A Strange New Earth OOC

Alright, Irish Wolf here again and bored as normal. So I was zoning out this afternoon and remembered watching Life After People (or something like that) last night. For those that don’t know, the show is about what would happen to all the animals in zoos and the buildings if we all just disappeared from the planet, very interesting. To make a long story short, it gave me a few ideas about what an rp would be like if the planet was devoid of humans for a long period of time. I also had watched an episode of The Universe that had a bit about the private Aerospace industry, so that’s getting thrown in there.

In the year 2184, life as remained much the same as it was in the early part of the Twenty First Century, wars raging in various parts of the world, hunger in Africa and the USA looking bad and good as they try to police everyone else. One thing that is more common on the future is the name of one private Aerospace Company; Virgin Galactic and their sub-orbital spaceflights. The success of VSS Enterprise, VSS Voyager and several other vessels has spurred the company one, to build a solar powered space “yacht”, which in true a space station that resembles a ship with the solar panels as “sails”, called VSS Eve.

Around the same time, two other great events happen. First being the perfection of sleeper cells, equipment that would keep a human or other animal in a deathlike sleep for long periods of time, in a sort of deep chill chamber. Such a cell could make exploration of other planets by a human research team or colonization possible.

The second event was a transmission from a deep space probe launched one hundred and fifty years earlier. Not only had it reached a nearby solar system but also it had detected an Earth like planet, which was larger then Earth itself. The new planet was named Terra Two, as the news spread across the globe.

The first company to take advantage of both of theses discoveries was Virgin Galactic, as they build a large colony ship, filled with sleeper cells. The plan was simple, collect enough employees and volunteers to fill the ship with some government scientists and protection specialists, launch her towards Terra Two and claim a whole planet and it’s bounties for the company.

The plan fell apart around the launch stage. After the ship, called VCS Endeavor, was filled with its cargo, the prep crew returned to VSS Eve via shuttle, where the colony ship was going to be controlled from. As the small shuttle entered into the large space station, an explosion ripped through VSS Eve, destroying the floating paradise apart and destroying every other Virgin Galactic vessel.

For a few weeks, as a rescue mission was prepped, rumors flew around about the destruction of VSS Eve. They ranged from religious extremists planting a bomb aboard to the US government launching a nuke at the station to a computer melt down. However, soon those rumors would be quashed but not by a government cover up or the truth getting to the public. Five weeks after the explosion, a massive cloud formation covered the whole sky. Scientists couldn’t explain it, nothing they did could tell them anything about theses clouds, other then that they were just normal water vapor. On the second night of the cloud formation, everyone on Earth disappeared. No bodies, no tracks or notes left behind. It was as if they never had been there in the first place and the cities and towns left behind were just formed by nature.

For over a thousand years, the Earth changed slowly, with those still aboard the VCS Endeavor continuing their slumber. When the power supplies was drained from the massive batteries aboard ship, the automatic safeguards kicked in, deploying solar panels to keep everyone on ice. Until a freak collision with an old satellite knocked the large vessel downwards.

So we’ll be playing as a small band of survivors from the crash, as the ship is going to break up and scatter people around with lots of death on a change New American Continent. Now to character profiles.

Appearance:stands at five feet, ten inches tall, with short red hair, blue eyes and five o’clock shadow. Not a very bulky person, he tends to fall on the leaner or thin side of the line for body mass. Normally dresses in gray or green shirts with blue jeans and brown hiking boots.

Well follow site rules about romance (as will surely pop up if the human race wants to continue) aka take it to pms if your gonna knock boots with someone. I have no problems with language so long as every other word is not a swear and violence is going to happen.

I want something like a paragraph or more (make the words at the bottom of the post window turn green) for each post but shorter ones will be tolerated a few times from each users.

Profession: Engineer in an experimental program concerning a large-scale conservation project of natural flora and fauna to be implemented on Terra Two

Reason for being aboard: Um.. *pokes the above*

Appearance: (at time of freeze) Standing around 5'7", Stella was and is thin in a less than graceful way; her lack of excess weight comes from a starvation diet of frozen dinners and caffeine. She requires her corrective lenses, and can barely see anything without them. Her hair is not the thick, silky volume one sees in commercials of models selling miracle potions, but rather thin and hopelessly lank, a dirty blond shade. She keeps it died back in a pony-tail, it is about shoulder-length. At work she is required to dress fairly formally; black dress slacks and a white button-up shirt with a collar, long sleeves, but outside of work she is more partial to worn out jeans and a sweater or tee shirt, depending on the weather. She usually also wears a fairly weathered ball cap with a baseball team logo nobody save for her and her large family had ever heard of, emblazoned on the front. She is caucasian.

but general kane, I've got a few problems with your character. I said not much had changed by the launch of the VCS Endeavor, so a suit like that would not have been invented and it would not have been allowed in the sleeper cell but put in a storage locker somewhere else. Everyone is lucky I'm letting them have cloths, instead of doing a cold chamber like the ones in Alien where you get only underwear.

Profession: A Zookeeper and Zoologist, An Athiest to the bone, And an Evolutionist.

Reason for being aboard: assigned to taking care of the couple of livestock animals onboard, and to search for life on the planet, along with his Collegue, Ms. Parks, a Microbiologist.

Appearance: 5'11, emerald Eyes, soft nose, Brown short hair, spiked up in a little peak at the front. Tannish skin and a meduim build make him one of those people you don't notice in a crowd.
He entered into the Sleep chamber in Khaki shorts with pockets everywhere, inside and out, A white T-Shirt, and a Khaki overshirt with pockets adorning it's every availible space, all of the items custom made so he could store his various things. Most of the pockets were empy when he climbed into the pod, only a stick of gum and some lint the only possesions on his person.

Appearance: (at time of freeze) Rick is just shy of 6ft tall with a slender tone and piercing blue eyes. He has short, shaggy black hair. Before freezing, normally work baggy jeans and t-shirts which always seemed to be just a size too small.

Name: Dr. Jacob Shaw

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Profession: Infectous Viral and Bacterial Specialist

Reason for being aboard: Shaw's job was to ensure the health of the crew wasn't in danger due to alien disease or bacterium. After that he was to investigate the Terra Two microbiology and it's effect on lab rats. Dr. Shaw used to work for the CDC. When Virgin Galatic called up offering an enourmous sum of money and the chance of a million life times he jumped on board.

Appearance: Jacob stands at a moderate 5'10". His light brown hair is clipped short on the sides with just some left on top and a little more at the bangs. Some would call it a military style crew cut. Jacob is by no means an intimidating figure. He prides himself to keep fit but not fanatically so. As Jacob went into the sleeper cell he had on a simple pair of denim blue jeans and a long sleeve shirt under a brown t-shirt.
