Much like most of the other students of Mooreville High School, a certain raven-haired male was not impressed by the idea of being roomed with one of the known bullies in the school. Out of everyone who was in the home economics class, they'd be paired with a student who was in the GSA. This was done simply by pulling a number, it was all kept anonymous until the day they'd set up their rooms in the small apartments they'd be living in. As granted by the city, they were testing a new feature. One that encouraged open-minds, and to stop bullying. All the apartments were apart of a small complex, they had called the "Mooreville High Building" each pair had their own room, cooking space, and other things of the such. It was to teach them how to live together, and on their own and teach them the values of living expenses and other things. The GSA decided to add in their twist, to the project to as said before to encourage equality amongst the school. Bullying had been notably high in the past years, and they planned to change that.
Now, back to the story.
August wasn't fond of this idea. Not at all, the idea of being roomed with someone he didn't know made his anxiety skyrocket. He wasn't sure who'd be walking in that door after him, so he'd sit on the small motorcycle he had inherited from his brother. Not the safest ride for him, his mother constantly spoke about, but he liked it. It was his father's before his brothers, and with Miguel getting his own care he had no need for it. Anything that August could keep his father's memory alive in he would definitely do. He would straighten the jacket up, before getting off the bike and putting it on it's stand in the small garage. He was on the third floor, so that was nice. With there being five floors, he was the perfect middle. So that was nice. He would his his bags around his arms. Some of it holding his filming equipment for his channel. He'd see the elevator open and he'd press the fifth floor. Wow, fancy ass place. This must be what they spent the Drama Department's budget on this year., the boy thought as he looked around. The apartment building was rather modern in terms of design. Must have had some help from big donors. Things like the rich kids at the school who's parents believed it'd do their children good. With the elevator opening, he'd feel his phone buzz. Digging it out of his pocket.

umm idk i havent made it 2 the room, brb gotta unlock this bitch
The male typed back quickly, before he took out the keys they were given. Inserting it, he'd turn the lock and hear that unlocking click that often satisfied him for some reason. He'd open the door before speaking, "Hello?", no answer coming out he'd walk in and scope out everything. Deciding on the room with the armchair in it he'd begin to set his stuff up. Damn these places were nice, slightly better than the home that August lived in. But he wasn't going to focus on that. His brothers were gonna help bring in some of his actual things like his own television (his mother had changed jobs to something better paying after his father died and they moved to mooreville, able to buy him one) and his true love of a gaming system, his PlayStation. But that'd wait, for now he awaited his new "roommate" whoever it may be.

The building was nice, and Cal was glad he only had to drag his stuff to the third floor. He knew that he probably could have made several trips, but he just wanted to get it over and done with. Juggling his bags was easier said than done, especially considering he'd brought his keyboard from home. Playing at home, he felt like he never had the same level of freedom, feeling like his father was always listening. So he mostly played instrumental pieces, pieces he couldn't criticise. Cal put in his headphones and readjusted his bags before starting the trek up to their apartment.
Opening the door, he dropped some of his bags and nudged them along the floor with his foot as he looked around the apartment. It was nice. Nicer than he'd been expecting if he was honest. A bit of a view, which was always nice. Big, and modern. A year without his father, somewhere as nice as this? He just might make it through the year. Depending on...
His roommate. That little detail had slipped his mind for a moment. He sighed and took out his headphones, looking around for signs that they were even here yet.

"Hey! Sup you guys! It's ya boy August back at it again with the daily vlogs.....wow I'm stupid. Anyway, I'm back with another daily vlog, to give you guys an update. I'm here in a small apartment complex nearby my high school. where I'm taking place in an experiment my home economic class is hosting during summer break before school starts. I, a proud member of Mooreville High's GSA, will be sharing an apartment with another poor unfortunate soul. We're supposed to learn how to take care of ourselves in a stable environment, I start a job at Starbucks later on this week, as part of the assignment we needed to choose from a hat to where we'd be getting a general area of work. I got a coffee shop. Anyway my favorites, it sounds like someone just entered the apartment, so let me greet my new roommate. Hope he's cute," he spoke as he would shut off his phone placing it on the nightstand. While he was waiting for his new roommate to enter the building, he would have set up most of his room. His clothes still remained in his bag, but most of his primary filming equipment was set up. He had his filming area set, and he was ready to take on an adventure.
His heart stopped once he saw who was out in the living area.
He rushed dead back into the room he was just in and locked the door sliding down the back. A loud frustrated groan would escape his lips, before he hit his head against a wall.

major fuckin help needed. i got HIM. and i mean HIM. i don't think i can do this goodbye
He quickly sent a text before looking at the bed that would be his for the next few weeks. Why did life hate him. What the fuck did he do to deserve this.

Karma really was a bitch.
August turned and practically ran back into his room without saying a word. Cal just stared. Those words seemed to echo in his head. His father's threat of "or else." Caleb himself calling August a freak just so he'd stay away, just so he'd stop holding on. And anger rose in Cal's chest, threatening to drown him. He dragged his bags back across the floor, throwing them into what he now knew to be the empty bedroom. He wanted to talk to August so badly, to explain, to just make things easier. But there was something stopping him, and he hated that. He was furious at his father for making him do that, furious at himself for letting himself be controlled, furious at the universe for putting him in this situation.
Slamming the bedroom door behind him, he just dumped his bags on the bed and instead removed the keyboard from its case, not even bothering to look for the stand. He plugged it in and scrolled through his playlist for a moment, trying to find something, anything to make him feel better. Anything. Finally settling on a song, he put in his headphones and just... let himself play. He wanted to lose himself for a few minutes, to forget about August, to forget about... everything. To just enjoy that freedom he'd been so glad to have only moments ago.

y'all im serious, idk what to do. how am i going to do this? i hate him, but at the same time......i feel like i should try to talk to him.
Of course, when he needed them, his friends weren't there. Probably busy with their new roommates, he couldn't blame them. They had their own lives, with a sudden thought he'd realize his brother was gonna be here soon. Fuck. All three of his elder siblings had threatened the other male's life. And his sister his manhood, a shiver ran over the boy at the thought of the very detailed threat his sister made. He would frantically begin to type towards the Valentine sibling group chat, but he would hear a knock at the door. Fuck.... he thought before exiting his room, and peering through the peephole to find his brothers and sister all standing outside the two males holding a television and his sister holding a duffel bag. "Open up dumbass, we have your shit," Mario spoke as August would quickly open the door and have them come in. "Hey little bro! We wanted to check on you and bring the stuff you couldn't carry on your bike. And we wanted to meet your roommate, and make sure they know not to fuck with our baby bro." Miguel spoke as he and Mario would set the television down on the coffee table.
"Uh...that's not a good idea. He-They aren't here yet. Can we just get this stuff to my room and y'all leave? Pleaaaaaase?" he asked with a pleading cry. The three laughed in unison before staring towards him. "You know it's never that easy Auggie," Maria spoke this time. He would groan before he'd lead them to his room. Opening the door he's point to the desk where the television would lay and pointed to the bed his sister could place the duffel bag. "I'll be fine, thank you, I love you. BYYYYYYYYYYE." he spoke trying to push all three out with no success. "It must be a boy you liiiiiiike, c'mon Auggie you can tell us! We won't judge youuuuuu," Mario spoke again. August would shake his head, turning a shade of red, before pointing towards the door. "Don't make me get MamΓ‘," he threatened with all three adults turning wide-eyed. "Oye, espera, hermanito. Nos Γbamos, no hay razΓ³n para involucrar a mamΓ‘," Miguel spoke rolling his eyes as August grinned evilly before the three left.
After they would leave August would take a deep breath as he stared at the door that was before him. He would stand there for a few minutes debating internally. He shouldn't speak to him, he shouldn't be able to talk to him. But if they were going to live together, ground rules needed to be set. So with a deep breath he would knock on the door.

And then there was a knock on the door, one he just about heard. He stared at the door for a moment, already feeling his walls slam back up again. Could he afford to let August back in? Could he afford to even just be friendly? Would he be able to keep that distance? Was that distance safe?
He got to his feet and brushed himself down. As he reached the door, he took a deep breath, trying to decide how he was going to approach this. It wasnβt something heβd ever even had to imagine himself doing. But he was here now, so he had to make his mind up and fast. Nonchalance it was. Donβt be rude, but donβt make it look like a big deal. Donβt try and be his friend.
He opened the door. It still seemed so surreal, seeing August there after all his work trying to avoid him, trying to keep him away. There was a part of him, larger than he wanted to admit, that wanted to grin and crack a joke, to try and make it like old times. But they couldnβt go back to that. Heβd made sure of that. So instead he just leaned against the door frame and raised an eyebrow. βEverything okay?β He asked lightly, keeping his voice level. Donβt give in. Donβt be his friend.

"If we're regrettably going to be living together we need to set up some basic rules. As well as get each other phone number in case there's an emergency. I'm not looking forward to this....at all. I know you don't want to be roomed with a freak like me anyway, so we'll stay out of each other's way. Got it?" the brunet spoke with a slight frost to his voice. He didn't know how to feel, so he did what he always did when he wasn't okay with the situation. Froze his heart off. They needed to set up guidelines and rules, August already knew no having people over without telling the other one first. And they have to grocery shop once every other week assuming they'd be getting their paychecks around the same time.
FUCK, this was so annoying. He looked dead into Caleb's eyes, his mind racing but his exterior calm. What was he going to do? How was he going to survive this? This was Caleb, the boy who helped him out of his shell. The boy who helped him develop a stage presence. The boy he had lo-nope, not bringing that up. He would clear his mind before he'd continue to look waiting on a response.

"I don't care about you throwing parties or whatever. Just tidy up after yourself and I'll do the same. I suppose we should have some sort of rota for the other stuff, right? Groceries and all that shit?" He added, folding his arms again. More than ever he just wanted to break down, to ask August to forgive him, that he hadn't really meant it, he'd just wanted to protect them both. And he still needed to. He wasn't putting it past his father to drop in and "visit" at some point, and he needed to keep up the icy exterior.
"Had you planned on any big "drowning your sorrows" party tonight? Commiserating about being roomed with me?" He asked, somehow managing to make it sound like a casual question, even if the words injected the venom he needed. He sure as hell wasn't. He didn't have many friends left. Everyone had sided with August after Cal had cut him off, and he couldn't blame any of them.
xxxxxxxxxx[ dialogue: #72848a ]
xxxxxxxxxx--------------------------
"I had thought something like us both doing it, or supplying the other with a lsit. The rotation sounds like a nice idea. From time to time, I'll have a few of the theater kids over here practicing for community theater projects, I may go to parties. But other than that, we should have set days for cooking and stuff of the like," the male would speak out. He attempted to keep his voice cold, his composure steady. He knew he was going to break. All he wanted to do was punch Caleb in the face, or hug him because he was back. They weren't friends by a long shot. But they were in the same place together. "And no, it's not sorry to be in an apartment with you. More like anger. And you of all people have zero right to be venomous with me Caleb."
The Hispanic male would stand there angrily staring towards him. How dare he? Get venomous with August, when August did nothing wrong. He wasn't the one who fucking left, he wasn't the one who was betrayed. Did Caleb even care? Did he even see how much damage he had caused to August?

Keeping his straight face as August spoke felt nigh impossible. He could feel the anger rising in his chest. He wanted to grab him, tell him everything, ask him for forgiveness. But he couldn't. They couldn't be friends. He wouldn't put August at risk like that. But he couldn't not react. He just... He owed August something.
"Maybe I don't have much of a choice." He said, his voice oddly level, as he folded his arms. "I'll make up that rota. I'll... I'll make sure I'm out of your way when everyone comes around." He added, finding that it was that sentence that made his voice waver, just for a second. He shut the door and dropped to the door behind it, burying his head in his hands. He reached out and retrieved his headphones, plugged them back into his phone, and turned up the volume as loud as he could bear. He needed to tune out the world somehow, needed to try and calm himself down. He wouldn't let the cracks show.

xxxxxxxxxx--------------------------
"Hmph," the male would speak, before he'd turn around to walk towards his room, realizing he had left his phone in it he'd pick it up to see a few messages from his siblings and his friends. Turning it over he'd flop onto the bed. A loud sigh escaped his lips, he wasn't going to make it through this. There was so much more he wanted to let out, so much fucking anger. So much little irritations that had piled up. But he couldn't express it unless it was through one way. He'd make a movement to get his guitar and move over to the small chair in his room.
Taking out his guitar pick, he would begin to strum absently before he began to play a specific song. "For all the times that you've rained on my parade, and all the clubs you get in using my name," he'd begin to sing. A song he used the last talent-show their school had and had won. He used it as a way to describe his feelings towards the other male, he would just continue to play it humming along.

He was expecting the feeling of tension to drop when he walked out that door, especially due to the fact he still had music blasting through his headphones. But it still hung over him like a shadow, almost worsening as he walked. He needed a distraction. He needed a release. He needed to feel adrenaline pumping through his veins, needed to feel reckless and stupid. So he sent around a few texts asking if anyone knew about parties. Alcohol and if he was lucky, maybe even a fight he wouldn't win.
He kept his headphones in, ignoring the occasionally suspicious and dirty looks he got, as he roamed around the store, picking up stuff he knew they'd probably need. He didn't have it in him to do a proper shop, so just picked up enough to get them through the next few days. Decaf coffee. Normal coffee. Did August even drink coffee? He knew so little about the person he had once called his best friend and that hurt.
xxxxxxxxxx[ dialogue: #72848a ]
xxxxxxxxxx--------------------------
Continuing to strum on his guitar, he'd hear the door shut before he'd return to absently playing the strings. So much was in his mind, out of all people....why Caleb? He could deal with anyone, Kyle Freeman, he could easily handle. The two had never gotten along, so it'd had been extremely easy to just ignore the football star. Anyone else would have worked, but fate decided to fuck him over and give him the one person who he was weak for. The person who hurt him the most, and had left. The person who spoke harsh words as if he had never comforted him. He would place his guitar down, before he'd head out of the room. He'd walk to the kitchen becoming associated with the assortment of cabinets and their contents. Mainly dishes would be in there, he'd grab a glass and fill it with water, before taking a large gulp.
"C'mon Valentine, you can do this."
He'd speak before he'd notice Caleb's message and take out his phone to text him.
august to asshole
um could you get some tea? lemon zinger? i forgot mine at home......
With a heavy sigh the text would send as he'd plop down on the couch and pull up the television before aimlessly flicking through the channels.

It wasn't too far of a walk back to the apartment. The whole way, he'd hoped that August would still be in his room. But no such luck, he could hear the TV on as he reached the door. He made himself take a deep breath as he opened the door, careful not to spill the precious cargo in his hands. He didn't even really look up at August as he made his way over to him and held out the tea.
"I thought iced tea was a safer bet than coffee. Given you specifically asked me to get tea in the store," he said by way of explanation, walking away to start putting away the groceries. "I only drink decaf. For future reference. Not that I expect you to buy me coffee. But just in case."
