Introduction

Plot background

Karlil, a fantasy world built on mystic and magic. Lemuria, an advanced world built on science and machines. Two entirely worlds, destined to remain separate forever.

Some forces, however, don’t care for destiny. The leader of the Loranian Empire of Karlil, in his desire for more power, messed with something outside of his control. In doing so, he use the Star Gate, a massive gate of stone, to open a portal which connected that which should have remained separate. Now, he has invoked the wrath of Lemuria, which is under the iron-fisted rule of a President who cares only for power over his land.

As the two tyrants battle it out, others from both worlds have other ideas of their own. Some individuals have taken it upon themselves to stop the conflict. Some individuals are trying to further their own agenda.

Two worlds have collided, bringing together great evils but also great heroes. What is your role in this unprecedented event?

World information - Lemuria

Geography: Gaiden is a very clean country in the northern hemisphere of Lemuria with very advanced technology. The capital city, Gibbs (or Gibbs city), has an abundance of skyscrapers and the highest population of the country.

Lemuria was lucky to have been one of the countries of the world that survived the Outbreak two hundred years ago. Most of the rest of the world was not; the wildlife had mutated into powerful and dangerous monsters that can and will overpower a human easily. For this reason, most people are expected to know how to handle weapons and defensive gear.

The problem with the world of Lemuria is that achieving space-flight is near impossible; asteroids and other things are very frequent around the planet and the Sina-73 Meteor Disaster was only one of the more dangerous meteor showers the world has faced. For these reasons, no one wishes to risk building a space shuttle, much less launch it into space.

Races: Human, Cyborg, Android, Altered (have had their body functions changed with expensive biomodifications and nanotechnology). Soldiers and other military workers are entitled to free bio and nanotech modifications. Everyone else has to pay for their own.

Technology: A commonly used power source is a mysterious crystal known as Sina-73 crystals, just called S73 crystals, discovered by Doctor Aello Manikas forty three years ago during the narrowly averted Sina-73 Meteor Disaster. S73 crystals, capable of holding great amounts of power, are normally the size of pebbles (the anti-air turrets were quite thorough at the time) and they are almost always green-purple in colour. They are also renewable energy sources; put them in the sun and they can slowly recharge. No one knows this yet but they can absorb magic and their properties depend on the energy absorbed (fallen magic would create dark crystals, for instance). S73 crystals can’t absorb all magic that comes their way, though: if struck by a lightning bolt spell, only 5% of that magic would be absorbed. S73 crystals can be used almost anywhere.

While kinetic weapons and bullets do exist for explosives and other weapons, most weapons used in this age use generators to convert the exotic energy of S73 crystals into solid matter. For example, the Cardinal-7 Sidearm, one of the most commonly used weapons of this age, is a heavy pistol with a revolver-esque chamber which is actually the battery housing the S73 crystal(s) that converts their energy into bullets or a blade of exotic matter. These bullets, fired at a high rate, have the power of a 2000-era anti-infantry heavy machine gun. The energy blade, shaped by the gun’s embedded computer, has great cutting power that can rival the penetrating power of S73-powered HMGs. Assault rifles of the Lemuria age are much more powerful in comparison. The great reserves of power in a S73 crystal means that the Cardinal-7 sidearm can fire multiples of thousands of shots before needing to be reloaded. Other guns can convert the energy into other objects, like the Tesla Lance Rifle and its electricity replica, the Ignisdeus and its directed energy that can set other objects on fire and more.

As the offensive power of weapons has increased, protective equipment has also been improved over the ages. A metal known as Doramiyagane, discovered by Makoki Inui seventy three years ago by falling into a pit, is amazingly resilient and can withstand even repeated shots of the Cardinal-7 Sidearm. Mixed in with other metals like gold and tungsten, it can have many properties indeed.

Jetpacks have also been developed by directing the energy created by S73 crystals out of small jets to propel the wearer forward.

Of course, not anyone can just use such magnificent hardware; for weapons like the Cardinal-7 Sidearm, you have to be a qualified Ranger. It’s a small task; a psych examination, physical examination, a test on the laws of society and a practical demonstration of actually using the weapon. After that, you’re essentially free to do whatever you want within reason; should the government or a body of political power find that your behaviour as a Ranger is unacceptable, the title will be revoked. Rangers tend to be few and far between.

World information - Karlil

Geography: The continent of Ethlan in the world of Karlil is, in a word, rather sleepy. There are no major countries there; while most of the towns and villages depend on the larger port city of Ziliath for their goods, they have arranged no official nations. Most of the continent is heavily wooded with massive mountain ranges running in stripes along bands. In the mists of the mountain heights lie a few Fyrian towns and cities, though they have only allowed a select few into their depths.

The northern and southern parts of the continent remain mostly unexplored due to the terrain. The south is home to an expansive desert, the heat and sand keeping out most would-be explorers. The north is a similar story, only ice-flows and snowstorms keep the travellers at bay.

The nearby continent of Zilia is quite the opposite. It is united under one banner, the banner of the Loranian Empire. The Loranians systematically conquered the entire continent within the last 20 years, and are now looking to expand to Ethlan too…

Races: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Baoric (animalistic beast-like humanoid race), Fyrian (winged humanoid race), Orc, Goblin, Fae, and many others

Magic: There exist three main types of magic: the Arcane, the Divine, and the Fallen. Within Arcane magic, the type that most spellcasters use, are 6 schools: Alteration, Conjuration, Enchantment, Invocation, Phantasm, and Necromancy. Alteration allows one to change what something is, to transform from one thing to another. Conjuration calls for something, be it physical or metaphysical. Enchantment allows the caster to add something on to something else. Invocation allows one to control the elements. Phantasm gives the user the ability to craft illusions. And Necromancy allows one to reanimate the dead.

Divine magic is magic that comes straight from the heavens. Only the devout can seek its blessings, but they are rewarded greatly. Divine magic usually takes the form of healing or protection, but no miracle is out of its grasp potentially.

And to counterbalance that, there is Fallen magic. Fallen is the magic of death even more so than Necromancy. To use it, you must make a deal with a demon. Demonic bargains are always harsh, cruel, and cunning, most often ending up with the soul of the deal-maker on the scales. But for some, it does not matter. Power is power, no matter the price, and there is little doubt that Fallen magic is the magic of power. If you are willing to lose your humanity, that is.

There is also the rare Natural magic. Natural magic cannot be harness nor understood. It simply exists. There are some places in this word that simply hum with its power. It can even come to be imbued in items of power. It can be found in places like the Uthac Etal, or the Glittering Caves, and the Forbidden Grotto of Lilica. Nature magic is unpredictable. All one can do is gaze upon it and pray it is not a danger to them.

Character skeleton

Name: (Well, we can't have you running around without a name, can we? Unless, of course, you have a very good reason for it)
Age: (Think about their jobs before saying 15. There is no such thing as a teenage Sergeant, for example, and I doubt we have Archmages in their mid-20s)
Species: (You have three guesses as to what this means. The first two don't count)
Description: (This is your 1000 words if you have no pic, or any deviations from the picture)
Personality: (Please, I beg you, apply angst only sparingly. Nobody likes a whiner)
Equipment: (Whatever you want. Just make sure the character's equipment fits their circumstances and birthplace and everything)
Abilities: (Again, make sure it fits)
History: (As long or as short as you want)
Extra: (You have more to say? Why, put it here!)
