Every night when you sleep, two forces emerge from their parallel world to join in battle over your very soul. They do so by manipulating your subconscious. The Storytellers try to help you with peaceful sleep infused with good dreams of happiness, confidence and strength. Tilting the scale on the other side are the sinister Incubus who use nightmares of death, fear and humiliation.

Storytellers: Storytellers are good, they look like normal humans. Mortals can not see them, [unless they want you to see them]
The bring good dreams and protect those under their care while they sleep. When a soul is stolen to be used as a sacrifice to the Incubus they are paired with a pathfinder to help find and protect that soul until another human soul inters the dreamscape to retrieve the poor lost soul.
Incubus: These creatures seem to be half human half machine. They have screens where their faces used to be and projected onto those screens are the faces that the evil Incubi overlord has deemed fit for his monitor.
They feed off of the fear, despair and anger that humans feel when they have a nightmare. When a human soul is given to them by a drifter they turn it into an Incubus and the human dies.
Pathfinders: These funny little things where once humans. But they are no longer living most died helping others. A pathfinder is usually handicapped in some way and to show this handicap they commonly have tape over their eyes, ears, mouth, or any other place that is useless.
Drifters: A drifter is what happens when someone can not become a Pathfinder, a Storyteller, or an Incubus. They are troll like monstrosities that float from one side to another. In most cases this person lived a life full of fear and anger and died a horrible death. To become an Incubus the drifter must bring the soul of a human to please the overlord.

When a human inters the strange world from which these creatures come it is only possible to wake them when another human who has lost his/her way in life, finds their soul and opens the portal bringing back the lost souls of the two and restoring them to their comatose bodies.
