successful, and Cleary immediately put up a settlement for his new mining company. The settlement, known as Paraíso, which is Spanish for paradise, grew to include his miners' families, then businessmen hoping to set up shop, and soon Paraíso became a thriving town unto itself. Cleary became a rich man and was able to send money to his family, who were able to move out of poverty and live comfortable, almost privileged, lives. Many doubt his miraculous story, and believe there is a more sinister side to the story, but no one's ever bothered to find out.
Its been five years since the town was established, and its become a busy little community. Shops and houses are everywhere, a saloon, a whorehouse, a schoolhouse, there's even a Catholic Church on its way to being built. Despite its happy facade, however, there has been some trouble. Indians have attacked a few times and there's a gang of outlaws who like to prey on the town's remote location. And since tempers are usually just as hot as the climate, there are many a brawl on the streets that sometimes in flying bullets. Being a lawman is practically a twenty-four hour job. Not to mention the inevitable diseases that often plagued people in such living conditions, such as Cholera.
But they are a generally happy people despite all the hardships. They are especially excited for the upcoming Centennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. There will be games, music, dancing, free drinks and food, and fireworks. The whole community is coming together to plan and celebrate, and hope that nothing happens to derail the festivities.

Also, I couldn't find a way to slip this in the intro, but the river near the town is called Cleary River.
