The Circle

In the town of Haven, six teenagers begin to experience oddities. Little things at first, hair growth, moving leaves, unscathed skin after falling to the ground… But the oddities turn into abilities. Teleportation, levitation, telepathy…

Meanwhile, the town’s children keep reporting to their parents cases of bad dreams, paralyzing nightmares. A bogeyman. A creature with teeth. A tall, dark man with claws for hands. But the collected adults pass it off as simple nightmares of kids, tricks of the mind.

All except Tristana.

Tristana, along with her niece Hallie, realize the threat on the town and also find the teenagers showing the potential.
The potential for the Circle to reunite.

Your characters will be the potentials for the Circle, all experiencing strange abilities in the week leading up to your meeting with Tristana and Hallie.

Perhaps your character’s hair grows three inches in a night.

Or your character’s kid brother, so annoying, has suddenly lost his ability to speak.

Or, during a pop quiz, you pluck the right answer from the teacher’s mind himself.

Your characters are all in their Junior Year of high school. And their worries about college, adult life, the future are soon to be long forgotten.


You will join the Circle. You will face the darkness.



(The extent of the magical abilities is similar to a witch/wizard magic system. More in the OOC as questions arise)

Magic System Overview:

It’s based around connection. The circle must be fully functional for anyone to have powers. When tensions are tight, they’re powers are lessened, though may be able to draw strength from smaller circles among themselves. It’s all about connection. Two or more people must be present to perform the spells.

The Circle is normally formed once a day to keep energies vibrant and functional as well as rejuvenate any feuds throughout the day. It relaxes participants a lot and bonds them to all in the Circle strongly with each circle formed. The Circle is formed by standing in a circle, holding hands, and chanting the decided mantra for the group (it changes with each circle/generation) the same number of times as the number of those present. What matters is the energy brought forth and received during The Circle.

If performed alone, a telepathic bond can be made, but this is very advanced and will not be able to occur early in the story.

Abilities include: levitation, transfiguration, summoning elements (very advanced), telepathy among circle, apparition, potion making, invisibility (advanced), location spells, rituals, etc (we can compile a full list on the ooc after more discussion)


Your characters:

You've all grown up here for at least a few years, some most of your life, if not all. You've grown up together and know each other in passing at the very least. Some of you may be close or even know each other intimately already. (If so, just indicate on your character sheets or decide in the OOC so we all know.)

There's no strict character sheet, but your character's past and their current personality would be a good thing to know, as well as any oddities your character has experienced in the past week leading up to your meeting with Tristana. Appearance, age, clothes, sexual orientation....that all comes out in the story so its not a huge deal if you include it or not.

Also know that since your character shows the potential, your parent(s)/guardian(s) characters may know what's going on or may have been potentials themselves. The evil that is presenting itself in the present day is an enemy the town has faced before, but a century ago. If your family knows anything about this, they might be lying about their age or may know someone who was involved in the original fight. If your parent(s)/guardian(s) get involved greatly in the story, you will be welcome to create a whole character sheet for them later on.

With that said, I'm currently taking six slots. I'd like to keep genders equal, but sexual orientation doesn't matter.

And finally, if I deem your character won't fit in with this story, I have the right to reject them. These kids are normal high schoolers before this all happens and have no idea about any of this. Please keep that in mind.

Let's be mature ;) Civility and all that.

As far as content, swearing is allowed. As is kissing/making out scenes. If that bothers you then don't join. But anything beyond over the clothes situations, please take it out of the story. Continue elsewhere if need be ;)
