(Female) One hundred and twenty years from the last capture—early 1800s
Sabine had been quite content with his group, and had grown secure in his place of residence. He kept mainly to himself, so the humans didn’t really seem to realize that he hadn’t aged at all. He had no intention of collecting any more pets, but when the girl came to him, seeking refuge, he couldn’t deny her. He had no inclination to change her initially, but when she discovered his secret, he had little choice but to keep her.

Appearance:
You could never call Hope 'beautiful'. Far from it, beauty was often refused her purely on things that she could not change about herself. Her body was always thin, a sure sign of malnutrition, and while the hourglass figures of the time could pull it off, Hope was rather unable to. Additionally, her hair was always messy, never tameable. For moments it would seem well set in place, but poor Hope always found it getting in the way eventually. Despite that, beneath her hair, her face was always considered comely. At least more-so than most commoners and lower class. Her green eyes always particularly stood out, and when it came to the men that were enamoured with her, that was one thing they always did remember.
Her movements are usually quite calculated, and there is very little wasted energy in her motions, which means her movement is quite clipped and there is never a moment of unnecessary motion when she sits still or is engaged in a task. She almost can seem dead, with how little motion is in her, when she is attentive and awaiting instructions on something. However she is all too aware of the unnatural feel of this, and is fully capable of switching to a more casual walking method if she deems it necessary. Like her walking, her emotions are shut well inside. Her face is rarely an open book and tends to rest in a very neutral, guarded expression. She is, like her movements, also aware and in control of it, and she has excelled due to her past in putting on the expression she most needs.
The one true exception to the immense control that allows her to reach her almost automaton style of service, and that is when she is truly enraptured by something. It is quite common to see her guards go down and the child that was bottled so deep wihin when she listens to a storyteller, and the fantastic worlds that seem so far removed from reality take her away, unlike anything else. And while she has mastered graceful, she never mastered courtly movements or any of the true grace of the higher born. Her grace that she has mastered is the effortless movement of the servants, who drift past the nobility without ever being noticed.
Attire:
Hope loves many things, but few more than the simple beauty of clothing. She was denied a lot of luxuries prior to meeting Sabine, and ever since she was admitted into the group of pets, she has embraced the one thing formerly locked away from her. She will take any fashionable attire that she sees and try it out at least once, and is seen in a myriad of different outfits. Perhaps the only exception is the fad of corsets and the corsetted dresses. She finds little interest in them, mostly because of the discomfort invovled.
However, when she is bored of the ever-changing styles that the upper class revel in, she returns to simple dresses, often small amounts of lace, sometimes without any. Functional dresses, but never common ones. Simple colours, not fancy but plain. She is not overly picky about her clothing, and appreciates it purely on how it feels when worn, rather than obsessing about the looks.
Personality:
Like many people, it is very hard to quantify Hope in a short few words. You could call her 'controlling' for the way that she intentionally manipulates any that give her weaknesses, but that would be to remove the deep facetted nature of each and every human being, so let us start at the base.
She is indeed controlling. She likes to be the one to have the power. She will put up with as much as she needs to, and she has a high tolerence to slights and abuse, though every comment against her is stored inside. She has a good memory, and is often focused on past events more than present. This can mean that she will hold a grudge for long periods of time, and a slight that the other party may have forgotten years ago is likely still floating in the back of her mind, as she waits for a chance to exact revenge. This also goes the other way, unprecedented kindness sticks in her head, and she likes to 'reward' or 'pay back' people who went out of their way to help her when they needn't have. Small kindnesses stick out to her as much as the slights she remembers so clearly.
She is, surprisingly, not too prideful, but at the same time, she values her pride highly. Shame bounces off her, and though she may store the fact that you did ashame her, it will never result in immediate response. She internalises things very easily, especially notably visible emotions. This can lead to bottled up emotions bursting out when she is alone, and it wouldn't be too surprising to find her crying herself to sleep. She is always more content with doing things herself, rather than having others do them for her, which can lead to her not admitting weaknesses to most people. This is why her inability to read at all is not common knowledge even amongst the household of Sabine.
She loves fantastic stories, of times well in the past or of worlds that do not exist. Unfortunately she refuses to have another read a story from a book, so she contents herself with the occasional storyteller that passes through. She laments the dearth of the oral storytellers, as the oral stories were now being recorded into books and printed out by various people, reducing the need and desire for actual storytellers.
She is very observative, and habitually manipulative. Even without a clear goal in mind, she will find herself manipulating events out of sheer compulsive habit. Even with no clear goal, she will do it simply because it's how she has lived for so long.
Likes:
- Stories - What would be the world, so dreary, without a tale bold? What would be the people without heroics told?
- Fans/fan-language - It's one of those odd things that always fascinated her. She would study it herself but her illiteracy works against her.
- Recognition - She would never admit it to herself or to others, but her life has trained her to appreciate and desire the praise of her superiors.
- Music - Another of the many list of things that she wished she had been able to do when younger, music is high on that list. She loves to listen to it wherever she finds it.
- Power - For all that she has trained to seek her superior's respect and recognition, she also has grown to love the instant reactions and fear, or respect, of those she holds some measure of power over.
Dislikes:
- Slights - Unnecessary insults, jokes at her expense, every single one is stored in her mind, never forgotten.
- Rain - Too many bad memories, and it's uncomfortable. Wet clothes are not enjoyable to wear.
- Ignorance - She was brought up to do her job, and never knew much beyond that. It shames her to admit to the many things she just does not know.
- Odd Technology - She doesn't understand the new things coming through. Though she enjoys the things she knows, other items that are foreign to her are... not so appreciated.
- Inefficiency - She cannot stand to see a job badly done. This is a return to her fear of making the slightest mistake, lest she bring down the wrath of the lord she worked under.
Hobbies:
- Fact Collecting - She enjoys finding out the oddest information, and with her steel mind always keeping every snippet overheard ready to use, odd information has a strange habit of becoming useful.
- Fashion - She loves some of the odd clothing that comes around, and keeping up, at least knowledge-wise, with what people enjoy wearing is a small hobby of hers.
Skills:
- Needlework - Though when she learnt her skills with needle and thread it was intended in the simple repair of clothing and fixing her mistresses attire, she has found it gives her a solid foundation for learning a lot of the more 'complicated' needlework
- Body Control - Expected to be a servant, and always showing exactly the perfect emotions to please her masters, Hope is very good at controlling her body and expression.
- Housework - She wasn't pretty enough to be one of the upper level serving girls, so she cooked and she scrubbed and she cleaned. And she got good at it, lest she be kicked out. Now she does it out of habit for Sabine's estates, when she's not busy with other pursuits.
- Numbers - For all that she is uneducated, she's learnt basic numbers and money handling along the way.
History:
Hope remembers little of her parents. They were there, she grew up around them. But the time before her being thrown into a workhouse to be trained as a servant is all vague for her, and she remembers nothing more than minor impressions. She could even pass her parents on the street without ever realising they were, so vague is the images in her head. In contrast, she remembers even the first moments of the workhouse as if it happened yesterday. The harsh Matron, the bored teachers, and the lashes for her most minor insubordination.
Despite this Hope excelled. For all the lazy teachers and the ones that didn't understand how to muster the class, Hope noted things quickly, and remembered them. But the biggest things were the slights. She remembered every moment where the teachers disabused her, or the other kids decided to pick on her for being stick-thin. So she internalised the hurts and kept moving forwards. It was pure chance that first got her out of the workhouse, a noble-woman looking for a new servant swinging by and Hope happened to have been serving the matron at the time. And so she moved on from the drismal beginings and began work under the hand of Lady Almington.
She worked for several years there, growing through her teenage years, and slowly learning all she needed to have to be a good servant. She was never pretty enough to be one of the 'face' maids, so instead she excelled at repairing clothing, cooking, and cleaning. Eventually, the old madame decided to gift her to her daughter, as part of the wedding bundle, and Hope moved houses without complaints. The daughter of Almington and her dear husband were a more leniant sort, and Hope excelled in a much lazier house-hold, using the people around her to further her own goals. She wanted freedom of a kind she could never access where she was, and she would fight tooth and nail for it.
It was here that she grew to control her movements and face so perfectly, as she decided that her easiest route was the younger brother of Duke Caravel, who was husband to the young Almington lady that Hope served. Visiting his brother was a common thing for young Phillip, and Hope was very good at always managing to be in the right places, especially as she planned the preparations for visits. The love affair was torrid, exciting and terrifying, and exactly as Hope planned, up until Duke Caravel found out. On the very edge of success, Hope was disgraced and cast out, and used as a scapegoat to avoid any scandal getting out. No other nobility would take her, due to the stories spread, and quickly Hope found her world crumbling about her.
It was then that she stumbled across Sabine, the demon pretending the face of a noble. Letting her in despite the rumours, she found some comfort in the odd household. However her watchful eyes quickly picked up that something was amiss. The inhabitants caught her attention immediately, and her curiousity was aflamed. It didn't take long for her to stumble across the secret. Though she barely knew the surface, she had decided already that this was one route to the freedom she desired. Having the information, she managed to persuade Sabine into letting her in, though it seemed the demon was already enamoured with her quick mind and sharp eyes. And now she sits amongst the other pets, comfortable in her status of being the only one to have chosen this entirely of her own free will, and the only one to have made Sabine choose her.
