Our Esteemed Master welcomes you to his newly rebuilt abode in the North of England. The pay shall be good, food and lodgings will be provided as per usual for this kind of employment. Should you wish to accept this most gracious offer, please RSVP to the enclosed address.

Work has been hard to come by lately, and for whatever reason your characters are among those who have been hit the hardest. Some of you may come from poor families, and need well-paid jobs to support them now that your parents are getting old. Perhaps you were born rich, but now you find yourself living on the streets. Whatever your goals may be– re-entry into posh society, finding a significant other, supporting loved ones or just making a living– this letter seems heaven sent.

It appeared under mysterious circumstances, on your doorstep or stuffed under your pillow at the homeless shelter. It bears nothing but your name on the envelope, and the message from Theodorus Cherrywood within. On further inspection you also find the address to Blackford Manor inside– apparently near a place called Hob's bay. Never mind the mystery for now, though, you have a job offer! And such a prestigious one too, with food and lodgings, and promises of a better future.

HOB'S BAY

Hob's bay lives up to its name from first glance. To the untrained eye it almost looks as though the fishing village has climbed out of the ocean– houses clinging to the side of the cliff, in constant danger of falling. With the exception of a run-down train station, you see little evidence of it having much contact with the outside world. Some of you note, perhaps with anger, that there does not seem to be a church in the village. The villagers keep themselves to themselves, scoffing as you ask for directions. In fact it takes several tries before you find someone willing to talk to a stranger, and even then it is likely the old drunk sat outside the village pub. When he finally understands what you want, he laughs in your face in the way only an old drunk can– spit and teeth threatening to sprout in every direction. However, he does tell you the way to the local delivery man, who is apparently the only man willing to go near the house. Down wide roads of cobblestone, you find the driver preparing his coach already.

"I was told you'd arrive," he says. "Get in."

From there it is a bumpy road, hard to see as the sun goes down beyond the horizon. For a moment, the fields are bathed in brilliant red, and then night falls like you've never seen it before. As the carriage pulls to a halt, you step out on shaky legs, thanking the driver for his service. How might you contact him if you ever need to get back to the village, you ask?

"There's only one way back from Blackford Manor," the driver tells you. "And that's in a bleemin' casket."

With that final farewell, he leaves you standing in the looming shadow of the manor, where your new life is about to begin.

At your destination, you can finally gaze up at the newly renovated abode of Zedkiel Blackford. However, the renovations cannot have happened as recently as Mr Cherrywood insists, because the house already looks run down and dirty from the outside. Large vines and runaway plants block your path as you make your way to the front door. The gardener will surely have a lot of work ahead of them. Our roleplay begins on your second day of service, but first let's deal with some of the basics...

THE ROAD THERE
Part of the property, but none of your concern. Until the water comes and traps you at the house, of course.

OUTSIDE
Includes a garden, a small family cemetery, and a chapel.
Needs: A gardener

CELLAR
Includes facilities for storage: a separate wine cellar.
Needs: A stocktaker

GROUND FLOOR
Includes the grand foyer, kitchen, a great hall, a dining hall, a ballroom and a conservatory.
Needs: A cook, two kitchenhands.

1ST FLOOR
Includes the servant's quarters, eight guest bedrooms (three of which have a terrace, six en-suite), a library, closets and bathrooms.
Needs: Two maids or manservants

2ND FLOOR
A music room, a billiard room, a drawing room, a study, and an armoury.
Needs: Two maids or manservants

ATTIC
You have never been allowed into the attic, although you are fairly certain it exists. There are these doors from the 2nd floor that refuse to open if you try. Sometimes in the night you hear noises from there– like something moving, rolling even, upstairs. But why are you up so late? Get back to bed!
Needs: Nobody.

No godmodding, Mary Sues, etc.
Keep in mind this IS a horror roleplay, so expect your characters to be hurt or traumatised.
I'd like to keep posts above 300 words.
Please reserve spots in the OOC. Reservation will be re-opened unless you submit a character, or a WIP, within 48 hours.
Be active in the RP and in the OOC chat. People will be left behind and inactive characters will be murdered.

Loosely based on the events of Blackford Manor and Don't Open That Trap Door, with some elements taken from the Shadow over Innsmouth, this RP deals with the experiences of the newly hired staff of a manor that seems to be hiding too many secrets to count. I will be welcoming input from players on what they think should happen, while reserving the rights to drive the major plot points myself. If someone is interested in the role of Co-GM I am also more than open to that, as it would be nice to have someone to share the responsibility with.

This will be a horror RP, and though I intend to follow this site's rule may be adult themes, violence and other nice things. Please DO NOT JOIN unless you are absolutely certain that you can handle it. I made this RP with horror enthusiasts in mind, and I don't want to upset anyone. Anything you feel I should mention, don't hesitate to PM me or post in the OOC.

Location: Dining Hall to Kitchen
Interacting With: Nancy and Maids

Following breakfast, Clementine joined the maids as Nancy led them to the dining room. Though her primary duty was cleaning the kitchen, it wouldn't hurt to know where the dining room was. She might be requested to come back and help out should her efforts be needed.

The dining hall was quite a sight. It was grande and beautiful, yet a bit intimidating. She'd seen plenty of dining halls before given her past life, but this one just seemed a bit creepy. Perhaps it was the dark furniture, the large fireplace, or the dreary weather outside that made her feel this way. She looked around, taking it all in. Her facial expression barely changed as she did so.

Her attention turned back to the maid leading them as she asked if anyone had any questions. Clementine had quite a few questions. Who were the guests that were coming? Other wealthy civilians? Where was Master Blackford? Could there really be only a few staff members that weren't new in this large manor? Why did the man next to Nancy not speak? How had she been selected for this role? How had they even found her after she'd fled after knocking some sense into that pervert cook? She would not ask these questions to another human just yet. First, she might as well wait and see if some would be answered for her. Until then, she'd just do her job and hope nobody bugged her too much.

Clementine shook her head in response to Nancy's question and gave a small nod to the maids before leaving the dining room. It was time to go and clean the kitchen. She was looking forward to the mind numbing work of sorting and cleaning. A small smile formed on her face as she walked down the hall, glancing at the walls as she passed them. She was soon in the kitchen, where Mr. Jones and Miss Nina would be if they weren't already. Hopefully there were no creatures or unwanted plant life lurking within the kitchen. Clementine did not want to deal with catching mice or removing mold. Both were quite annoying.
