The Cybertronian civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons that was fought on Earth in 1984 was brought to a temporary peace much later on their home planet of Cybertron. The descendants of these two factions, the Maximals and the Predacons, waged war on prehistoric Earth before returning home once again to Cybertron. There the leader of the Predacons, the second leader to take the name Megatron, managed to enslave the planet and steal the sparks of almost all Cybertronians on the planet. Peace was once more restored to Cybertron when Optimus Primal sacrificed himself and Megatron to return Cybertron’s core to a techno-organic state.
Currently:
Both Megatrons, Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal are all dead as are most of their armies. Most either died from trying to force others to be reformatted or died resisting the reformatting. After the brief reformatting battles, Cybertron has had a period of peace, however none of the four factions trust the others. To make matters worse, a sample of the techno-organic core material was stolen and used by an unknown suspect on the head of Unicron in orbit over Cybertron. This has awoken the long dormant being and he has left orbit to take refuge in an unknown area of deep space. It can be assumed that he has his servants building him a new body. The Cybertronian factions all suspect the other factions of being behind this betrayal. The Autobots, in a desperate move, have asked Earth for help in this new threat. The Maximals seem to be united in standing their ground and improving Cybertron’s defenses. The Decepticons know that the Autobots and Maximals believe they were responsible for the betrayal and have decided to hide on Earth once again. The Predacons, with their knowledge of transwarp technology, have sent out a multiversal call for help to all Cybertronian life throughout the Multiverse.

Collectibles

Transformers: Streams of War
It takes place after the end of the Beast Machines series. The head of Unicron has been revived after an unknown suspect used the Techno-organic core material from Cybertron's core to bring him back to life. Unicron's head then left orbit and fled to deep space where it can be assumed that he's reforming a new body. All four factions think that the others are responsible for the betrayal and have decided to address the situation in their own ways.
