Introduction
Unfamiliar with the as-of-yet undeveloped technique of the neural dive, she drove her friend insane.
The scandal which followed shook the Earth Alliance. They took Henriette captive, for examination. They poked and prodded her, performed tests which shattered her health. Tried to figure out what made her tick.
And the hidden community of the psychics looked on in horror, unable to believe what they were seeing.
In a mass movement, the psychics came out of hiding, rising up against the government. We attacked as one front, destroying the facility where Henriette was kept captive. We attacked. And then we attacked again. And again. For four days we fought off everything the military sent in, many of them at the cost of their own lives.
We won.
Henriette was set free into the arms of the psychic community, though with her shattered health, no one has seen her in twenty years. The psychics were accepted legally into the human community. A school was built; the Henriette University; where young psychics could be sent to study and develop their powers, and learn to contain them.
But just because we were accepted legally does not mean that we were accepted by the people. “Henriettes” we are called. The whole lot of us; all psychics, labeled under the name “Henriettes”. Hated, pushed away, mistrusted.
And now, with an alien threat on the rise, these people who shunned us have the nerve to call on us for help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Psychic Powers
Telepaths – Able to dive into the mind of another human, their abilities have no physical manifestation. They can not move things, like telekinetics, nor influence thoughts or feelings, like empaths. They are the only Psychics capable of performing a neural dive. They can go into someone’s mind and watch their memories through their eyes. The stronger they are, the deeper they can go. However, without training, a neural dive will drive the victim insane. Telepaths can also fool a person’s brain into thinking their nerves are firing; they can cause any degree of pain, anywhere on the body, simply by thinking that they want it to happen. A telepath without a cap on is constantly aware of the surface thoughts of those around them; like the buzzing of bees.
Telekinetics – Able to manipulate the physical mind with their thoughts, most can not affect people except perhaps to bash them in the head with something. However, there are some particularly strong telekinetics who are capable of entering the human body with their mind and manipulating things within them; forcing hearts to beat, or sometimes to stop. These powerful telekinetics are dangerous, because they are able to make the human body move without permission from the human itself. However, most telekinetics are only able to move the objects around them, open doors from far away, that sort of thing. The larger the things you can move, the stronger you are.
Empathics – Able to sense and influence the emotions of the people around them, these are arguably the most dangerous of the there categories of psychics. Anything they desire, at any time, they are capable of getting, if they use their powers right. They can manipulate the emotions of the people around them; forcing calm, or forcing panic, or anything in between. They also share an ability with the telepaths; they can plant thoughts or ideas in the mind of their victims. Though they can not create entire sequences of memories, as telepaths can, they can make someone think of doing something, which can often end up in them doing that thing.
Caps – These small metal devices are attached to the temples of a psychic, one on each temple. They send out a wave which disrupts the abilities of the psychic, preventing them from using their powers while the cap is on. All students at the University must wear the cap, except while in class. This is to protect both the thoughts of the public, and the thoughts of the teachers and other students at the University. Many psychics in the outside world will wear caps, in order to give the public a false sense of security. However, all psychics know the truth; by the time they reach adulthood, most psychics have grown strong enough and trained hard enough that they can easily overcome the waves of the cap.
Common Misconceptions – There are many rumors that the public created to make themselves feel safer in the presence of “Henriettes”, weaknesses and ways to avoid neural dives or empathic manipulation. All of these rumors are, of course, entirely ridiculous.
1. Neural dives and empathic manipulation are ineffective without eye-contact.
2. Caps can not be overcome.
3. Henriettes can be identified by their white eyes. (This is only true for some psychics, usually the most powerful.)
4. Carrying a psychic-wave-dispenser will disrupt neural dives and empathic manipulation. (These devices are a scam created to make money.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Earth Alliance
Space Stations – There are space stations scattered across the galaxy; bases for the four races involved in the Earth Alliance. These great, spinning metal structures can hold up to four million people at any given time, not counting the three or four thousand people that it takes to staff the station. Inter-racial meetings, trade agreements, and even war-planning sessions have taken place on the decks of these stations. They are the main source of employment for young psychics just leaving the University. The government, despite their outward dislike for the psychics, is always eager to have more of the super-human beings out there helping them spy on their enemies.
Space Vessels – There are several classes of space vessels under the command of the Earth Alliance. Explorer class ships are the most common, and responsible for journeying past the boundaries of what has already been explored. Cargo and luxury travel vessels are also common, bringing people and supplies between the various planets and stations. Perhaps the rarest vessels out there are the warships. These are two times as large as the explorer-class vessel, four times as large as the cargo and luxury vessels, and every inch of them is armed and armored. After a few years serving at a station, some psychics will graduate to staff a ship in one of these four classes.
Alien Allies – Aside from the humans who founded the Earth Alliance, there are three races involved in the system.
1. The Eziim – a race of reptilian beings, their appearance is least civilized thing about them. Though they look rather frightening, and they do make fine and very dangerous warriors, they exist in a culture based entirely on honor and manners. They are always extremely polite, and do not take offense at silly things done by the other races. Their society is led by the eldest of their kind; the Council of Nezaram. As a whole, though training in fighting is central to all of their young, they are a very peaceful culture and prefer to create beautiful artworks, rather than destroy lives. They speak Eziiman, but in recent years the learning of English; the most common language in the Earth Alliance; has become a basic study for young Eziim. They live on the planet Nagath II. The females of the species lack the legs of the males; their bodies are, instead, those of a snake, and better suited for laying the eggs which are their only form of reproduction.
2. The Harsha – the most mysterious and least understood of all the Earth Alliance races. Little to nothing is understood of them. It is very difficult to pursue them or force them to talk. Beings made of glowing matter; perhaps even dark-matter; they can not be touched by any weapons a human might bring to bear against them. They never seem to get sick or die. It has not been determined what the eat, what they breath, how their government works, or how many of them there actually are. All that is known is that the Harsha seem to have no gender, and all Harsha seem to know every other Harsha that they come across by name, and all of them seem to embrace all the others as though they are brothers. They never ask for anything from the other races; all that they do is give, trading their products and phenomenal technologies for nothing except the right to remain part of the Alliance. There is speculation that they have ulterior motives; Harsha are not often trusted by anyone else in the Alliance, though they are generally respected. Harsha have proven to be very powerful beings, capable of ending a life or destroying a warship with a single thought, though not all Harsha have shown abilities such as this. Because of these abilities, there has been speculation that the Harsha are responsible for the manifestation of psychic abilities in humans. They did, after all, first appear around fifty years ago, and they were the inventors of the cap. This speculation is unfounded in science, but it may have grounds in the truth. Certainly, Harsha only seem to trust psychics. While they treat almost anyone else with a great deal of disdain, psychics have somehow gained their respect.
3. The T’Karmat – the most human of the three non-human races of the Alliance, they were also the first aliens ever to make contact with humans. The average height for these aliens is about ten feet, with their neck stretching nearly a foot and a half in length. They are all very thin and flexible, without any hair on their body. Their feet and hands have sticky pads on them, allowing these long and bendable creatures to climb on walls and ceilings in the manner of lizards. Shock-white, their eyes vary across the entire of the rainbow. These huge eyes give them uncanny sight even at the darkest of times. It is impossible to distinguish male T’Karmat from female T’Karmat, though unlike the Harsha they do have distinguished genders. They are all heart-breakingly graceful, and even most humans agree that they are beautiful creatures. Their personalities and ideals vary widely, just as those of humans do. Their government is similar to that of the humans, with a single leader advised by a group meant to represent the greater population, and governed by the word of a solid Constitution.

Henriette University
The Uniform - The uniform is a simple one, consisting for both genders of a long-sleeved, high-collared jacket, long pants, and the spiral-galaxy badge that is the symbol of the Earth Alliance. The only thing which varies in the uniform is the power-identifier; a single strip of color across the chest of the jacket, running from the right shoulder to the left hip. If the wearer is a telepath, the stripe is black. If the wearer is telekinetic, it is a darker gray than the uniform. If the wearer is empathic, then the stripe is white.
The Upper Sphere – For the first two and a half years of their live at Henriette University, young psychics study in the Upper Sphere. This is a spherical station orbiting the Earth. It contains the school buildings for the students, as well as a small town with shops, restaurants, movie theaters, dance halls, and anything else that a teenager should be able to use for recreation. Half way through their third year, students will have their control tested, and if they pass; which they usually do; they will be sent to live out their final years of school on the surface.
The Lower Sphere – For the final year and a half of the young psychic’s education, they return to the planet’s surface, to the great half-dome of the Lower Sphere. This is meant to be a test of strength to the young psychic; surrounded by so many people who aren’t psychic and so can not block them, they can only graduate if they can learn to stop themselves from using their powers on the Normals around them. If they graduate from the Lower Sphere, they earn the full rights of a citizen; they are no longer required to wear a cap, and they can apply for jobs in the Earth Alliance. A powerful psychic with good training can be better off, in the area of money and occupation, than most Normals.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 3 authors
Setting

Not that she would ever have admitted that she was nervous. Her face was perfectly composed.
It wasn't difficult to compose a face when one of her eyes showed no emotion at all. She just had to focus on that eye, focus on making it the same as the other, and she was done. No more feelings. And that was what she had done. She looked perfectly calm, prepared for anything. She looked like a real, powerful telepath, dressed in the gray jacket with the black stripe and the long gray pants. Even the boots were gray. She had pulled back her flowing wealth of near-black hair, binding it up in a high ponytail so it would not get in her face. She wore gloves, mostly to hide the unfortunate mechanics of her left hand. She looked uniform, military even.
But on the inside, she was still trembling. Even she could not deny that.
(You are all on the docking bay, preparing to board the vessel and ascend for your first year at the Academy.)
Setting
0.00 INK
He looked around the docking area for any interesting people to talk to, anyone would do as long as he didn't think about his past. A quick flashback appeared in his head and a small tear ran down his cheek.
He quickly wiped it away and looked around a second time.
One individual stood out amongst the others. She stood focused and looked distanced. In her stance it looked like a soldier standing attention. Feeling bored and not wanting to think back he stood up and walked over to the woman and said, "Hello. My names is Nogond. What is your name?" He said with the respirator creating a synthetic voice that sounded very robotic.
Setting
0.00 INK
Angel very clearly looked unhappy at being forced to come here, but then he saw all the others in the uniform like him, and his scowl disappeared from his face. Mr. Archer noticed and said, "See, Christian? You will enjoy yourself." The second sentence sounded a little like a command.
Angel's scowl returned to his face, "Stop calling me that, old man! My name's Angel." He had told him this several times already, but Mr. Archer refused to listen. He seemed like a government type, maybe law enforcement. That must have been why he had been sent to escort Angel here, or maybe it was to make sure that the trash that killed his father didn't come after him too.
Mr. Archer raised an eyebrow to Angel, then began to turn away, saying, "We'll meet again, Christian." With that, he left the docking bay, leaving Angel standing there, feeling awkward. What was that supposed to mean?
He looked at his reflection in a window, the uniform didn't really look that bad on him at all, and it made his eyes stand out a lot. A fiery orange, underneath his long dirty-blonde hair. "I might go military yet." He said to himself with a satisfied smirk. His collar came up kind of high around his neck, and the black stripe looked pretty sweet. Then he turned his attention back to everyone in the room. Not more than a few yards away, a guy in a respirator had kicked up a conversation with a very serious looking oriental girl with a cybernetic eye. Angel walked over to them, not interrupting their conversation, but standing close enough so that they could tell he was interested in joining the conversation. He brought a hand up in a wave, moving each of his fingers individually, "Hey, I'm Angel."
Setting
0.00 INK
"Kun-Ya," She responded calmly, blinking. Except, only one eye blinked. The cybernetic eye remained open. Staring. As though she had only winked, "I am Kun-Ya."
Silently, she took in their uniforms. Angel wore one like her own, with a black stripe. Nogond wore the gray stripe of a telekinetic.
They looked... interesting.
"Excited?" She asked calmly, glancing back to the transport vessel, "We're going into space."
Setting
0.00 INK
Angel also gave the guy in the respirator a quick look-over, the respirator looked custom, probably expensive too, he thought, unable to keep the idea of stealing and then selling it from his mind, but he quickly pushed the thoughts away, mentally telling himself 'No, I'm done doing that kind of stuff!' "And you're Nogond, I overheard. Make that thing on your own?" He asked, indicating the respirator.
Setting
0.00 INK
He then looked at Angel and noticed the cybernetic eyes. "Seems all of us haves scars from our past," he thought. Nogond then heard Angel questioning about his respirator. "Yes I built it myself, an chemical weapon destroyed my vocal chords and almost my lungs so now I need the respirator to breath and talk." Nogond said with his calm and a bit disturbing electronic voice.
"So how comes that I am the only ones that don't have cybernetic eyes? Is it some kind of new fashion?" Nogond said half jokingly.
Setting
0.00 INK
"Sure," She answered, even as her cybernetic eye swung separate from her other. Her cybernetic looked left, towards the transport vessel. Her normal eye was fixed on Nogond as she spoke, "But you can start a new fashion trend, right? Those will be in in a few months." She gestured to his respirator.
A shout went up across the docking bay. She turned around.
"Time to go," She murmured, "Shall we try for seats next to each other, up there? I don't fancy sitting next to strangers for a two day trip into space..."
Setting
0.00 INK
Next, Kun-Ya spoke, making a joke about the respirator becoming a fashion trend. Angel laughed a little at it, glad to have met some psychics, the first ones ever that were his age. The only other two he had met were his father, and that Mr. Archer guy, both telepaths. Then a shout rang across the docking bay, making Kun-Ya turn around, saying it was time to go.
He nodded at Kun-Ya, in response to her question about the three of them sitting together, then said, "Really? Two whole days?" That made Angel a little nervous. Nobody had told him it would take that long before getting to the University.
Setting
0.00 INK
He then nodded to Kun-Ya about sitting next to each other.
After a moment of silence he said, "I hope that we will learn some cool things in the academy."
Setting
0.00 INK
"Ever experienced a neural dive?" She asked calmly, "One of the most traumatizing experiences of my life. And the coolest I've ever been through."
She looked back to the transport, "Let's go before we get left behind."
She started off at a jog, heading for the transport. It was a light, practiced run. Military.
She'd clearly had training.
Setting
0.00 INK
He watched her run, comparing to the way he did. She definitely looked more.... together than him. He ran like a free-runner, slightly leaned forward, arms moving almost not at all, and every step was on his toes. Running like that, he could easily get over anything in his way, be it a line of police, a wall, or even a small building. It was how you ran 'underground', if you didn't want to get caught doing what you had to in order to survive, and to keep your family alive. Nonetheless, he could tell that Kun-Ya must have been a military brat or something, and she could probably even fight pretty well. Angel looked away from her, mentally bashing himself for even thinking like that, that was the kind of thinking that had died with his father in the Undercity.

Re: [OOC] Triple Stripes
As to the state of living... Hmmm....
Well, people travel by aircraft now, rather than cars. They no longer use fossil fuels; instead, they run of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power sources. Most people are fairly well off, and the government provides health care and makes sure everyone has a job... of course, there is still an underworld, crime, but there is less than there is now. There are still homeless, but they are few and go mostly unnoticed.
Truly wild places, unfortunately, are almost completely gone. There are only a few reservations around the world where animals and plants still grow free. There are also places called Refuges; giant glass domes, under which habitats flourish. These are basically museums, and educational resources.
Weaponry has advanced, as well; instead of material missiles, lasers and rays are most common. Most warfare takes place in space, with alien threats. There is little discord on planet Earth.
Let's see....
I think that's it. Any more specific questions, let me know. I can't think of any of the rest just now...
Re: [OOC] Triple Stripes
If Lilaiy's profile's better and you want him instead, I'd be more then willing to change my power to something else or maybe play as an alien or something if that'd be acceptable.
Re: [OOC] Triple Stripes
1) Is the Lower Sphere of Henriette University located on Earth? If not, what "planet's surface" is it located on?
2) What is the current state of life for Normals/the planet. For example, is the planet inhabitable or is it only being used for manufacturing purposes and people only live in the space stations? If people do still live on this planet, what is the most common setting for middle-range income families? And how much does this planet (still) resemble the Earth we live in now?
Thanks for your time!
Lilaiy
