The Wallmaker's Funeral

The Wallmaker's Funeral

0 INK

After the Nine Shiners are done, and the Wallmaker has passed on, a strange and dangerous future seems all too possible.

513 readers have visited The Wallmaker's Funeral since jajganker created it.

Introduction

I'll sing you a song of long ago-
Seven shine the shiners, oh!
What did the Seven do way back when?
Why, the wove the Charter then!
Five for the warp, from beginning to end.
Two for the woof, to make and mend.
That's the Seven, but what of the Nine-
What of the two who chose not to shine?
The Eighth did hide, hide all away,
But the Seven caught him and made him pay.
The Ninth was strong and fought with might,
But lone Orannis was put out of light,
Broken in two and buried under hill,
Forever to lie there, wishing us ill.

Five Great Charters knit the land
together linked, hand in hand.
One in the people who wear the crown.
Two in the folk who keep the dead down.
Three and Five became stone and mortar.
Four sees all in frozen water.

All is new. The Charter in the Old Kingdom, the wall between that country and Ancelstierre, and the bloodlines of the Clayr, Abhorsen, and Royal family.

However, even now free magic still lives, and necromancers are at their height for the Abhorsen has only now gained his power. Many are banding together.

Many Charter Stones have been made, but that doesn't make it alright. With the stones have come Charter Mages, and it has been discovered by necromancers that, not only does spilling the blood of a mage make the stone ineffective, but it also makes it easier to walk into Death.

Not wanting to be sent back into Death, the Dead are banding together with necromancers who want to stay in practice to kill the new Mages and open the gates to Death. Also, a dangerous idea has come to them. If Charter Mages destroy the Charter Stones, does that mean that Clayr, Abhorsen, or Royal blood can destroy the Greater Charters? Unfortunately, this idea is correct. Thus, they are locked in a dangerous dance. They have to overtake the Dead and necromancers, but they can't get caught and brought to the stones.

~Info~
1) Charter is magic. It's done through symbols made with hands, and you have to be baptized to use it.
2) Everything takes place in the Old Kingdom. The wall is NEVER crossed.
3) Powers of the Clayr: They can see into the future. It's usually in snippets, but when they focus, they can see entire scenes.
4) Powers of the Abhorsen: They use Chartered bells to go into Death or send the Dead into Death. They are good necromancers so to speak.
5) The Bells of Necromancy(in order of size from largest to smallest): a) Ranna, the Sleep Bringer takes those who hear it into slumber. b) Mosrael, the Waker will throw the ringer further into Death while it brings the listener closer to Life. c) Kibeth, the Walker gives free movement to the Dead or forces them to walk at the ringer's will. d) Dyrim, the Speaker can give speech to the Dead, give forgotten words their meaning, or still a tongue that moves too freely. e) Belgaer, the Thinker can restore independent thought, memory, and all patterns of what once was in life or erase them. f) Saraneth, the Binder shackles the Dead to the wielder's will. g) Astarael, the Sorrowful will cast all who hear it into Death, including the ringer.
6) More About the Bells: a) All wish to sound of their own accord, and thus must be handled carefully. b) One should not use them unless they have the proper training and are sure nothing will go awry. c) They work on the Living as well as they do on the Dead.
7) There are beings of Free Magic, they are called Free Magic Constructs and are dangerous.
8) The Dead and Free Magic beings cannot cross running water.
9) The Dead cannot walk in sunlight.
10) The eyes of the Dead and Free Magic Constructs are literally flames.
11) The Abhorsen's "crest" is a silver key.
12) The Clayr's "crest" is a golden star.
13) *Guess from context.* The Royal family's "crest" is the Wallmaker's trowel in silver.
