a character in “Change of Heart”, as played by Angel's Whisper

Description

Image
BASIC
- Full Name: Fang, Kai
- Nickname(s): Kai
- Age: 23
- Gender: Male
- Role: Equalist
- Occupation: Blacksmith's apprentice

APPEARANCE
- Hair and Eyes: His eyes are a darker shade of jade green. His hair is untamed, spiky hair is a mixture of russet, lion, and wheat (shades of brown).
- Complexion: Kai's skin is a creamy, porcelain color. His arm is splattered with an undescribable shadowy smog on his left bicep.
Height and Weight: He stands at 5'11" and weighs 153 lbs.
- Body Type: He has a particularly lean yet undeniably muscular body frame.

PERSONAL INFORMATION
- Likes: Kai enjoys training with his trademark katana any minute he has free time from his apprentice errands. Almost as much as he enjoys that though, he adores resting under a majestic Pecan tree from his clouded childhood.
- Dislikes: He has grown to despise benders from a tragic scene in his childhood; losing his beloved elder sister.
- Quote: "If you're not ready to risk your life for a loved one, you aren't worthy of being alive,"
Image-- Theme song: Shooting Star- Home Made Kazoku

- Potential Interest: TBA "Hmph," (=-_-=) (Currently in denial)
- Other: He learned under an expert Kendo Master for all his life, even exercised his skill to the point of exhaustion after the death of his sister. He spends almost all his spare time making weapons in the Blacksmith, being surrounded by molting metal somehow relaxing to him, or in the Dojo practicing his Kendo, to exert some stress or simply pass the time.
Personality: He is a distant but quietly caring and protective older brother type. Kai, despite his relatively calm nature, he is actually an explosion waiting to happen; having an unpredictable temper. He tends to wander when in a group, and easily finds himself being controlled by his legs than the other way around, but finds it useful when distracted by his thoughts. In contrast to his isolating personality, he is actually easily trusting, making him vulnerable to easily get hurt by others.

So begins...

Ling smiled at the thought but shook her head. “I know and I really do appreciate it, but temptation would be too great for you wouldn’t it?” she asked. The blonde haired male approached Kaito and herself and held his hand out, introducing himself as Kai. Ling took his hand and shook it.

“My name is Fei Ling, but you can just call me Ling. I was looking forward to actually working with an Earthbender who knew how to control their element. Most of the Earthbenders are usually just flinging discs and hoping it would hit us. If I could learn against a bender who has control, it might have been easier to be more offensive towards benders who didn’t,” she replied. She held his eye-contact, not one to break it and just smiled.

“If you’d like, we could take the princess here to Huang’s. He closed the bar today but I know where he keeps the spare key. The match doesn’t start until a few hours from now anyways and it has no windows. No one would be able to find her in there,” she suggested, finally turning her gaze towards Ya Le and pulling her hand from Kai’s.

“I’m sorry I don’t know your name,” she added while extending her hand towards Ya Le.

Ya Le

Swallowing the rest of the remaining macaroons in her mouth, Ya Le watched as Kai finally interacted with the red-head, Ling. Seeing her coming her way, Ya Le dusted the non-existing crumbs off her hands. Straightening her posture, she reached for Ling's hand and gently shook it with a grin. "Hey, I'm no princess but I'm Ke Ya Le." She then released Ling's hand and pointed her thumb towards her basket. "If you ever get hungry, feel free to have some food." Since Ya Le couldn't go out and openly feed the homeless, she decided to give the pastries to anyone who wanted it.

After her introduction, she walked by Ling's side, basket in her hand. She didn't know much about crushes and all that jazz, but Kai helped her with the guards so she decided to repay him by being his little "matchmaker". Even though Kai denied his interest in the girl, Ya Le could tell that he was obviously love struck. She didn't think Kai was the type to be into girls that much so he must've knew Ling long enough to have his eye on her.

Hoping to have some girl-to-girl talk, Ya Le spoke lowly to Ling. "So, anyone caught your eye, lately?"

“Well, now that I have a name I can call you Ya Le instead of princess,” Ling smiled as Ya Le pointed towards the basket and mentioned the sweets. “Oh, very tempting but I shall pass for now. I had a big breakfast this morning before my brother and I went to Oyaji,” she replied and smiled. “Caught my eye?” she questioned as she turned to look at the girl.

“Oh…Oh! No sorry I didn’t know what you meant by that,” Ling chuckled nervously while rubbing the back of her neck. “I don’t really…look. Huang isn’t the easiest person to impress and usually my brother intimidates everyone who I was interested in. It’s not easy growing up the only daughter and sister. My mother died when I was young so my brothers have taken it upon themselves to keep an eye out on me,” she replied. When she really thought about it, no one did manage to capture her eye. Huang had managed to scare off all of her potential dates and really, she didn’t want to put another person through that torture. She laughed a bit.

“What about you? Has anyone caught your eye lately?” she decided to turn it on Ya Le. “What about the blonde? You were talking to him this morning were you not?” she asked.

Ya Le

Ya Le listened to Ling. She knew what it felt like to be the only daughter and an only child. Ever since her older brother started taking part in martial arts, all the boys were seperated from the girl- in this case, girl- to avoid any distraction. She rarely even had the time to have her own love life from keeping her grandfather's bakery on the down low. If she did see anyone that interested her, her guards were usually there- often intimidating the poor guy. "I know how you feel- except I had unwanted guards as my brotherly figures."

“What about you? Has anyone caught your eye lately?” Ya Le looked down at the ground, thinking. "What about the blonde? You were talking to him this morning were you not?" Ya Le's head snapped back up to Ling. Blonde?... "You mean Kai? Oh no! Heh, you got it all wrong. He's actually a customer at my grandfather's bakery and I guess he just recognized me at the cafe. To be honest, he's more of an older brother to me even though we just met this morning." Ya Le let out an awkward laugh, mentally cringing at the thought of her and Kai together. She'll admit that he was cute, but it'd feel too much like incest. "Besides, he's already interested into someone though he's in denial."

Denial? Please, Kai found himself craning his neck to listen in on the girls' conversation. This would normally be completely out of character for the blonde, and he knew that himself having a quarrel with himself earlier, but after hearing his name, the curiosity lured him in.  What Ya said was true though-not about being in denial since that was completely preposterous-but about him feeling like an older brother to the brunette noble. Being the one and only male in his family of two after his parents were deceased, he unawarely took on a ridiculously overprotective role as the brother. For some reason, he felt the brother sense coming back to him when he was near Ya.

The blonde continued listening in, though it was starting to get difficult due to the fact of all the crowds swarming in the Arena area. He seemed to have forgotten his Earth bending friend just a few feet away.

Masami began to run back to his apartment. He passed though a group of people nearly hitting them. He turned around "I'm sorry!" He yelled as he continued to run. he had to ge tback to his apartment and quickly shower so he wouldn't be late to Yoshes' meeting place. He ran as fast as he could to get back. Once he got home he jumped in the shower and got dressed. He place his outfit back in his bag and rushed to go to get back to the cafe. He was breathless when he finally got to the cafe he sat down just to get his breath back.

Kaito listened to the girls talk, they talked like old friends, even though they just met. He stood a bit farther back from the group, taking in the sights, looking at the crowd already lining up at the Arena to get the best seats or to fight with each other over which team would win. He was amazed at the amount of joy gained from such a simple thing, how benders and non-benders alike joined to watch six people fight using their bending. He felt bad for Ling, seeing as she took part in this homogenizing event on a regular basis, yet had to be left out for her match. She seemed as if she wanted to believe that her brother could find a replacement bender, but he was still more than willing to help. He noticed one of La Ye's family guard moving through the crowd. He moved up closer a bit and said, "We should get out of here, those guards are still poking around. Where is this bar, Ling?"

Someone ran by and almost hit them, but Kaito didn't pay it much mind.

"Huh, denial only leads to heartache eventually," Ling whispered to Ya Le. She couldn't help but laugh since it reminded her of a time when she was in denial about her feelings for someone. Of course she never acted upon them and ended up heartbroken when she did. "Oh, it's just down this way. Believe it or not it's just passed Bai Long bakery," she replied and pointed towards the general direction.

"So, you never answered my question," she continued prodding Ya Le. "Is there anyone in particular then who has caught your eye? What about the brunette behind us, Kaito?" she whispered as she glanced over her shoulder, noticing the blonde trying to eavesdrop on their conversation.

"Huh, denial only leads to heartbreak eventually," Kai an indescribable urge wash over him; as if he wanted to prove her wrong-but his stubbornness forced it down-shaking his head clear of thoughts before listen to Ling's directions for the bar.

The crowds were slowly becoming a hindrance in Kai's eavesdropping, he was only able to hear partial words of Ling's whisper. "... Anyone... Caught your eye... Brunette... Kaito?" The blonde fought the urge to scoff from disbelief. Kaito and Ya? I'd love to live to see the day. Ling's words were beginning to be drowned out by the road of the crowd. Kai was about to step forward to try and get closer to listen in before his jade orbs met with those honey-brown once more but in different terms. Damn... I'm dead.

Ya Le

"Is there anyone in particular then who has caught your eye? What about the brunette behind us, Kaito?" Ya Le looked back to try to see Kaito but found Kai instead. Wow. Didn't know he was the nosey type. Well, you learn something new every day. Ignoring Kai, she looked back at Ling. The image of Kaito rolling his eyes upon mentioning her and her guards replayed in her head. "No potential interest for me. I think Kaito might have some issues with rich people so I doubt we'll even be compatible- Ow!" Ya Le squeaked as a light brown haired man bumped into them, rushing to get somewhere else. He said sorry so she didn't pay too much attention to him.

"We should get out of here, those guards are still poking around. Where is this bar, Ling?" Hearing that, Ya Le scanned the place. Surely, there was Si Ting, one of the family's best guards, talking to a couple- most likely asking if they've seen me. "Uh oh," she looked away from the guard before he could spot her and held her basket tighter.

Kaito asked for the bar's direction and she slightly grinned at the mention of her grandfather's bakery. She was happy for 2.3 miliseconds until she remembered that a guard was by them. Wasting no more time to flee from the guard, she picked up her pace.

“Yeah well you know they say opposites attract,” Ling chuckled at Ya Le’s response as she returned her gaze towards the girl. “Anyways, it shouldn’t be much further to the bar. It’s not the most pretentious thing you’ll see, but it gets the job done,” she nodded in satisfaction. Ling noticed Ya Le clutch her basket a little tighter and glanced to see a man, probably a guard, and walked a little further in front of Ya Le.

“Just stay in the middle and they won’t see you,” she whispered to Ya Le. As a brunette ran by, he bumped into Ya Le and shouted out an apology. "Hey watch where you going moron!" she shouted after the brunette. "Sheesh, people these days," she grumbled. “So, Kai,” she directed the question to the blonde. “What do you do? Are you a bender or no?” she asked. She was curious about everyone in the group, and since she was done prodding Ya Le with questions; it was Kai’s turn.

"So, Kai," The blonde went rigid at Ling's sudden change of attention before, just as quickly, recovering his calm posture. “What do you do? Are you a Bender or no?” Kai almost smirked at how off her questions were. Giving the woman a small, charming smile, he gently shook his head as he made eye-contact with her once more. "No, not a Bender, I'm just the Blacksmith's apprentice," He replied. The blonde quickly stepped in front of Ya, as another guard passed by too close for comfort.

The group quickly made their way from the Arena and into the familiar setting of the street Oyaji was placed in. "The Bai Long bakery's a couple streets down right?" Kai asked the female brunette noble who was still in the center of their human triangle. His eyes fell back on the red head before tearing his eyes away and focusing on where they were headed. What's wrong with me?

Ya Le

Ya Le suddenly kept a blank expression as a guard was spotted by them, making her a upset. Just when she was finally talking to someone like old friends would, said friend (and more) had to become her bodyguards. Sure she had employees to talk to but she mostly talked to them like a co-workers would. A chain of questons made its way in her head. Do I really need to have people guarding me at all times? Am I that weak? Has all my training gone to waist? If ran away, will I still need to depend on others? Does my face scream: "Hey! I'm a helpless little girl and you must help me and be my bodyguards!" or something? Why am I dragging others in my problems? I mean, I like that I have very helpful friends... or accquaintances? Ummm... Uggh! I'm so pathetic! All of this was starting to give her a migrane until Kai thankfully intrerrupted her train of thoughts.

The Bai Long bakery's a couple streets down right? Ya Le snapped back into reality and looked at their surroundings. Seeing a small antique shop down the road, she nodded. "Yeah. We just have to take a right after we pass that shop." She pointed to the old antique shop called, Ye Ye's.

Thinking about her own questions once more, Ya Le became mad at herself- her feelings unevident on her face. She'll have to repay these kind people afterwards.

Kai quietly led the group though the familiar streets; being accustomed to the environment. Rounding the corner he found himself along with the others state blankly in disbelief. There, in the street, were at least, 3 dozen guards within the perimeter of each shop. "Crap," He muttered and quickly scanned the area for a place to hide the noble, or something to hide her with. Seeing nowhere to hide her, Kai almost instinctually zipped down his black vest, revealing the wife beater underneath, and threw it over her head. The blonde shuddered from the cold, but suppressed his body's need for heat and, with a hand around Ya's wrist, made his way through the small army.

All going well, the guards barely even paying attention, too busy staring into the shops to make sure the girl they were supposed to be protecting wasn't in any of them, the group made their way to the bakery. "Now where, Li-" Kai was interrupted when a group of guards yelled after them. "Excuse me! Have you seen a..." The leading guard drifted off as he saw the pair of grey-ish orbs and the familiar dark brown hair of the girl underneath the vest. "Damn!" Kai quickly wrapped an arm around the girl's neck trying to conceal her once again. "Which way Ling?!" He practically demanded, running a random direction away from the chasing guards.

Kaito was still walking a bit farther back than the rest, he figured he would join the conversation when he was necessary, or when he started drinking... They WERE going to a bar... He watched them as they spoke for a bit, and started thinking about things, nothing in particular, he just let his mind wander. His thoughts were, however, interrupted by a veritable storm of guards. Whoever the hell this girl is, her family has got to be very, very loaded, and very, very protective, Kaito thought, moving through the guards a few meters behind the girl.

He was in the middle of them when they figured out who the girl was and started chasing her. Kaito was soon left in their dust as they ran off towards them, however it did not remain this way. Kaito lifted both of his hands in a quick motion, causing bits of the pavement underneath the guards to roll over their feet, locking them in place, all of them. Kaito walked through the crowd as the guards were beginning to yell and inquire as to what happened. Kaito casually walked through them saying, "Now, I may not care about some little canary that flew out of her cage... but for some reason, my friend does... so I would appreciate it if you guys stayed still while we bid you all farewell..." He never looked back, letting none of the guards see his face, but he still continued casually walking, hearing the blast of insults directed at him. Kaito simply smirked as he continued to casually walk in the direction of the rest of them.

Before Ling could even respond, Kaito - who remained in the back - pushed the pavement and apprehended the guards, effectively keeping them locked into place. Ling laughed at the predicament, under her breath of course, and proceeded towards Huang’s Bar.

“It’s not much further actually. Three more blocks and you’ll see it. It has ‘Huang’s’ in Neon green lights,” she stated as she glanced around, keeping an eye out for more guards. It took less than three minutes for the group to arrive at their destination and Ling smiled brightly. “Here we are! Make yourselves at home, but stay away from the back room. That is Huang’s sanctuary. He doesn’t even let me back there,” she stated as she reached behind a flower pot. If anyone had a good eye, they would have noticed it was a fake, and that deep inside was a compartment for the spare key.

“We still have a good two hours before the match, so we can just lay low here until then. I have some spare clothes, although I doubt they’ll fit, but you are welcome to them Ya Le,” Ling stated as she pointed towards a closet. “My brother keeps a change of clothes in that closet if you and Kaito want to…change,” she added and walked behind the bar.

“Now, who wants a drink?”

Kai would've raised his hand, if it wouldn't have made him look stupid, instead, he just called behind his shoulder while he made his way to the closet full of Ling's brother, Huang's-apparently, clothes, "Get me a shot of anything dark," Noticing the look on Ya's face, he just ran a hand through his wild hair, "I need to get something out of my head." He muttered as he opened the closet. The clothes looked rather small for Kai himself, but he would have to manage. Being out in the freezing cold with nothing but a simple wife-beater, vest, and pants, won't help his physical state. His mental state on the other hand, wasn't doing so hot either. He found his inner-self mentally slapping him whenever a certain little red head popped magically from nowhere. I need a drink. Now... but not before I change.

Peering into the closet once again, Kai reached in to grab a simple white-collared shirt from one of the hangers. Hey, a tie... Haven't worn one of these in ages. The blonde reached into the clothes compartment further to grab a red tie from the closet floor. He slipped the shirt onto himself, over the wife-beater, buttoning it up, and tightening the tie around his neck. Kai then made his way to the counter, where Ling was occupying the space where the bartender would be roosting. His head was throbbing, but the young man didn't move a muscle, for the reason of his migraine was a mere five feet away from him. The blonde couldn't help but glance warily at the red head.

"Thanks for the offer," Kaito said, waving dismissively, "But I like my clothes, they're very tantalizing and comfortable, and that is exactly how I like it!"

"But to your other offer, I say hell yeah!" Kaito said, practically jumping into one of the bar stools, "You are my new favorite person Ling! Give me the most expensive, strongest, best liquor you got, and a lot of it! Assuming this is on the house of course..." he winked at Ling before looking around at his surroundings. He saw Kai get into a suit, it looked tight and uncomfortable on him. Kaito chuckled and said, "What's wrong with your other outfit? So what if it's cold, it isn't even winter yet!"

“Yeah yeah, it’d be on the house. But you aren’t getting the best liquor. Huang would kill me if I gave that to you. I’ll give you the second best,” Ling replied as she grabbed the bottle hidden beneath the shelf. Huang was so easy to figure out it was pathetic. “And hey, don’t rat on a man because he knows how to wear a suit,” Ling replied, winking at Kai and slipping the drink into a cup before sliding towards Kaito. “It was only a suggestion you did not have to take it,” Ling finally added before grabbing another bottle plus two more.

“For you Kai, you get the house special. We like to call it Xin’s special. Why? Because Xin here,” Ling paused as she disappeared beneath the counter. “Xin here,” she started, coming back up with a fire ferret looking half dead in her arms, “discovered the drink by accident. It’s really popular for some odd reason,” she concluded while throwing the limp Fire Ferret over her shoulders. Xin yawned into his paw and eyed everyone lazily. He nipped at Ling’s hair before burrowing himself into it and jumped off onto the table. He sat himself in front of Kai and stared at the blonde, almost as if he was assessing him.

“Here you go,” Ling stated as she slipped the drink towards Kai. Xin stood firm in his staredown.

"And hey, don't rat on a man because he knows how to wear a suit," The wink afterwards caused a small scarlet line to appear through the blonde's cheeks. Then watching as the red head pulled out a bottle and slid it to Kaito before taking out three more. She then proceeded to disappear under the counter and appeared again with what seemed to be a sleeping Fire Ferret in her arms. The red-brown haired animal made it's way down Ling's hair and onto the counter; now participating in a stare off with Kai.

Staring into the Fire Ferret's large brown orbs, Kai couldn't help but crack a small smile. The blonde's always been fond of animals. Heck, just a few weeks ago he saved a tiny dark haired kitten. The poor thing was in the dumpster by the Blacksmith's shop. It was most likely frightened, considering how it tried to claw his face off when he picked him up, but after bringing him to the Shop and taking care of him, the little furball wouldn't stop following him around. Slowly, and gently, Kai outstretched his hand, watching as the Fire Ferret flinched away before sniffing at the hand. The blonde simply smiled at the animal's curiosity. The ferret then pounced up onto his arm, Kai rested his palm onto the table, keeping his arm straight, while Xin climbed onto him and rested itself on his shoulder.
