"The king has fallen."
Little by little, the old world crumbled, and not once did the king imagine that some of the pieces might fall on him. A kingdom made in a distant land only heard of in fairy tales, a place home to magic and dragons and all the stories of old. The place man and monster lived as one.
Those candle flames were like the lives of men. So fragile. So deadly. Left alone, they lit and warmed. Let run rampant, they would destroy the very things they were meant to illuminate. Embryonic bonfires, each bearing a seed of destruction so potent it could tumble cities and dash kings to their knees.
This is where our story begins.
Legends, stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past.
Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful. But he was born into an unforgiving world.
We often forget that we all have our origins; a story before ours. A world wrought for all it's worth, oceans stained red with the blood of the innocent. This story goes back to the very beginning, to where it all started.
Before they were legends and stories, they were alive.
"The kingdom is cursed."
It all started with a curse. Foolish words spewed by the king that sat too high upon his throne. He would be their undoing. A Witch brought to her knees by the foolishness of man did the only thing she thought was right at the time. She turned to the Gods. Or in this case. The Dragons.
The Dragons had been around longer than man. They came to this land first, raising their young here and claiming it. Men followed behind, ripping the land from the once peaceful creatures and building their mark upon it. Claiming what was not their's to claim.
The Dragons, worshiped like Gods, despised mankind.
When the Witch came forth seeking help, the Dragons swept at the chance to bend men and break them. Together, the Witch and the Dragons weaved a curse so powerful there would be no hope it break it.
Together the Dragons and the Witch flew over the kingdom, reading the Humans Hearts, to find who was filled with greed, and who was not. Those with greed in their heart were cursed to never show emotion. To be cruel and heartless. However, there were few who were not fileld with greed or a hunger for power, if they were to show emotion - if they were discovered by the cursed - they would be shunned and hated, and exiled to a land away from the kingdom.
"The curse can be broke."
The King has given the call of arms.
The king has seen the error in his ways. He cannot bear to stand and watch his kingdom fall to greed and desperation, so he has declared that any willing being in the land is to go on a journey, to find the witch and find the way to break the curse.
However, he should have known better. Those who had been cursed were blinded by their greed, no matter how small it had been before, it was no unbearable for many. To them, only their lives mattered, not the better of the kingdom. The free stepped up, prepared to take on the weight of the quest as they reveled themselves to the Kingdom as the hearted. The king - as blinded as the rest - decided that those with emotions could not bear the journey alone, and sent some of his personal guard with him. However, time is dwindling and they must move at a brisk pace. If they do not all is lost.
And wait, what is this about the princess's? Could they be as corrupted as the rest of their family? Or is it possible they are the key to redeeming the kingdom?
