Re: The Great War: 1914 - XXXX
As for Americans, The US is not involved in the war. It this alternate timeline, Woodrow Wilson does not become pres, and some other does. This man, who will not be given a name, passed laws that promoted Isolationism, Including sealing Mexican border and restricting entry into the States to foreigners. In short, they stay out of the war and keep afloat by trading with Canada and S. American countries. However, you can play as an American,or any ethnicity for that matter, with the condition being that you left the county to join the French Foreign Legion or the British Auxiliary Forces.
idk, that was just in a PM. Just wanted to post it, it might help.
The USA is staying out of the war in this time line
That raises so many questions! How hasn't west Europe caved? How does that explain continued trench warfare? If it's 1954, is the United States still in depression? Did FDR lose reelection? Where have all the scientists, inventors, and other great men fleeing east Europe go? Will the Germans develop the first nuclear weapons? How has the USSR not caved yet? Who controls Africa? Italy? Poland? Did Japan not bomb Pearl Harbor? What about Mexico? Has Germany paid them to invade? Is Australia and Canada involved? If Japan hasn't attacked the USA, what the hell is it doing? Wasting its time in China and Korean, but for some reason not invading the Philippines? Or does the USA have a weak president that sold them to Japan?
You can't casually say the USA isn't involved in a near-history world-war RP, and you certainly should have included that even in the rough draft of your RP. It's, like, a hugely important detail.
Re: The Great War: 1914 - XXXX
Anyway:
In response to your first statement, I'm letting people create characters and give suggestions, but this RP is not ready for posting yet. It has a huge amount of fleshing out to get done and at least 2 essays worth of info the technology used. However, while not a specific date, there is a starting year. 1954
For your second, I already stated that it might not be the answer you were looking for. People would be posting in the third person and focusing on their characters. Having men under their command
is just a mean for players to add length to their posts and some lore to their characters.
Third, that's good to know your concerned. If there is any advice you could give or anything like that, please tell me in a pm.
Re: The Great War: 1914 - XXXX
Anyway:
So... what exactly are you trying to do, here? First, you haven't given us a starting date, and the tone of the war is significantly different before and after the first Christmas. Flamethrowers, tanks, distribution of machines guns, improving marksmanship... the feeling of soldiers and civilians at the outset and end of WW1 see drastic and bitter changes, and it would help a lot to know what period of the war is being portrayed in someone's first post.
Second... So, you want people to write at the macro and micro warfare scales? I don't think that's a good idea. Someone interested in their character/squad gets to understand how little he contributes when the next post hands victory to one country or another, and someone writing at the battalion level gets to be frustrated waiting for minor skirmishes to resolve before progressing the war.
Third, and while I cannot speak for everyone here, I'm not as interested in this as I am concerned. Your introduction is very brief, as you can see from the flood of questions, and it isn't conducive to garnering interest when you make everyone wait for you to write out what the RP is.

Roku Mushabuki wrote:Do you mean no discrimination in character or in ooc? After all this is a war in the fifties.
Both. However, Some characters will be picked on by some NPCs. Example: British soldier insult an American Auxiliary by calling him names. This dose not mean your character can't dislike a particular race or ethnicity.
Does that answer your question, good sir? I do hope it does. It brings a smile on my face to see people are actually interested in this.

MayContainPlagiarism wrote:What country are the characters from? What branch of the military? What type of unit? Division? Are we in Africa, west, or east Europe? What do you want the story to focus on? Is it going to be written at the squad level? Platoon? Company? United offensive? Is this going to be like Baker's Dozen, where soldiers are blown wildly off course and overcome insurmountable odds? Or are we a bunch of mooks that get lucky by happenstance?
I still have a lot of work to do on military branches and such, but these are the basics.
[*] Your character may be any race, nationality, gender, or ethnicity. However, if your character is, for example, an american fighting for the French, the MUST be a member of the French Foreign Legion, or Auxiliary Forces for the English.
[*] It is set in France, Germany, and "No-Man's Land", which is basically every country in between France and Germany, burnt and flattened by artillery fire.
[*] Story Focus? Haven't had time to think on that. At least for now, It is, within reason, do whatever you want. By within reason, I mean, no "Killing 100,000 men", or " Being invincible". You can post passive threads for the allies in France, mainly Paris, and "Combat" threads in No-Man's Land. This is text based, and right now, I have no combat system. This will change as soon as I set up the rest of the faction details and locations.
[*] There are two factions, Allied nations and German Empire. Chose your character's allegiance wisely, as both factions have pros and cons.
[*]You may choose form these Branches: Army and Air Force. Navy may be added later if it requested by enough people.
[*] Allied nations...... yeah, united offensive.
[*] The USA is staying out of the war in this time line. Sorry 'Murica fans. You can still play an American though.
[*] Type of unit? I'll give you an answer, but inform me if it's not the one your looking for. Depending upon your rank, 1st Lt being the max starting rank for any character, You will write based on the type of unit said rank commands. Example: 1st Lt commands a platoon.
[*] The stories will be written by member with other members, RPing as their own characters.
I hope this helped answer a few of your questions. Watch for new updates and I'll stay in touch. Cheerio!

Yes, we're aware what year it is and what war is taking place. That is not a lot of information.
ohohoh sorry I'm silly. I thought you were trying to answer for the GM and your question is completely unrelated to my (and Candle's) problems. Sorry.
