The Multiverse

Setting

ImageRebuilt from the ashes of a war nearly a millennium past, this predominantly human-populated city has long since returned to a state of growth and prosperity. Located near the northern reaches of Caldonia, Lorandor is situated along the Koramir river. The city is best known for its renowned horse trade which has strongly ingrained itself into the lifestyle of the local people. Lorandor serves as a major trading hub for the surrounding towns, and use of the river for such purposes is common.

Despite its desert climate, Lorandor is well provided with fresh water from the Koramir river, and they manage productive farmlands.

As a prosperous trading hub, Lorandor is well accustomed to seeing travelers from all up and down the Koramir river, as well as merchants and traders from the Midlands and Shintenchi, and even occasional tribesmen from the Barrens. One should take note though, that typically travel to Lorandor is done from boats transporting goods from the coast via the river so as to avoid crossing the Dying Sands north of the Koramir river.

Lorandor is well known for its rich cultural heritage, and ethnically distinct manners of clothing, architecture, food, religion, languages, and countless other points that distinguish them apart from the rest of Aslund. Their absorption into the TNG has done little to dilute their distinct culture, and in fact has made the region all the more resistant to change for fear of losing their cultural identity.

This is especially seen within their rigid and unyielding stance on gender inequality, and though such things are not legally supported by the TNG, the ingrained cultural reinforcement has proven difficult to eradicate. In a male dominated culture, the women of Caldonia are often without voice or freedom. Laws are in place that prohibit the physical abuse of women, but they are often resigned to receiving poorer education than the males, and are typically relegated to house-bound roles in which it is the males that dominate the course of their lives in regards to matters of marriage and even travel. Despite the seeming oppressive nature of the practices, it is often defended strongly by men and women alike for its role in protecting the women of Lorandor.

This division of the sexes is less oppressive among the tribal people of Caldonia, but still distinct in the expectation of gender roles.

(RP Notes: For those RPing within Lorandor and the surrounding regions of Caldonia, please be mindful that Lorandor's local culture is loosely influenced by a mingling of Saudi Arabia, and heavy fantasy. Lorandor is not a particularly advanced city by Terran standards, but touches of technology and modern comforts can be found within it, including guns, motor vehicles, unreliable electricity, and running water. These things have yet to fully replace more archaic means of survival - especially out in the desert beyond the safety of the city walls. Access to Lorandor is typically relegated to the river, and air - though the lack of air ports or space ports leaves helicopters the primary mode of air travel when available.)

As Jinhai expanded across Terra the places where they'd already been acquired the most effort at first. Imperial guard rapidly heard of their professed loyalty as much as their presence in 'reassembling' compatriots that many afforded them personal space. Lorandor expressed distaste to the manipulation of the dead but the imperial guard far preferred loyal resources than the backward locals. As whatever buildings they touched saw a wandering reconstruction the municipality set them to a disused munitions depot nearby to a town. Lorandor had few resources compared to Wing City and the Jinhai asked for nothing in return. The religious leadership wouldn't give anything precious as a well-structured depot to the strange creatures but to be allowed a working space by Mankind was all they required. As a nearby sandstone plateau slowly disappeared it was clear they were making vast alterations underground.

The Jinhai needed a locus ring within which to construct a Zhou to carry resources from place to place. Locals complained of rhythmic noises for several weeks as construction of a housing for the psi-seed of a creature began. Underground the hallways sprawled like white-clad veins psistone layers installed to keep out unwanted interference. Careful hands etched thin scratches in patterns that shifted if human eyes viewed them. It hurt the deeper one pushed into the bunker as some guard had bothered to do. Jinhai didn't concern itself with security overall and the guard could feel the eyes of Wen looking out from careful needlelike eyes in the hatch marks that glint from every surface. Even orientation became difficult the more they worked the stone to channel the nearby power of mankind. The lines took a hologram effect on the eyes and the meaning doubly so an afterimage in the unprepared. Though guards took it upon themselves to patrol the growing fortress they sometimes needed to be unceremoniously dumped outside the carefully balanced white doors. The two multi-ton bulkhead now had a layer of psistone above the telltale dusky grey of iron pushed into plasteel. Just the jolt in one's boots in one's feet as bulkheads shuff closed behind them in near silence.

Then came the day when curious onlookers heard a deep voice conversing with Jinhai form somewhere inside. Citizens coexisted with Jinhai that barely acknowledged them. Still they knew better than to wander into hallways of perfect dark where light betrayed the mind from the reflections in bright scratches. The powerful voice spoke in a language they didn't recognize as it gained the sound of health every day. The way it spoke carried song with it fluted and breezy like wind whistling through broken rocks.

The next desert night a sound of harsh stone sent whistling concordance rushing away upward to rumble to itself from the sky. There was an acclimation period for Zhou to ensure the new body acclimated to a psi-seed pushed across the way from Myrkul. Released to its own recognizance the sharp violet cloud lanced across the landscape just to feel itself move. Unlike the Jinhai Zhou's mind was its own. He felt exalted to be born once more into the air of Mankind. The long sleep inside the Altar of Myrkul was soft, slow, and uninteresting. Now everything was new again.

The loss of the psiforge was a setback for Myrkul's Vein though the emergence of the black storm through the resulting fracture in reality lessened its impact. Their careful self destructive machinery erupted a vent into the Black Storm to prevent spreading corruption. Still, once the storm ceased its expansion and stabilized the hooded Jinhai returned to this city but more directly to its limits. Tall eight-many Jinhai wearing Wen poured into the city limits but as a force bearing weapons did not enter human habitation. They roamed just outside the city limits covering the countryside in elevated servitors as Genesis worked to manufacture more.

Though docile to humankind their directive was to stop everything else from leaving the area of the psi forge. This they did, with violent impunity, in silent inspection of everything leaving and entering the quarantine area. A violent storm of black murk and lightning rising far above the horizon. Quakes growl and rumble endlessly as voidfluid churns through bedrock though the creatures lurked for miles around it and the city nearby. Silent protectors of Humankind.

This in specific caused different concerns for those not of humankind. The first nonhuman that tried to enter their space which quiet eyes saw harmed a nonhuman was shot at from all corners. Energetic weapons of varied substance and violence erupted from the landscape and distant locales turning them and their helicopter into consumed dust. Not engaged to enter conversation they ignored appeals from guards whom then spoke with weapons making bid to repel the force. As the first demon attacks visited upon the landscape the attacks from humankind had stopped but those nonhumankind that abide in the city were now its prisoners. Until the overbeing Myrkul's Vein or the Living Emperor should order otherwise.
