Beth continued her far off inspection of the new dog until she heard a familiar little voice in the shop. Happily looking up to see Adjo the look quickly fell as the little boy went to his mother. Something was definitely wrong. Adjo was a sweet kid and she absolutely adored him, so that simple face was already making her itch to find out what happened; which didn’t take long. Not wanting to intrude, she still couldn’t help but overhear after Karen introduced her and Will to Elena then spoke to the little boy. Upon hearing the words leave his mouth, Beth had to resist asking Karen if she wanted to borrow any of her knives…or Will… but the fury of a mother would be beyond anything she could do.

Chewing on her cheek as she noticed Will explaining their business dealings with the shop, Beth pretended to be absorbed with the dog again so Will would continue the exchange on his own. It was good for him after all. The sudden rummaging in her pack nearly blew her cover as Will dug for the throwing knife she needed to replace the one she lost today.

With the business part over with until either Karen returned or they got a verdict on the weapon, there was no reason to leave Will forced with talking; but she wasn’t going to but in either. Standing up from her position on the floor with a stretch; Beth leaned back against the wall and pulled out one of her knives out of habit. Rag in hand and irritation needing an outlet, she mechanically started polishing the blade and cleaning every crack and line in the handle. She could never understand stupidity, but cruelness to a kid was beyond any sort of understanding.

Elena watched Will's reaction to Adjo, grinning slightly as the boy's presence seemed to perk him up a bit. Will and Beth were obviously familiar with Karen and Adjo both, allowing Elena to ease herself into more familiar terms with the two. Elena was a horrible flirt, but she knew how to act professional at work, as she would continue treating the client in the shop as a paying customer. Friends of Karen's however, well... Elena figured they would both be open game. She leaned forward, hands on the counter in front of her, as she eyed the scrap metal and spare parts sorted on the table; a mischievous grin took place over her features as Will stumbled his way through his words and looked off to the side, searching for something to add to his rather short sentence. Elena could admit, however, she felt slightly awkward about mentioning payment when Karen had such a deal in place with the two; the awkwardness passed when Will retrieved the knife from Beth's pack.

When Will showed it to her, Elena immediately reached out and plucked it from the man's hands. A hand resting on the hilt and a finger placed on the tip of the blade, Elena rotated the knife to inspect the damage. It would take some work, sure, but this was what Elena excelled at. She couldn't build things from scrap, no way, but she could fix nearly anything. "Oh, it's definitely possible." She tosses a wink at Will before turning her attention to the scrap metal laid out before her. She'd have to find scrap matching the density and, hopefully, the material of the knife in order to fix it correctly -- nothing she hadn't done before, so it wouldn't distract her from playful conversation. Her first order of business was to confront the nervousness that Will had displayed just recently. "So, Will, you've got to have at least a foot on me, right?" She glances up, reassessing their difference in height before continuing. "And I have to be the farthest thing from intimidating when you're out scavenging for scraps in the Waste." Another pause as she plucks a piece of scrap metal from the pile and weighs it with her hand, comparing it to the knife resting in her open, second palm. A nod of affirmation follows as she places the metal on the counter beside her -- having found the piece she was searching for, Elena settles her gaze on Will, arms crossing as her head tilts to the side, smirking slightly as her eyebrow raises. "So, what is it about me that has you so nervous, hmm?" She hums curiously, hoping not to offend the man with her, rather innocent, behavior.

Will half acknowledged Beth beginning to sharpen her blades, noting it as a sign of irritation or boredom, or both. More than likely she was reacting to the young boy being upset but his attention was all but torn away from her as Elena seemed to set her sights on him. She gave him a wink which caused him to squirm and dip his head, looking towards the floor, trying to relieve the weight of that simple gesture. It might have been nothing to others, a small wink, just something passing but to Will it was like she had practically jumped across the counter and tackled him. He thought avoiding looking at her now would solve it all as he heard her sort through the metal, assumedly looking for pieces to fix the blade he’d given her but he was sorely wrong.

So, Will, you’ve got to have at least a foot on me, right? An odd question to say the least, it caused him to look up at her now with a puzzled expression under the hood. When she continued though with stating she had to be the least intimidating thing he’d seen when he traversed the Wastes for a living, he knew something was amiss. Her last question, asking what made him nervous about her; coupled with that mischievous gaze and smirk he knew she was teasing him. Grunting in surprise, he quickly looked away and towards Beth, his eyes desperate for help out of this jam but it seemed she would be no help. “I, you’re just, just new. A stranger, you can’t be too careful with strangers in the Wastes.” He stammered the answer out quickly after returning his eyes back to her but not actually letting his gaze focus on her. Just look at anything else but her, that way you can actually think to speak! He wasn’t lying to her, her being a stranger was part of the reason but be damned if he was going to tell her the other part! Reaching up, he rubbed and scratched at the back of his neck in a nervous habit, accidentally pushing the hood from his head. He scrambled as quickly as he could to yank it back over his head, cutting his eyes at Beth once more for help.
