He is a dancer and onnagata who works for a large wealthy family.
He has been dancing since he was 3 and his mother ‘sold’ him to the Dunbar family when he was 4. He was trained in dancing, music, and manners to be a perfect little entertainer/servant for the family. One thing he can not do is sing and this is why Elizabeth Dunbar named him Farinelli- to remind him of what he can not do.
Most of his young life was spent isolated from the outside world. Books and some films were his only contact. He became fascinated by classic fairy tales and romance and often thought of where he lived as a tower he would one day be rescued from.
When he was 13 he met Wolfgang Dunbar on a picnic trip. They began spending time together. Wolfgang knew more about the outside world and was a member of the family he was trained to think so well of. He looked up to him and was thrilled he payed him attention. The relationship grew very close and, seemingly, romantic. But Wolfgang was in it for the wrong reasons and Farinelly was very hurt by the way he ended it. He became very depressed for a period of time. Because of this incident he is very possessive and afraid of loosing people he is in a relationship with.
One of his teachers was a geisha and taught him much of what she knows. Self-esteem is something he lacks and he needs constant reassurance to feel like he is worth something. He only has confidence in his dancing and other performance arts and believes he is useless without them.
He likes to think of himself as a geisha or living work of art.
