Edward Racket

Fox Demon/Wall Street Villain/Alien/All-Purpose Minion: "Blame the voices in my head, not me."

0 · 717 views · located in Purgatory.

a character in “Purgatory Remix”, as played by LovelyLisey

Description

Age: Kinda depends. Kit is five hundred and fourteen, Edward is sixty five, and Destroyer of Worlds is five million and two.

Backstage Pass: Seriously, just read the history.

Edward lives in the body of Kit, a petite fox demon. Kit is the younger brother of The Fox, so he is appropriately good-looking, although the descriptor "cute" suits him much better than "handsome." He has golden eyes and blonde hair that is a little long for a guy but would still be considered short for a girl. Edward has a thing for zoot suits and occasionally business casual, but this is subject to change if either Kit or Destroyer of Worlds take the reins. Kit likes to wear pretty kimonos, while Destroyer of Worlds likes to wear...nothing. This can be very awkward for Edward, but not for Kit, who is somewhat of an exhibitionist.

Personality

This can get complicated.

Edward Racket, the human soul, has control roughly 70% of the time. Edward is ambitious and greedy, but not actually entirely evil. He would probably be a pretty nice guy if he weren't just so darned greedy. He is constantly miserable, and he prefers to vent his existential angst through heavy doses of sarcasm.

Kit is quiet and sweet, but actually entirely evil. Kit is willing to stoop to even lower lows than Edward, although people would never guess from his cheerful and sunny demeanor. Principally, he knows how to nurse a grudge, and if you piss him off, he will stop at nothing until he ruins you. Kit can be quite smart, but his maliciousness sometimes leads him to do stupid things.

Destroyer of Worlds is probably evil, although Destroyer of Worlds does not think so. Destroyer of Worlds just likes to destroy stuff. That's why it was born. That's what it does. No hard feelings.

History

In exchange for monetary success on Wall Street, Edward Racket sold his soul to the devil. Meaning, The Fox. He just didn't expect The Fox to collect so early. To be fair, neither did The Fox.

Kit, the younger brother of The Fox, wanted his brother's status and power. The only obvious solution was to kill his brother, but killing The Fox turned out be quite tricky. Shockingly, his older brother did not take kindly to his brother's murder attempt, and in order to punish his brother, The Fox forced him to share his body with a cranky guy from Wall Street.

That was twenty years ago. Barely a day for Kit, but an eternity for Edward Racket, who was killed by The Fox at the young age of forty-five. Since arriving in Purgatory, he has been doing odd jobs for The Fox, who has now promised him an immortal body without a voice constantly yelling in his head. Edward is somewhat under the gun to please The Fox, because The Fox has made it clear that if he is unsatisfied, he can easily force his soul (and Kit's) out of Purgatory. Edward doesn't know where souls go after Purgatory, but he doesn't really want to find out.

Meanwhile, Destroyer of Worlds was going around destroying worlds 'n stuff. Then he accidentally went through a wormhole and crash-landed in Purgatory, whereupon his only course of action was to destroy Purgatory. This did not work out either, and after a fearsome battle against the temporarily allied Five Powers of Purgatory, Destroyer of Worlds lost and died. His soul even went on to the thing after Purgatory and everything. That was, like, two hundred years ago, before Edward's great-grandmother was even a twinkle in someone's eye.

Then, about ten years ago, Edward/Kit were investigating some alien technology left behind by The Men in Black. They pushed a red button, and all of a sudden, Destroyer of World's personality was imprinted upon their shared soul. This effectively created a third "soul" to share the already crowded body of Kit the fox.

Who led them to the alien technology? Probably The Fox.

He thought it would be funny.

Edward is usually the person in control of the body, but Kit will take over if Edward is in extreme distress. Bear in mind that distress for Edward is relative, and frequent. It's even rarer for the Destroyer of World personality to dominate, but it can sometimes happen in extreme distress.

In terms of abilities, Edward has the sharpened reflexes and mobility of Kit's body, although he is still not very good at controlling it. He fights with a gun. Kit is an all-around better fighter, and he fights with his claws, which he can elongate. Just don't compare him to Wolverine. He hates that. Destroyer of Worlds is completely useless as a fighting tactic, as Destroyer of Worlds originally had a body the size of the moon and he does not know how to fight in the tiny body of a fox demon. This is unfortunate, because Destroyer of Worlds only comes out when both Edward and Kit are sure that they are going to die. However, Destroyer of Worlds has been successful at confusing opponents so much that they just give up.

So begins...

Calliope had already started to move towards the door, having accepted it as a given that Olivia was coming along. She knew from her experience with Olivia in her conjured bedroom that Atlantis was, indeed, beautiful. "Olivia is staying with me until it all gets sorted out. Stingrays? How pretty. I've always thought they were cute." Things Calliope found cute: spiders, sharks, snakes and Beanie Babies. Especially Beanie Babies of the aforementioned.

Edward was in good spirits. He had managed to send that foolish troublemaker Flo away - the Bureau was always good for a manipulation or two. Now, he could get down to the business of running Fox's every errand. He walked through the streets, a bounce in his step. Then he began to notice a few people shuffling down the street, looking very strange. Edward didn't have much survival instincts, but he did have the sense to duck into a side alley, poking his head out to take a look at the shuffling people every once in a while. He looked back at a guy smoking his pipe in the alley. "I think there's some strange people down there," he said.

True, the black rain had stopped for now, so it was a gorgeous day. Edward had been stuck inside crunching numbers for Fox's, ahem, business, so he hadn't been outside for a while. And something felt...off, about Purgatory. "I'm not nervous," retorted Edward. "I just think those people are behaving strangely. Almost like...like..." Since he was technically a human, Edward had seen a lot of zombie movies in the past. "Well, I would never hide behind a dumpster," he finished lamely, tugging at the cuff links of his expensive suit.

This man spoke strangely. Edward probably should have been used to people speaking strangely by now, but he still glared at the man. "Down there," said Edward, pointing at the shuffling zombies that were now more like a mob. "Don't they look a little...odd, to you?"

"No street theatre I want to see." Edward withdrew further into the alley. "How about you go and take a look? You can tell me if it's safe or not."

[Zombies] A couple of zombies lurched up to Alekz. One of them attempted to take a bite out of his neck. [Edward] It was at that moment that Edward began to run away.

Edward attempted to run away, but he was stopped by more zombies on the other end of the alley. They were trapped like rats. Edward returned to Alekz's side, his face full of panic. "Do something!" he screeched, firing his gun at a few zombies. He hit an arm, a leg, a torso, but the only zombie that actually stopped moving was the one that took a bullet at point-blank in the head. "Aim for their heads!"

"I'm glad you're taking the time to teach them manners," said Edward dryly, taking out a few more with head shots. "That's obviously our priority here." Now that he had figured out how to take them out, he found that they actually weren't too difficult. The problem was just that there were so many of them. "Haven't you ever heard of zombies?" He yelled back to Alekz. "They're walking corpses, which is...everyone in the Purgatory. Except that these ones want to eat our brains." He batted away a zombie who had grabbed his arm, finishing it off with a bullet. "We need to get to higher ground." This man had turned out to be useful, so until the zombie atack was over, Edward would prefer to keep him around. Don't you want me to come out and help? asked Kit, in the back of his mind. No, answered Edward. I got this. For now. Stay put. Edward knew Kit - if he got out, he would probably run around having fun decapitating all the zombies. So Edward was actually safer if he maintained control of the body.

Alekz didn't have to tell Edward twice. He was all about that fire escape. Edward hopped up the ladder escape to the roof, where he could enjoy an open space free of zombies. Well, he could. If there wasn't already a zombie up there. And, of course, this was the exact moment he had run out of bullets. Edward did the only thing he could reasonably do - he screamed and pissed his pants. ((Oh, Eddie.))

"Um, yeah," squeaked Edward meekly. "Entertaining. Exactly the word I was looking for." He walked to the edge of the roof. There weren't too many ordinary people around, which meant that Edward only saw zombies for as far as the eye could see. There was a little girl in a nearby park, but she seemed to be doing pretty well for herself. He glanced back at Alekz, trying to compose his expression into something more serious. "Okay, if this is anything like a movie, we need to find some kind of a cure...which means that we need to find out how this started..."

"My name is Edward Racket," said Edward Racket. "I would be pleased to meet you, except that five minutes ago a zombie tried to neck me. So, yeah. Forgive me on that count, but I'm not feeling the pleasantries right now."

Edward glared first at Alekz and then at Jig. The girl seemed to be doing fine on her own, so why did they have to take her in exactly? "I understand that you want to help, but the more people there are, the more zombies will come after us." And Edward wanted the hulk of a bodyguard that was Alekz all for himself. He looked down his nose at Jig.

Edward could see he wasn't going to win any arguments, and at this point he was just terrified that they would throw him out of the group and leave him to fend for himself. Which probably meant Kit rampaging and getting them both killed. "Safety..." Fox's Den was always safe from things that weren't Fox. "I think I know a safe place, if you guys don't mind following me."

"Okay," said Edward. Edward then did something that Edward would usually never ever do, which was jump from one roof to another. To be fair, there wasn't that much distance between the roofs. Also, zombies. "I need you guys to cover me, because I don't have any bullets left," said Edward, waving his useless gun around to demonstrate. "Just follow me." He just prayed that Fox hadn't moved the Den, again. But he had just been there earlier today, so hopefully it would still be in the same place...

Edward hopped from building to building, relieved to find that there weren't many zombies up here. There were a few, but the zombies were so damn slow that they didn't offer much of a threat, and Edward assumed that Alekz and Jig were taking care of them behind him. He eventually stopped on one rooftop, taking the escape down to the ground level to another abandoned alley. There, he looked up and down the alley until he was sufficiently convinced that there were no zombies. He approached a door with a slit, and knocked. A pair of eyes looked through the slit. "Password?" they asked. "It's me," answered Edward. "Password?" said the pair of eyes again. "Fine," said Edward, leaning forward and whispering something. The door opened to what looked like a distressingly normal apartment. The person belonging to the pair of eyes was nowhere to be seen. "Take off your shoes before you enter," said Edward to his two followers.

"With any luck, Fox isn't around," said Edward, taking off his shoes as well. "He doesn't like visitors, so if he finds you here he might try to kill you. Just a head's up." Edward went into the living room and turned on the television. Maybe the Purgatory News Bureau (PNB: "Always there for your demon revolts and witch attacks!") would have something on about the zombie attack. He gave a sidelong glance to his two guests. "There's soda and juice in the fridge, if you're thirsty."

"Sure," said Edward, getting up to get the kettle. Immediately Kit began to lecture him about exactly what tea bags to use and how long to steam it and how to pour. Kit was deadly serious about his tea. "SHUT UP!!" yelled Edward, poking his head back into the living room to say, "Not you." A couple minutes later, he returned from the kitchen with a tea cup in a saucer. The tea cup had little duckies on it. Fox's favorite. "Anything on the news about the zombie attack?" asked Edward, nodding towards the television.

"The Bureau is such a joke," scoffed Edward, taking a seat on the couch. "If we leave it up to them, we'll all be dead by morning. I don't suppose you've heard anything down the grapevine about why there might be a zombie attack all of a sudden?"
