Wearing The Cape

On August 18th, ten years ago for 3.2 seconds, every human being in the world simultaneously experienced total sensory deprivation-no sight, hearing, or physical sensation. A small percentage of individuals did later claim to have heard something, what one person described as "the sound of God striking a cosmic tuning fork." However, when people remember what came to be know as the Event, what they most remember is not the sensory blackout or the worldwide power failure that came with it, but what happened next. They remember where they were when the first superhumans appeared.

You are a "breakthrough". Breakthroughs are caused by an unpredictable survival mechanism. Something life-threatening happened to you and in that moment, your body reacted. The degree of empowerment caused by such a situation varies widely. Sometimes it's just enough to deal with the situation, other times far beyond that. For example, accidental electrocution kills and injures hundreds if not thousands of people every year, so electrokinetic breakthroughs are common. But the breakthrough could simply make you immune to electrical shock, or give you taser-like abilities. Or it could go above and beyond and give you the power to drain electrical systems, generate electromagnetic pulses, or even fly by electrostatic levitation.

Not everyone who received abilities were good and where there are superheroes, there must be supervillians. Miraculous powers have not made the world a more peaceful place. It is up to you which path you take after your breakthrough. Will you join the Sentinels and fight for the good of mankind? Or will use your powers to spread chaos and destruction? Or will you just go on with your life as if nothing happened at all?
