Raekin

The creature in the lake...

0 · 364 views · located in The Ruins

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Arluar

Description

Image

Raekin is a creature of the sea. Her body is covered in fins that while on land act as her clothing, and while underwater, are useful for propulsion. From the top of her head, she has two fan like fins known as her crown fins. Her forehead is bare with two strong brows visible. Her skin tone, made of varying shades of green, is flecked with spots of dark sea green and dark teal. Her entire body is hairless, but the four tentacles straight off an octopus are aesthetically the same thing as if she had hair growing out of her scalp.

Her largest fins are by far the two wing like structures on her back that are collapsible like all of her fins. Over her chest are two large fins that sprout from under her arms. When detracted, these fins hold flat against her arms. Her elbows are tipped with wings that come in handy when steering underwater. Hands and feet are also used in that task, looking much like frog's feet with the webbing between long thin fingers and toes. The last set of fins sprouts off opposite sides of her legs, aiding in moving water when she kicks.

History

The brief amount of time her pregnant mother took in laying her eggs was the complete breadth of her parenting. Their people have many names: Gillyweeds, Fin People, Sea Monkies - but Raekin always referred to herself as an Aquain, the name her kind had when they swam the waters around Italy. Childhood was always quick, after all, if you stayed small, you were dinner. Kin stopped growing when she reached a standing height of 5 foot, 11 inches. She had been alone for the vast majority of her life and as might be expected of a human-like being, she grew lonely.

Near the ports she often heard of Wing City and the tales of the creatures there inspired her to leave the greater waters and instead find a nice body of water close to Wing City. This water spot turned out to be the lake. She was happy to have a home of such size especially in this land. For the first few months, she stayed in its waters and just chatted with those that came to the shores, but lately she has been curious about what lies deeper in the city. Perhaps it was time for an adventure...

So begins...

Raekin eyed the man a moment longer before just casting her back towards him and smiling at Katie. "It's nice to meet you, too...I don't mind so much that they think harsh things about me, I'm rather used to not caring about what others -think-. It's their -actions- that disturb me...The staring, the screaming, the running away...It all gets so tiresome."

She gave a brief frown before propping her head in her hand and gazing over at Katie. "I suppose eventually we'll get used to one another. I just wonder which will happen first. Either I'll learn to not be hurt by their actions, or they'll...accept me." Inwardly, she laughed at herself, knowing that the probability of the later was not so great.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I tend to ramble on...Can I get you a glass of water or anything to eat?"

Raekin was actually rather friendly for a creature that most people feared. The truth was, she didn't really pose a threat to anyone. The most dangerous part about her were her teeth that might do some damage to flesh, but even they were so specialized for eating seafood that she wouldn't dream of using them as weapons.

"Water, coming right up!" she said her perky soprano. Hopping up out of her seat, she instinctively opens her wing-fins behind her and takes her new empty glass with her up to the bar. With the bartender's aid, she refilled her glass and got a fresh one with just a little bit of ice in it. With webbed fingers wrapped about the drinks, she carefully strode her way back to the fireplace. Her walk wasn't very graceful and it was more like a human walking around with flippers on than anything, but she had adjusted to land rather nicely. After all, her body came ready to breathe oxygen from the air, she didn't need to learn that.

Raekin blinked a bit as she came back up and Emura was speaking with her new friend. The mer-woman flashed a bright smile while setting both glasses beside Katie. Then, a thought struck her. "Oh, by the stars! I was on my way to the library to return these books before noon!" Then, reaching underneath her skirt-fins, she produces two rather large encyclopedias. How had she been hiding those? Perhaps one wouldn't want to know.

"I'm so sorry, Katie. It was really nice to talk with you and not have either of us scream, but I've got to go return these...Hopefully, I can come back by later today. Thanks again!" And with that, the mer-woman fin-flopped her way out of the bar and to the library.

Raekin was deep in the water a few hundred feet off the coast. She was having fun watching for waves over head and jumping out of their crests. In the clear blue of the untouched water, Kin could see the stirring of a monstrous wave. With the sweeping arm of the wave already touching the shore on the other side of rocky crags from Indigo. The man with the hat would find no reason to be alarmed as he wouldn't even be able to see the wave coming. Using all her fins, Raekin rushed the wave, shooting from the floor up to where the wave was starting to roll. It picked up speed and hurled her body towards those rocks, an action that would mean the end for most surfers. But Kin was far too experienced for that, and just as the wave broke over the stone in a beautiful fountain, she was there at the top, proudly fanning out all her fins.

Raekin had closed her eyes to take in a deep breath of the salty air before looking down at the beach and spotting a friend. "Mr. Toyota!" she called out, waving before pulling herself up on the rock. Careful footing was found to descend and then hop onto the white sands of the beach. Her feet made unique impressions as she flopped her way over to him. Flashing that bright fangy smile. "Do you remember me from the bar? I'm Raekin...You kept a neko from eating me."

Raekin smiled, or more so grinned with her lips stretching over her teeth, folding her hands behind her back. "I am well...I am glad you came here. I wasn't so sure that I would be seeing you again, now that I've decided to not return to the city." Her smile was gone now, completely replaced by a frown as she dropped down to sit on her rear, knees bent so her chest hung near her thighs. "I appreciate the help you offered me there, but I just feel that I am not welcome among the inhabitants of Wing City..."

Raekin closed the distance between them to rest her sopping wet head on his shoulder. As she did this one of her tentacles crossed his back to rest on the opposite shoulder. "It was not just one thing...but lots of little things. The adverse reactions, the cold shoulders, the rudeness...It hardly seemed worth the effort."

Raekin sighed on his shoulder. "If only there were more like you." she thought silently, nuzzling against the man. Her yellow, green-rimmed eyes tested their range as she looked up at him. Their eyes met and she smiled, crown fins lowering shyly. She was overcome by an urge to do something stupid - and she couldn't stop herself. Turning her head up towards him, she presses her sea green lips to his, tentacles coming around his face to hold him close...

Raekin let out a strange aquatic mammal sound as the kiss continued. Yes, she was wet all over, but there was a nice saltiness to her lips that worked over his tirelessly. Her hand went to his side and slid around to his waist and back as her wing-fins folded down flat against the small of her back. She folded against him, bravely testing her tongue into the kiss.

Raekin broke away from him as she slid down against his arm and laid in the sand. Her tentacles popped at his cheeks as suction cups released one by one. She could have been human the way she laid there and looked up at him with bright round yellow irises. She seemed so innocent, and indeed she was. That had been her first kiss - not just to a human, but to anyone.

Raekin sighed and sat on the beach where the water would come wash up over her lower half. Webbed feet cut the oncoming water, making little fountains over her toes. She giggled a bit, feeling the foam rush her and flow under her skirt-fins. The water, had it kept its crystal blue hue, would perfectly compliment her skin tones of green and blue (and every color in between). She didn't really notice if anyone else was on the beach, just leaning back on her arms. Wing-fins fanned out and moved the air behind her, sand still all over her back from where she was laying down before.

Raekin sighed as her finned feet flip-flopped their way down the path. She was headed back home to the lake again as the sun was just starting to set. Her hair-tentacles hung off her back and swayed easily from side to side as she walked. Her movements were not all too graceful, especially compared to the same movements underwater, but still she trucked along, carrying with her a bag with some sushi in it. Her tealish blue skin was beaded up with moisture, water that her body was trying and failing to retain. Still, she was far from dehydrated and as the lake came in view down the hill, she smiled and paused there a moment to take in the view. A sigh escaped the flat nostrils on her face.

Raekin stood there, staring blankly. Strangely enough, she hadn't gone to run and hide or anything. Instead, she just stood above Hector and the cyclops on the path and watched. When the machine was finally downed, Raekin let a small, fanged smile spread over her features. With a small chuckle, she gave her head a shake, two tentacles on the left side of her head coming to hang over her fin-covered chest. "Have I just been saved from a monster?" she asked loud enough to be heard. She was almost as much of a spectacle as the robotic beast Hector had just destroyed.

Raekin started to slowly walk towards him, looking over his dark hair before noticing his injury. "Did you pull it?" she asks while crossing her arms over her chest. Her brow, though void of hair, still moved expressively, quirking upwards. "I can fix it, if you request..." The bag she was carrying hit against her side as she stopped a few feet away from Hector.

Raekin began to get the sense that she was being seen as a monster again. She was used to getting that feeling, especially around humanoids. Shrugging a bit, she turns on her toes and starts back down the path again. "Well if you're alright, I'll just be on my way. I need to get home for supper." She did look a bit sad, if Hector could read her expressions at all.

Raekin was bopping up and down with the waves, keeping close to the surface while her head stayed under. It didn't take her long to pick up on the presence of another, though, and she broke the surface just enough to look towards the beach. There was a man standing there, but couldn't quite make out what he was doing. When he picked up a rock, he wound up skipping it directly at her. Skip-ip-ip-BAM!

"Ow!" she exclaimed as she gripped her forehead where the stone hit her. Kicking her feet, she rose up so that her torso broke through the surface of the water, swimming towards the shore while still rubbing at her sore head.

"The heck was that for?!"

Raekin put her feet on the ground when she got close enough to the shore and began wrapping up in her side/chest fins and skirt fin, covering up her otherwise nude form. "It's bad enough you people treat me horribly when I come in the city, but now you've come to attack me in my home? What did I ever do to you?! NOTHING."

Maybe it would be a good idea to clear out with an angry mer-person charging at him. She stopped a good 10 feet away. "All I want is to fit in but people like you just come and persecute me! I don't wanna be alone, but I don't want to be abused, either." Crossing her arms over her chest fins, she folds her crown fins down as she was upset.

/me' 's eyes got watery, though it was hard to tell since they were mostly white with small yellow pupils that occasionally grew larger. Like a child throwing a pout fit, she plopped herself down on the wet sand, a rush of water just barely hitting her in the butt.

"Don't apologize...you didn't do anything wrong. I'm just oversensitive s'all." She held her hands out in her lap and looked at the webbing between her fingers. "I'm just tired of being an outcast, y'know?" At that, she looked up into Cooper's eyes before just sighing and dropping her head again. "You don't have to stay and talk to me if you don't want to. I'm sure you have better things to do...It's a shame you didn't throw the rock on purpose, you have pretty good aim." she added with a smirk, letting out a little chuckle.
