Setting
The name derives from the trees being so massive that in the depths it is like eternal night.
The damp, lingering stench of upturned moss entangled itself in Paul's respirator - Something wasn't right.
Focusing his gaze on the surrounding treeline, Paul raised his pistol as his eyes met with a figure to the rear of his tent.
While somewhat shrouded by the natural darkness of the forest, it was evident this figure was unaccustomed to this habitat - or perhaps they were simply unaware of the fact they SHOULD be hiding.
A series of loud cracks erupted from Paul's pistol as he took aim and fired upon this trespasser; each round finding their mark.
With three shots, the figure dropped. Carefully moving forwards, pistol still raised, Paul looked upon his prey with disgust.
This wasn't corp, or military. Nor was it civilian. Peering stoically at the wounded figure, this dawned on Paul.
This creature was unlike anything Paul had seen before - a lanky humanoid with a deep purple hue to its scaly flesh, sickeningly thin limbs and large, claw-like hands. It's face resembled that of a longbear, only with seven eyes on either side of its face, and an extended snout which was more akin to a trunk than anything else. The fangs were the most alarming feature, sending a chill down Paul's spine as he gazed upon them. They were slick, keen, and tinged with a deep crimson.
This... thing... had been feeding.
It was fortunate that Paul spotted this one before it had spotted him. If its characteristics were anything to go by, this creature was forged with one purpose - to kill. Crouching beside it, Paul examined the heavy ballistic wounds he had inflicted as he sighed.
Leveling the pistol at the creature's head, Paul took one final shot as he planned his next move. This had changed everything.
Perhaps it was time to retreat to the Elisonian Outskirts.
