"I'm not from your hometwon." Lark said sharply as he took the staff "and I'm not this Luk-" He stopped suddenly, shooting a dark glare at the staff in his hand. It had done something. Something that sincerely pissed Lark off. He held his tongue however, keeping some composure as he practically stabbed the puddle with the staff, assuming that would send it to where Sanyu was. Lark turned to face Dragon once more.

"Have to do?" Lark almost hissed. There was a certain....familiarity to the way things were going. It gave him a bad feeling.

Lark did not like it.

"I'm not making any promises, it's not like I made it my life's mission to speak to a reflectio-"

Why was his arm wet?

I hate everybody.

Lark turned his head slowly to see his arm already halfway through the enlarging puddle. It wasn't just sinking with the staff either, he was being dragged

"Your call...hero." Dragon hissed through gritted teeth. She shifted a second time, grabbing Lark's arm. "You don't wanna go down there - not yet, anyways." "And by the way, I hate everybody as well...everybody except you." With a flick of her wrist Dragon pulled Lark from the puddle, nearly flipping him over. There was something about her tone almost as if she was both mocking him and telling him off.

Lark was in a daze. He clutched at his arm and skidded across the ground, feet scraping the dirt as he backed away from the puddle. He kept backpedaling until his back struck the trunk of a tree.

His legs kept moving for several moments as Lark stared out at the puddle from a distance. His face was like an old soldier's, reliving the events of a horrible battle. He opened and closed his hand, and with each flex of his wrist, blades hidden in the housing on his forearms extended and withdrew.

He muttered quietly completely oblivious to the words Dragon had said. She may have saved him from the portal, but Lark was no longer there with her.

What have I done? Dragon asked herself worridly, shifting into a full wolf and rubbing against Lark's leg to get his attention. She cocked her head to the right and perked up her silver-tipped ears, she gently bit his leg without digging in her fangs. That should work...just in case she bit a little harder, leaving a small mark.

The pain did little to help Lark, instead it probably made things worse. Lark began to shiver.

"Cold." He breathed before looking up to the sky.

It was snowing. Freezing. Lark was dripping wet, soaked from the river. His arms were buried as they dragged him out of the river, his leg was broken from the fall. He looked up.

Blue was roaring in pain, flying away with it's wounds. The airship was falling from the sky, black smoke billowing from it's underside. He raised a hand to reach out for it.

"Taylor." He breathed.

Lark gasped, and was once again back in the woods with a wolf munching on his leg. He shook his head, grabbing at the side of his temple with his hands. He breathed shuddered breaths, but he grew still. Finally Lark sighed, letting his hands fall to his sides and leaning his head back to rest against the trunk of the tree.

"Stop biting me."

"Whatever, hero," Dragon hissed. She shifted, letting the urge to hit him take over. She did only once, striking him with the back of her hand. After this action she stepped away from Lark, vanishing and then pinning him to the ground in a blur of silver and black. "Don't tell me what to do, Lark." Without thinking she pulled a knife from her satchel and flipped the blade open, presenting the edge to Lark.

Lark eyed Dragon and her blade cautiously. That had certainly taken a random turn that he was not expecting...

He raised a brow high as he watched her, his trauma had left him weak, and Lark found he did not have the energy to resist...whatever it was she was doing. Still, Lark wasn't the type to give up so easily.

"Don't we have more important things to be worrying about?" He sighed flatly.

Dragon flicked the blade across Lark's neck, watching the blood drip from the wound. Muttering something about how "Lark was the same as Luka" she stood up, shifting a third time to some sort of black-winged human with white wolf ears. Vanishing out of sight she brushed a wing against his shoulder. She had a darker side that made her want to mess with him but she struggled to keep it at bay. Before she could do anything about it though...she bit his neck.

Screw my dark side, Dragon thought worriedly. "We have more important things to be worrying about Hero but I just like messing with you," she said suddenly attempting to cover up what she had just done.

"Ah...um...it's...getting...dark..." DAMMIT

Lark sucked a sharp breath in as she not only cut his neck, but bit onto it as well. The rapid turn in events was perplexing, and he found himself hoping that this girl was just some kind of sadist on steroids, as bad as that was, it beat the hell out of murdering sociopath.

Again she seemed to have shifted gears, leaving lark in a daze, in pain, and bleeding. And as much as Lark wanted to speak up, there was just one thing bothering him.

Why are my legs wet?

Lark looked down from Dragon to notice the horrifying truth.

The puddle had swelled. The small pool of rain water was quickly becoming a small lake, expanding at a rate Lark couldn't avoid. He could barely open his mouth before the edge shot out from under his knees to the base of the tree that Lark leaned against. There was no saving him this time, as it was not even a moment before his body was submerged under the water's surface. He sank at an alarming rate, thrashing about, struggling to reach the surface that continued to get farther and farther away.

Dragon was torn. Leave Lark or pull him out? No...dive in with him. The idea ripped into her train of thought. If I did I die with Lark. She took a deep breathing backing away from the puddle only to break out in a daring leap, diving straight into the puddle. Thoughts raced through her head as she fell, feeling more like Alice in the rabbit hole.

I hate this, it's ruining my clothes.
Why did I have to bite Lark???
Screw you, dark side.

The other side of the puddle was both stunningly similar and vastly different from the glen they had just left. Instead of the beautiful, lush valley that they had seen just moments prior, they would be deposited into a colorless, barren world on the other side. The trees and bushes had lost all their leaves and flowers. There was no grass. The soil was black. The sky was black. The trees and bushes were varying shades of grey cloaked in jagged shadows.

There was a trail of black liquid from the puddle leading further into the bush.

Lark coughed up the grey water as he dragged himself onto the ground. On his hands and knees the man gasped for air, coughing violently. When he could finally breathe, it was heavy. When he could think, he feared. When he looked, he froze.

"No." He breathed, eyes wide in disbelief. He squeezed them shut, shaking his head. He didn't want to believe it. He just couldn't.

Dragon managed to pull herself off of the ground. As weak as the fall had made her she needed to make sure that Lark had made it. Glancing around she noticed both a trail of black liquid leading into a nearby bush and Lark, who looked like he had almost died.

”You okay?” She asked him. ”incredible, isn't it?” Dragon suddenly halted, remembering the wounds she had inflicted just a minute ago. “Lark...” She said slowly, lowering her head she that her hair fell over her eyes. ”...I'm really sorry about hurting you. I didn't mean to...” I am such an idiot.

Dragon's apology fell on practically deaf ears as Lark's fingers dug into the colorless dirt beneath them.

"Why?" Lark breathed, his shoulders rose and fell with every shuddering breath. "Why does this keep happening?"

Dragon turned away without uttering a reply. She sunk down to the ground, her back to a nearby wilted oak tree and before she could help it she began to cry, the tears rushed down her face splashing into the dirt.

"Why am I such an idiot?"

For several moments, Lark stared at the grey dirt silently. Once again he was torn from the world he called home for reasons he didn't understand. He was tired of fighting other people's wars, tired of having his life torn apart. He wanted to go home, he just wanted to go home.

Finally he heaved a heavy sigh, slowly getting to his feet.

Only one way out of here I guess... Lark thought to himself, looking around and noticing Sanyu's staff nearby. Looking around some more, he noticed that there were hints of a trail of darker colored dirt leading away from them and into the woods. He admitted that this colorless world was disorienting, but he had a feeling he'd be able to manage,

"Nice try...Lark. You know this place?" Dragon had finished crying, something inside of her snapped to the point of no return. "You're not leaving without me!" She stood in front of Lark, dangling a silver chain in front of his face. "You're gonna need this, Hero." She mocked his sigh, letting out a small laugh. "There is only one way out of here. But you're not even close to finding out..." She shifted into a wolf a second time, rubbing against Lark's legs. "While you're at it, you picked up my collar and...I...want it back."

Confusing

Lark wondered to himself as he searched his pockets for the collar he supposedly had taken. Sure enough, it was in his possession for some reason. He pulled it out, looked at it, and lowered it with a shrug for the shape shifter to take.

He then walked over to where Sanyu's staff lied, picking it up with a huff. Again he felt it search through his being, attaching to something he would've preferred to keep hidden away. He didn't like it, but he would have to endure it.

"Let's see if we can't track down Sanyu." Lark decided, suddenly glaring at the wolf.

"And stop calling me that."

Dragon picked up the collar with her teeth. Shifting back to a somewhat human-like form she looked at him, tilting her head. "Okay...Lark." She was acting totally obedient for some unfathomable reason....Master, she muttered, lowering her head. What had he done to her?

"Sanyu...she's not hurt - yet...we don't have much time, though. Whatever has her plans to kill her...soon."
