Introduction
Shot slides into her trench-coat, bundled up. Her short blond hair tickles at her freckled cheeks. A sip of bitter coffee. She sits down, switching on the television. Flipping through the three channels the TV begins to feel more tedious at the second. Boxing. Infomercial. Good morning Chicago. Repeat. Impatient, she plucks at the frayed rest her arm resides upon. In just mere seconds, she will hear the news on a matter that is much more important to her than the latest android model. The news anchor's smile is too big, too bright. She has the markings, identifying her as an 'engineered human,' flowering across her face in incomprehensible patterns. In a stark contrast to her natural, darker skin tone the markings glow a bright white. They run across her cheekbones. They pour all the way down her neck and shoulders to her fingertips. Shot shudders at the sight of her. Androids freak Shot out. The droid twitches, a bug in the perfect system.
“And n-next up we bring you the latest news on the recent segregation laws put into debate in 2451!” Shot sat up straighter paying more attention, “Congrats on a successful year and I pray that the engineered race serves you well! More after this rations break.” she said through her synthetic smile.
“It was in the tablet. We get three credits towards recreational, twelve towards meals, and four hundred towards electricity.” she groans theatrically. Sure enough, the TV repeats to her what she already knew. However, people who have TV often are incapable of reading this day and age- so really the ration breaks are more of a kindness from the Company than anything else. Se takes another sip of coffee. Again, the android popped up on the screen.
“Heeeeello Chicago! I'm the 2452ssX Beta model, here to bring you the latest news! The segregation of biodegradable and engineered humans has been accepted into the Company. The Three will decide upon what is best for our nation over the course of seven days as usual. The first day will be spent on an android testimony, the second on a bio-man's rebuttal. The third... an android will be disassembled, in the name of knowledge, to see if they are truly worthy of equality; the droid holding this great responsibility is yet to be decided. On the forth they will kill a bio-man to support the equivalent exchange law. A human has already been chosen for this noble sacrifice- Shot Lori Loranne.” she shivers at the sound of her name. The droid looks as if she is taunting Shot, and she can't help but hate her kind a little bit more. Equivalent exchange my sweet ass. They are killing me so they can feel good about examining the inner workings of a computer. Knuckles white, she clasps hopelessly at the armrest. I swear- damned idiots, that's what they are.
“On the fifth day- supporters of the segregation law will collect in the the Chambers of the Council for a day of silence. Then, in accordance, the opposing will for the entirety of the sixth. On the seventh and final day- the Three choose.”
The Basics
Credits are like money. You trade them for goods. One credit is equivalent to one dollar, and certain items are much more expensive than others, so sometimes you have to save up credits just to, say, take a bath (considered recreational, since it is not necessary.)
You can trade credits from one category to the other, if you have a sufficient amount (if you wanted to add one credit to one category, it costs five from another.
Equivalent Exchange- for each android life taken, a human life must be taken as well, and viceversa.
