Remember what happened that time, the explosion at that one In-Tech Research Building? There's more to it than you think: The blast didn't just take out the skyscraper in a seemingly short wave of fire and destruction. There was an even larger wave that 'touched' some people, which we perceived as a burst of light. This is the result of what In-Tech refers to as the 'Puzzle Bombing.' This name came about after the discovery that this mysterious explosion hit certain people nice and hard: on their DNA. There, a couple things got added on. Now we got people who can do all kinds of crazy shit. And In-Tech doesn't like the idea of their secrets starting to spill, one by one. Each 'piece' of the puzzle was a different ability being thrown out to random people, all in varying doses, for better, and for worse.
Some have been forced into hiding.
Some walk among us every day.
Two groups of powerful superhumans are now fighting each other good vs evil style, and the In-Tech Corporation is in on it too, killing, kidnapping, and doing who knows what else to these 'freaks.' You're just another caught in the crossfire, so wise up,and make your decision: Do you want to use your powers right, and for the sake of others? Will you use them to destroy? Can you discover the secrets, and understand why this all even happened?...

These people affected by the blast range into two categories:
The Ahead: They had super-compatible genetics, which allowed their bodies to 'evolve' and become endowed with growing abilities. They have the most control over their abilities, and don't have many as many major negative affects as the mistakes. This does not mean they do not have weaknesses, however.
Their powers are like that of superheroes. They can harness certain forces, improve their internal/external conditions, etc.
(Ex. Elementals, Psychics, those in tune with nature, etc)
The Mistakes: Rather than being compatible, they simply had too much forced onto their genes, which caused them to mutate. As powerful as they are, they can't control their powers as well. Some may have mutated in physical appearance and transform, or are permanently changed for life. Some may even have parasites that require certain substances or materials to thrive, and give them power.
Although they can use abilities similar to the ahead, most of their powers are biological in nature, and regard their bodies more so.
(Ex. Vampiric powers and a thirst for blood, inhuman appendages, shapeshifting, etc)
-
Basic Powers: Here's a couple neutral powers usable by both sides to keep things fair. Note that these do not count as the only powers you can get, these are just default stuff you have regardless who you are.
Sensing: The Ahead and The Mistakes can usually sense when they're near each other, but cannot pin point where the other is.
Combination Powers: Some powers used by two separate people can be used together.
Magnet Power: The Magnetic forces of the Earth have changed recently. Beams of green energy containing magnetic properties can grab, push, and/or pull magnetic objects. Non-Magnetic objects struck with it can be exposed to the energy, and slowly become more and more magnetic themselves, including people. It is also capable of causing some damage from both exposure and various violent uses, such as slamming people or objects around. Two Magnet Blast Beams colliding is a dangerous thing: it can affect the environment more and more depending on the level of power. Whoever wins the struggle gains the magnet energy of the opponent's beam and use it against them, pushing them away with an explosion, or pulling them towards you.
Regen Factor: Aheads and Mistakes can take, and heal from injuries that could kill a normal person.

Weapons and Items:
Weapons and items in the world of Ultragene are as diverse and crazy as the various powers. They seem much like video game weapons from stuff like Bioshock, or Ratchet and Clank.
There are electric shotguns ("Shock Guns"), Plasma Knives, Acid-throwers, Fire Swords, Rocket Launchers, Grenade Pistols, Sniper rifles with ice bullets that can freeze the target either internally/externally, shields with built in laser guns, no weapon in the future is boring!
