Introduction

The New World went to war with the Old World because the New World believed magic was a tool of good when used responsibly. Those in the Old World believed magic was an evil device that taught people to control others and gave them power they did not deserve. One side did not effectively "win" but instead, the Towers of Perdition were created, and a barrier that is impossible to pass by any except the Sisters of Light, who are the only ones who know of its existence.

Now, only a few years after the war between the Old World, the New World is at war again. With itself. D'Hara wants to rule the Midlands, which is ruled by Confessors and Wizards. D'Hara also wants to rule Westland, who want nothing to do with magic at all. Through all of this, the Sisters of Light are coming through the Great Barrier and taking children with a Han to be taught how to control their magic with the most brutal methods.

This plot will begin with what is supposed to be a peaceful meeting between D'Hara, Westland, and Midlands to come to some kind of consensus about what to do, and why D'Hara wants to rule. D'Hara wants to rule because it wants more land, and Lord Rahl simply wants more power. The Midlands want to keep their people safe. Westland wants to be cut off entirely. With this information, the meeting can go a few different directions.

Information about the different lands and their people:

D'Hara
Located on the eastern coast of this continent. South of it is the Old World. D'Hara is ruled by the Lord Rahl, who created a bond between his people and himself that protected them from the dream walkers in the old world. D'Hara citizens are fiercely loyal to the Lord Rahl and his soldiers.

Lord Rahl: Yes, you may play Lord Rahl. Give him a first name, please, and a description of your own choice. He is a powerful wizard (see wizards in Midlands section), and gave the agiel to the Mord-Sith he created (see below). He is power hungry, but in his mind is power is entirely rationalized. Make him convincing, by power or charisma. In the mind of the player and all of the D'Harans, he must be the true leader.
Lord Rahl hates Confessors, and because of their power, wishes them the first beings to be killed.

Mord-Sith: At very young ages, the sweetest and most loving female children may have their name given to Lord Rahl. He chooses a couple or a few, and sends some soldiers and his top Mord-Sith to capture them. They are taken from their lives and tortured very slowly. This torture endures for years, until the girl is grown up and creates a bond with the weapon used to torture her. This is her first breaking; the loss of all personal desire and to do exactly as her master tells her. This is so she will be an absolute warrior for Lord Rahl's protection. The second breaking is that she must watch as her trainer (her master, the Mord Sith who is breaking her) tortures and eventually kills her mother. This is to break her compassion. The third breaking is that she must inflict the torture upon her father until he breaks, and then kill him. Once she completes her tasks, the Lord Rahl grants her the ability to take any magic that is used against her, except the magic of a Confessor. Taking the magic of a Confessor results in death. Her only weapon is the agiel, which is the same agiel she was tortured with. It's a red leather rod about a foot long, and inflicts intense pain upon the touch, depending on where, can break bones. (I imagine it to be electricity, if that helps at all to get some kind of familiarity with it, but don't describe it as such, just the pain aspect...)
Mord Sith have three outfits: brown leather, which is their "common clothing", red leather which is worn during breaking, torturing, or if they suspect trouble, (it hides blood the best) and white leather, which is worn if they have selected a mate and to show that their mate is so broken that torture is not necessary. Their hair is always worn in a long single braid down their backs. They are the personal guards of Lord Rahl.

Soldiers: D'Haran soldiers are very very skilled fighters. They are so because the Lord Rahl has trained them to be the steel against steel while he is the magic against magic. They have no magic, and in all things magic, they trust Lord Rahl entirely.

Midlands
The Midlands separate D'Hara from Westland. In the northern city of Aydindril, where the Council takes place (their gov't.) All the lands are able to have a monarchy or whatever form of gov't they choose according to their cultures, but they must send representatives to the Council. (Kind of like the United States gov't.) Confessors live in Aydindril along with the Order of Wizards.

Wizards: There are several different types of wizards. There are two sides of magic: Additive and Subtractive. It is semi-rare for wizards to be born with both sides, often they are born with only additive. There are two ways a wizard can be: either born with the gift, or born with the calling. If born with the gift, the odds of having both sides is possible. It is possible for a wizard born with the calling to learn both sides of magic, but only if he sells his soul to the Keeper to learn Subtractive magic. (See Sisters of the Dark).
Additive magic-using wizards use elements and the world around them to add, multiply or create things. An example would be that a wizard can quickly grow himself a beard, but cannot magically remove or cut it.
Subtractive magic- is the opposite, used for removing internal or external aspects and causing destruction. Including shields created from additive magic.
There are four types of Wizards:
Wizard of the Order: This is what most of you will be. A "generic" wizard, but still with a lot of power. You have the ability additive magic or both magics, but having both sides is still considered semi-rare. You have wizard's fire and Life fire (using life fire will kill you.) More on the specs. in OOC board upon request. Wizards of the Order are ordered to train and protect Confessors. Except the Mother Confessor, who is protected by the First Wizard.
War Wizard: If you want to be a War Wizard, you really have to impress me with your profile. (If you really want it and show promise, I'll help you with it, so don't be too intimidated) WW have both sides of magic, and use their magic to focus in war, be it shooting arrows to always hit their target or with a sword on the battle ground. However, for balance purposes, WW do not have wizard's fire, but they do have Life fire. They can heal, receive prophecies (not always understanding them) and conjure weapons out of people.
Prophet: Receive prophecies and interpret them. Prophecy is a very touchy and odd subject. They are always fulfilled and ambiguous in language. Whoever would like this role will have do a lot of communication with me =] I only want one Prophet. Because their magic abilities are often focused on interpreting the prophecies, they are weak and not as powerful as other wizards. But, they are extremely intelligent and able to remember everything they're told or read. Only have additive magic.
Crafters: These wizards can embed magical abilities into weapons or armor with additive magic. If they have subtractive magic, too, they can embed the ability to take things away from opponents. For example, they can create a sword that upon slicing a victim, can take away agility or strength (for subtractive magic) Or, they can create a shield that will grant the wearer strength (additive). The more powerful the wizard, the more abilities OR the more powerful the weapon/armor created.

First Wizard of the Order: He is the leader, the most powerful wizard, may or may not have both sides of magic. It is his duty to guard the Mother Confessor.

Female "wizards" are Sorceresses (see below in misc. section)

Confessors: Can be women only. Their power is subtractive magic, they take the entire being of a person upon by one touch. It is known as the power of love. Once touched by a confessor, a person is completely and entirely devoted to the Confessor who touched him/her, even to die if the Confessor wished. For this reason, the wizards and Confessor mothers train their daughters to be wise in compassion and how to control themselves with their power. Confessors have the longest hair in the Midlands, except that of the Mother Confessor, and their magic prevents them from cutting it. They all wear black dresses except the Mother Confessor. Because of their power, they do not marry out of love, because in the throws of passion they might touch their lover and destroy him entirely. They choose mates for positive traits they can pass down to their daughters. This makes them a threat to many women in the Midlands, and men. Confessors may not have sons, because the power is always passed down. If they have a son, they must order their husband to kill him by a formal process that breaks the child's spine. They have a strong sense of order, and would selflessly sacrifice themselves for someone of higher position.
Their duty is to travel the Midlands and determine if a person is truly guilty. In cases where the innocent plea innocent but no one believes them, they'll sometimes plea for a Confessor to prove their innocence. They are present to keep the peace of all the Midlands' many lands. The strength of her power is directly proportional to how long it takes her to rest after using it. The longer the resting period, the stronger her power. Confessors are always accompanied by a wizard on their travels.

Mother Confessor: She is the representative of all the common people of the Midlands, the small lands who have no representatives in the government, and looks out for their best interest. Her dress is white, and is the highest rank of female being, even queens and kings bow to her. She is guarded on her travels by the First Wizard of the Order.

Westland

Because Westland doesn't want anything to do with either D'Hara or the Midlands or magic in general, this land is a gathering of non-magical folk. Later in the role play, the Wizards will create the barrier that separates Westland from the Midlands for their own protection.

Misc.

Sorceress: Female "wizards" but not as powerful. They only have additive magic (unless she is a Sister of the Dark, see below) and are said to speak in riddles. They do not need or receive formal training for their ability because they do not really need it. They have a little bit of everything, but because of odd physical features, are often shunned by society. Often, young girls are recruited by the Palace of the Prophets, which is located in the Old World.

Sisters of the Light: A sorceress from the Palace of Prophets who travels from the Great Barrier to take male children with the gift so he may be trained to control his power, but only if a Wizard is not available to. However, the Sisters ignore this rule usually, unless directly confronted by a Wizard. Not a lot of these, and you must be in the New World searching for a person or child. Their duty is to serve the Creator.
Dacara: A magical weapon carried by the Sisters of the Light. It is a sword they leave in their sleeve, once it pierces an individual, it takes away their life.

Sisters of the Dark: Undercover sisters disguised as Sisters of the Light at the Palace of the Prophets. They serve the Keeper, and have both additive and subtractive magic if they have sworn their lives to the Keeper. They also practice absorbing the male Han through various grotesque procedures. It is hard to tell a sister of the Dark from the Light. SotD will travel across the Great Barrier for male children so they can perform these rituals and absorb their Han later. They also have a Dacara.

Re: [OOC] The Darkest Dawn

Well, I'm convinced that this genre really is cursed.
I've had the week of pure hell, and to top it all off: my grandpa just had a serious stroke and I have to go out of town this weekend.
I'll get back to you guys as soon as I can, but if you're seriously interested please go ahead and start creating your characters.

Re: [OOC] The Darkest Dawn

Update: This week has really sucked at school, but I finally decided that I will be playing the role as the Mother Confessor, since no body else stood up to claim it, and I recently came across a series of inspiration. Which has led me to some other information I probably left out: If you're playing as a Mord-Sith or a Confessor, and you have a mate, depending on whether or not you'd like the mate to have his own personality and say in anything, you can determine whether or not a profile is necessary. For example, the Mother Confessor's mate will not have his own profile because... well, he's pretty much gone in terms of humanity, lol. But Mord-Sith do not take their mates so completely, so, yeah.

Re: [OOC] The Darkest Dawn

No, it is the longer resting period, because Kahlan's power takes longer than like a whole day to regenerate... Either way, this role play is only based on it, so not everything is exactly the same. I remember it as being longer, so therefore, it's longer. lol. And I think it makes more sense to say the more powerful, the longer resting period, because otherwise a hellah-strong character can just go wreaking havoc where ever he or she darn well pleases because their power might return almost instantaneously. It's all a balancing act =)

You certainly can be a guard, in fact I think that would be a good idea just for balance purposes. I'll add something for the Midlands, since D'Hara has their extremely awesome soldiers who aren't magic-based. Or you can be a D'Haran soldier. Hmm... Yes, I suppose it would be fair to add a mediocre army to the Midlands. Or you can be a commander from the Westland army, and through the meeting someone changes your mind about magic, and you're compelled to join either D'Hara or the Midlands. Some options for you to mull over.

Re: [OOC] The Darkest Dawn

I'm interested in taking a role for this story, but I don't like playing as a magic based character. Would it be possible to play as something similar to boundary warden? From your intro I realize that the boundaries are not created yet and therefore it would have to start as as a soldier of an elite unit or something like that at least until the title of Boundary Warden become appropriate. Lastly I've only read the first three books to the Sword of Truth series and that was years ago but in the intro discussion about a Confessor's power it says "The longer the resting period, the stronger her power." I thought it was the other way around that the shorter the resting period the stronger her power, but I could easily be remembering it wrong x.o

Re: [OOC] The Darkest Dawn

By nature of it, yes, it will have to be literate.
I had things to do yesterday so I wasn't able to stay home and work on it like I wanted to (I need to change the picture, lol, it's awful.)
If you're familiar with the story, I'd feel more comfortable with you trying out a position of power. But of course, if you don't want to, that's fine as well. =) I haven't even decided what role I want XD

Re: [OOC] The Darkest Dawn

If this RP is bound to be literate (a good 500 words per post as a minimum) and active - then I would love to either take up the role of a Mord Sith or a Confessor.
