Introduction
Back in the beginning of days when the world was newborn, much like now the sky faced the earth. The sky goddess, Nuit, arched her back above the ground, eating the sun at dusk and giving birth to it every day at dawn and suckling the stars at night. Across the void, she gazed down at Geb, the reclining earth god whose head grew reeds and whose raised knee was the mountains in the west.
Over time, they fell in love.
But theirs was a cruel fate for they were ever separated by Shu, the god of the air. It was Nuit’s destiny to protect the world from the chaos of the cosmos beyond her arched back and it was Geb’s to lie still and provide a foundation for civilisation to blossom upon. Shu and the other gods knew what would happen if they met and chaos was allowed to intrude upon the fragile world… They could not let it be extinguished like a flame in a rising wind.
And so Geb and Nuit went on, able to look upon their love but never reach out and touch each other. Nuit would weep, her tears swelling rivers and her sobs rolling through the clouds as thunder. Geb would shake and slam the ground, wounds in his skin opening up as fault-lines, bringing buildings tumbling down.
This is how they remain to this day and how they will always be.
But, it is sometimes whispered they were not always apart. Some tell of a day when, however briefly, the sky fell to the earth and chaos reigned…
The present, the 9th Kingdom of Kemet.
The pharaoh, Mentuhotep V, is a greedy, self-inflated sociopath. Many of his poorest subjects live in oppression and fear whilst the wealth of the upper classes is swelled by taxation and bribery. Many of the lower classes are employed as farmers or craftsmen, farming the fertile banks or shaping river clay into utensils or constructing moments and buildings when the farmers are seasonally flooded. There are many gods in the Kemet pantheon and, as such, there are numerous temples dotting the cities, each dedicated to a different deity. Full-time priests and priestess communicate with the gods and give offerings from ordinary people seeking advice or good luck. These people, who are in touch with the supernatural order that permeates the world, are able to perform Heka, a form of magic heavily dependent on words either spoken or written down. Healers also use heka to practise basic medicine and cure afflictions common in the slums.
An elite contingent of the military called the Akmentu act as a secret police, dealing with those who criticise the regime and doing the pharaoh's bidding. Meanwhile a war rages on the northern-most border against an invading Kobian army. Kobe is the war-like neighbours of Kemet and its inhabitants are caricatured as black-skinned savages by popular thought whilst in reality, little is known about them. For all his faults, the pharaoh has so far kept the Kobians at bay and only a few mild skirmishes have occurred within a hundred miles of the capital. For now, the people are safe from invasion.
Our story begins in the capital city of Inefer, famous for its white walls, along the bank of the Nile.
So! I realise the plot is reasonably vague. I do have a few things mind, particularly concerning the myth above but I'd rather come up with something together. Feel free to send any ideas my way. I'd really like this RP to be literate, creative and collaborative so don't be afraid to take the initiative with the plot or brainstorm with other RPers.
Potential characters include, but are not limited to:
-An ordinary peasant living in the city
-A priest/priestess of a temple in Inefer
-A member of the Akmentu
-A Kemet soldier or a captured Hittite soldier
-An advisor to the pharoah
-A healer
-A consort of the pharoah

Re: [OOC] The Day the Sky Fell to the Earth
2) This is a fantasy world so none of the characters are Egyptian or Babylonian. Feel free to create a Babylonian-inspired character, so long as you give them an original nationality.
3) Don't worry about having English as a second language. Just try your best. Characterisation is more important than purple prose.
Keep 'em coming people!
Re: [OOC] The Day the Sky Fell to the Earth
This seems to be an incredibly awsome RP and I would like to join. But before creating a character I wanted to ask some questions:
1) Which level of action/adventure can we expect here? I know its something ranging from chicken chasing to epic Ragnarök-like battles, but I wanted something a little more specific.
2) The character I want to create is not Egyptian, but Babylonian. Is that ok?
3) Is my literacy level acceptable? I dont have english as my native language, so I might find harder to keep it high. (Please check some of my character sheets or posts)

Oh and I'm also willing to make more characters if you want me to.
