"The pale princess of a palace cracked."

THE PROFILE

Name: Asherah Koe

Nickname: Ash, Princess(a nickname she doesn’t particularly like, but she earned it for having unusually high expectations about her standard of living. One comment about the lack of silk sheets on board and she was branded high-maintenance.)

Title: The Midnight Mage

Species: Majnun

Race: Upper Class

Visual Age: Mid-twenties

Factual Age: 149

Gender: Female

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Role: Second Mate/Merchant

Class: Mage

Specialization: True Magi

Theme Song: The End is the Beginning is the End, by Smashing Pumpkins

THE DIAGNOSTICS

Hair: Asherah’s hair is a bright flaming orange that, when hit by the sun just right, gives the illusion that her head is engulfed in flames.

Facial Hair: N/A

Eyes: Her eyes seem to shift like the many colors of the sunset giving off hues of deep red, muddy orange, and the brightest gold depending on her surroundings, what she’s wearing, or maybe even the mood that she’s in. This is true unless she is using her powers, at which time her eyes turn a glowing, glossy black, not only around the iris, but the whole eye.

Eye Brows: Two long, curved ebony lines that stretch farther in toward the corner of her eyes and extend farther out toward her hairline than most.

Ears: Her ears are long and they come to an attractive point as they extend upwards toward the crown of her head. These are two parts of her anatomy you will hardly ever see, however, as they are usually covered by a black hood over her head.

Nose: Ash’s nose is a nearly perfect swooping line down the middle of her face. If you look closely, however, you will notice that the bridge and the tip curve slightly to the left. This is due to the handful of times her nose was broken many years ago. No matter how she tried, Asherah could not get the bones to set back into a perfectly straight line.

Lips: Dark silver and set in a full, rosebud shape, and they curve upwards quite dramatically at the corners.

Build: She is slightly taller than the average woman, whether it be a Majnun or human woman, and most of that height is in her long, well-toned legs. Also, Ash is nothing if not on the curvy side, and, as proud as she is of her physique, she works extra hard to keep her body toned so the curves don’t take over. She also works to keep her muscles lithe and her limbs spry.

Skin Tone: Her skin is a milky silver shade that shines in a way that no human’s could.

Height: 5’8” when not in wisp form.

Weight: 128 lbs.

Voice: Her voice tends toward the higher pitches, but she still manages to keep it sultry and appealing, unless she’s frightened or extremely angry, at which point her voice becomes so high that what she's saying is almost unintelligible.

Handed: Right

Body Markings: Ash has several intricate square-ish and spirally markings down her legs and back that glow a bright silver. Those on her legs wrap all the way around her upper-thighs and those on her back travel the line of her spine and extend out over her shoulder blades.

Scar Tissue: Asherah has her share of scars, especially over her knuckles and certain places on her face such as just above her left eyebrow and along her chinbone where she has been wounded badly enough that it needed stitching. She took care to let these scars heal properly so they would be as invisible as possible, but in the right lighting, you can see a trace of the long-healed wounds.

Unique Body Features: N/A

THE DOSSIER

Quirks: Not to diminish her intelligence in anyway, but Ash can be, quite literally distracted by pretty, shiny things. No matter what she is focusing on at the moment, if you dangle a jewel or even a particularly shiny metal chain in front of her, she will zero in on it and momentarily forget what she was doing. It has been a source of great entertainment for the crew, at times, and therefore she is working on being more disciplined about it. She also steals and hoards such items, but she has taught herself to refrain from stealing from the crew
 most of the time.

Virtue/Creed: “No one’s will can be taken away from them unless they allow it.”

Motivation: To be master of her own fate and not have her life chosen for her.

Goal: To, literally, see the world; the whole world. That’s what she tells herself, but her subconscious goal is to run as far away from her old life, and the reach of her father, as possible.

Fear: That her father and her betrothed will come for her and force her into marriage and a life underground.

Dislikes
  1. Being told what to do(though she manages taking orders from the Captain and First Mate)

  5. Small living quarters

Strengths: Ash’s greatest strength is indisputably her mastery of the element of darkness. Of course, the moment she believes she’s mastered it she discovers something new about it, but the powers she has practiced for nearly 150 years she can perform without a second thought. Another strength she possesses is her persuasiveness. So adept at it is she, that she can generally convince others to do something without them having the knowledge that they weren’t the ones who thought to do it in the first place.

This persuasiveness has also helped her hone her bartering skills. Many would think that years of isolation underground with little to no knowledge of the currency used above would prevent her from becoming so adept at bartering and handling gold and silver. This, however, was not the case. In her years above ground she has effectively learned to speak the “language” of currency in many lands, and can barter along with the most experienced, hard-driving bargainers around. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that charm and being a fast learner are also two of her strong suits.

Weaknesses: Ash shows weaknesses when it comes to following orders. She has had to work on her willfulness for some time just to be able to stay with the Asura. She has great respect for both the captain and the first mate, which has made it easier, but her first inclination is always to do what she thinks is best, and many times what she wants to do conflicts with what she is ordered to do. She also has a hard time working within a group. Another weakness is her inability to effectively operate even the most basic technology. She speaks the language of magic, not science, and most bits of tech intimidate her enough for her to stay away from it entirely.

Physical Description: Asherah has the physique of a human female, but that is where the comparison ends. With shining silver skin, flaming orange hair, and eyes that shift like the different colors of the sunset, Ash is and oddity among humans and an exceptional beauty among her own kind. Other features that stand out are the glowing, tattoo like markings on her skin, and the fact that her eyes turn pure black when using her powers. She has had her share of feeling out of place, which is why she so loves being a part of a crew made up of such diverse people.

Ash is outstandingly flexible, so much so that it is visible in the fluidity and grace of all her movements. She has a light but quick step, and can move about like a noiseless whirlwind: come and gone before you even know she was there.

Personality Description: Asherah is a firecracker. She has a short fuse, and, even with those she deeply respects, she can adopt a very “my way or the highway” attitude. It’s not something she particularly likes about herself, but it is something which is extremely difficult to change. Once she has decided she dislikes you, her opinion is practically set in stone. On the bright side, there are not many people she dislikes. Ash is fond of diversity; she loves all sorts of people and makes friends easily, but that doesn’t mean she won’t take offense easily or lose her temper, even with those she claims as close friends.

She is particularly fond of those whom she feels are easily taken advantage of. She likes to become a “champion” and not only rush to their defense, but teach them how to defend themselves. Ash truly believes she knows what’s best, and she can be impossible and bossy about it, but she can also be a great friend who will defend those she loves to the death.

She is also an incorrigible charmer. It’s not hard for her to get on people’s good side and convince them to do what she wants. This talent makes her and excellent merchant.

THE TALENTS

Rating System
[Perfect] - [Excellent] - [Good] - [Above Average] - [Average] - [Below Average] - [Poor] - [Very Poor]

Combat Prowess
Good Hand-to-Hand Combat: During her rebellious years, Asherah would sneak off and do things no self-respecting Upper Class girl should do; things such as entering the Lower Class fighting competitions. She blew off steam, learned how to use her fist and feet as an effective weapon, and got pretty beat up in the process.

Very Poor Melee Combat: Because of her skill with magic, Ash has had neither the need nor the desire to learn how to defend herself with melee weapons.

Above Average Armed Combat: Over a century of practice in using her magic in a projectile capacity has given Ash near perfect aim, so ranged weapons come more naturally to her than swords. Other factors must be taken into consideration when using a physical object, however. In short, she can handle a bow or a gun pretty well if necessary, but she would rather stick to her true strengths.

Perfect Magic Combat: Ash’s mastery of the element of darkness is unmatched even among the Majnun. 149 is still young in her species’ years, but she learns more quickly, and displayed more ambition and enthusiasm for learning than most. There always seems to be more to learn, but what she has learned, she performs perfectly.

Below Average Mounted Combat: Before Asherah joined the Asura pirates, she had no need to learn this type of combat. She is trying, with little success, to learn to operate ship defenses, but that is the extent of her interest in this area.

Racial Abilities
Perfect Wisp Form: Because it’s something she has been able to do her whole life, shifting to her wisp form at will has become second nature.

Poor Superiority: Superiority should come as second nature to an Upper Class Majnun, but it’s something Ash has always struggled with, and a major factor in her decision to leave The Underground.

Excellent Element Mastery: Choosing an element to master is a matter of pride, especially to her race, and the fact that she’s been able to come as far as she has in a shorter time than most is even more reason for her to be proud.

Bloodline Traits
Good Shroud of Darkness: The ability to create a “dark zone” or fill an entire area with darkness and move through it in an instant as if she teleported from one side of a room to the other. She can also create a shroud of darkness around herself or other objects. This works incredibly well when it’s already dark, working to cloak herself or an object and make it nearly invisible. The sheer amount of energy this costs her makes the talent difficult to master, but she does a good job with it.

Perfect Extinguish: The ability to extinguish any light within a room or small area. This talent also gives her the ability to see perfectly in the dark.

Excellent Midnight Arrows: Ash is able cover any small object in darkness and then control the darkness around it to make it move. She uses this ability to create projectile weapons from small objects in the immediate area. She keeps a quiver of arrows on hand for this purpose. No bow. She can also move larger objects in the same way, but once again, the energy it takes to do this is immense, so she would only be able to move a large object a few feet at most.

Class Skills
Perfect Magic Affinity: Simply what it sounds like: the extent of ones affinity toward learning and effectively mastering the art of magic.

Average Aura Sensory: True Magi are drawn to those of like kind, and they can generally sense another being’s affinity for magic, or magic auras, as Ash likes to call them.

Above Average Mentorship: Those with a true mastery of magic have a responsibility to pass on their knowledge to others with natural talent, ambition and, above all, desire. It is one thing to master and element, and another thing entirely to mentor others to do the same.

PIRATE SKILLS

Rating System
[Perfect] - [Excellent] - [Good] - [Above Average] - [Average] - [Below Average] - [Poor] - [Very Poor]

Above Average Sailing: She had no knowledge of it before she joined the crew, but she’s a quick learner.

Below Average Gunnery: Again, no knowledge before joining, and it’s seems to be an elusive skill for Ash, but she is forcing herself to learn.

Above Average Leadership: Ash would rather lead than follow, and she wouldn’t have gotten where she is today without a certain amount of leadership skills.

Good Fighting: She’s a scrappy thing when she needs to be, and she never backs down from a fight. Not to mention sparring is one of her favorite pastimes, so her pretty little face has taken more than its fair share of hits.

Below Average Tact: Ash tends not to sugar-coat, but to point out others flaws in a genuine wish to be helpful. It doesn’t always come across in a positive way, however.

Good Charisma: Despite her lack of tact, her charm goes a long way, so people generally tend to like her.

Poor Honor: She’s a bit too selfish to be considered honorable by most standards.

Average Courage: Ash would come to the aid of her friends at the expense of her own safety in a heartbeat, but she wouldn’t do the same for a stranger or someone she can’t stand.

Above Average Bloodthirst: She craves a good bloody battle from time to time, but she usually curbs this desire via a somewhat friendly sparring match with one of the crew.

Good Intelligence: Ash has a good amount of knowledge and street smarts, and what she doesn’t understand she actively seeks to learn. She covets knowledge as much as she does jewels, and loves to gain more of it.

Above Average Wealth: She’s acquired many items of value over the years, mostly because of her fondness for shiny things, so she could be considered wealthy. Some she took from her home in Faelsie when she left, and other she “acquired” during her travels. She would never be able to part with them for gold or silver, however.

CLOTHING & ARMOR

Image Head A silver tiara with a large ruby at the center which falls over her mid-forehead. It is an heirloom of the Koe family. She is also seen at times with the shrouded hood of her long black cloak pulled over her head.

Neck Ash can be seen with fine jewel necklaces, whether from her days of luxury in the Capital of Faelsie, or treasures she has come across as a member of the Asura. Every member of the crew knows that if it’s sparkly, Asherah will want it.

Chest Here she wears a leather vest of sorts: a vest so tight, it literally looks like scraps of fabric painted onto her body, but, it does the job, covering the parts that make some uncomfortable.

Back A long black cape with silver etchings like the ones on her body. The inside is also lined with a silver fabric.

Arm/Shoulder Her cloak provides long sleeves with the same silver embroidery.

Right Hand As with her neck, various jewels can usually be seen ornamenting her slender fingers.

Left Hand Same

Right Accessory N/A

Left Accessory N/A

Waist Here she wears a jagged, silver belt-like ornament which holds a long, flowing black fabric with red and silver designs; this serves a skirt.

Legs Skirt

Feet Ash has an extreme dislike for any sort of footwear, and tends to go barefoot in almost every instance. This also makes it easier for her to shift to her wisp form at will. On her right ankle, however, she wears a thick bangle, also a Koe family heirloom which is imbued with the magical ability to shift with her legs into wisp form. It is also said to enhance her magical abilities in some way. Whether or not this is true, Ash doesn’t know, but she never takes it off. Just in case.

Image Bio/History Why would one ever wish to leave the lap of luxury? Asherah Koe was born into that cushy lap. The Koe family was known as one of the most influential of the Upper Class, and her loving father denied her nothing that he couldn’t readily provide. As she grew, she was given the most extensive training; her skill was nurtured until she was ready to choose her element and begin to master it. She chose darkness, and every resource she needed was available to her. She progressed quickly, and for a long time, magic was her only focus.

As she grew into adulthood, it became apparent that she was going to be an exceptional beauty. Her adoration, her intelligence, even her rapidly progressing talent for magic, all this paled in comparison to this fact in her father’s eyes. It was all that mattered. She was the kind of beauty that could be given away in marriage well above even her current station. He began planning her future. There was a member of Thee Ascent who had a son. Introductions were made; she felt her life slipping out of her hands and into theirs. 98 was too young to be married, not to mention it wasn’t at all what she wanted. She wanted nothing more than to spend her years alone with her father, honing her gift and mastering it. A husband would be a distraction, an encumbrance. And, Lazarus didn’t seem like the type of man she could love. He was handsome, to be sure, just a few years older, but he was cocky and arrogant and entitled: nothing more than a spoiled little boy.

Asherah began sneaking away to do things she knew her father would not approve of. She began spending time among the Lower Class, and met a girl who fought in boxing tournaments. Asherah begged the girl to teach her, it was just the sort of thing her father would hate. She learned a new skill, earned a few scars, gained a new friend, but failed at the one thing she so desperately wanted: to once again control her own life. The bartering had ended. And she was now betrothed.

It was at this time when she took a good look at herself. All her time spent among the Lower Class taught her one thing that she had yet to admit to herself, namely, that she was just spoiled and entitled as her new fiancĂ©. She knew nothing of the world beyond her own existence. Suddenly, she longed to know more, to see the world and be free. So, she made a bargain of her own. She sat down with Lazarus and asked for a present for her hundredth birthday. She asked for fifty years. They were too young to be married just yet anyway. “Give me fifty years to do as I please and see the world, and at the end of it, I will come home to spend the rest of my life with you,” she pleaded. He agreed, for he loved her beauty as much as her father did, and after seeing her, there was no one else for him. He would give her fifty years, and she would give him the remaining time she had on the earth. The bargain was struck, and she left the Underworld to see the great world beyond.

The more time she spent above ground, the more she realized she never wanted to go back. She learned skills that would help her survive without her father’s assistance, and lived as a small-time merchant until DeVargo found her. She joined the crew, hoping that among it she would find the one place where her father and Lazarus could never reach her. But, she is now 149-years-old, with only one year left before they will be expecting her to come home. What will happen, when in a year she doesn’t return?

So begins...
