Untamed Spirits

Untamed Spirits

Spirits banished from the spirit realm are draining humans to sustain their life force in the human world. It is down to Spirit Summoners to end the rogue spirit's rampage.

843 readers have visited Untamed Spirits since Valor created it.

Introduction

Long ago, the Celestial King made a bond between the spirit realm and the human realm. It allowed humans to make contracts with the spirits and call for their help when needed. There were only two rules that the Celestial King brought down on spirits:

Do not kill your summoner.
Do not fall in love with your summoner.

Breaking either of these rules would result in banishment from the spirit realm – meaning the spirits would have to survive for as long as possible on the human realm. This is a problem for the spirits, as their life force is drained from them as they spend more time out of their realm. When the spirit runs out of their life force, they simply fade away into nothingness. The time a spirit can survive in the human realm depends on the strength of the spirit, the stronger they are the longer they can live in the human realm.

The banished spirits go unnoticed, living their lives to the full and fading away when there was nothing of them left. Until recently.

The death toll of humans is rising rapidly, the cause of death is unexplainable. It looks like they just dropped to the ground, but that does not make sense in so many people. Summoners and their spirits investigated this, and suspect that the banished spirits have found away to prolong their life in the human realm.

The banished spirits are draining the energy out of humans, taking their life force enough to sustain their own for longer. The deaths are ranging from innocent people, women and children, to thieves and murderers. The intentions of these spirits are hard to tell, but the spirits are growing in power and that is a worrying sign.

It has been agreed that the banished spirits need to be stopped, and it is down to the summoners to make things right, as spirits can kill other spirits.

~~~
You can either play a banished spirit that is draining the humans for whatever reason, or a summoner trying to stop these rogue spirits. Or if you want to, you can be a plain old human.
Spirits can take any form, from a normal looking person to a mythical beast. Their powers and strengths are all different and no two are the same. A contracted spirit lives in the spirit realm till it is called upon, where it does it's summoner's bidding and then returns to the spirit realm. The spirit realm is where the spirits can replenish their life force and recover from their last visit to the human realm.
Rules
Literacy is a must
No godmoding, spirits are varied in powers but not invincible at all.
A summoner can have a maximum of 5 summons, and not all of them are allowed to be the most powerful either.
Summoners have to play their contracted spirits.
All the way back to Tabbi's appartment, Leo's mind ran through what had happened with Iliana once again. It was probably the third time this week that he'd thought about it all, wondering where it had all gone so wrong and trying to see if there had been a place to change this outcome. He couldn't find anything though, and by the time he'd gotten through everything, they were inside the appartment.
Leo's gaze wandered around the building, it was a nice place. He paused at a picture of Tabbi with an older looking guy. He looked at it in detail, guessing that this must've been James.
He took the bags into the sitting room, leaving them beside the coffee table as he took a seat on the end of the sofa. He waited patiently for the tea to arrive, having pulled the thoughtful look from his face as Tabbi approached again. He looked at her with a slightly confused expression as she suddenly apologised, wondering what for. Then he realised how quiet he had been on the way home, guessing that she thought it was her doing. He shook his head lightly as he took the tea from the table and held it in both hands.
"It's not your fault. I overthink what happened. You have a right to know what you're dealing with..." He said, sighing a little as he settled in the chair some more, blowing the steam from his tea before taking a sip. Oh how he did the food from the spirit realm.
"If you really want to know, I killed my summoner." He said as he lowered his cup, still holding it tightly between both hands.
Avale turned her sight to the spirit wolf with subtlety, while it look like she wasn´t thinking anything, or at least not sharing her thoughts with her master, the spirit´s eye showed that she was against the idea of returning... and a lot. Well can´t be helped she and Avale acted more like close sisters than anything, Avale was sure that she would the same if her spirit were in any kind of problem not mattering what or who cause her problems. Something that the prideful warrior didn´t approve. Sighing a little she shook her head trying to rid of that kind of thoughts instead preparing some questions.
"So you said that you can enter that place without problems, is the owner that desperate? Or you "convinced" him to let you enter? Now that I remember you mentioned a wolf spirit. Has he... or she, been with you for a long time?" Here Avale stop as a laugh came in her mind, it was the proud warrior clearly mocking at her try to know Toya better. She sighed once more and changed the direction of the talk drastically as she lowered her sight "What kind of food would be better? Something light so we don´t throw up or something that will keep us up all the night?"
Tabbi almost dropped her tea. He'd killed his summoner? "I... I didn't want to know." She told him, "Honestly I just..." she set down her tea. "I wasn't prying or anything." she was feeling a little bad now. Well more than bad, nervous. Why had he killed her? Did he have an anger issue? She didn't want to know, and she wouldn't ask either. She could feel her composure faltering, although she was sure that she already looked a little shaken. "I better go get ready, and leave you to do the same."
She hurried towards her room with her clothes, her head spinning. What had she gotten herself into? She tried to calm herself down, knowing that if she got too stressed James would show up. She took a few deep breaths. She could deal with this. She began to get ready, slipping off her clothes and bra before pulling on the tight skirt and tube top. She slipped her feet into the heels then leant towards her mirror. She applied her make up and fluffed her hair. Messing it up and giving it volume with some back coming and hair spray. She sighed. Wondering if Leo would be ready.
Leo watched as Tabbi didn't react too well to what he said, noticing how she had gotten a little jittery before hurrying out of the room. He sighed heavily as the door to her room closed, slowly moving to put his tea back on the table too, the mug still pretty full. And this is why he didn't want to get involved with summoners. They asked questions, then didn't give you a chance to explain what had happened. Perhaps she would be less afraid of him if she'd stuck around long enough to hear the tale. Leo couldn't help but get the feeling that Tabbi was probably going to return with her James storming infront of her ready to beat him into the ground.
Hopefully, he would've been given a chance. Afterall, she had already pointed out that if he was really that bad he would've killed her already. Maybe he'd be able to proove that when she returned from her room - that was if she did. For all he knew, she could've been climbing out the window to avoid him. For now, he would go along with the original plan, and get ready. He took his clothes into the bathroom, planning on being as quick as possible. It didn't exactly take long to change his shirt and jeans. He took a moment to play about with his dark hair, spiking it outwards more. He then returned to the living room to put on the new boots he had too.
If Tabbi too much longer, he was going to start getting worried. But apparently girls took a long time to get ready, so he tried not to get too nervous. He was perched on the edge of the sofa, elbows rested on his knees and his chin leaning on his clasped hands.
~~~

Toya nodded a little as Avale asked about getting in tonight,
"Well, at first he didn't like the idea. But once I told him how he wouldn't have a business left if I didn't come; he soon came to his senses." He explained, stuffing his hands into his pockets as she continued to ask about his wolf spirit. Well, it was nice to know that they were going to be a little more than work partners, seeing as she was trying to get to know him enough to be called a friend.
"Gabriel's my second spirit, we've been partnered for a couple of years. Perhaps your wolf friend will know of him?" He said, smiling a little. "What about you, do you have any other spirits?" It was uncommon for summoners to just have on, even in their early years of being a summoner.

Avale sighed relieved watching how Toya ignored her lame question about the food. Instead answering her questions, the answer about the owner of the club made her narrow her eyes a little wondering how people acted only if their business would be disturbed. "Maybe living as an outcast is not that bad..." Well Maybe it was bad it depended in how people see it for Avale helping other was more than a job or a task.

And she couldn´t help but feel surprised when Toya answered her about his spirit telling her that he had two spirits under his service. Avale exchange a look with the wolf spirit once more before answering. "That may be I don´t know ... anything about her unless she tells me about it and as you can guess now she tells me only what I need to know and..." Once more Avale exchange a look with Eila, although the blue wolf looked calm a warning glare pierced her owner´s eyes , a look that seem more like a threat since she was bitting the knife harder than before. "Eila is my first and second friend, I mean that I also have another spirit, but he is more... reserved."

The only problem with this outfit was that she could not discretely hide a gun. She managed to slip on a thigh holster and tuck a dagger into it, the gun she had to put in her bag. Now that she had had time to calm down she realised that he wasn't dangerous to her. He hadn't tried anything yet had he? She sighed, rolling her shoulders as she walked out of the room and back into the living room. She gave him a soft smile as she tried to pretend that nothing had happened. They needed to get going, there really was no time to sit and talk. But she felt as if she needed to. The boy before her seemed too small to have done something so terrible on purpose, there had to be a decent explanation.

"We need to go" she said quietly. One hand fluffing her hair. "I'm sorry for how I reacted." she bit her lip.

---

Luma was walking towards the night club, her long white hair tumbling down her back. She wore a wine red mini-dress to match her eyes. The hawk spirit walked on one side of her, twitching with anticipating. An ancient samurai spirit walked on his other side with a wood spirit behind them. The small group entered the nightclub from the side. The samurai went in first, heading up the stairs to the owners office whilst Luma waited downstairs with the others. When the samurai returned he was holding a square photo with their next victim on it. He handed it to Luma. "This man killed three children." He told her. Luma felt her stomach tighten.

Leo had a look of guilt on his face as Tabbi came out of her room, relief washing over him as she gave a soft smile. He felt so bad for having for worrying her, not meaning to have shocked her so much. He should've came out with it a bit more gently. He hoped that he would get the chance to explain what had happened, not wanting to her to think that he was some wild animal spirit. She didn't seem too nervous now, though she didn't seem nearly as confident as she had been before she knew.

He looked her up and down, still disgusted about her outfit. He shook his head lightly as she apologised for her reaction. He didn't blame her at all,
"I thought you might've set James on me as soon as you found out..." He said, still looking rather guilty as he forced himself to his feet. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I just want you to know... I will never hurt you." Technically he hadn't hurt Iliana either, but still it was technically him that caused her death.
"I still hate your outfit by the way." He added, frowning at her slightly. "I hope you're going to wear a jacket on the way there,"

~~~
Toya listened carefully as Avale spoke of her spirits, noticing how the summoner and spirit exchanged looks. Perhaps there was more to their friendship than they were willing to tell him, though he understood that they might not have wanted to tell him everything within the first five minutes. Maybe they wanted to wait till they thought that he could be trusted till they told him anything.
He took a moment to check his watch, seeing that it was almost time to get inside the club. He saw a little sandwich shop,
"I think we'll have to make this a quick snack, the club opens up soon." He said, nodding his head towards the shop before leading the way. "Gabriel's pretty reserved too, he doesn't like to be bothered unless its absolutely necessary." He added with a nervous laugh, the thought of grumpy Gabriel sending a slight chill down his spine.
Tabbi smiled wider when he apologised and saw the sincerity in his eyes when he promised not to hurt her. Was it strange that she trusted him? "First off, I can deal with things without James." she told him, blushing a little, it was rare for summoners to have an independent streak in them so she felt a little stupid when admitting to it. She couldn't help but laugh when he mentioned her outift. Looking at her now with a look of affection she pulled an innocent face, "That's a shame, because I love yours."
She put her hands on her hips then put her foot up on the coffee table so that her short skirt was suddenly shorter. He'd mentioned a jacket and this was her reply. "Do you really think I need one?" her eyes a little wide she winked. Looking at her exposed legs. She laughed and dropped her leg. Then suddenly a familiar presence filled the room, making her jump a little. James had appeared behind her and was setting a leather trench coat around her shoulders.
"You are wearing a jacket." his voice a low growl.
She pouted as she slipped her arms into the knee length coat.
James, his slim hands on her shoulders, looked over her head to Leo. Looking unimpressed. "I leave you alone for an hour and you make friends with this." there was an undertone of distaste in his deep voice. His eyes darkened.
"Shut up, he's fine." She shrugged off his hold. "Leo this is James, James, Leo." She turned and fixed her spirit with a narrow glare. "Be nice."
Once more Avale breathed relieved at how Toya decided to change to change the talking, it wasn´t like Steam would get angry but he definitely was the type of spirit to interrogate any form of life before looking down on it until he was shown the opposite, something real hard according to her opinion since even now she was a lowly attempt of summoner instead of her owner.
The wolf glared to the sandwich shop with disgust before turning she turned to Avale and rised her front paws placing them in her summoner´s chest. "Avale I don´t need to tell you that if I sense any real danger I will come and end this charade... having your consent or not." Avale trembled as she grabbed the knife from the spirit´s mouth, she knew her good enough that she was deadly serious so she would need to be real careful to not piss the spirit wolf. As soon as the knife was taken the spirit lowered, threw a glare around her and headed to a near alley , she could be seen walking into it before fading completely.
"I hope she has the enough patience to let us work." Avale smiled to Toya after she reached him as if she was talking about the weather, there was not need to tell him that the wolf spirit was a walking time bomb. "So in your opinion how hard will this be? Hard enough to make us run in fear?"
Leo couldn't help but be a little surprised as she took the opportunity to point out that she didn't always need her spirit, something that wasn't very common; not when he used to be contracted anyway. Surely all this couldn't have changed so drastically over three years. He frowned as she decided to make a mockery from his dislike of her outfit, though he was glad that he was able to look the part well.
He wasn't the only one with a strong dislike of the outfit though, as it seemed her spirit pushed himself through to the human world just to make sure that she would wear a jacket.
He swallowed hard as James soon cast his dark eyes on him, giving him a cold glare. He disliked the way the spirit spoke of him, though it was not like he could tell the spirit to dare talk about him like that. Being banished, he couldn't pull rank on being a zodiac spirit anymore. He gingerly stuffed his hands into his pockets, nodding once towards James as Tabbi introduced them to eachother. He doubted that the spirit really wanted to have a conversation with him. He glanced at the girl as she told her spirit to be nice, his brow furrowing slightly as he wondered what the spirit would possible have done if he hadn't already been told.
Scrap that, Leo didn't want to know.
~~~

As Avale entered the place, Toya had already ordered a sandwich with most of the fillings inside the thick white slices. He might've looked small and scrawny, but he sure did like to eat. Possibly, he was going to need two sandwiches to fit all the fillings he'd asked for. He glanced over his shoulder to see that the spirit wolf was finally gone, feeling like he could finally relax a little. The wolf seemed to be a little... threatening, in the way she stuck by her spirit so closely, as if he wasn't trusted.
"It seems your wolf is very protective of you, treats you more like family than a summoner." He decided to point out as he turned his attention back to Avale, flashing her a small smile as she asked his opinion on the difficulty of tonight's task. He shrugged, "Not a clue. Could be diving into the deep end, with more than one spirit milling around the place. Lucky I have back up now though, eh?" He said, looking at her expectantly to order her own food.

Avale smiled calmly rubbing her chin with her right hand thinking in how to answer Toya, after a moment she moved her left hand trying to tell him to wait a moment, her appetite was growing as time passed and Toya´s food was just making her feel it stronger., she headed to order something to eat then she would answer Toya.

After a moment Avale returned with one sandwich, but it was made of four layers of ham. "This will be good for a change it has been some time since I ate in a town..." as Avale´s ended talking she started eating slowly, but lacking education no that she was eating with the mouth open or making all dirty, but it definitely felt wrong after some bites she left the sandwich in peace to watch Toya with honesty.

"Returning to what you say before... Eila and I have been together for some time now and she... well they are all I have in this world so we understand each other a lot, I think of her as a sister since she has a done a lot for me, even surpassing what she is supposed to do as my spirt. And now you won´t accept an I won´t get in your way, right? Don´t worry I will cover your back."

At the same moment Avale said "back" she smiled showing her teeth and narrowing her eyes, a little trick she had learn from Eila it was the same gesture a wolf would do to a cornered prey before taking it down, years of practice helped Avale to show it more as a threat than a funny face, then she continue eating the sandwich enjoying the flavor.

Tabbi could tell that James was hesitating. After seeing Leo and, she suspected, her outfit he was considering sticking around. "James you don't have to stay." She said as she stood facing him, although she could see the flicker of hurt in his eyes. It was like a father realising that he had to let his baby girl go out into the big wide world. He'd always been so like a father that she felt she needed her independence. "I'll be fine, honestly, Leo's here."

He gave Leo a look of disdain. "I know you'll be fine, I trust you. Just not him."

"I know James, but I do, he hasn't hurt me yet." James seemed to be considering it. "I can do this James."

"I know Tabbi," he bowed his head, catching her gaze, and she knew that he'd given up. "I'll be listening extra close though." he promised, then held his arms out to her as she moved into them. They hugged, his grip, she couldn't help but think, was like a bears. He pulled back then walked around her towards Leo. He made no move to acknowledge him. But that was to be expected of James. All he did was say this, "If you betray the trust she has given you..." He paused as Tabbi took his arm.

"What did I say James?" she snapped. "Bloody hell, just get out of here."

With a final hateful look at Leo he shifted back to the spirit world. Leaving the small room silent. Tabbi looked bashful, she fluffed her hair as she averted her gaze from Leo. How embarrassing. "I really am sorry about him." She apologised. "We really should go." she added, feeling awkward now. She headed to the front door, looking over her shoulder as she waited for Leo. "Sorry." she apologised again. "He really has no manners."

Leo was not exactly surprised by James's distrust. He didn't expect anything from the spirits, he'd been banished - so why could he be trusted. He'd killed once before, what said he couldn't do it again. It's not like he had anything to lose this time. Leo cursed himself for even thinking that thought, he was sure that he sounded as bad as any other banished spirit by thinking like that.
He was, however, surprised by Tabbi's trust in him. His surprise was even obvious, his eyes widened slightly as he watched her convince James to lay off. Though of course he could not get away without a word of warning.

He met James's dark eyes as he began his warning, though he wasn't given the chance to finish as Tabbi told him to go away again. He couldn't help but sigh with relief as the spirit disappeared to the other realm. He edged towards the door, feeling like his every move was being watched now. He assumed that he was allowed to leave his stuff here, and so didn't carry his bag with him. He doubted that the great boyfriend look would work with a little bag.

Leo shook his head lightly as she kept apologising for James.
"I was expecting much worse." He said, putting a small smile on his face. "Thanks for standing up for me. I can't exactly argue against them and their views after what I did."
He held the edge of the door as she opened it, opening it wider for her to pass through first.
"Perhaps in this case I'll be allowed to earn that trust back...?"

~~~
Toya listened to Avale as she spoke of her spirits as her family. He understood what she meant, having heard other summoners speaking in a similar way about their own spirits. After that though, he was confused. He didn't quite understand whether she was telling him stop asking questions, or assuming what he might think. Either way, he thought it best not to comment, just incase it split their partnership. He was glad to hear that she was still going to go with him, eventhough he had no idea of the danger level of the situation. He guessed it couldn't be too bad. He'd dealt with spirits before, and those times he hadn't had another summoner's help. Perhaps this time it would be even easier.
He was still a little surprised as she spoke of how it was nice to eat in a town for a change,
"So did you and your spirits hunt for food and stuff when on your travels with them?" He asked as he finished a great mouthful, still having three halves left to go yet. He was curious about her way of life. He'd always packed food for himself when they went from town to town, only having resorted to hunting when he was too low on food to survive to the next town.
Avale was ready to give a real big bite to the sandwich when she heard Toya´s question, with a slow moment she raised her head while placing one finger on her chin thinking not in the answer, but more in how to say it. Yes she was used to live in the outside, but she needed to have delicacy with the answer after all not all the people was that compressive and her way of living was not going to be a hindrance in her meeting with Toya.
"Yes... hunting, fishing, tracking, gatherings herbs, fresh fruits or vegetables and following small animals to bigger prizes. In the beginning they would move with me showing me how to survive, as I said before I only have them, after some time we started to split up to gather more... of course Eila always got more or better stuff so we ate it after being grateful. That was close..."
Avale looked again to her sandwich while congratulating herself for saying other thing instead of raw this time, still had in her mind the face that Toya showed when she mentioned the state of the meat before, most of the times making fire in the open was a luxury they couldn´t have.
"Your turn, you look used to... well this..." Avale opened her arms pointing the whole place in which they were eating "How can you afford it? I apologize if it sounds rough, but I found it amazing most of the times people don´t pay for the help or if they do they give few."
Tabbi actually laughed, "Earn his trust? You don't earn James' trust, you earn his tolerance." Tabbi went out into the hall and closed the door behind them. She led them outside and pulled her coat tight around herself, glad that James had made her wear it. "Whatever you did." she said to Leo, "It doesn't reflect the person you are now. I don't trust you entirely, but i trust you enough to get me through this night." she sighed, sort of wishing she was wearing her hoodie so she could pull the hood up. But it would just ruin her hair anyway. She kept close to Leo as she walked down the street, making her way to the club that was at least a ten minute walk away. "Don't think badly of James though, he will show up if there is any trouble." she promised. "He probably goes all rigid every time I say his name, you know just encase I'm calling him, I used to piss him off when I was younger, I'd just keep repeating his name when I didn't need him." she smiled.
"Whatever," Leo replied, whatever he had to prove that he wasn't so bad, he'd do it. All he needed now was a spirit to grate on at him all the time. He frowned a little as Tabbi continued to talk about her trust of him. He didn't know whether to think this a good thing or not. Maybe he should tell her the story of what happened when they finished up at the club. Then maybe she'd be able to make her mind up whether to trust him fully or not. For now, he'd just have to hope that he was still in her good books.
He couldn't help but smile as she spoke of how she used to annoy James by calling out for him over and over when he wasn't needed. Perhaps there was more than just a summoner/spirit relationship here. This sounded more like a family bond. It was nice to hear of those kind of bonds between spirits and humans. Unfortunately, his was not like that.
"Our constant calling was never without reason," He sighed, his smile fading a little as he stuffed his hands into his pockets as he kept in step with Tabbi. He doubted that she'd want to know about his old life, but he continued anyway. She knew he was banished now, so he was allowed to reminice outloud; he decided.
"Aries was often called upon to entertain the men the flocked after our summoner," He said, his tone showing how much he disapproved of this notion. "Aries was never as hard headed and strong as her Zodiac makes out. Her soft nature was often abused."
~~~

Toya listened, intrigued by this way of life. He'd never thought of living like that, he guessed he'd lived too much of a sheltered life in his younger years. He'd always lived with his mother, learning the ways of a summoner through her. He guessed he'd picked up many of his living habits from that lifestyle. He shrugged a little as she wanted to know how he could afford to live like this. There wasn't that much to it.
"My mother was a summoner too, she gave me the money to start my travels. While in town, I do the odd menial task that does not require help from spirits - normal jobs. With minimal spending, I can afford to get myself to the next town." He said, picking up another quater of his sandwich.

"Eating like this is a treat." He pointed out, "As is sleeping in an inn."

From this he hoped she'd understand that he did camp out when in between towns, and instead of hunting, he just bought enough supplies to get him through his travel to the next town.

Re: [OOC] Untamed Spirits

I'm kind of new here so the submitting page is still a bit beyond me, so i was wondering if it would be alright to post my application/character sheet here.

Re: [OOC] Untamed Spirits

Summoners have Spirits to fight with. The spirits are the ones who might have magic to use, depending on what they are and how strong they are etc.
Summoners can have a weapon blessed by a spirit though so that they have something strong to fight with, if that's any help?

Re: [OOC] Untamed Spirits

This sounds really exciting. Can a summoner use magic as a weapon?
