“With all you guys here, it feels like just yesterday that you were making music in my old shed dreaming of bigger, better things.” Dylan’s Auntie Mads said cheerily as she placed another plateful of pancakes onto her small kitchen table surrounded by Dylan and his three hungry bandmates. Back when they were in high school, pancakes at Mads’ had been Sunday ritual for as far back as they could remember. Of course in their later years when Sundays became recovery days for nursing hangovers, the pancakes had become more of a late afternoon snack, sometimes even breaching dinner territory. Even before they started their band and had just been mates, Dylan’s place was their hangout of choice, since Mads was always off at work or working on projects, and even is she was around, she was never a big rule person, as far a gardians went she was pretty cool.

The band had flown into town yesterday night, and had spent the whole day running checks and practicing for their concert before crashing in their hotel room exhausted and jetlagged. Today though they were given the morning off to do what they liked, and this morning they had unanimously decided they wanted to visit Mads’ for breakfast. The hadn't exactly called first, and just assumed she'd welcome them, which she had.

“Yeah, the only difference being Dylan’s no longer head over heels for Cash.” Jack, the drummer of the band said offhandedly as he quickly grabbed a fair portion of the pancakes that Mad had just laid in front of them. Katelyn who was standing by his right shoulder and leaning on his chair unleashed a sharp hit to the back of his head, she played bass guitar and was back up vocal for the band. “Ow, What? We were all thinking it.”

“It’s definitely weird being back here Mads. It’s like so much has changed, but on the other hand it’s like nothing at all has changed.” Katelyn said freezing Jack out of the conversation and she leaned over him to grab the last couple pancakes from the plate that had been stacked high with pancakes less than a minute ago.

Dylan half listened his friends’ conversation continue, his thoughts were elsewhere. It was true how weird it was to be back home driving through the streets it seemed like nothing had changed, just looking around his aunt’s place, he couldn’t see a single thing that was different. The same clutter and mess was spread evenly across the house and strange, mismatched artworks and furniture were stuffed into every possibly corner and crevice, the same as usual, though there were a few new pieces here and there, the whole house still felt incredibly like home. It brought back all his memories of the past including memories of Cash, and he couldn’t help wondering just how she was doing.

He had been back before but it those times had only really been for a short periods of time to visit Mads, this time though they were getting a couple weeks off after their concert to catch up with family and old friends since they were finally back in their hometown. He hadn’t really shared his plans with Mads or his bandmates, but he was planning on seeing Cash while he was here. He was probably self-deluded, but he honestly believed that they could friends. It took him a while to get over her braking up with him, and then he got busy with band stuff, but he refused to believe that someone who was once such an integral part of his life was now nothing to him. He also missed her sisters as well and wondered how they were doing, he had spent a lot of time with them as well when he was together with Cash. He only hoped Cash still lived in the same place as before.
