When we are dreaming alone it is only a dream. When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality.

Never take candy from strangers. But jewellery is fine, right? If a slightly deranged looking young woman forces a stunning necklace in to your hands and insists that you keep it, who are you to refuse? You’d never be able to afford it anyway. And so what if you started having weird dreams the very night you got it? You don’t want to give it back. You’re not going to give it back! And even if you wanted to, you have no idea where that psycho went anyway.....

There are two dimensions – reality and Xanthia, the World of Dreams. They are normally kept separate by very ancient magics, however certain artefacts exist that can create a bridge to the dream world. They are normally kept secure by those few who know how to use them, but one item - a necklace - has found its way out in to the general population and all hell is about to break loose. The necklace allows the wearer to control exactly what happens in their dreams, down to the last detail. On its own it’s harmless enough, but when united with the other artefacts a doorway opens, letting everything from the dream world in to reality. Needless to say, it’s not all puppy dogs and candy in there.

The exact number of artefacts is unknown. It was decided long ago that those who have been entrusted to guard them shall only know where their own artefact is, and what it is. That was the safest way. And so reality was safe for hundreds of years; only when people were asleep could they access the dream world. But something has gone terribly wrong. It seems that someone has found out about the artefacts and is hunting them down. Their motives are not known – the only thing that is clear is that they will do anything to procure the artefacts. Nothing will stand in their way.


The idea for this roleplay is that the necklace finds its way to a young woman whose life is, for all intents and purposes, crap. She begins living more in her dreams than in real life, especially when she figures out how to use the necklace. Strange things start happening around her, though. People begin to disappear and very odd figures start hanging about. She soon realises that they are after the necklace – some of them want to protect it and her, but others would just as soon see her dead to get what they want.

To begin with I’m only going to open up a few characters to see how things go. Please keep in mind that your character will need to have a ‘reality’ self and a ‘dream’ self (the dream self being their perfect self). Only when a character possesses a Dream Artefact can the reality self control the dream self. For now only the necklace will be in play but other artefacts will crop up. You will only need to register the one character, but please include details of both the reality self and the dream self.
