In this world, there are places to be, people to see...jobs to do. For teenagers reaching the age of thirteen, they must choose then which path they wish to follow. There are guilds dedicated to each job, where every job is available. But the decision is sometimes out of their hands. Sometimes, they are forced onto the path that their family has dedicated their lives to. Each job has its ups and downs, advantages and disadvantages, but each job is what makes the world go around.
Each job bleeds into the next, directly connected to the world around them. Scientists coincide with magicians, warriors with the common shopkeeper. And yet...within each job, the competition for a place in the esteemed top guild is very, very intense.
The Thieves Guild is perhaps the most difficult to get into. A series of grueling tests, given from each of the lower guilds, before one is allowed to reach the top, to grant themselves the opportunity to get rich, to steal from the top one percent of the world.
Located in the capital of Zhiton, the Thieves Guild has a strict member number of three hundred. Depending on how many perished in the past year, the Guild opens up that many spots for the next class. Sometimes, there are only two spots. Sometimes, there are over twenty. However, the test is grueling. It involves many days of training, studying, and, of course, a test of each thieves' skills.
There are three branches of thieves.
Mental - in which thieves steal emotions and thoughts from their victims using a very delicate art of hypnosis. Each one of these thieves carries around an item to aid them, something that swings from side to side, or moves in a predictable pattern to distract and charm their victims.
Physical - in which thieves steal the belongings of their victim, using their incredible dexterity and charisma. Each thief usually carries something with them that helps them steal, usually gloves or a set of lock picks. Some even go as far to wear masks to hide their identities.
Skill - in which thieves steal, well, the special skills that a person possesses, often leaving the victim skillless. These thieves are perhaps the stealthiest, often watching from the shadows. But they are also often the weakest, both in mind and in body.
None of the branches can affect one another, but the rest of the world is fair game.
It is drilled into the heads of all young apprentices: Never focus on just one victim. Anybody who wishes to have something stolen will no doubt have something of theirs that is just begging to be stolen.
Oh, and during the days leading up to the admissions exam? The restrictions from the three classes are lifted, and any and every thief wanting to get into the Guild is fair game.
P L O T
From all around, the apprentices have gathered. The hopefuls, whether or not this be their first year or their fiftieth, all vying for those esteemed spots as part of the Thieves Guild. This year, well, this year, only six spots have opened up. But each of the six spots are said to be cursed, because each person who died to open up the spot vanished under mysterious circumstances, all crucified with their hearts torn open.
But this is a secret kept well under wraps by the Masters of the Thieves Guild.
A secret...that is to be discovered by each and every one of the apprentices, sooner or later.
Our story will focus on twelve apprentices who wish to join the Thieves Guild. Whether or not they already know each other, well, that is completely up to you....

R U L E S
Please be aware that you will be held accountable for abiding by these rules and regulations:
[uno] No one liners. The least I will take for any post is five well-written sentences (are you sensing a pattern?) And...no. "Blah. Blah. Blah." Said John. counts as one sentence. Not four. I understand writer's block, we all get it once in a while, but let's not make it a habit.
[due] You have 48 hours to get reserved characters in. As well, a reservation does not necessarily mean an acceptance, so please make your character sheet look good!
[tre] Grammar and spelling are expected to be nearly spotless. I understand typos and the such, but again, let's keep them on the down low. If you're not sure your paragraph is good, then put it into Word and see if the red/green squiggly lines come up.
[quattro] akai-pyon's word is law. However, I do accept plot twist ideas.
[cinque] Respect is absolutely necessary. Fighting with another role player will take place over PM. Not in this world.
[sei] Try to post daily. However, keep the posting limit to five an hour (I'm sensing a pattern of fives....). I know it might not seem like a lot, but five an hour is actually quite rapid posting. So keep an eye out and control the urge to post if you are nearing the mark.
[sette] Keep it PG-16. Romance is fine. Violence is fine. Just....not too much.
[otto] Make sure you read all the posts before posting. This way, you won't have to go back and change anything.
[nove] PM akai-pyon with any questions!
[dieci] Follow Gateway's rules!
[undici] This one should go without saying - HAVE FUN~!!

Click on the link he provides for the Hex codes, you should see a box in the center entitled "The Hex Hub." Click on one of the hues, and it will take you to a bunch of different shades corresponding to that particular hue. Pick an individual color you like, and to its immediate left should be a '#' symbol followed by a 6 character sequence of numbers and/or letters. Copy/paste that, and PM it to the GM.

It'll make more sense once I get my characters in.
And all are reserved~
Make sure you get your characters in within 48 hours~~
EDIT: The time period....er....well, I was thinking more along the lines of a fantasy-esque world, so that there wouldn't be guns, but more like bows and arrows and magic and the sort. >_<

Re: [OOC] The Thieves Guild
What's the general timeframe of the story? I'm thinking about what weapons to give my characters, but I can't be sure based on the description whether guns or any sort of machine would be appropriate.
I assumed that the mention of scientists hinted at a more modern to post-modern setting, but I figured that it would be better to ask now than to assume and regret it!
Thanks! :)
