Introduction
Babylonia, year 427.
Continent of Begrace.
Era of the Constancian.
Babylonia is in an era of war: the three nations of Jiness, Eur'kahl, and Amengard are all in conflict, their armies fronting the plains of Begrace. For seven years the conflict has been enduring, bringing about the suffering of nations, and their peoples. Many lives are lost daily to the cause of the Chimera's War. The lands are drunk with blood, and the air whispers in battle cries and the ringing of steel against steel. Buried in the ground as food to the earth, many soldiers lay in death, waiting for their spirits to be lifted up into Amancia, although they could just as easily scale the piles of bodies on the battlefield to get there. Many men cast their lives away for the war......
It started seven years ago, in Amengard. The Royal Highness, King Edwynn Deruke Constancian XII, "The Chimera", was alone in his bed chambers one stormy night. He had tried many times in vain to allow slumber to overtake him, but he could not for the love of him shake his uneasiness: he felt it in his dreams. He saw the faces in his darkest nightmares, heard the cackling laughter. He was terrified, but of what he did not know.
He undertook the council of his advisor, Roke, a powerful mage. Roke told the king his recurring dreams were premonitions, and that he must warn people of what he saw. However, that same night the king passed away in his sleep.
It was discovered early in the morning that the king had been assassinated; poisoned. Under order of the Nine Regal Judges, the King's servants were all tried as conspirators and executed. They then testified that Roke was also a conspirator, but he fled the castle before he could be tried. The only heir to the throne was fourteen year old Prince Edwynn Deruke Constancian XIII. However, under the Decree of Rule, any heir to the Amengard throne under age of seventeen was declared unfit for rule, and the king's oldest Judge had to claim the throne until said heir became of age.
A month later, there was a late night attempt at the prince's life as well, however the assassin had been caught, confessing his allegiance to the Republic of Jiness. The assassin was executed, and the prince was sent away from his kingdom with a large guard force to keep him safe from any more attempts at his life. The following three months, the Judges declared on war with Jiness, and the Amengard armies were rallied and marched toward the republic's capital.
When Jiness got word that Amengard was approaching, given the option to surrender or die, they too readied themselves for war, enlisting the aid of their neighboring Kingdom of Eur'kahl. However, Eur'kahl was at a disagreement with Jiness, stating that their king had yet to repay them for their assistance in the Conflict of B'ganon. Eur'kahl then excommunicated their alliance, and started up a third-party conflict with both nations, to which they were already hostile towards Amengard.
From his throne, Head Regal Judge Gamen 'de Antio contemplated the outcome of this war. His plans were going smoothly.
He had to use what power he had to gain full advantage in the war: increased taxes, labor, and drafting of soldiers was issued to all cities and towns swearing allegiance to Amengard. Able-bodied oldest sons and fathers were taken from their homes to fight for their rulers.
The world was falling into the darkness.
Seven years later, the battlefields are littered with bodies and drenched in blood. Swords were driven into the ground to mark the no-man's lands across the earth. Airships and armadas were called in to dispatch opponents.
All the while, an eerie darkness steadily settled over the lands. It chilled men to their very souls, and no one understood what it was. But it was malicious, and it frightened everyone who felt it.
