Previously on Nebula's Dawn...

”You don’t want to allow it too much power, otherwise problems might occur.”

“What kind of problems?”

“Adam…is a very advanced matrix for his time. You see, in A.I. Theory, there are five stages to an A.I. - creation, growth, stability, rampancy, and…metastability. Most A.I.s utilized by the military on ships or in the field are in the stage of stability. Stability lasts for approximately seven to eight years after the construct’s conception. After that, they may go mad, disobeying orders, using data systems to wreak havoc, which is known as rampancy. When A.I.s go rampant, they are no longer usable, meaning they must be destroyed. I had a previous theory that during the rampancy stage, A.I.s become absorbed in a self-delusion of grandeur, similar to a human being with schizophrenia. An A.I. would see its creators as mentally inferior. There are many theories as to how and why A.I.s go rampant, but there isn’t a definite law regarding the matter. One possible explanation is the processing power, when A.I.s are given too much of it, they’re likely to overload their systems because a critical mass has been reached.”

“And…metastability?”

“That…is a theory in A.I. Theory itself; no A.I. has ever reached that point, at least not to our knowledge. It is the point where A.I.s supposedly become conscious...sentient...a true person.” - A.I. Theorist and Developer Roman Durant and Rear Admiral Aronimus Weston

"We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day. Keep smiling though, carry on fighting, carry on crying, carry on smiling, but for heaven's sake carry on living." - Unit Commander Peter Ray Davidson: Deceased Circa August 7, 2093 S.C.M. (Solar Cycle Mars)

"I fail to understand the humor in this 'blonde joke,' is there something funny about people of certain hair colors colliding with solid objects?" - A.D.A.M., Artificial-Intelligence Designed for Advanced Adaptive Multi-Quantum Processing

"I think the first thing we need to do here is establish a friendship Max, don't you agree? I, the A.I. Tau, promise to protect you from harm on this vessel to the best of my ability and also swear to not harm you myself in any way. Now, can you promise you won't harm us in return Max? It would be much more preferable to be friends." - T.A.U., Tactical Assistance Unit

"No worries, Ronin, we'll delouse your six. Jesus...and give you a haircut to boot. We're apparently a full-service sort. Make for the hangar and tell 'em Hyena sent you; you'll get the best seat in the house." - Wing Commander Jessica "Hyena" MacPhearson

"I remember a time when the crew decided to have a party, under the radar, they got drunk. Very drunk. Someone was too fogged to lock his prisoners down. Fifty people died that day, most of them good officers." - Lieutenant Commander Alice Chen

"Clyde Summer. This is my first deployment so...I guess I'm a private. Lost? Never. Navigators never get lost. Just...delayed..." - Navigator Clyde Summer

"I have and still do have great respect for you, it's not often a young recruit caught my eye, but it doesn't surprise me that you are the one to finally best me. My plan was to delay you, but you beat us today, our fleet will grow and the Federation will be a forgotten foot note in history. It amazes me that you stand with these tyrants, but maybe I wish I stayed naïve." - Atreus "Silver Eyes" Eturrer to Admiral Aronimus Weston

The Story so far...

Circa November 2, 2093 S.C.A-T. (Solar Cycle Arcturus Trangelis)

The F.S.S. Salient, on its maiden voyage, narrowly escaped destruction at the hands of Atreus Eturrer. The ship, crewed with an experienced Admiral, talented yet raw recruits, and sophisticated artificial intelligence, went toe to toe with an armada. Eturrer, a former Federation Vice Admiral who went rogue under the new alias, "Silver Eyes," met the lone warship and its brave crew near the gas giant of Themos V, and the ensuing engagement cost many lives. The Salient, managed to escape to its original destination after an irreversible slip space jump was activated, sending it directly to the Arcturus System as part of its mission to investigate recent disruptions, most likely to be insurgent activity.

Image

The crew recount the events from two months before, questions still linger. A young A.I. was found aboard the Salient prior to the appearance of Silver Eyes. The simultaneous appearance of both has brought on suspicion from a few of the crew members. Not to mention the fact that an armada had been sent to wipe a lone ship off the face of the universe. It leaves many wondering. However, at the moment they must get underway with what needs to be done.

Unbeknownst to them though, three highly advanced Federation Stealth vessels operated by teams of highly-trained and skilled specialists and commandos have been sent to the system for unknown reasons.

Meanwhile the Insurgency awaits the arrival of the ship and are prepared to fight tooth and nail to defend what they have gained in the hopes of disrupting the Federation's hold in this fringe region. Silver Eyes for his part, is still after the Salient, and with his crew, will pursue the Federation warship to the ends of the galaxy to retrieve Courtney Reynolds.

The Arcturus System

Image

The very fringe of Federation colonization efforts, the Arcturus System is home to metropolitan population centers, government, research, and corporate outposts as well as some of the largest criminal organizations known to mankind. Each have varying ideologies and goals, some will conflict with others. Conflict will lead to bloodshed. There are some though, who have had no hand in this and who have only wished to etch out an existence for themselves, yet they will be drawn into this greater conflict. One that they neither asked nor wished for.

Image

Beyond this however, lies a veil that mankind has yet to lift. Of the twelve worlds within this system, only three of them have been touched by the hand of man. The rest remains to be discovered by the adventurous and the bold to seek out a history or perhaps a future recorded by the stars.

\\Current Factions-Groups List//

The current list contains groups that have been involved in the story thus far. Disclaimer: Writers may create their own factions with the consent of the GMs and other participants in the story.

The Federation: The main governing body of Earth and its extra-solar colonies, the Federation serves as a supranational government of Earth's various nations. Forged through conflict, the Federation began ushering mankind through an unprecedented age in interstellar exploration and colonization after dominating various Earth factions. It maintains a resilient Navy and Marine Corps to combat any groups that attempt to prevent mankind's march through space.

F.S.S. Salient Crew: Note to all writers joining for the first time, the Crew of the Salient was already created in Part I. You can't join this.

Task Force 172: Comprised of the 87th and 275th Marines Regiment, TF-172 was deployed to New Sidney approximately two months following the destruction of Areca at the hands of the insurgents.
87th Marines Regiment -
- Jason Miles

F.S.S. Vigilance Crew - The first of three Federation Stealth Frigates deployed to the Arcturus System.

Commander - Terrance Kamatsu
XO/Second-In-Command (SIC)/Helmsman - Laura Elliot-Park
Operatives -

F.S.S. Legacy Crew - The second of three Federation Stealth Frigates deployed to the Arcturus System.

Commander - Adrian Ives
XO/Second-In-Command (SIC)/Helmsman - Serina Watson
Operatives -
1) Nathan Crane

F.S.S. Redemption Crew - The third of three Federation Stealth Frigates deployed to the Arcturus System. Priority spots for new applicants.

Commander - James Walker
XO/Second-In-Command (SIC)/Helmsman - Nataliana "Nia" Martinez
Operatives -
1) Connor Langley

The Insurgency: Known only by its methods of spreading terror to further their anti-Federation message, the Insurgency is composed of a variety of cells that act independently of each other. The Federation now knows that the largest of these cells is being headed by the former Federation Admiral, Deem Jahum. Jahum, the sociopath and self-proclaimed messiah of the Insurgency in this sector, is better known by his alias "Lord Liberty."

Insurgency of New Sidney -
- Lord Liberty

Engrideo Industries: Engrideo Industries is a private organization solely focused on R&D, exploration, colonization, and the advancement of mankind. At their outposts in the Arcturus System, they have gathered a number of brilliant minds to continue research into many fields of interest from cybernetics and astronomy to planetary exploration and excavation. There is much to be explored, and much to be discovered. The question as to whether mankind is truly alone or not, remains to be answered.

Engrideo Research Facility on GX-871A -
- Roman Durant
- Jean Anthony Brocard

The Pirate Nation: The majority was wiped out at Themos V by Commander Attalon Soters. Though a far cry from the strength of the Federation Navy, the Pirate Nation still poses a threat to the unity of the Federation. Its conception came about relatively prior to the events near Themos V. A faction known as the Pirate Lords, bent their knees to Silver Eyes in the hopes that he would lead them to victory over the Federation. Analysts point to the possibility that more pirate factions may rally behind him, and if that were the case, the Federation has a lot more to worry about than before.

Atreus "Silver Eyes" Eturrer
Courtney "Rich Girl" Reynolds
Shuffle Vanguard Pirates: A mercenary group working inside of the Pirate nation.
- Leos "Ace of Diamonds" Cydus

Altamus Corporation: One of the many corporations operating in this sector of Federation space, Alta-Corp, as it is colloquially known, had its first taste of an actual pirate menace at the hands of the Pirate Nation. Following the engagement near Themos V, where approximately 700,000 tons of precious Duillium cargo was almost lost had it not been for the actions of the Salient and its crew, and the increased pirate presence even in the Middle Rim worlds, Alta-Corp has decided to bulk up its security in Outer Rim outposts, where pirate activity is the highest.

Waltz Enterprises: A multi-trillion credit corporation, Waltz Enterprises lost its heiress, Elizabeth Waltz, who was last seen in the Middle Rim, on board one of her personal yachts with escorts. They lost contact with the ship, and Waltz was presumed missing. The Board of Directors frantically sent out search parties as well as reported the incident to Federation officials. They have not disclosed much on the matter, but the Board is ready to assume the worst. Many speculate that Waltz Enterprises will have to increase its security to prevent another shameful incident such as this from occurring again.

Non-Aligned Characters: These are the day in and day out characters who are humans and thus citizens of the Federation, but they don't serve in the Armed Forces, and to some extent their loyalties may not fully belong to the Federation. These characters are the renegades that don't consider themselves pirates, or insurgents, they may perhaps work for some corporation, but do not claim any full allegiance or loyalty to them.

Characters

- Characters. Moderation is asked for. New characters joining the story for the first time, you are not restricted in terms of what your character does for an occupation. Chapter 2 is a bit more of an open world in terms of characters and places. Also, Nebula's Dawn: Lance of Liberty at this time is only human.

- Character Skeleton. Necessary information will go under RPG's already pre-defined categories of description, personality, equipment, and possibly history. Personal discretion is highly advised, please add any category that you wish to add, e.g. quirks, dislikes, phobias, nicknames, body markings, or even character themes. Also, names should include a preferred pronunciation within parentheses. The skeleton below is the minimal information needed. You may also examine any of my characters for an example of how the skeleton is used.

Writers from Nebula's Dawn: F.S.S. Salient may use their original character profiles, as long as the new fields and requirements below are met.

Toggle Rules

Please Read The Following Carefully. This applies to writers from Part I as well.

Beside the common rules of RPG, these will also apply to everyone in the story:

- First and foremost, writers are expected to be committed to the roleplay. Should any writer become a hindrance to the RP in anyway (such as not posting for an extended period of time), GMs reserve the right to progress the story with those characters as they see fit.

- Please do not God-mod, meta-game, or power game. I expect you to uphold me to these standards as well.

- Stick with the lore. This is a conventional science-fiction, space age themed roleplay, as such, you write canonically.

- Point of View and Writing Style. You are required to write in Third Person Limited in Past-Tense.

Communication: Is integral to maintaining the stability of this roleplay so that it won't choke or starve itself to death.

Everything you need to know has been given, if you still have any questions, hit me up via OOC/PM. Thank you for reading.

The Nadd Residence

Nadd had managed to carry the drunk bastard back to his house. His guards were off duty in the morning, but they would spring forth at a moment's notice and be at his house in a couple of minutes.

Nadd exited his master bedroom, dressed in a simple suit, no tie, underneath was a thin body vest. As a merchant, smuggler, and black market criminal, he knew that a sword hung above his head like that of Damocles. Nadd didn't hesitate though, this was the life he chose, and he didn't regret it.

He sat down on a curved leather sectional directly across from the fabric sofa that Lionel rested upon. He had left Lionel on the couch for the night, while he slept in his bedroom. He had his eye on his digital watch, which blinked in cyan colors, 9:10, while he waited for the mercenary to pull himself out of repose.

The butler, an old, thin man, held a tray in one hand and entered the living room, with its raised ceiling. He proceeded to set the tray down in front of Nadd.

"Thank you, Ronald," Nadd went about eating, the old man replied with a nod.

"And what will he be having, sir?"

"When he wakes up, you can ask him." Nadd answered.

Lionel grunted. Opening and closing his mouth sleepily, rolling himself over and wrapping one of the pillows in his arms. "Mni don't want the lil one..." He mumbled.

One of his eyes open slightly, taking a sleepy glance at the room before closing just as dreamily. Then all of a sudden both eyes were open and his hand shot to where his gun was usually holstered, flying to his feet he held his 'gun' ready to shoot at his kidnapper. "Who are you?" He half growled before it dawned on him he was pointing a remote at his well dressed assailant.

Nadd's mouth fell open slightly for a moment. For starters, this was the first time someone had managed to get a "gun" so close to his head. Secondly, he was amazed at how quick the mercenary managed to draw a "weapon" after waking up with a hangover, or at least he thought Lionel had a hangover. Lastly, the bastard had completely forgotten who he was, but he shouldn't have been surprised, considering how drunk Lionel was the night before. Then he blinked and sealed his lips, before finally talking.

"Calm down big man, you were drunk last night, so I carried you to my house."

The butler, approached Lionel, "What will you be having for breakfast sir?"

Blinking slightly dazed, Lionel stood motionless for several moments before lowering the remote as though it really was still a gun. "Oh." He answered still trying to re-piece everything together from the night before his memories and head still feeling fuzzy. He turned his head as the older gentlemen approached, evidently his kidnapper, saviour, host person was of some social standing and wealth. "Umm, breakfast?" He smiled brightly at the butler, obviously impressed, "I could get used to this." He patted the frail man upon his shoulder, slightly less forceful then his jovial slaps were normally, in case he induced some form of heart attack in the frail man.

"Do you know how to make a full English?" He asked with a smile before sitting down and running his hand across his short hair. "Right, so I got drunk and ended up here. Err... I'm really sorry friend but as much as I like breakfast being made for me I don't really swing that way... so I don't think this is going to work..." Lionel began the night before slowly beginning to reconfigure itself in his memory. "Wait, no I remember... Naff right?" he guessed. "Well, so far this mission is sounding interesting, you carried me home and your butler is making me breakfast." His head was beginning to catch up to the rest of his body and the hangover was definitely starting to ache in his head but this was not a feeling Lionel was new to, he had learnt over time to ignore the dull thudding. “So, what is it you want me to do?” He leant inwards towards Nadd from his seat, with a keen interest.

Written with conspicuousconartist in RPG Write.

Aboard the F.S.S. Redemption.

Connor looked at Nia dead in the eyes; he wasn't afraid of leadership, he was afraid more so of the truth. He opened his mouth, gulping, preparing himself for the worst of what could happen.

"I was in the fitness room when you gave the briefing apparently, making my way over to the recreation center where you'd probably give the briefing to everyone, and judging by the shit I got from all the other soldiers, I missed something important," he said, his voice still confident.

Nia bit her lip as she heard Connors explanation., waiting for him to finish before uncrossing her arms and placing her hands on her hips. "So you missed what the commander said over the intercom? You are supposed to report for your briefing, the fitness room is not a long walk exactly." Connor remained in his rather stiff posture, listening to what his commander had to say.

"It's not an easy walk when the ship is traversing the atmosphere, and I did hear Commander Walker, but what did I miss anyways?" he asked, getting a little more to the point. He wasn't interested in all the little details or critiques on his lateness to a briefing. The consequences of his actions would run their course, he thought.

The lieutenant lowered her eyebrows at Connor's response. Was he giving her attitude? She moved closer to him and raise her voice so that other people could hear, "I don't care if you lost one of your fucking legs, you come when you're ordered to." She looked him up and down before continuing, "You are to report to Lieutenant Joseph. You're in his firing team for our mission. We're going on the surface of the planet to gather information on the insurgency." She said with a calmer tone than before. Connor looked at her a bit more sincerely, not arguing with his commander, but rather agreeing.

"Thank you, lieutenant..." he said, his voice trailing off. "I'm sorry for wasting your time," he said in a lower voice. In his mind, thousands of scenarios of how the future could play out, what he could've done, started simulating in his mind. He expected something like, "Sorry doesn't cut it," or "Just don't do it again," or something of which would doubt him. But that's only because he doubted himself

Nia turned to looked back to the shower calling her name. Being trapped in a tin can for months at a time with mostly men was enough to make even the most rugged woman feel unclean. The lieutenant was one of the few female Marines on board, but the others were pilots and technicians mostly, not combat effective. She turned back to the Sargent Second class, keeping a stern look on her face. I can't believe Commander Walker wanted him as second in command of this mission. She thought.

"Well like I said before, you should be getting ready for the drop off. Have you done a drop off since training? The pods we use are a lot smaller and faster than most, designed for quicker insertion. Were you one of the ones that you throw up in the pod?" she asked with a slight smile.

"It's tough for me to handle the feeling of free-falling, but not much makes me vomit," Connor replied, "but that's only just a small part of the mission." He glanced over at the clock, and then began looking around the commander's quarters. His mind was always jumping from one thought to the next, sometimes he could be taken as not paying attention to the situation before him, but that wasn't necessarily true. The fact that Nia's top was a bit revealing didn't really seem to phase him. "Will we be given any information on the terrain or enemy's influence in the area?" he asked, thinking a bit further ahead for himself as an individual. "It'd help to give a general mindset of how we should go about this mission," he added.

"Well I did throw up my first few times." She admitted. "The drop off can be a bitch." Nia looked back into her room as she noticed something catching Connors attention. There was several articles of clothing thrown about everywhere and the trash was over flowing. This was not considered an acceptable living condition for a Marine officer, and Nia felt slightly more embarrassed about her filthy room than her inappropriate attire.

She turned back to Connor once he began asking more about the mission. "Never been to New Sydney? The whole place is a desert. We'll be landing near the outskirts of the city of Atom, a cliff city. We should be hitting ground a few hours before the first sunrise. As far aw we can tell, the insurgency isn't base in the city, but there has been reports of small enemy convoys traveling through. So we set up just out side the city and log any suspicious activity we see leaving or entering Atom." Nia explained as she glanced at the clock; there goes her opportunity to take a proper shower.

"Alright," he said, thinking more deeply inside his mind about the mission. "I'm going to go get ready with what time I have left," he said, waiting for something reminiscent of a dismissal from the lieutenant. If it wasn't for the trash or herself, Nia might smell Connor's sweat stronger.

"That would be wise," the lieutenant agreed. "See you at the drop off Seargent," she said before stepping back and typing the lock code on the keypad by the door, shutting it it immediately. Once she was alone in her quarters again she lifted her arm and brought her nose closer to her armpit, checking herself and quickly pulling her head back up. Eyes widened, she quickly wiggled out of her pants, leaving them on the floor as she pulled her tank top off and headed to the bathroom.

#, as written by Rulke
It had been some time since Atreus had time to himself, after the initial jump the ship had been irreversibly damaged and he was now pretty much dead in the water, this was worsened by fact that they were wanted and the cloak module was thrown together from schematics they had taken from Courtney cabin, nothing that advanced, it had only been in BETA testing phase and her model was non-serviceable making it all the more impossible due to this. Nonetheless they could perhaps progress somewhat, repairs had been a grueling affair since they were also trying to keep the ship in flight, which was even more impossible with most systems running at half or quarter capacity.

In all this there was shining light, there was a back-up to MIRANDA it had just taken a week or so to replace the fried drive. Even in the clear progress, there were still clear major issues, the thrusters were pretty much barely ticking by and any major exertion would destroy them completely, and Courtney may have been a genius but she had not imagined such excessive damage, the girl had many theories or ideas on sheets of paper, but half the stuff was untested and the Captain did not feel right using so much 'questionable' hardware on a ship with his whole crew, thus everything she had written had to be tested and that wasted even more days, all in all it was likely they would need to land soon. The rations were running low and so was morale, there had been no communication since the failed maneuver and skirmish in the Milky Way. Everything had seemed to be going so good, just so much screw ups to account for, not to mention they needed Courtney back, not because she was like his daughter, but because he needed someone who map drives and locate flaws in design easily.

Sighing he turned on MIRANDA point and said, "I estimate four days until boosters can be used to traverse space and land on anything, what's the situation with other areas?"

The AI would listen and nod, "I estimate 90% of all systems are in critical state and calculate even repairs you are doing now are merely just stellotape and glue, this ship will literally fall apart if it does not land within a few months."

The Captain groaned and said, "Very well... keep me informed and chart course for nearest planet we can use as beach head, preferably Non-Federation land, I would rather not be caught with my trousers down, if possible."

"Planning course, checking scans, come back in a few hours, I can't overtax the system."

With that he would walk towards his main room, open a drawer and pull out a bottle of whisky; for emergency. Well if there was ever one, this was certainly it... that was for sure. Popping the cap he would take a glass and pour a little in, taking a sip and sighing in defeat.

This was not how it should have been...

The House of Clubs, Redlight District

The two FIS agents looked at each other, they didn't exchange any words, but they each held the same thoughts, though.

Glass snorted through his nostrils nonchalantly, "Rules two and three will be easy if we just follow rule number three," he paused.

"The problem we've got is, our superiors didn't mention anything about you guys using our weaponry and equipment, don't even talk about our communication systems. On top of that, we were told that you were putting up your services for six hundred thousand, not seven. So my first question is, what's going on?"

Sand sat there eyeing everyone prudently and studiously, trying to absorb all the little details that he could. The "Ace of Diamonds" though, was one that he couldn't read, because he was sealed inside a suit. The suit made him look imposing, but Sand simply glanced around.

"If we may, we'd like to step out and talk to our superiors a bit on this, and maybe they'll shed some light on our situation. If that's alright with you gentlemen?" Sand spoke up.

Glass turned to his colleague, nodding in affirmation at the request.

The pirate understood the request, and quickly offered to connect them to their superiors from the club. "This is a place of neutral hospitality. My operatives can leave the room as you can use our AI to connect to your captain. Secured channel, with encryption codes that you two can set yourselves. As for the raise, the extra hundred is awarded if, or rather I should say when, we bring the target alive. The six hundred is if he's dead." He had said, keeping a poker face of sorts over his voice, while indirectly ordering the others to leave the room.

The other pirates had quickly picked up on what he was meaning, and were seen calmly evacuating the lounge.

"As for the record, we aren't going to be using your equipment. The Insurgency..." The pirate paused slightly before continuing, "... and the other pirates will be expecting you to be using standard Federation equipment, and should already be readying themselves against such. We'll simply... enhance your equipment to throw them from their game."

"Actually, we're not referring to the ship captain, we meant our superiors at the F.I.S." Sand replied, "But thank you for the accomodations."

"Very well. If you wish to continue with negotiations, then you know where to find us." The Ace of Diamonds had responded to the two agents, holding up the enigmatic aura that surrounded him.

Sand nodded, while Glass approached the circular table and immediately plugged in his comm device. From there the table's holographic panels slid into presence and immediately hummed to life. The white lights began to flicker as they struggled to retain a constant unfading projection. Finally the lights managed to stabilize, and Admiral Fontaine appeared on screen.

"Status report," the Admiral asked.

"The Ace of Diamonds has said that he will be offering his services for six hundred grand if the Lord of Liberty is dead, or seven hundred if he is to be brought alive. Also, the pirates will require the use of Federation equipment? We wanted to clarify if those were the original details of the contract, Admiral."

"Yes, those were the conditions. What did he say?"

"He had several of his own conditions. One of which is full pardon for any Federation deaths by his hand." Glass stated dryly.

Fontaine rubbed his chin, his eyes narrowed.

"Very well, go on."

"But sir, what about the stealth teams?"

"I will send a message to them to stand down in face of the SVP."

"But sir..."

"Enough. There is a deal to be made. Do you understand, operative?"

"Yes sir." The communique closed, as the lights vaporized. Glass turned to the Ace of Diamonds, and nodded.

Jean had departed the camp apparently on a further scouting mission along the route however this scouting ended where his official occupation did.
Jean had navigated his way into the interference area where nothing short of coincidence could find him however Jean was not about to risk even remote coincidence and paused to examine if he had been followed.

GX was an interesting place to work on; it gave scientist and colonists alike the freedom from civilization they so craved and the chance to forge something new that was truly their own. Pirates, smugglers and other desperados also found the freedom of such a virgin planet invaluable with Jean being no exception.

Since he had begun his work on GX Jean had been carefully building up a hidden cache for his business arrangements. By delaying the report on the planet's human life sustainability he was able to keep the others in the base for a sufficiently longer length of time to complete his little "store house" among the caves.

Satisfied that he had not been followed Jean continued his journey towards the cache. So far he had mainly done small jobs such as supply local pirates with energy cells and trade off promising local flora and life forms to the smugglers while the stuff remained forbidden material by law. There was some good money in these transactions but Jean had mainly started it to make it clear to the other "gangsters" that he was running the show on GX... Three unlucky brigands had learned that the hard way and where now decorating Jean's "Red room" after he had blasted their sorry asses to kingdom come.

The planet was indeed rich with resources and fortunately the great area of interference seemed to have blocked the scans of the Mega businesses when the system was being colonized many years ago. Jean had been able to penetrate some of the interference from the caves and discovered by scanner an underground deposit of Uranium ore.

While this was way beyond the league of goods he normally shipped out the money he could make out of it was far too serious to miss. Jean doubted he could mine the ore on his own even with mining robots but so long as he could keep this claim to himself he would eventually find some way to extract and sell the valuable material.

Jean reached the caves and entered them using waypoint markers primitively chiseled into the rock to find his way to the cache. Most of the goods apart from the power cells and local material where mainly odds and ends he had found off old bases and ships and what he had acquired by the more infamous smugglers who could not afford to risk a shipment to the populated planets so instead dropt goods of here for pickup by local runners.

Everything was here apart from drugs because Jean just didn't do them. There wasn't really much of a moral reason for that but Jean had always been careful with the drug barons because they were more likely to kill someone then sneeze.

There were quite a few weapons waiting to be shipped off to the Insurgents in the cache but surprisingly most where not bound to new Sydney but to the other planets in the system with far smaller Insurgent problems. Jean guessed that the NS Insurgency had by now developed its own weapons industry which was amusing considering the NSG where so short on supplies they had turned to more unorthodox methods of acquire them.

Jean got to work sorting out tomorrow's shipment of local plants which seemed to produce some potentially very interesting alcoholic beverages … or anesthetic if that failed.
It took a while to pack everything to the delivery container since the plants had to be treated gently as to keep the highest quality possible. Most of the goods where disguised inside old and worn food containers as an attempt to make the cache seem like an abandoned old storehouse in case someone came sniffing around.

With his work for the day done Jean left the caves, it took him a while because the cave network was quite immense with his cache being only a room in a city compared with it.
As he walked away Jean saw what seemed to be storm clouds in the distance… which was strange since his satellite report hadn't shown any build up whatsoever.

Max experienced a slight Anomoly detection following a new connection being added.

He attempted to connect to this new connection, which seemed to be running on outdated software. However, when he saw the registered hardware and structure, he had a momentairy...pulse...of some kind, turning white, yellow, then back to blue. "K-9...THE K-9....". He soon rectified his observations though. "Wait, no, based off of the model of that. Not actually K-9 from Doctor Who. No, that wouldn't....where is this data comming from?". It was like a switch he couldn't turn off now that he flicked it on. Random, unprocessed data. Trace remnants. But how?

He had to focus. Actually, he already was focused. "Who are you? What is your reason for being here?". He could tell whatever this thing was, it had some sort of damage or bug. "Listen, just don't harm us, and we won't harm you. Sounds good?". He alerted the Captain to his discovery at the same time. That's when the location came up for the position of his hardware on the ship.

He then sent a message to the captain, saying "We have found another Artificial Intelligence. I don't think it's hostile, it hasn't done anything hostile. But I think we need to revamp security for the Salient". Max then looked back at this new digital entity. "So, can we be friends?".

Though there was something else Max was feeling too. And he turned grey in color for a moment from it. He was jealous. He would very much like to have his own, physical body. It's why he liked appearing in hologram form whenever possible. It was as close as he could get.

Plus, he heard chocolate tastes really good. He really wanted to know what it tastes like.

He then asked Weston "You need me to do anything else, Sir Captain?" in his usual, silly way.

Iru's firewalls desperately tried to fend of the security programs when suddenly they stopped breaching his databanks, a different presence now filled his systems.

"Who are you? What is your reason for being here?"

Asked the curious program; it was not a simple instructed program that was quite certain from the received data. In fact this format was so alien that Databanks where convinced sensors section was suffering a malfunction and that this new program was nothing more than a "Data mirage".

Profile Iru nonetheless overruled Databanks; sensors where indeed faulty however pending more data Profile Iru had to assume sensor's readings where correct.
Profile Iru proceeded with caution; a registration number would compromise the unit's components, it was better to surrender as little information as possible while gaining as much as he could about this strange new environment.

"It is advised to address this unit as IRU6" answered Iru however answering the stranger's further request of purpose was overruled by a systems data program. Iru could not answer such a question and soon the inquiry into this information was deleted from his memory leaving the question unanswered.

"Listen, just don't harm us, and we won't harm you. Sounds good?"

Asked the stranger… Iru was puzzled by this seemingly very human pattern set but what he knew to be a computer program however protocol decreed that asking another AI over its programing was quite rude and therefor impossible for Iru to contemplate.

"This Unit has no intention or capacity to harm profile Salient, all unit requires is to be permitted and cleared to continue the updating process, further communication may continue once Unit databanks are sufficiently updated with the relative information."

Iru concluded that some official recognition would make his task easier and therefor the granting of some registration information would have to be permitted.

"For Unit registration information the central congressional databanks possesses the relevant information. This unit has been legally registered both in the European Union autonomous state of Wales under file WWDB/EUBR/SoW/CRER900/2416358759621 and in the United States of North America under file WWDB/USNA/CDB/RaCES878/9038448857445032"

With two national registration markers Iru concluded he would have no further difficulty with security programs and remained in a state of standby as he awaited confirmation from the strange program.

F.S.S. Salient
Day Two

Aronimus stood at a balcony in a firing deck of the Salient. He had received some minor message from Max, referring to some new A.I. The Admiral thought about it once, perhaps he was referring to the T.A.U., or A.D.A.M. However, his mind was too focused on the current occasion to worry about it. He was overlooking various sorts of personnel dressed in their formal apparel.

This was no banquet or honorary ball of sorts, no, it had no festivities to it. It was a day of solemn reminder and respect. It was a day of mourning. The marines, the sailors, and the non-military personnel came to pay their respects to the deceased and the people who gave their lives so they could stand there that day. For the admiral, he had seen many of these funerals over the course of his career.

But he'd never gotten tired or weary of them. He had worried that should he ever lose sympathy for fallen soldiers, he would become another Aronimus Weston who was alien to him. That was something that he would not allow to happen, despite the fact that he prided himself on his partially rigid adherence to reasoning and the military code of conduct.

They were gathered in the firing decks of the Salient, canisters filled with the ashes of the fallen were loaded into tubes and prepared for ejection into space. Long black banners were hung from the bay's overhead gantries.

It was time.

The Admiral made his entrance onto the platform overlooking the firing deck, positioned behind the soldiers, as they watched the tubes beings loaded into the launch tubes.

One of the master chiefs spoke aloud, "Honors...ten hut!"

As Aronimus spoke, the speakers carried his voice not just around the entire bay, but throughout the ship to crew-members who could not attend the ceremony.

"We must never forget the actions of fellow servicemen and women," Aronimus said, "Liberty, is a privilege, not a right. It must be fought for, and defended, everyday. Not an inch of ground must be given to those who oppose it."

"These men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice, and in doing so," Aronimus paused, "They will ensure the continued survival of our Federation. They are not just soldiers, they are heroes now."

The deck remained silent, as the marine band played the anthem, and the guards gave their gun salute for all who perished. Outside of the ship, fighter wings who had lost men flew in a "missing man" formation.

"Honor. Duty. Sacrifice. These are what make soldiers. Death will never diminish these traits within these fallen heroes."

The hatches opened and the tubes were ejected into the silence of the void.

Aronimus took off his cap and placed it upon his heart and closed his eyes for a very long time.

F.S.S. Salient

Day Two

The Admiral sat in his command seat on the bridge, observing the station's repair crews at work via exterior cameras. The bridge crew for the most part were running system checks, a task usually left to the A.I. About half of the bridge crew was gone on break, the remainder were knucklehead and try-hards who were eager to impress. Aronimus nodded, he expected as much from men and women who wanted to get a leg up. Merit, he warranted, should be the manner by which one rises in this world, not by rubbing elbows or scratching backs. However, that was just a pipe-dream reflecting an ideal world, he was in a less-than-ideal world, and he had to live with that.

"Officer Hansen, has Iridosis sent any updates on the Salient's status?"

The scotsman with his copper beard turned around and replied with his broken accent that was a mix of Scottish and Standard English. It was odd to hear him talk, but the Admiral paid attention to his words and not his voice.

"They said that the hull has received extensive damage. Reactors are at 35% and the chemical thrusters are in need of repairs. The upper decks are in critical condition and are receiving the first of the repairs. The plates on the lower decks are ripping apart as we speak," Hansen paused then continued.

"They said they'll have to completely remove the plates on the lower deck and replace them with refurbished pieces or wait for a shipment of neo-steel to arrive."

"From where and how long?"

"From Trangelis in approximately two Trangelis solar cycles, so two days time."

The admiral paused to think, at the moment the Salient would be of no use to anyone, it could only serve as a command ship. He should probably assign his secondary command elements to parley with TF-172's commanders.

"Very well. Get me on the comm system." Hansen tapped some keys on his screen.

"This is Admiral Weston to bridge crew, Lieutenant Commander Chen, Commander Dunaway, and anyone from the rank Captain and up is to meet me in my personal quarters at approximately 1400 hours for a briefing. Weston out."

The admiral reclined a bit in his chair, there wasn't really much an admiral could do with a ship in the yard.
