D E C O R U S

h e i g h t x // x5' 10"

w e i g h t x // x160 lbs

h a i r x // xVlad's hair is thicker and more corse than his brothers. Often in an unruly mess on top of his head. Because of this, Vlad prefers to keep it rather short.

e y e s x // xHis eyes are a warm chocolate brown, not quite as dark and heavy as Hawke's but both show their burden and strife from life in the facility.

o d d i t i e s x // xSometimes Vlad has a habit of stumbling over his tongue. He knows how to talk quite well, but years of being gagged, he did become a bit rusty. He's also gotten himself a decent amount of scars from the guards, when his brother wasn't enough to keep him out of trouble. Some of the most noticeable being one on his bottom lip, a slice through his left eyebrow, and numerous ones cover his arms and hands.

a p p e a r a n c e x // xVlad is without a down the scruffier out of him and his brother. Although neither one of them are keen on shaving, Vlad has definitely let his facial hair become more predominant. A smile is a rare sight on Vlad unless it’s condescending or sadistic. His predominant brow is always furrowed and jaw clenched, like he’s in a constant state of anger. Unlike Hawke, Vlad has tried to give himself a more muscular physique. It’s not like the facility offers gym equipment. They’d much rather their subjects remain frail because they’re easier to control that way. But Vlad busies himself with either his guitar or working out in his cell. Be it push ups, pull ups or anything else he can accomplish with what he is provided in his cell. He is definitely the most physically fit out of the group.

m i n d x c o m p u l s i o n x // x Vlad is able to protect his own desires and wishes onto another person. He can make them do, think and act the way he wants by simple vocal command or intense focus of eye contact. To an extent it as seen as a form of mind control, projecting whatever he wants on the other person. It takes a couple hours for whatever compulsion he puts on another to wear off if he does not reinforce it.

t h o u g h t x i n c e p t i o n x // x When Vlad wants a thought, idea or emotion to really stick in someone's mind, he can bury the idea deep in their subconscious. This takes tremendous focus and usually involves some for of hypnosis to instill the idea in someone's mind. But once those ideas are imbedded that cannot fade away unless Vlad removes them himself.

s e n s o r y x d e p r i v a t i o n x // x With enough focus, close proximity or physical contact, Vlad can deprive someone of their senses. He can make their vision go black, white noise in their ears, no sense of touch, pain or taste. Using this along with Hawke's ability to mentally block someone can make people go insane.

p h y s i c a l x s t r e n g t h x // x Compared to the others in the group, Vlad is the most physically fit... Or, as much as you can be in the facility. He spends a lot of his time trying to remain in good shape with a fair amount of muscular tone. He is able to handle himself, and usually needs a handful of guards to restrain him.

m a n i p u l a t i v e x // x Even without his compulsion, Vlad is good at manipulating people on different levels. Reverse psychology, or by whatever other means. He is exceptional at getting people to think or do what he wants with or without his abilities.

g u i t a r x // x Since he is in some sort of gag most of the time since his powers developed, Vlad needed some sort of way to emote his feelings, or break the silence. It's difficult for himself not being able to vocalize without his brother's help. So, he uses music to help express what he can't.

l o s i n g x h a w k e x // x Vlad would do anything to avoid this from happening. Compel anyone, kill, remain a slave to the facility for the rest of his life... Doesn't matter. Hawke's life is more important than Vlad's, hands down.

l o s i n g x h i m s e l f x // x Through the experiments and a life growing up in the facility, Vlad constantly fears that one more experiment would cause him to lose him himself. He'd rather die than be an empty shell of himself.

r e s t r a i n t s x // x Vlad doesn't need restraints as much as some of the others, but the times he's been in them have traumatized him. Whenever he is put in them, he begins to go into a panic attack.

P E R S O N A L I T A T E
xxxxxxxxxxxxx angry xx impulsive xx blunt xx rebellious x

Anyone who’s talked to Vlad even remotely, knows that his perpetually angry. Not that he can be blamed, growing up in a place like that. Everyone has their own outlet, and his is anger. A smile is foreign upon his face unless it has a darker meaning. He usually has a rough disposition about him, coming off calloused, cold and brash. Because of his anger he tends to lash out on others, projecting his own temper on the rest of the group. If he were out of the facility, Vlad hopes that some of his anger and resentment would melt away. But while in that building, he is in a constant state of anger, stubbornness and aggression, often taking it out physically with the guards whenever he has the chance and it doesn’t reflective negatively on his brother.

Coming hand in hand with his temper, Vlad tends to be on the impulsive side of things. He’s not one to really think things through like his brother. He doesn’t contemplate the outcome or reciprocations for his actions. When he sees an opportunity, he takes it. When someone makes him upset, he lashes out. When there’s a gap in the guards, he starts a fight. The consequences don’t hit him until they happen, often causing regret. But, he’d never admit that. He impulsiveness isn’t just with actions but words and how he treats others.

Vlad doesn’t have a mental filter for what he says. His thoughts flow forth through him without a thought about how it’d make others feel. Of course, this isn’t quite the issue when Hawke is filtering his words for him. But when he has the availability to speak for himself, they can become quite surprised at his harsh honesty. That combined with his impulsiveness, tends to lead to his foot having a permanent home in his mouth. It is rare that he apologizes for his actions, but on a rare occasion he will apologize for harsh things he’s said. Even if what he said was the truth, just a harsh version of it.

It comes as no surprise that with Vlad’s impulsive and angry nature, that he is rebellious. Rules and Vlad do not mix well. He’s never been one to follow them, especially where the facility is concerned. He has more electrocution scars than he’d care to count from the times he’s disobeyed the guards or lashed out at them. Although his rebellious nature tends to negatively affect Hawke as much of himself, sometimes this isn’t enough to deter him. Aside from his extremely dangerous ability, this is one of the reason Vlad got himself and his brother put into max so quickly. The guards know his nature now and are prepared for it, but that still doesn’t stop him.

"They aren't scared of me like the others, and say shit how it is. I can respect that."
Vlad is an intimidating dude, and he knows it. He likes things that way because most of the time it keeps people away from him, or better yet, bending to his will... Or so he'd like to think. But Novak isn't like that. They tell things how it is, especially when pertaining to him. He doesn't know if that's admirable or stupid, but he respects her balls. Not that he'd ever say anything out loud. More often than not, he takes it as a challenge to up his game.

"Hawke is the most important person here. No question."
Although everyone in the group has been together for a long time, no one has been there with Vlad as long as his own brother, Hawke. They've went through it all together... The experiments, electrocution treatments, solitary... All of it. They are connected on a level beyond most people's comprehension, their powers even a yin and yang, making one complete whole. There is absolutely nothing that Vlad wouldn't do for his brother. Vlad's morals live in a world of grey area, while Hawke is the scale that holds him towards the light when he can easily spiral into darkness.

"Either you want to live or you don't. It's that simple."
Vlad hasn't taken the time at all to even remotely try to get to know anything about Ivy. He takes her sullen silences and depression to mean she is suicidal. Although that couldn't be farther from the truth, that's still what he believes. He's about as deep as a puddle when it comes to understanding some of the emotional trauma the others go through, especially someone who will never know physical contact. He believes that she is simply looking for attention or something along those lines. When they do speak to each other, through Hawke, it quickly builds to an argument of some kind.

"Our own resident nerd."
Honestly, Vlad zones out nearly every time the wiry bookworm speaks. Unlike the others, he doesn't care about the books Specter reads and what other nonsense he learns. Any book or knowledge that could be of any significance isn't available to them, so what importance could Hemingway or Grey's Anatomy really be? It's either dry content of the mathematics or science variety... Or fictional. Nothing pertains to the world outside the facility, or the history before this place existed. So, he has no use for the boy. His only concern being the closeness between Specter and Hawke.

"There's a diagnosis for that... It's called Stockholm Syndrome."
Vlad doesn't understand Hanne at all, not one bit. How could anyone be so content with their life within in the facility? They live in a white box, told when to shit, eat and sleep. Bread and trained to become more powerful for some unknown reason. He fights with every breath every day, for as long as he can. While blondie goes along with anything the suits tell her. It turns his stomach. He'd rather get the shit beaten out of himself daily, rather than comply for a content existence in hell for the rest of his life. He's constantly trying to crack Hanne's porcelain shell so she sees how fucked this place really is.

Novak knelt down before Vlad, evident by their expression that they were trying to figure out how to aid him. Unfortunately, he wasn't a skinny little thing like Specter was, but luckily for them, he was still conscious and could manage some of his weight himself. "Put your arm around me," they ordered. In any other circumstances he'd argue. This was the closest any of them had ever gotten to escape. It was so close that he could taste it, which only made the fear of losing that heightened. So, he nodded his head and draped his arm over their shoulders while his other hand kept strong pressure to wound.

Then they shifted to their feet. The moment sent shooting pain up his abdomen as he could feel muscles straining, threatening to tear under the movement. "Fuck," Vlad groaned, breathing heavily through his nose as he tried to remain calm and on his feet.

Novak used their free arm to open a portal. "You go first," They instructed and Specter didn't argue. He adjusted his hold on Hanne, making sure her head was supported on his shoulder before he stepped through. He kept his focus straight, making sure not to diverge.

"Ivy? Don't take too long. We'll be waiting," Novak's last parting words before they escorted Vlad through the portal after Specter.

Vlad tried his best to carry his own weight alongside them, wincing and groaning with each step. The farther they traveled the more he could feel his own strength leaving him. He had to tell himself to push through it. Don't get lost forever in this void, but better yet, don't slow down the others. He wasn't going to be the reason this attempt failed. He let out a sigh of slight relief the second they stepped out of the portal into... rain? While Novak was focused on pushing forward, Vlad couldn't help but steal a glance upwards at the sky, a dark abyss, fogged by rain clouds and light pollution, to hectic to see stars. But there it was, a large glowing saucer peeking out above the tree line.

Specter was in awe. Hundreds of thousands of books he read. Pages and pages described trees, grass, night and day... Rain. But no number of words could describe it, the smell of the wet air, the coolness of the water as it landed upon his skin like a shower of awakening. Rain mixed with tears, glistening down his cheeks. It wasn't long before his curls were weighted down, clinging to his face. Specter squinted as he tried to focus on Novak through drenched locks and the darkness of night. "This way."

He had never been in such darkness. An illuminated night was different the pitch darkness of a cell he's been in most of his life. He could be blind and know his way around that small room. But the protruding tree roots, low hanging branches and slipperiness of the mud baffled him. Specter's gaze focused on each foot placement, relying on his ears to guide him to follow Novak. A couple of his own steps slipped on a mossy rock or wet root, barely able to steady himself before himself and his fare.

Vlad kept pace with Novak as best as he could, occasionally raising his free hand to push branches out of their way. He didn't know if their choice of destination was their choice or rather due to the fact that he all but fell over onto the ground when his legs no longer could carry him. Vlad collapsed with a groan, landing on the soggy and muddy earth. His breathing was labored as he pushed off the ground with one hand before Novak helped guide him to sit between roots, leaning back against a tree. "I know it's not comfortable. Just try to put up with it for a while."

Before Novak stood up, Vlad reached out and grabbed their forearm. It took him a moment to find the words. Everything took so much more effort than it normally should. Through gritted teeth and strained breathing he spoke, nearly too quiet to hear beneath the rain and thunder, but his lips showed the truth of his words, "Thank you."

Once the group came to a stop, Specter found the driest ground he could find. They were all soaked at that point, but he didn't wish to set Hanne down in a puddle of mud either. He gently placed her upon the ground, kneeling behind her. He kept her head rested in his lap as he tried to rouse her. "How's Hanne looking?"

Specter parted his lips to answer, but Hanne's groans filled the silence. "I - ow, what happened?" The blonde struggled to her feet.

"Woah! Woah! Slow down." Specter instinctually stood with her, holding his hands out on either side, preparing to catch her incase she was lightheaded.

"We're... outside? Is this outside? I shouldn't have - none of us have been this far - this is insane..."

And there was the panic. If Vlad had even half of his strength, he would have smacked some sense into her. This wasn't the time to panic. He was dying, his brother and Ivy were stilled inside, and they were not in the clear, not yet. But regardless, he didn't have the effort to even scold her. His eyes grew heavy, his hold on the wound weakening. Vlad could feel consciousness leaving him. It was like fighting sleep when your eyes lids were as heavy as anvils.

Novak took hold of Hanne's shoulders and shook her abruptly. "Focus! We're outside, yes, but Ivy and Hawke are still inside and we need to help them. You stay here with Vlad, and we'll be back soon. Don't go anywhere and don't make a sound. Okay?" The blonde didn't reply immediately, causing Specters brows to furrow in concern. He didn't want to send Novak in there alone, but he didn't like the idea of leaving Vlad alone in Hanne's hands if she was distraught. He could run in there alone but... It would take him too long and they'd see whichever direction they escaped to.

"Okay. I'll stay here, with Vlad." Hanne sat herself down on a rock beside Vlad. "Just give me a moment to fix my head and I'll be with you." He struggled to open an eye to look over at her. She looked dazed, confused... regretful. Great. This textbook lab rat was going to be the end of all of them. She never wanted this, to be free. She was the obedient one and by the look of her face she'd rather turn them all in and go back to a life a certainty, rather than risk a life of freedom because of the uncertainty. Out of all the times, this was an opportunity where his powers would be useful but that wasn't happening, not now.

"I'm not going anywhere," Vlad groaned. He inhaled sharply, causing himself to cough and blood stain his lips. Dying really was for the dogs. Vlad had thought numerous times before that he was dying after a particularly brutal beating from the guards but looking back on it, that held no contest to what he felt now. There was a serenity feeling life drain from you. It seemed the worse his condition got, the less pain he felt. He would be happy dying here, knowing that he got to feel rain upon his face and taste the freedom. He'd just want to see Hawke one more time, try to ease his brother from the torment he, no doubt, would put himself through.

"I'm going to take us right back to where we left from. Keep an eye out for anyone moving towards us."

Specter nodded his head. "We have to move the minute we get back," he said towards Hanne, hopefully giving her enough drive to heal Vlad. He had no idea how long something like that would take, but they couldn't stay in the woods once they returned with Hawke and Ivy.

Then without another word he followed after Novak, sprinting through the portal. He stepped out in the corridor, tripping and nearly stepping on one of the fallen guards. "Where are they?"

In the small closet, Ivy tried to help calm and focus Hawke. She slowed her breathing, but her heart still raced in her chest. In the silence the sound of it beating roared in her ears. They were so close. Each passing second felt like an hour as they waited... Waited for Novak and Specter to return, or guards to find them. But equal to the excitement and anxiety of their potential escape, something else made Ivy's hands tremble slightly with each breath. Never, in her life had she stood so close to another person. Even with gloves, physical contact never last more than a brief moment. Yet, in that moment they stood merely inches away. She could feel his breath on her face, his pulse racing beneath the surface of his skin. She could feel another person.

Ivy tried not to focus on that, on her own thoughts and worries and new sensations. Of course, you can never really remove your own thoughts. She could only imagine what insights Hawke has gotten into her own mind. The thought made her flush. But she quickly tried to lead her train of thought to something calm. Unfortunately, they knew nothing of calm or the outside world. Instead it was crude images of what she imaged the world to be... The world they would get to explore in any moment. Ivy had no idea what buildings or cities... or animals would look like, just the descriptions of Specter's books to go off of. But still, she tried to paint the picture.

Specter stood in the middle of the intricate hallways, scanning all the surrounding rooms as far as his sight would take him looking for Ivy and Hawke. What he saw first wasn't the others, but dozens of feet of guards rushing through the corridors. He looked over at Novak, holding up a finger to signal her to be quiet before he took her hand and ran. Hell of a time for Specter to really trying to spread his ability to another person, but if there is ever a time to try it, it was under pressure. With a deep breath, he sprinted at a wall, his hold on her hand tightening as he passed through it and thankfully she followed through like the wall wasn't there. He mouthed a silent thank you, more to his powers than anything and continued forward, guiding them through walls.

Ivy's eyes snapped open as she looked up to Hawke. The sounds of footsteps hurrying down the halls just on the other side of the door sounded as loud as thunder. She couldn't fight the racing her heart. Was this it? The end? Ivy took a step in front of the door, standing between it and Hawke. She slowly reached her hand back to take his. I can't go back... I won't taken alive. The steps stopped, and everything grew silent. Her eyes closed as she held her breath. We're not here. We're not here.

Then, the door didn't open but two fingers passed through it. Ivy might have screamed in shock, but before anything escaped her lips, Specter's hand covered her mouth, knocking her backwards into Hawke. As quickly as his hand touched her, he withdrew it, wincing as she tried to shake of the burn from touching her skin. Ivy mouthed an inaudible sorry, trying to keep her skin from touching the others as best as possible, but they all stood shoulder to shoulder in the small closet.

Specter looked at Hawke, hoping he knew to open a mental link between them all. [ Hanne and Vlad are safe outside the facility. But we have to go, the halls are filled with guards... They have guns. ] He looked between all of them, then over at Novak. [ Can you get a portal to reach? Or do we need to get closer? ] Specter had no idea the distance her portals went. He hoped they could go from within the closet and get the biggest head start as possible. But it was dangerous being optimistic. The knot still twisted in his stomach.

"We have to move the minute we get back." Maybe Spectre meant to push her just that little extra, but all Hanne felt was the stress weighing her down. Moving to find the sore spot on her head, she pressed her fingers too hard against it, and a sharp ache radiated through her skull. Ears ringing from the pain, she squeezed her eyes shut and concentrated against it. She could feel the healing come from a place deep inside her brain - it wasn't a painful sensation, but rather an uncomfortable one, as though she was slowly pulling a thread through her head that unravelled the damage done as it went along.

"I'm not going anywhere." She and Vlad passed a few minutes in silence, with little distraction aside from the rain falling around them, and when she felt she'd fixed enough she put her hands down. Now to see to Vlad. She scooted over to his side, folding her legs underneath her. When they were back in the facility she'd stitched the external wound up, to stop the bleeding, but no doubt there was still damage going on under the surface. But with the outside wound closed off, she had a little trouble figuring out where to direct her senses.

"Where does it hurt?" she asked, fingertips skittering over Vlad's abdominal area. She needed a better visual, but she really didn't want to...

"I'm just going to, to get a better look," she whispered apologetically, pushing Vlad's jumpsuit out of the way and his undershirt up so she could place one palm against his bare side. Now even if she couldn't even see the part where she had knitted his skin together earlier, she could feel what was going on inside.

The best way, Hanne decided, was to direct the healing from the rest of the stab wound all the way up, and fix anything else along the way - she could see the blood on Vlad's lips, and it worried her. "Keep breathing," she directed. Under her palm, his flesh began to pull together, sealing closed where it had been split open before; and she couldn't help it, more blood was being pushed upward. As long as the wound was fixed Vlad's body would generate more blood to sustain itself without her help, but it was a necessary evil at the moment. Vlad would probably cough more up, but he'd be okay.

In the closet, Hawke's breathing had almost slowed to a normal rate. In the small space, he could almost feel the beating of both his and Ivy's hearts, but he tried to focus on being in that moment, on the both of them squeezed into that tiny closet. He saw the images in her thoughts as clearly as if she'd been holding drawings up in front of him, and even in his anxiety he felt amused at her attempts to envision the outside. With any luck, they'd know what it looked like soon.

Footsteps outside jolted Hawke's hopeful thoughts to a halt. Ivy, her entire being radiating trepidation, moved to stand between him and the door. Hawke instinctively raised a hand to touch her shoulder, to reassure her that he would be there with her no matter what, but drew back right before his fingers made contact with her bare skin, remembering.

Something was different about the presence outside the closet, though. Hawke wasn't familiar with all the guards in the facility, but as a general rule their minds were so violently loud that they might as well have yelled all their thoughts into a bullhorn pointed in Hawke's direction. The minds on the other side of the door were different, much quieter; but Hawke couldn't get a fix on them. Ivy's singular focus drowned out everything else.

A hand slid through the door, and Hawke jerked back in surprise. Ivy followed suit, and Hawke was forced to do a quick shuffle backwards to avoid touching her. All the same, her shoulder bumped his still-outstretched hand for a moment, and he quickly pulled it back to his side, clenching his jaw to avoid hissing in pain.

Novak followed Specter into the closet, the four of them crowded in the tiny room, their back pressed to the solid-again surface of the door. They felt Hawke pull them into a mental link, and Specter outlined the situation quickly. [ Hanne and Vlad are safe outside the facility. But we have to go, the halls are filled with guards... They have guns. Can you get a portal to reach? Or do we need to get closer? ]

A portal to the outside from here would be hard. Novak shook their head. [ I can try. But it may not be far enough. ] They turned around in the closet, maneuvering carefully to place their palms flat on the door. Envisioning the place where they'd left Hanne and Vlad, and then the path they'd taken to get back here, they opened a new portal, and waved the others through—Specter, Ivy, and then Hawke, and then Novak hopped through, closing the portal behind them.

When Hawke stepped through, he felt the air change. Inside the facility, it was always coldly static, feeling like the whole building was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen. But outside... there was wind blowing across his face, rain falling from the sky, and when Hawke exhaled he felt like he'd been waiting his whole life just to take that breath. It smelled rich and fresh, like nothing he'd ever smelled before.

He wasn't aware he'd stopped in his tracks until Novak fell into his back. He turned, reaching to grasp one of their hands in his, staring wildly down into their eyes. He couldn't speak, couldn't express what this feeling was. They understood immediately, mustering a small smile. "I know."

Hanne had almost finished Vlad. He'd coughed up more blood, quite a lot more than she had been expecting if she was to be honest, staining the front of his jumpsuit a nauseating purple in the poor lighting. "You'll be okay," she whispered, trying to be reassuring. Really, as long as she closed up the wound Vlad's body would work to manage the blood loss, and even if he was feeling lightheaded he'd be okay fairly soon. She was pretty certain.

Over the pattering of the rain she thought she heard footsteps moving in their direction, and jolted in shock. Her first instinct was to draw back, but she looked down at Vlad, and realised she was the only one who could do anything to protect them in that moment. So instead of backing away, or even hiding, she stood up, holding her hands out, unsure what she could do but ready to fight nonetheless.

Novak wasn't sure where exactly in the forest they'd come out. It was outside the facility, that much was true, but they'd misjudged the distance from the closet and now everything looked the same in the dark. The rain dripping into their eyes didn't really help either.

They could have wandered through the woods for ever, but in a moment of luck they turned a corner, and found themselves back in the same copse of trees. A strange scene was waiting—Hanne was standing over Vlad, who was lying on the ground, very bloody and still. Hanne's eyes were large in her pale face, and she looked as though she was ready to attack Novak. The moment their gazes locked, however, she seemed to relax, putting her hands down. "Over here!" Novak called to the others, hoping no one else was around to hear them.

Hawke was the next to appear, his eyes moving from Hanne to Vlad, lying on the ground. In an instant he had sprinted over, dropping to his knees beside his brother. "Vlad? How are you feeling? Talk to me."

The setting changes from S.A.A. Facility to Seoul, South Korea

Vlad flinched as Hanne began working on his wound without much of a warning. Sure, there wasn't really time for warnings of 'brace yourself' in situations like these but it would have been nice. He tried his best not to flinch or move too much. While it was uncomfortable, his fatigue won against any squirming he might have done, keeping him relatively still as she worked. "Where does it hurt?"

He scoffed. "Where I was stabbed," he replied sardonically. Where else would it hurt?

"I'm just going to, to get a better look." Vlad motioned his hand as if saying 'make yourself at home.' He might have helped or done it himself if he could have, but he was more focused on staying awake at the moment. Hanne's hands on his abdomen or removing his clothes didn't bother him much. Perhaps in a better state he might have made a lewd comment, but it wasn't really the time or place for it. With his skin bare, the coolness of the rain on his chest took him a bit by surprise. There was so much to take in that if he wasn't preoccupied with not dying he might have been overwhelmed.

"Keep breathing."

"You got it, doc," Vlad replied, trying to focus on his breathing. As Hanne began trying to heal him, he could feel the fluids inside him rising. It wasn't long before he half doubled over coughing up blood. He would stop long enough to get in a breath or two before it all happened again. He felt more like he was vomiting it up at the rate it came out. While he started to get a bit worried, Hanne seemed calm like this was supposed to happen. Vlad tried his best not to panic and stay calm knowing that it would only make the situation worse if he started getting worked up.

Inside the closet, the small group quickly tried to work through finding a way back to Hanne and Vlad. Specter's idea seemed as good as any. If Novak could make a portal and get them out of there, then maybe it could be enough of a head start. The guards wouldn't see where they went and they'd have to search everywhere. They needed that time... Desperately.

[ I can try. But it may not be far enough. ]

Ivy did her best to remain as out of the way as possible. She already felt guilty for the injuries Specter and Hawke had gotten from touching her. Luckily, Spec lingered in the corner keeping himself intangible like a ghost so that the space wasn't more crammed than it needed to be while Novak tried to make a portal where the door was. Once it was open, Ivy ran in first without hesitation. There was no time to waste and freedom was so close she could almost taste it. Just a little further.

A foot before the exiting portal, Ivy froze, her heart racing in her chest. She took a deep breath before stepping through, her bare foot sinking into the cool wet mud. At first the rain surprised her but it quickly brought a smile to her face. She raised her hands, palms up like she was trying to catch it as she looked up into the sky. Is this what the world felt like? It was like for the first time in her life she could breathe, yet it also robbed her of breath.

Once reality settled back in, Ivy looked around behind drenched raven bangs not seeing Hanne or Vlad. "Where are they?"

Specter came to her side, lightly resting his hand on her back where her shirt covered her skin. "Novak's portals only go so far. They have to be close by." He looked around to the others then moved to the front beside Novak to help them find their way back to Hanne and Vlad. It was hard to see through darkness and the rain, even with his x-ray vision. The down pour and thunder were loud enough to muffle any sounds they might have heard, but he didn't dare call out for them in fear of signaling any guards that might be near by.

"Fuck," Vlad groaned with a raspy voice between coughs. His throat hurt and at that point, half of him was covered in blood.

"You'll be okay," Hanne whispered. He hoped she was right. Vlad was more focused on the blood he kept coughing up over the wound in his abdomen. She kept telling him it'd be ok, and he had no choice but to take her word for it.

Hanne noticed the footsteps before Vlad did. It wasn't until she was on her feet in some strange stance of attack that he caught on. He didn't have much strength, but maybe enough to get whomever was coming close to forget they were here. He reached up to take Hanne's wrist and beckon her back, but then he heard Novak's voice over the rain. "Over here!" Vlad released his hold on Hanne, sighing out of relief as he leaned back against the tree.

Hawke wasted no time rushing to Vlad's side and dropping to his knees. "Vlad? How are you feeling? Talk to me."

"Peachy," Vlad responded with a thumbs up and a crimson grin. He then coughed a few more times before spitting blood onto the ground.

"We need to go," Specter spoke up. He didn't want to rush Vlad or the others, but every second they spent idle was another moment that the guards could be closing in. His gaze rarely looked at the others, instead darting around at the forest around them, looking past the trees for any signs that they were being followed.

Ivy slowly walked up behind Hawke, lightly placing her hand on his shoulder. "I need my jumpsuit." She entrusted it to him and hoped he still had it on him somewhere. The rain was cold and the breeze through the trees only added to the chill. With a lack of clothing and drenched to the bone, she couldn't help but shiver. When he handed it over, she quickly pulled it on along with the pair of gloves in the pocket. It wasn't long before it too was drenched, but it was better than nothing.

Specter took a couple steps forward trying to figure out their next plan of action. "From what I've seen, the whole facility is surrounded by woods with a single road in and out. I have no idea where the world we are, so I can't begin to try and figure out what lies beyond the forest. But the rain is on our side. It'll cover up most of our tracks, especially if we keep as much of our steps to the puddles or tree roots as possible." He ran a hand back through his wet curls before pointing in the direction opposite of the facility. "Our best bet will be traveling through the woods until we come across... Something." It wasn't much of a plan, but what else could they do? They had no maps or ideas about where they were. They could be in Australia, Brazil... America, or maybe even on a whole other planet. They were truly lost.

"I'll help you with Vlad," Ivy said looking down at Hawke. While Novak helped get him outside, they were the best suited to help Specter find safe passage and a way out. And Hanne... The girl looked jumpy to say the least and two steps away from tucking tail and running back to the facility. Ivy wasn't going to risk the girl's hesitation slowing herself and the others down. She was free to stay if she wanted or come, but there was no time to be slowed down by anything or anyone.

"Let's go then," Vlad said as he put one hand in Hawke's and the other in Ivy's gloved palm. Together they pulled him to his feet. He hand an arm draped around each of their shoulders, using their bodies to help support his weight. He did feel better. Not 100%, but good enough that together, they should be able to keep up.

Specter nodded his head towards the group making sure they were ready before he started deeper into the woods, leading them onward. No matter how far they traveled every tree looked the same and there were no landmarks to help them navigate. Luckily, it wasn't difficult to keep walking straight. They trudged onwards for who knows how long... miles? Hours? Only once or twice did they stop, using the trees and bushes as cover when they saw a distant flashlight far off in the trees.

The sky slowly began to change to a shade of lavender as dawn must have been approaching. The group was tired and their pace had slowed significantly. "I see a clearing," Specter half gasped. Without warning, he started sprinting forward. His feet stopped just before he bursted through the tree line. There was a large chainlink fence, topped with barbed wire that stretched before them, looking to encompass the entire forest. To the left he could see the single road and gateway past the fences that he could only assume lead back to the facility... And a sign that said S.A.A. Facility. Private property. Trespassers will be prosecuted. And to the right... ?

Dozens... Or hundreds of buildings of all shapes and sizes reached for as far as the eye could see. Some only a few floors tall, while other skyscrapers looked to disappear into the clouds of the thunderstorm. Even in the wee hours of the morning... or night, it was still illuminated and bustling. It was a city, it had to be. Specter had seen pictures of some and read many descriptions but it still didn't prepare him for this. Everything seemed newer or more foreign, like the books he read were centuries old. The city before them seemed far more advanced. There were machines on the streets and ones flying in the air. It looked like something he read about in science fiction books, not reality.

"I can get us through the fence," he said as he slowly turned to face the others as they caught up to him. "If that's what we want."

Hanne winced as Vlad coughed out blood, looking back and forth between him and Hawke. "I fixed what I could. He's weak from blood loss but he'll live. It would be best if you could get some rest soon, Vlad, but you'll be fine. I promise." There wasn't much she could say, knowing that they'd reached a temporary truce only because he needed her help. And now she'd done what she could, so she was no longer needed. She backed away, moving towards the others.

Only the gentle hand on Hawke's shoulder pulled him out of his worry, and he jerked around to look at Ivy. Jumpsuit... "Right. Sorry." He'd almost forgotten about the bundle of cloth, pressed to his side. This he returned to Ivy, turning away to allow her some privacy while she pulled it back on.

Beside Specter, Novak was trying to come up with a plan, but no ideas were coming to mind. The combined effort of the escape and the jumps they'd done were beginning to take a toll on them, and they could feel their energy sapping slowly, a migraine beginning to take hold in their head.

"Something isn't good enough," they countered Specter. "We should be trying to find some signs of other people, then we could at least hide. Otherwise we'll be walking around in this forest until we're caught." They paused, and then it came to them. "A road. What we need is a road. Then we'll be able to follow it to people."

"We'll take whatever we can find," Hawke said grimly as he hauled Vlad upright, adjusting to support his weight. He didn't want to say so, but at this point it was really up to Specter to get them out of there, being the only person who could read the environment enough to find them a way to safety. But pointing it out would just put undue stress on the boy.

As they walked along, as quickly as they could given Vlad's injuries, Hawke couldn't help the guilt that spread through his system. There were so many moments where he had dropped the ball, focusing only on surviving in the moment. If only he had tried to figure the facility out sooner. If only he had worked harder to bring everyone together to work out a plan. Now they were all soaked, lost, and growing tired, and all they could do was trudge forward or face recapture.

The group moved through the trees in silence for a while, Hanne drifting along behind them. Now that the initial excitement of the escape was over, she was beginning to come to terms with what she had done, especially to that guard. What had she done, exactly? She wasn't thinking clearly when it happened, just let her emotions bubble up and take over; apparently she was capable of things she didn't know she could do.

"What are you thinking about?" Novak's voice pulled Hanne out of her reverie, and she looked up at them, speechless for a moment. "Um, just... the, this whole thing..."

Novak nodded, misunderstanding Hanne's brooding. "You're not a burden, you know. I mean, I'm sure Vlad's grateful that you came along, but you're part of us. You deserve to be free, too."

She frowned. It wasn't a concern occupying her at the moment, but it was strange to hear affirmation like that. She was well aware of how some of the others thought she was a dead weight, complacently happy in her cell. Novak had never really seemed to share Vlad's vitriol, but they had never been particularly approving either.

She would have said as much, but at that moment, up ahead, Specter called back "I see a clearing," and Novak hurried up front to look, leaving Hanne alone.

Specter reached the clearing first, but Novak was close behind, almost running full tilt into the fence, their earlier exhaustion all but forgotten. This was better than a road, so much better. Their fears of being condemend to wander forever in search of civilisation vanished as they looked upon the city in awe, the lights reflected in their eyes. There had never been anything like this before.

Hawke could sense Vlad and Ivy getting excited too, although he tried to temper himself. He glanced around to make sure they hadn't been followed; the coast seemed clear. "Alright, we'll go through. Be careful. Take Novak first, then Vlad." At least that way Vlad would get out first, and have someone waiting on the other side for him, plus Ivy could catch a break from supporting him. It couldn't have been that easy, given Vlad's weight as the most muscular of the group.

Novak went through obediently, waiting to help support Vlad as he passed with Specter through the fence, turning them both so they could stare at in the city's direction until the others were through. "The lights are crazy, huh? I didn't think they would look like this. Like if I swallowed all this brightness I could float away." It didn't make sense. But it was all they could say.

Hanne followed after Vlad, and Hawke motioned Ivy forward. "Ladies first." He was eager to get back to Vlad, certain in the back of his mind that if he looked away for too long something bad would happen; he would get injured again, he would start coughing blood and never stop, he would just vanish... But then the sign on the fence caught his attention, and it puzzled him. What was S.A.A.? Surely it had to be them... but what did it mean? "Specter," he gestured at the sign, "do you know what this means? Have you ever read about it?"

Novak turned, glaring disdainfully at the fence. "Who gives a damn? We're out now, and it's going to stay that way. I'm not going back in there now that I'm out here. The only way they'll get me in that building is carrying my corpse through the front doors."

Hawke winced. It was a poor choice of words. "Alright. Nobody's dying just yet. Our priority right now is finding clothes, then somewhere to rest. We made it this far, but we're not out of the woods just yet." He glanced over his shoulder at the trees. "...Figuratively. They're not going to give up that easily, and we probably look really suspicious. We're going to need to keep a low profile for now." Easier said than done. Other things like food and money—whatever passed as currency here—wouldn't just fall into their lap, but first above all was shelter. They couldn't be sitting ducks out in the open, covered in blood.

Once Vlad was repositioned between Hawke and Ivy they set off towards the city, moving forward in silence. No one passed them as they inched closer to the lights, Hawke's feet aching with every step. Finally, they were standing on the edge of the city, pressed up against the warehouses that lined its borders. Storage space... and one of them might store clothes. Novak, sensing Hawke's tiredness, tried to take charge, as jumbled as their mind felt. "Specter, you take that row, and I'll go this way. See what you can find. Something here has got to be useful. The rest of you just... just sit here and wait. Hawke, give us a shout if anyone comes." They tapped their temple meaningfully, and started off down a row of warehouses, determined to pull enough juice together to make a few more portals.

Hawke helped Vlad sit down, giving him a once over. He didn't look quite the worse for their trip, but Hawke was concerned all the same. It wouldn't do them any good to stay on their feet for too long, yet he couldn't sit still. After a moment, he pulled Ivy aside. "Will you keep an eye on them? I'm going to have a look around, make sure that no one's coming." He set off at a slow walk, keeping his mind open to any foreign presences.

The first few warehouses didn't yield any good results. They were certainly large, but often packed with things Novak didn't recognise; some had huge machines, others shelves upon shelves of wrapped boxes. Eventually they found one stocked with racks, clothes in plastic bags hung on them. Over half the warehouse was packed with such racks, and surely something would fit them. Novak hurried back to the group, waving them over. "I found clothes, come have a look!"
