Introduction
Every story begins with something… a memory. However, this story begins differently. You’re stripped of everything you own but some clothes. A grey singlet, a brown long sleeved button up and khaki green pants. You cannot remember what’s happened in the last few hours. It was a regular day for you, and then your mind goes blank.
But now you wake up in a cold, steel room with no windows and a single door, which you can’t open. The lights above you flicker, before puttering out completely. In front of you, a screen appears, glowing white in the darkness that’s engulfed you. It shows you a video of you in that room, alone in front of the screen, watching it. Then it flickers to several others, you count three others of your gender, four others of the opposite. They all look as disoriented, perhaps as scared as you.
Then writing appears. The following words scroll across the screen:
Welcome to my world, children. Each of you, in your own way, has damaged those around you. You murdered and thought no one knew. You destroyed your body and stole for drugs. You burned down an orphanage. Whatever you did, you deserve to be found and taught a lesson. And that’s why you’re here. If you pass my tests, then you will earn your freedom. But remember to be on your best behaviour always. You’ve done enough damage to the world. Now see if your punishments make you do just enough more to live, to find solace and peace.
Or you might just loose it and fail.
There are seven others in this maze-like building. Don’t bother looking for windows. For doors. There is only one. And I open it at my will. I open it when I believe you’ve earned your freedom. And screaming for help will not work. No one will hear you.
We are forty kilometres beneath the Earth’s outer surface. Your pleas will be drowned out by tonnes and tonnes of soil and steel.
There are a few rules here.
My game is simple. You’ll be given time to roam around my facility before we begin. Make some friends, do whatever you please in these next few hours. I’m not going to kill you, so don’t look for weapons. Check your necks. That dog-tag is your clock and calendar. It will show you when it is. It may be important later, so hold on to it. Now, after I open these doors, you may do as you please. There is a room at the very end of the corridor outside your doors. It’s a rec room. I’ve been kind enough to leave some books in there. A board game or two. A deck of cards. I’m not a cruel man. There is also a bathroom in there, through the door on the far left. The door on the opposite side is the door to a smaller hall, which splits into two other, smaller rooms. Bedrooms. Boys on the left, girls on the right.
There is nothing you can break in the bathroom to deal with your addiction, and the only food in the rec room is non-perishable or regularly delivered for you. There you’ll find honey, sugar, tea and coffee if I’m feeling generous. There is also bread, milk, and meat which I deliver when you children are not in the room. I do not fear your wrath. I’m no coward. But I am not stupid.
Now, our rules are simple: play the games, or there will be further punishment.
Enjoy my game children.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 9 authors

She glanced across at Sasha, leaning over and taking her hand, squeezing it gently. "This... this will be easy, right?" She then paused and looked over at the others, her anger, frustration, her fear coming to a boiling point. "Will you all move your asses already?! There's no way, no way we're getting out unless we all work together!"
She glanced down, feeling rude, bossy. If she wanted to survive, she would have to keep up good relationships with all of them. She rubbed at her eyes with the heel of her palm, then gave them all a muttered apology under her breath, her frizzy locks falling in front of her face.
Daniel wanted to laugh at how ridiculous everything sounded at the moment. Maybe it was just the weird ass room getting to his head, but suddenly he felt like he was loosing it.
How the hell were they supposed to get out of this? It seemed unlikely, impossible even, but he couldn't be out of the game that quickly, could he? It hadn't even fully started.
How pathetic. He thought, scoffing to himself. Truly pathetic, me.
"Shut up." He muttered under his breath, scowling at the floor. "No one asked for your opinion."
Once he realized what he was doing, Daniel frowned. Talking to myself. Fantastic. You're out of the game, Dan. Go home, die, whatever.
He really was beginning to feel like a lunatic.
Once Julie stopped talking, Daniel casted a nervous glance at her. She was still annoying, yeah, but at least at the moment she had some sense. Perhaps it was all just tactics for her, but for the first time since meeting the junkie, Julie actually came off as friendly.
"Do you believe that?" He asked, forcing himself to not sound as afraid as he felt. Before, Daniel could clearly picture facing Death in the eye and laughing at it, but now that it was actually possible. . . he was beginning to feel not so immortal after all. What was he? Just a creep of a teenager who liked to watch things burn. Did that sound like someone who could save their ass? No. Definitely not. "Getting out of this, I mean. You think we can?"
She glanced up to Daniel. He looked more nervous than he had in the common room. Frowning, she tilted her head and considered the question. "Well, yes," she murmured, rubbing her free hand across the back of her neck. She thought about it for a moment, trying to remember what she'd learned at school when she had actually attented. "Yes," she said more assuredly. "This game keeper whoever guy, he's a narcassist. He wants to feel special, like he's got some kind of control. That means he will give us a chance. A slim one, but a chance nonetheless. He wants to feel empowered but not responsible, so won't directly take our lives into his hands. It's up to us, now. Daniel, it's up to us. We can do it. We just have to work together and grit our teeth."
She sounded realised how smart she sounded. That'd be a first for... well since forever. Maybe laying off the hit was a good idea for her about now. She'd never gone more than a day or two without hitting up and she had no idea how long she or any of them had been out. Sure, she had that nagging want at the back of her mind, but it was more of a whine than a shout now.
