The Grassroots Tournament
Round 1: Frey D. Tensai vs Aiyanna vs Adrian

Match Start: June 6th, 2011 @ 9:00PM
Match End: July 5th, 2011 @ 9:00PM

Post Response Limit: 4 days
First Post: Frey D. Tensai
Second Post: Aiyanna
Third Post: Adrian
(Repeat that order for the duration of the battle. If one of you does not post when it's your turn in 4 days, the next fighter may post).

Stage Description:
The raging volcanic planet of Alzipen hosts the group battle. On a particular mountainside (non-active, thankfully), the combatants start three hundred meters east of a five hundred foot cliff, and start on a ten degree grade which moves up going east (aka if you roll a ball it'll go down the cliff). Overlooking the scene about half a mile away is an oozing volcano connected to the mountain, which provides an interesting backdrop, along with a split river of lava, both three feet deep and four feet wide. The rock surface between these rivers is approximately forty feet wide at any given point, and occurs three hundred fifty meters east of the cliff (it starts to the right of the contestants).

May the strongest grass blade emerge tallest.

Aiyanna flitted into the combat zone with the remnant shimmer of the teleportation systems in the Lobby. She took stock of her surroundings first, pulling up several icons into a HUD within her field of vision. The T-65c Combat skin was outfitted for engagements in environments such as this, albeit Military engagements. Quietly she stood, letting all her combat systems come online.

As the numbers scrolled across her field of vision, she surveyed the area for her combatants, with the environmental analysis completed, she looked on and awaited the arrival of her opponent.

"Fray Tensai and Adrian... I'll need to analyze my opponents and devise a likely tactical solution." She said, checking her suit's equipment, and allowing slender fingertips to slip around the hilt of her beam sword. As magnetic clasps released, the weapon ignited, extending a blade roughly five feet in length of shimmering blue hue. Plasma matrices enveloped in a magnetic tube provided a sharp blade to cut through her opponent. She checked her grenades after several moments, four plasma grenades and four thermite grenades, all securely clasped through magnetic clamps to her belt. It was then she slid into a combat post, lowering her stance and bringing her feet apart just outside her shoulders. Her arms moved to her front and both hands clasped the hilt of her blade as she swung it slightly from side to side. So far there seemed to be no sign of Frey Tensai, in Aiyanna's mind, perhaps he had been running late? She had hoped for a good fight, but also inwardly hoped that Fray would be disqualified.
Nip it in the bud.

Adrian arrived, Christine safely in place as a necklace, his gloves smoothly snug around his hands. Enough time had passed since he first wove the arcane seal, and it had charged nicely so far, but those particular thoughts were properly held at bay as he turned to look at his surroundings. Another already present, he worried if he were late, as this match was a free-for-all by the books, but by the look of the one in the short distance away no combat had taken place just yet.

About them, the elements stood tall and healthy, many options were able to be taken, but the cane in his left hand felt extremely out of place for any measure of assistance. A smile curled across the paleness of his lips, the bulk of words, works, tactics and the fold fell atop another one by one, orderly and according to plan. He noted the stance of the woman ahead; she readied herself it seemed, but something beyond that drank upon his mind: she was tooā€¦ comfortable? Or maybe that was the failure in his observation, many were not fully at rest in places such as this, or directly adjacent to a life-or-death interaction; something was different, something was off, but in the end all he had to do was remove her from the field as to claim victory, seeing as one of the opponents never showed, or perhaps arrived by hidden somewhere in the masses.

Words were not important, arrogance was feeble, sanity was all the more fickle, and Adrian himself was far too ready to end this and proceed to the latter rounds. Tipping his hat, in the usual polite manner he implemented, the seal upon his hand released a brightly, heavenly stature of light. It swirled about his hand, soon finding a material form, focused beyond the former charged state of the seal it lay within moments before. It extended, reduced in girth, until a very obvious staff illuminated the short-diameter of the two. Despite the fact he could only manipulate one element at a time, and this manifestation occupied the slot, he doubted heā€™d need another any time soon.

ā€œShall we, maā€™am?ā€ His words were smooth, unscathed by imperfection, and able of strength to produce his normal style. ā€œSooner the better, at least.ā€
The limitation of modern complexity is stretched simplicity and applied misdirection.

Aiyanna kept her stance with her blade fully ignited, it's five foot blade of shimmering energy retracted to four feet, she could adjust the blade at will, and as she watched him manipulate the arcane seals, she squinted, perhaps she was blinded by the light? Perhaps not, as she squinted text began to flit across her field of vision, highlighting various sections of his body, vision highlighting major arteries, veins, a pumping heart, bone and major organs. She was scanning him and drawing a proverbial map of his entire body, she was planning where exactly to hit.

Her vision highlighted tendons in the arms and legs, tendons that would need to be severed to render her opponent out of the battle. She was devising her strategy at lightning speeds as the Meta-cognitive processor in her mind clicked and clocked it's information.

Magical energy readings displayed as numbers across her field of vision, much like a scouter. "Mana energies... Impressive power levels, I may have to utilize everything at my disposal... this may actually be a challenge" Several commands were sent to the suit's internal computer, and a helmet threw itself over her head and face from the suit's back, an opaque plazen-glass visor closing over her face, as additional holographic screens flickered on. Atmospheric readings, barometric readings, and external temperature.

"This is my only offer, you may forfeit with your life and limbs intact, or we may begin, naturally you're here... but I figured I would be polite and offer either way, you may walk away, or have at me." Her words were crisp through the suit's vocoder. She relied on the engineering of her body and the suit's durability to see her through.

"Utilize a defensive strategy, allow him to come to you, disable, and finish." The suit's computer calculated. Aiyanna took the advice, and was unmoving, she brought her passive defenses online, and the suit flickered, a white flicker of energy roughly an inch outside from her form, a form fitting barrier of some sort, a passive defense shield. Upon diagnostic screens in the corner of her vision, a bar displayed the shield's integrity, a brief flash of the icon, and the bar began to slowly grow.

Other then subtle changes to her suit, her words, and it's helmet and shields engaging, she did not move.

Adrianā€™s smile held clear and easy with only a momentā€™s pause to follow in response to his opponentā€™s words. Options were provided, an unusual stance in most competitive appliances in the modern world. He noted this with great precision, but in his silence his only true reply was the weaving of another seal. The staff of light that shimmered so brilliantly in his hand illuminated the area, shadows washing the smaller regions behind larger objects, angles ever-present in the romantic bond of light and physical presence. In full control of his implement, mind, body, he nodded finally towards the female. ā€œHonored for such a lucrative proposition, but I seek much more than an arrival and a departure of self-loss here, so please forgive any of my actions.ā€

He absorbed the characteristics of her stance, of her as a whole, and welcomed her delay of action with much pleasure and much anticipation as he proceeded to weave another sigilā€”one of swift shifts in mana implementation. As the pause continued however he noticed several other ways to approach the start of the match, ways to use what lay beneath her, methods to devour her and that redundant of a stance. ā€œI hold no favor for fair game, perhaps,ā€ he mused to himself as he took a step back. The staff amplified in hue, the twirling motion of the particles about to enable him sight still set accordingly, but it was not until the physical release of the manifestation, allowing it to rotate about him, that the first, true tactic came into mind: simple obliteration.

Another step back, then another, curious if she would catch onto his little trick and even more so if she would even bother to consider it a threat once realization came to.

Soon words poured from between his twisted, pale lips: words beyond language, beyond normal understanding, beyond even his own sense of discretionā€”the seal grew and grew in power, charging solely by the nigh egotistical sensation and the arcane substance spilling into his own method of power, of control, and no sooner did he take another step back that a small, soft segment of the staff released from the whole in a blinding speed towards the figure before him, aiming to pierce the ā€˜foeā€™ with an immense intensity of heat and magical power! He took careful note, however, should she not be as normal as suspectedā€¦ his luck was oddly stiff like that.

Mana energies began to spike as he prepared his arcane seals. Her suit began to pick up on each and every small blip in magical energies, analyzing it's nuances and it's subtleties. She relied on the powered energy shield, which was designed to absorb both kinetic and energy impacts. The magical and kinetic forces of the projectile that was prepared against her. The shields maintained their composure as she analyzed the magical frequencies of her foe. "Mana.. I brought EMP grenades... i'll have to improvise." She said quietly, as energy spikes persisted, a proverbial scouter.

Then the attack was launched, Aiyanna didn't take the time to evade or block, rather she seemed to take the full brunt of the projectile hurled at her, upon her HUD a flash was picked up, and the bar displaying the shields strength seemed to flicker. The shields took the brunt of the attack lodged against her, the skin tight barrier flickered a bright white, shimmered for a moment, then subsided. Amongst the flurry of magical energies, and the dust. Aiyanna seemed to still stand there, unharmed, though her defense shields had absorbed the full of the attack, and collapsed. She was certain it would be a matter of time before they recharged, and provided her with another defense.

It was Aiyanna's turn.

With a subtle twitch in the synthetic muscles in her leg, she leaped to a great height above her foe, with blazing alacrity she did a mid-air flip, and allowed her own targeting systems to mesh up with the suit's. During her swift, fluid motion, she unclasped a Thermite grenade from the magnetic clamp at her belt. Compressed high-temperature propylene oxide gel with high-viscosity additives designed to provide a burn temperature of ten thousand degrees was prepared for ignition. The fuse was lit, with five seconds of the fuse as she calculated the time it would take for the grenade to leave her hand, and detonate upon impact against her target.

She flipped a small sliding switch back, and the grenade beeped loudly, three beeps signifying that the weapon was active, the chrome colored, canister shaped device was cooked for all of three seconds, with two seconds left to throw and strike her intended target.

Targeting systems locked onto her foe standing before her, and with a swift motion of arm and wrist in mid-air as she flipped, she hurled the grenade towards her foe with what strength her arm could muster, sending the canister shaped device hurling towards her opponent.

A bright shimmer glazed the area for a short while, but in that short while Adrian released the full extent of the gathered magical sigil and poured it into the staff of light within his grasp. He wasnā€™t sure of what occurred, nor did he really take the time to care, his opponent wasnā€™t in sight just yet, but he proceeded with the initial tactic and the staff of light expanded in a mighty flash, zipping through the short distance between his position and that of his opponents. However, before he could manipulate the fabrics just right, he noticed the physical presence of his opponent leap into the air, and so the light followed with immense speed, to form itself in full rotation about the target!

ā€œTsk, Tsk,ā€ he expressed as the once staff of light twirled at such ungodly speeds, the heat from such focused elemental substances beyond that of mortal survival capability. Given that she had survived through the first approach, he was sure she would stand the heat within the orb, but his joy and hope in victory was that gravity would take her effect and the opponent would be sliced by such vicious ā€˜beam-likeā€™ power of the lightā€™s rotation. It was enough to melt every fabric of his own being in seconds, he wasnā€™t sure of hers.

Adrian had an excessive amount of control over the gathered light, he understood this well, but he had subliminal questions on whether or not he should release his grasp on the element to pick another up. Although he could use the elements without too much effort, he would have to wait a bit more to have such control over them as he does now.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby barney_fife on Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:27 pm

Aiyanna managed a short and soft chuckle as she kicked on the inertial dampeners built into the suit to counteract the force of gravity, the resulting force was levitation, even as the magical energies spiraled around her, she counted on the sheer overwhelming ordinance about to be released on her foe to disrupt the coherency of the spell and cause it to vanish entirely. Her suit's systems continued to function nominally despite the heat and pressure exerted against it, trin-duranthium was designed to withstand immense kinetic and thermal energies. The suit was tested in the ten million degree furnace of a one hundred kiloton thermonuclear explosion. The suit was not about to wane against this spell, unless the power was kicked up considerably. And so, it's metals and it's high tech polymers stood defiantly against the light, as status bars and numbers scrolled across Aiyanna's field of vision, all of this happened in nanoseconds, like slow motion as the canister shaped grenade careened towards it's target, passing relatively unharmed through the wall of light, as the light seemed to lack any physical properties, though heated for a moment, the weapon did not detonate.

Through the orb of light, the Grenade sailed towards it's target, within six inches of striking Adrian, the weapon detonated, sending a viscous burning slurry of propylene oxide gel in all directions, it would saturate clothing and skin alike, burning at ten thousand degrees, the gel was slathered in all directions, likely generously coating Adrian as he was in close proximity to the weapon, the Propylene oxide gel would boil away blood and tissues, immediately resulting in third degree burns all over the body, especially in areas where the gel made contact. It would be nearly impossible to survive this grenade without any type of full body protective suit, and the gel wouldn't be all this grenade packed.

The thermobaric properties from the detonation put in an added kick, as the oxygen in the air was ignited, the entire area within twenty feet of the grenade was instantly raised to ten thousand degrees fahrenheit as the thermobaric gel ignited the surrounding air, the resulting pressure from the shockwave would damage hearing and cause a concussive shock.

Aiyanna's suit was resilient, and so it's trinnium and duranthium construction allowed the composition of the suit to pass through the razor sharp magical energies, as they tried to cut along the superhard and superdense composite alloys, it scored and scorched the metals and polymers, causing moderate damage to the superstructure of the suit. This was broadcast in several red icons along the map of the suit, the close proximity to the thermite blast caused several portions of the suit to be covered in burning thermite, but with a specialized life support, it's user was largely unharmed. Aiyanna laughed, and with inertial dampeners kicked off, she fell to the ground, allowing the dense highly advanced armors take the brunt of the magical attack, should her foe survive the slurry of super-heated gel and ignited oxygen.

"Mana won't save you, it never beats technology." She mocked.

With the detonation of the grenade, and the thermobaric shockwave washing over her foe, heating the surrounding air to thousands of degrees. Aiyanna was certain that this fight had come to a conclusion, as the dust began to settle, she ignited her beam sword and checked the status of her suit, Several icons displayed red on her field of vision, displaying that her suit had taken minor damage in several sections.

"Time to finish this." She said as she got in a stance, having moved through the magical orb unharmed, her suit withstanding what heat the orb could apply to the suit, she set her targeting systems, and set her feet in a lunge forward, Should her opponent be on the ground from the sheer heat and thermobaric pressure differentials she would silently stand over him, eyes down on her foe. "Your magic could not save you, and so... time to say good night.. I offered you a chance to walk from this unharmed, and now.. you are a dead man." She said quietly, before she brought the full girth of her beam sword to stab into his chest, aiming to pierce the heart resulting in death to likely be instantaneous, she did this, before stomping on her foe's head, to crush the skull and splatter brains all over the ash covered ground.

Should her opponent have somehow, miraculously managed to stay upright during the thermobaric shockwave. Aiyanna would begin her attack, lunging forward and bringing a broad horizontal swing with her beam sword, intending on landing a slice against her opponent from the right shoulder, down in a diagonal direction. Her aim was to pierce the heart, and severely damage all major organs along her foe's body, the superheated plasma blade of her sword would likely make short work of any clothing or skin on her foe, and her quick agile movement would make dodging nearly impossible, but should he dodge to the right, she would follow up with a sweeping kick to trip her foe, should her foe dodge to the left, she would follow up with a spin and another horizontal slash against her foe, should the evasion be upwards, she would leap with him, and intend on bringing the girth of her blade directly into her opponent's chest.
