Introduction
Corporations have slowly been taking power away from their respective governments. Not outright of course. Buying politicians, donating money in elections. Slowly corporations have pushed their way to the top of the world. Now they don't even bother to hide their influence. Some have their own, "defense forces", private military's more or less. They rule the world with augments, keeping the population hungry for more and under their thumb.
Cybernetic Augments are able to be implanted by dialing in to the similarities in our DNA. There are eventual complications. High-end augments can be dialed in to your specific DNA, allowing for no complications and rejection. Add-ons or transforming augments are more common at these higher end versions. Makeshift augments, those used by street thugs and gangs, are usually scrapped together. Rejection is common among those.
Biological augments look inward, to the untouched potential of our DNA. Using these biological augments, they are able to enhance ones body to ridiculous degrees. Huge increases in strength, eyesight, and other possibilities, all from our own latent potential. Splicing, the act of taking desirable traits from animals and putting them into humans, is becoming more and more common. Deformities are also common due to the violent change to ones DNA.
Due to the nature of the augments, it is a one or the other deal. Since the cybernetic augments have to dial into specific points of DNA, cybernetic augments are incompatible with anyone who has received a biological augment due to the severely altered DNA of a bio augment patient. Anyone who already has a cybernetic augment will have their body reject that augment if they receive a biological augment.
Now one government has begun a rise to power, ready to put power back in to the hands of the people.

The world is controlled by a number of corporations.
North America-A heavily contested area, North America is controlled by a number of corporations.
- The west coast, and Alaska, are dominated by the cybernetic corporation Cole Networked International, formed from a conglomerate from the old days of Silicon Valley, specializing in cranial implants.
- The midwest area is controlled by the biotech corporation Roth Aeon Bio, helping farmers by giving them strength to help them with their everyday tasks. Specialties are muscular augments.
- The east coast is dominated by another large cyber corporation, Wilcox Scientific. Specializing in prosthesis, both basic and advanced.
- Canada, due to its large number of medical corporations, transitioned into bio augments as time went on, with the leader being Paragon Realizations Inc., specializing in highly specialized, very dangerous mental augments.
- Mexico managed to make a killing in cybernetic implants, under the guidance of Engineered Autosoft, and specializes not in whole augments, but add-ons for various uses.
South America-South America is under a huge monopoly by Gregory International. They do not specialize in augments, instead supplying other companies with raw materials.
Europe-Europe is most dominated by the biological corporation Holcomb Biological, specializing in splicing. Sweden has managed to remain independent of the rest of Europe through the cybernetics company Imperial Cybernetics Research. They hold no specialty, but are always on the cutting edge of new technology.
Africa-Africa is split quite evenly in 2, with a heavily contested area in the center. The north is under the control of biological company Sanctum Applications, specializing in survival augments due to the harsh environment. The south is controlled by cybernetic corporation Newton Specialized, a combat oriented augment producer.
Asia-Asia is another highly contested area.
- China and the surroundings are dominated by another supplier, Applied Mechanical International.
- Russia and the middle east are ruled by Garner Royal, a cybernetics corporation specializing in lavish augments that look stunning.
- India and Australia are controlled by the biological company Barber Biological Paragon, specializing in augments with little to no deformities, although the options are quite limited currently.
- Japan and South Korea and controlled by the cybernetic corporation Joyce Informational Inc. They specialize in custom, high end augments.
You have been called by the government of Japan, one of the central hubs of the world since the augment revolution. The government seeks to take back control, through whatever mean necessary, and they seek to use you to that end.

RULES
1. Literate Roleplayers only, or someone willing to learn. This is going to have a film noir feel to it. Long posts and those willing to make them generally bring the quality of a role play up. Small posts are acceptable when things get intense.
2. Dedicated Roleplayers only. If you think your going to bail on this roleplay fairly quickly, don't apply. I've seen too many roleplays die for that reason.
3. NO GOD MODDING. I will tell you if you are overpowered. On the flip side of that coin. Don't be afraid to ask. If you can justify it well, I'll generally allow it.
4. Be nice. I won't have people being blatantly rude to each other OOC. In game it's fine, tensions will rise, characters will hate each other, but I get annoyed when it gets taken personally.
5. Swearing is acceptable, we're all adults here. People swear a lot. That's the real world. However, I would prefer if the f-bomb wasn't dropped every other word.
6. Don't go overboard on augments. No matter how many, not all of them are going to be special.
7. Bio augments are limited to one splice, and one base augment, due to the radical DNA change.
8. Augments aren't necessary. Augments have become so common they have been prepared for. Someone without them will prove equally useful.
9. Above all have fun.
10. Post "Auger's for life" in the OOC so I know you've read the intro and rules. Do this before you submit a char. I won't approve if you don't do this.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 6 authors
Tobimaru Shinra stood at the top of his tower in Tokyo. His office was overly large for him. He looked out the window, which made up most of his walls, out to the courtyard below. He wasn't really a politician. His family was incredibly rich. Receiving funds from investing in different bio and cyber augment companies over the years. Recently, he payed off all of the governments debts to any companies, making it independent again. He restructured it from the ground up. For the first time in a long time, someone held a government that was not controlled by a company. And He sought to do something with it.
Tobimaru was deep in thought when he was interrupted by his door opening. It was one of his interns.
"Mr. Shinra, the group of people you have called here has begun to arrive."
"Thank you" He responded. "Please inform everyone to let them up. Please have them wait just outside my office for now. Make sure they are comfortable."
"Yes sir."
As she walked out, Tobimaru returned his view to outside, seeing the first of the cars pull up. He straightened his tie and prepared himself. It was going to be an interesting day for sure.
"I'm Samuel Obodo. I'm here to see Mr. Shinra. Is he here?"
"Yes, Mr. Shinra is waiting for you and the others on the top floor. He said to tell you to wait in the room just outside his office. Just take the elevator all the way to the top, and you'll step right out into the waiting room."
Thanking the front desk clerk, Samuel turned and made his way to the nearest elevator. Once inside, his infolink sounded off, notifying him that one of his bosses were contacting him. Sure enough the voice of Michael Church, one of Newton Specialized's head security chiefs, sounded off. "Obodo, are you in yet?" "In the building sir, but not the office. Apparently he's expecting more than just me, and I guess he wants to let us all in at once so he doesn't have to give the 'I suppose you're wondering why I've called you here today...' speech." "Alright. Keep me posted." "Will do, sir."

Amelia wasn't entirely sure what to do next. For the first time in her brief existence she was completely alone and had no direction. Daddy- Dr. Rutan was confirmed dead and Amelia herself was being chased across the net by whoever it was that had been chasing her. Speaking of which, was that virus attacking one of her firewalls? Quickly, she deleted the thing, making a copy of it for possible use later, but it was followed by two more. Amelia repeated the process, but more viruses, and several worms now, bombarded her firewalls.
Seeing no choice but to retreat, the AI disabled as much as she could of that network, before sending off a few of the copied viruses off as a decoy. Jumping from server to server as quickly as possible to evade capture, she eventually detected a wirelessly connected communications device that was currently in use. With a little adjusting of her code Amelia dove inside to hide.
----------
Just as Samuel's conversation with Mr. Church ended, he was overwhelmed by a burst of static that was loud enough to be painful, while his HUD twisted, writhed, and eventually rebooted entirely. Moments later, it was as if nothing had happened, save for the fact that Samuel was now leaning heavily on the wall of the elevator. As much as he should get himself checked out to see what had just happened, and as much as he wanted to for that matter, Samuel still had a job to do, and he couldn't leave until it was finished. When the lift finally stopped, he stepped off and took one of the chairs in the waiting room.
Fortunately, the massive tower was sound proof enough to block out the outside noise. Even the air was of cleaner quality and the place was virtually empty. It'd allow him plenty of space, and he needed it. He removed the headphone on his left ear, the noise level skyrocketed for that one ear. But it let him track the elevator...top floor from the sounds of it. The receptionist began to address him, a reflex caused him to grab her mouth before she could speak.
"Tobimaru...top floor I take it," his voice came out as barely more than a whisper. It was only at that volume that a voice wouldn't cause him pain...provided he had his earplugs in still. He received a nod in response, so he pushed the person away and returned the headphone to his left ear before summoning the elevator. His hands went to his pocket during the wait and stayed there the entire trip up, a tent stake gripped in each hand. When he stepped out of the elevator, two people had already arrived, a girl and a guy. Apparently they were waiting to enter the room at the end of the hall...Shinra's office presumably. With the slightest of nods in acknowledgment of their existence, he marched to the door. His 'knock' took the form of a full force kick, the door didn't even budge.
The taxi pulled up to the tower and Alfred paid the driver the minimum with no tip. The driver began to argue with him until eventually he became angry, pulled out some change, and threw it at the man's face. "Le pousser dans le cul!" He yelled at the man. He then stormed into the building. When he walked in he looked around for the elevator. He didn't know where this Tobimaru's office was but the man was rich. Rich pricks always chose the top floors. He guessed it had something to do with the order of the pyramid. He waited a few minutes until it reached the floor. Stepping out he spotted two men and a woman. He figured they were there for the same thing he was."Who else are we waiting for?" He spoke loudly throughout the room, expecting somebody to answer.
"If you want to take down the door, I've got a coin you can borrow to unscrew the hinges."
This was of course meant as a joke, albeit an awkward attempt at one. The third person to arrive, aside from Samuel himself, was the first to speak. "Who else are we waiting for?" Looking around at the others to see if they had any clue, Samuel shrugged. "If you were told we'd be waiting for others, then you were told more than I was. All I know is that I was called here for a meeting with a Mr. Shinra, a meeting which will apparently have more attendees that I was originally led to believe." Not that Samuel had any issue with that, it was just unexpected.
----------
Meanwhile, Amelia was just beginning to open the zipped file she had placed herself in when she jumped to Samuel's cranial implant. For the moment, she couldn't do anything due to the nature of the augmentation, and how different it was from the computers she was used to traveling through and residing in. This could be easily remedied, it would just take some time as she restructured herself in a way that would make her programs more compatible with the implant, though she'd make sure to save a copy of her previous state, in case another evacuation was called for.
After a few seconds of tampering, she could access the feed from the optic replacements. This confirmed Amelia's suspicions about being inside the implant of an augmented individual. The idea was rather odd, and vaguely disturbing, but it would have to do for the moment. This was an excellent hiding spot. With this in mind, she resumed her reconstruction, watching the feed for any interesting developments as she did.
Over the next month, Jack worked to research the situation. Potential allies were always welcome to the cause, and this was the strongest to present itself to date. He tracked Mr. Shinra's financial transactions back over the last decade, noting the vast sums paid to several different corporations as he bought out their government bonds. His family had been heavily invested into companies marketing and developing different augments, but what blue blood these days wasn't? And those investments had been on the decline recently, the portfolio diversified. Theories on Mr. Shinra's intentions sparked seventeen threads, only three of which devolved into trolling and flame wars, a rather impressive ratio. Jack also initiated contact with the User that had previously reached out to him, making demands of various other pieces of information. At the same time, Jack and his more skilled hackers began putting together the framework for a massive cyber attack, to be used as retaliation if this did all turn out to be an elaborate ruse.
Finally, the time came to send a representative on behalf of the PHC to meet with this Mr. Shinra. Of course, they wanted Jack himself to come, but that was surely too dangerous. Jack would much prefer they keep their contact limited to PHC initiated messages in the darknet, but he was assured this was quite impossible for what they had in mind. He knew that even if he did not reveal himself, a corporation was patient enough to bide its time and build his trust until an error was made. Therefore, Jack decided deception would be his best tool. "Jack" could be any one of PHC's members; no one was supposed to know what he looked like. He was only himself. Therefore, Jack decided he would meet with this Mr. Shinra in person, acting as a representative of "Jack", PHC's mysterious leader. If it was a trap, he could trigger the cyber attack at any moment, and would most likely be largely ignored himself due to being thought only a low level PHC initiate, easily expendable. Meanwhile, they would continue hunting for Jack, ignorant of the fact that he'd been right under their noses the entire time. It was perfect, and a delicious irony. So it was that Jack flew to Japan, crashed on the couch of a sympathizer for a few nights, and spent the morning watching others arrive to Mr. Shinra's office through a hacked camera feed.
"Heh aren't you the funny one," Axel replied to the joker. His voice was at a normal talking volume since his ears were covered, he didn't need to hear his voice for the conversation. Then again he read the guy's lips more than heard him actually say the joke. "Next you're going to tell me we're here to see the same guy." Though he suspected the loud voice of the third man drowned him out, it pained him even through his ears were covered.
"Who else are we waiting for?"The guy sounded French, which would explain why he was so fucking loud. He turned around, expecting the guy would get an answer and he was not disappointed. Funny guy also had something to say on the matter.
"If you were told we'd be waiting for others, then you were told more than I was. All I know is that I was called here for a meeting with a Mr. Shinra, a meeting which will apparently have more attendees that I was originally led to believe." This was more than a little buzz kill for Axel, he wasn't here for business so much to remove whatever had given him away. He liked being alone and who knows what would come after him if everyone could track him down now. Well he could do what he came for anyways, but that would make a bigger mess... or a bigger show if this was the proper audience.
"What're you lot here for, a business meeting or a god damned security contract?" He was asking a question based entirely on their profile appearance but it was as polite as he could get at this time.
Alden had actually arrived in Tokyo the previous week. He didn't have a hard time finding the building he was looking for either. He had the taxi driver take him directly to Shinra Tower, the former government capital building, renamed as such after the Shinra's recent takeover. It was a tall building, but not even close to the tallest in the area. He wanted to secure what he assumed would be his base of operations, and Mr. Shinra, his soon to be employer. He was thinking 3 moves ahead. From the sound of the invitation, this was a long term job. With nowhere to go after his termination with Imperial Cybernetics Research, he planned on taking this job, and few things would make him reconsider.
After taking in the surroundings, and the building, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He gave into his sense of wanderlust. He began his stroll, although calling it a stroll was an understatement. He spent the next week wandering the surrounding area. He slept whenever he felt like it, and he ate while walking. He walked up and down several buildings more then once, grumbling to himself when he did so, angry at himself for the wasted time. At the end of the week, he walked back up to the building, a little later then he was supposed to be, but happy with his endeavor. He had most of the surrounding few blocks memorized, having picked out all of the advantageous spots in town for various reasons, both for sniping and counter-sniping. He smiled to himself, turning to take one more look at the town before walking in. He was often scolded for his wanderlust, but it came in handy when he was given plenty of time to scout an area.
He walked up to the receptionist. "I'm here to see Mr. Shira." The woman huffed, she seemed to be sick of the question, or perhaps the characters asking the question. "Top Floor, the guards will let you through. Wait outside the office."
"Thank You!" He said gratefully, despite her attitude. He ran up to the closing elevator, tossing his case in the way to keep the door from closing on him. He walked in a picked up his case, slinging it over his shoulder once more. He hit the button for the top floor.
He arrived to several people talking to each other, and entered the conversation on a strange note.
"What're you lot here for, a business meeting or a god damned security contract?"
Alden chimed in. "From what I understand were here to help Mr. Shinra with a special project. He walked up to the man who had spoke out, and stuck out his hand. "Alden Jerome Anderson." He looked around to the others and said, "Nice to make all of your acquaintance."
"From what I understand were here to help Mr. Shinra with a special project." The man answered, to Axel he was on the loud side but that was because he was talking normally. Furthermore the guy walked up to him and opted to shake his hand during introduction,"Alden Jerome Anderson."A rather bland introduction, but Axel gripped the guys fingertips with his own...he'd just about had enough personal contact today and offered the quick yet wimpy handshake the grip allowed.
"Axel Grunemann, if this is some kind of special project then everyone here is packing skills. Personally, you name it I can drive it...and ego aside I doubt there's a person on the planet that can beat me in a close range fight. I'm also fairly adept at other things, if we share now we might be able to figure out what we're here for." He didn't mention he'd had no real combat training, but his augments made him formidable in confined spaces. Short of a ridiculously large or busy room, his augments let him catch and react to even the slightest of movements faster than average human could process. Even augmented individuals had difficulty keeping up, of course this meant him too. His brain had a really hard time keeping up with the speed of his reflexes at times.
It took lees than ten minutes by subway to put him outside of the Shinra Tower. While he had been riding, he continued to watch the office using his goggles. Quite the diverse group was beginning to form, with a heavily augmented man trying to kick open the door, and another stepping out from the elevator behind him. More people than Jack would have guessed. Nothing that he could do, though. He was committed to his course. If this did all turn out to be a trap, and he was killed, at least PHC would have footage of his death. It would cause quite a scandal, and hopefully draw more to the cause. Jack would much prefer to live, but martyrdom had its perks. While on the train, he also listened to some music, did some editing for a video he planned to upload later, and practiced his latest pen flipping. No sense wasting time, right? It was when he reached the Tower itself and walked inside that he had to focus. Mostly. He could still listen to his music and flip the pen around. He looked at the woman behind the reception desk, who after giving him a glance up and down narrowed her already squinty eyes, then glanced at the elevator. Jack ignored her. Instead, he continued around the corner, opening a door into a stairwell that spiraled up into infinity. It would be a long climb, but Jack had plenty of energy. Besides, he wouldn't be tricked into using the elevator. That's what they wanted him to do.
Samuel had remained fairly quiet up til this point, though admittedly not as quiet as the woman who'd arrived just after himself, but since that would require everyone's answers, he decided to speak up. "Well, I'm a security specialist for Newton Specialized. We weren't given any explanation other than Mr. Shinra requesting to speak with me." His voice was low so as not to disturb Axel, who was clearly sensitive to noise, or so his HUD was telling him.
Realizing a bit late that Alden's last statement had been to the whole group, and this included Samuel, he rose and extended his own hand. "Sorry, almost forgot. My name is Samuel Obodo. It's nice to meet you as well."
----------
With a bit more tweaking, Amelia was able to gain access to the rest of the cranial implant, including the audio receptors. She was just considering informing her host that she had taken up temporary residence in his skull, when she head something of interest. Apparently this man, Samuel Obodo s she now knew he was called, worked for Newton Specialized. Since she didn't want to be deleted upon discovery, Amelia decided to hold off talking to him until she'd saved herself to a few computers, and thus knew she couldn't be eliminated quite as easily.
In her search for a reasonably secure, but not too secure of course, place to store the backups, Amelia noted that, among the things being broadcast from the building, one was a real-time video feed. After stashing away the backup data, Amelia patched into the feed. Currently, it showed a first-person view of someone walking up stairs. Assuming this would be explained at some point Amelia kept watching, though she did keep a good deal of her attention on the group on the top floor. Maybe while she was at it, she'd hack into the building's video cameras.
After scanning the room she looked at her watch, "Mr. Shinra should be here in a while from what I know he's a really busy person, so he might come or he might not even show up and just give us orders over a video phone." Coughing slightly she blushed, "Oh right my name is Liara Thompson who are you guys? And please be formal about it, we're going to be working together from now on so at least try to get along ok?"
Alden paused to set down his case. He stood it upright, and put one elbow on it, leaning heavily, giving him a very casual appearance.
"I never expected this many people. I expected a small security force, but this seems more then that. Even stranger given that he plans to hire us all "indefinitely", or that's what he wrote to me at least."
He looked to the group, and saw an interesting number of characters. He wondered why they were picked here.
"What else is there? We've got a few security specialists, but just from look we've got different skill sets. And a few bios too with some..........strange augments. Why us?"
He was dressed in a pair of baggy black pants, the bottoms of which were torn and worn. Three different belts circled his waist, hanging down from his hips to varying degrees. He wore a tight blue shirt beneath a zip-up sweatshirt, the front of which was currently open, and a charcoal colored cloth circled his neck. His goggles were pushed up to his forehead, which only drew the eyes to his short yet wildly spiked hair. His blue eyes passed over each of those that had arrived so far, while his lips twitched towards a frown. Had a more diverse group ever been gathered? Such a wide array of augmentations, and now a man with none at all. But perhaps Mr. Shinra would soon enlighten them.
Before he could inquire as to why she might think that, a many with improbably spiky hair stepped into the room. The way he was dressed didn't strongly indicate why he was here, other than it being unlikely he was here for a job interview. Perhaps he was there for the same reason the rest were? In terms of clothing, Samuel himself was distinctly less inconspicuous. Garbed in loose black slacks, a dark shirt, and a long, trench coat , he looked something like a spy or private detective out of a nineteen-fifties noir film.
"Hello messieurs..." He looked at Liara. "and madame. My name is Alfred Dubois. When Shinra sent his message he put a number so high I just couldn't refuse the offer of his employment. Personally I think Japan is a boring shit hole but I hope that this job will prove me wrong." Alfred said as he moved to a chair to sit down in.
