Introduction
http://shalazar.freeforums.net/
It seems no work of Man's creative hand,
by labor wrought as wavering fancy planned;
But from the rock as if by magic grown,
eternal, silent, beautiful, alone!
Not virgin-white like that old Arcadian shrine,
where erst Athena held her rites divine;
Not saintly-grey, like many a minster fane,
that crowns the hill and consecrates the plain;
But golden as if the blush of dawn,
that first beheld them were not yet withdrawn;
The hues of youth upon a brow of woe,
which Man deemed old three thousand years ago,
match me such marvel save in desert clime,
a golden sand half as old as time. **
Emanating from the epic landscape of desert sands, harems, and walled cities,
from mountains, jungles, and black ash of a volcano,
comes the stories untold.
But tis the desert shows you nothing; you must find everything.
It is said we are connected by an ancient calling,
One that echoes through the ages... Destiny.
Our destiny changes with our thought;
we shall become what we wish to become, do what we wish to do,
when our habitual thought corresponds with our desire.
For each man is the architect of his own destiny.
Our World
Is it a fantasy story from a Book…?? Possibly
… or the story from the mind of the beholder…??
Either way… Sha’Lazar, has risen from the hallowed literary darkness… to become a mythical microcosm of terra firma, with various shades of sand and stone; a world portrayed as a flat disk floating in the great ocean of unknown. The personified body of water surrounding the circular surface of this planet is the begetter of all life… and possibly of all the gods.
Alas, tis written that some men have taken ship and traversed the whole wide ocean, and crossed from this side of the world to the other, and that thus even the inhabitants of that distant region are descended from the gods that Sha’Lazar serve…
That is to say, where the sun rises and sets to us…. indeed, it is affirmed by those scholarly travelers, that our terra firma is suspended within the concavity of the heavens, and that it has much ado about nothing to the other side of this spherical form they call Urth… hence they say that the part that is beneath us is also inhabited. And that the other side of the earth is not bare of water; nor does it immediately follow that it is peopled.
But we are assured that our land, comprising the mainland of the Sha’Lazar as a continent, the island of Red Hamada, small, but nonetheless important, and numerous smaller islands have been blessed by the gods… as we live the Legends of Terra Incognita— "Legends of the Unknown Land". There is no probability, that any other detached body of land, of nearly equal extent, will ever be found, therefore, it remains an expressive point of the geographical prominence of this land, and of its situation upon our planet; it has antiquity to recommend it; and, having no reference to another realm, appears to be less objectionable than any other which could have been selected.
Its varied shades of blues and greens, surrounds the continent, and goes from the land until the horizon touches the sky. Many sear that one sailing that far would fall off the edge and perish, whilst others vow to prove there is life beyond Sha’Lazar’s horizon.
A great desert, with golden sand seas sparsed by vegetation, pearly spotted oases like Ghadames and Ghat, mountains, and dry valleys. The Acasus is green only where there is water, otherwise it is yellow, white, beige, caramel, gold, brown, or red. Water sources in the Acasus include several water wells, lakes, underground tables, and rain. Gheltas (water wells) in the Acacus desert are clearly marked on the Amir’s Acacus map, like Aminanegh, Talwawat, Sughd and Abankur. Average rainfall is between 0 and 25 mm per annum; scarce to most, but brings the valleys back to life to sustain some desert shrubs and bushes, even bringing some ancient creatures from long sleeps. There are several lakes in the desert, mostly in the Kalal Sand Sea. These are part of, or left over from, the ancient giant lake. Regardless, the source of this water is usually considered a gift from the gods… but more scientific reasoning remains yet unsolved.
• The Solan – a belt of drier grasslands and acacia thorntree plains, lies to the north, between the Sudvanna and the Acasus.
To the south the forest-grassland mosaic is a transition zone between the semi-arid Sudvanna and the Ras'ouda moist forests.
• The Fira Jabal - rigid mountains at the most northern tip of the Canas, with huge lone-standing rock formations, stone plateaus, and gravel plains.
• The Itharit - with its central interior filled with lush green trees and shrubbery, exotic animals, and exciting new possibilities. Unknown and unexplored… Magical and mystical… with dense jungles abounding with gorgeous orchids, thick undergrowth, and twisting animal trails below a majestic canopy…. strange lost civilizations and vegetation covered cities, lost lands filled with prehistoric creatures…. natives who are mostly superstitious and cannibalistic, but occasionally a proud race of noble native warriors could be found within the jungle. The beasts which inhabit the savage, yet poetically-related jungle appear familiar in physical description but are endowed with emotional traits that are more pure and directed than any human.
• The Sudvanna – a stretch of land between the northern Hanassim and the southern Green Canas, is characterized by the coexistence of trees and grasses. Much of the Sudvanna region is a Muwafaq, where useful trees are spared from cutting, while sorghum, maize, millet or other crops are cultivated beneath.
This area covers over a third of the continent and ranges from black sand deserts to ferocious and dangerous mountain ranges. The Saneebal Jabal mountain range edges the entire southern tip of the continent.
• The Numareef Volcano – is located north-east of the Saneebal Jabal. It rumbles and spits forth black ash, as a reminder of life’s volatility.
• The Black Suhaidah – (black sands) is the black volcanic ash field of Numareef that is between 50 and 100 kilometers wide.
• The Ras'ouda Forests – lie to the far southern tip of the continent, and ranges northward, deep into the Green Canas, where it mixes with the jungles of the inner belt.
The island contains lush forests, harsh mountain ranges, and stone plateaus; and has been the site of numerous bloody battles.
