Description

Image
BASIC INFORMATION:

Name: Allan Denton
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Nephilim
Allegiance: Neutral

APPEARANCE:

Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Deep Dark Brown
Description:

This guy is sort of a tall lanky fellow. He stands with a forward slouch and generally dresses down, his aim more for comfort than style. As a matter of fact he tries not to stand out by generally wearing plainer colors such as black, grey and white. Overall people who know him would describe him as a rather miserable looking guy. He rarely smiles and he keeps his eyes mostly down to the floor more often than not.

Combat Attire: Whatever he's wearing at the time, usually a plain t-shirt and beat up blue jeans.
Accessories: If he knows he's going to be in a fight he'll wrap his hands in long thin white cloth or rope in the more traditional Muay Thai style to protect his hands better.

STATE OF MIND:

Personality:

It wouldn't be wrong to call him apathetic. It also wouldn't be wrong to call him pathetic, though maybe less so depending on circumstance.

The most notable attribute of his is that he is dispassionate. This is very often mistaken as laziness as he rarely likes to put any effort into day to day things. He isn't truly lazy as when he believes in something or wants to truly accomplish something he'll work tirelessly at it. The simple matter of fact is that he has almost nothing to work towards. His only real goal in life is to continue living each day, never making any real impact in anything besides the occasional street sign.

A contributing reason to his lack of passion is that he is shy. He doesn't like talking with people in general. Large crowds bother him and the more frequently people talk with him in a day the worse he feels. He is anti-social without a doubt. He can overcome this shyness to function in a human society but he will avoid contact if at all possible.

Due to his frustration with society he is just a very unhappy individual. He doesn't smile often and gets annoyed quite easily. He does have a temper but perhaps a quality of his is his ability to think through stress. No matter how agitated, how angry or how much in pain he is in his brain will always be thinking. He tends to think a lot, spending most of his days in his head just thinking about things. It is one of the few things he enjoys doing.

Though he may be a generally unpleasant character towards people he has a kind side to himself as well. He believes the world is hard enough already without people going around making peoples lives harder. If someone is in trouble he'll help out, even if he isn't happy about it. He likes to help people out in general too but he often doesn't because he dislikes the attention from others more.

A notable trait of his is that he rarely ever lies. He believes that honesty is a quality best not squandered. Well, that and he is a terrible liar. He's never lied once in his life and gotten away with it. He can keep a secret well enough but if he's forced to deceive someone he almost always fails somehow, sundering his faith in his ability to lie. Being that he doesn't believe he can tell a convincing lie he's opted to be honest and turn a personal failing into a quality.

A real quality that's buried deep down in him is a sense of humility. He doesn't see himself as higher or stronger or even better than everyone else. To his eye he's just a guy with a neat trick in a world of people with various stuff, many of which is probably better than what he's got. It can be argued whether his shyness drives his humility or if his humility spurs his shyness but not even he can really answer as to which aspect came before the other. He'd probably say shyness since admitting to being humble would just seem arrogant to him.

In the end he doesn't want any part in this war of heaven versus hell. He doesn't want to be bothered by these factions trying to coerce him into doing their bidding and finds both sides undesirable for various reasons. If a major fight were to break out between the two groups then he'd fight them both to drive them back into their respective realms and protect the people living in the city. He'd take on all the angels and all the demons himself if he had to even though he knows well that it would only end badly for him.

Dislikes:

Preference: Straight
What do you think of your angelic parents?: "Guy left my mother and didn't pay his alimony for eighteen years.
In my opinion he's kind of a jerk."

EQUIPMENT:

Weapons: His body, anything he can use around him.

Close-Range: His style of combat begins right around this range. He's quite competent at Muay Thai giving him powerful kicks and a host of devastating short ranged attacks he can use to brutal effect. On top of that his abilities imbue him with massive strength, allowing him to punch holes through solid concrete and bend solid steel bars. Fairly good at blocking attacks to begin with thanks to his martial training his he can also draw on his internal energy to make himself tough enough to stand toe-to-toe against most weapon users and still come out with little more than scratches and bruises. To top it all off if he does get seriously injured he can always channel his divine energy and heal himself within a short period of time.

Fighting Style: He typically doesn't like to fight so he's rare to initiate but if he did have the choice he'd start his battle at close range as detailed above. If forced to he can fight at a distance but without a gun or any sort of ranged weapon his options are very limited in this field. Since he doesn't carry a ranged weapon commonly his only other options is to close in to his target as soon as possible and change the fight back into his favor or run away if he can.

Abilities:

Allan's main power is that he possesses an internal reservoir of divine energy which functions to empower him, giving him enhanced physical abilities and even the power to heal himself. This power's main restriction is it's "Inner Focus", a facet of the powers nature which amplifies it's power whilst inside him but weakens by at least half it's potency if not more when externalized. Besides enhancing himself he can imbue others with his energy but the strength of the effect would only ever be half as much as his own. The further away from him the target of the effect goes the lesser it's power becomes. This energy replenishes itself over a period of a few hours.

Divine Might:
His main ability, he channels his power into his fists giving them a divine glow. This grants him superhuman strength and one other particular effect. This effect is that his fists cause anything with demonic taint far greater damage than anything else because of the energy present. In addition, he can channel this ability into any weapon he holds, enhancing the qualities of the weapon based on how he wants to use it. By channeling this power into a weapon however it weakens the strength of the enhancement as well as the extra damage towards demonic forces by half. Given very special exception, he can do more damage with his fists than he can using any other weapon. He can extend this power to someone else's weapon but the strength of the effect begins at half it's original value and only goes down the further away from him the weapon is.

Divine Protection:
This ability grant's him enhanced toughness, making him harder to wound. All his flesh in this state is as tough as hardened leather and his bones become as strong as iron. Most weapons find difficulty even drawing blood from him while this ability is active. The only weapons that pose a real threat are ones known for their piercing capabilities, most notable of which is guns. Even guns of lesser calibers might have trouble hurting him should the rounds hit his bones. Whenever he takes damage and this ability is on it draws in more divine energy due to the effort his ability needs to exert. This ability is on passively since it consumes very little energy when it's not being stressed. Like his Divine Might, he can extend this ability to another person giving them about half the durability that it would give himself while still exacting the same amount of energy from his reserve. Just like his Divine Might this ability also wanes in potency as the target moves away from him.

Healing
Perhaps his most important ability. This ability draws on his internal reserve to mend flesh and purify ailments. The greater the wound or ailment the greater the energy cost as well as a the time it takes to fully heal. Scratches and bruises as well as basic illnesses take seconds to heal and do not require too much energy. Deep cuts and serious illnesses require larger amounts of internal energy and take minutes to fully heal. Lost limbs, fatal wounds and mystical afflictions require exorbitant amounts of his internal reserves, his complete undivided attention and it takes hours to be fully healed. The best part of this power is that it can be transferred into other people by touch. The cost of the healing is doubled as well as the time it takes to fully heal but the result is ultimately the same. Unlike the other abilities he absolutely has to be touching the target he wishes to heal in order to heal them. He CANNOT resurrect the dead using this ability.

It is possible that he has more abilities but he has yet to be made aware of them.

HISTORY:
Personal Background:

From the beginning Allan's life was a hard one. He was raised an only son with only a mother to take care of him. From an early age his mother had to dedicate more time to the flower shop she ran in order to keep the family afloat. He only really ever saw his mother early in the morning before he went to school and even then she was much too busy to properly take care of him. He did everything himself since he was forced to take care of himself since his mother was simply too busy to help.

Life at school was no easier. Being as shy as he was he never really made any friends and many of the other students took great delight out of tormenting him as well as anyone else who was unlucky enough to not fit in. He learned very little in the classrooms but out in the playground he learned to be hard, to be tough and to survive. Needless to say the days of his life when he was supposed to be enjoying life and having fun were spent in misery, fear and social isolation. Still, despite all the terrible things the people around did to him he vowed never to become like his tormentors.

Many years of this life he spent like this, resolute on trying not to become the scum of the earth which he had to endure the company of in the hallways and streets. It was at this point he started to realize he had strange powers he wasn't aware of. He went to the places he usually went when he wanted to be alone, places no one else typically went to such as abandoned junk piles, abandoned buildings and the sort. Outside the prying eyes of his peers he practiced, examining these strange new abilities he could now wield. In these places he practiced, testing the boundaries of his strength and improving them. Even with these new gifts he still continued on with life, keeping the power he wielded as a secret only he knew, or so he believed.

Eventually he was starting to come around to an age where he needed to worry about his future. After some web researching he figured his best course of action would be to take the security guard license test online and become a certified security guard. The test was insultingly simple and with a bit of searching he found himself a security company willing to hire him. When he arrived to the job orientation class he found that the teacher there also ran a Muay Thai class over at his studio.

Allan was quite interested in studying this since learning more about how to control his body in combat might help him understand his abilities better. Plus the fitness involved was also useful. He trained and practiced but he made sure never to use his powers in the studio or anywhere else where he could be seen in order to keep it a secret. He would just go back to his own hideouts and practice what he learned with his powers on his own.

About a year or two later and he's been keeping a steady pace in his life. He's no master at Thai Boxing and he still trains there but he's grown to be quite competent at it. His job has him working as security for the local mall on the night shift. Within recent history, just before the starting point of his story, he has managed to save up enough money to rent himself a place of his own: A single room apartment with a bathroom. He's got himself a futon to sleep on and a laptop with a charger. That's about it. This is where his tale begins.

Friends:

- His Muay Thai teacher

Family:

- His Mother
- His Father currently unknown

Enemies: None yet.

So begins...

"Ugh, it's raining again."

In a particularly busy street in the dark city, the red-haired man growled to himself. Falling drops of cold water were battering his head and body as he turned to his companion, a seemingly oblivious looking girl.

"Hey, you! Put this on, you'll catch a cold in this rain."

Lifting the fedora off his head, he dropped his hand down on the girl's head. She shifted from foot to foot and looked up at him. "Aren't you going to catch the cold instead?"

"No, don't worry about me. Either ways, we can't sleep on a rooftop or a tree in this state. We gotta find shelter somehow."

"....We're splitting up again to look."

"You know me too well. So what are you waiting for? Go."

Before Sayaka moved, Sai had already disappeared into the bustling crowd, leaving the awkward girl standing there like a fish out of water. Sighing, she turned to the other side and pushed past, her figure finally disappearing.

A few hours of searching had tired her out as she leaned against a wall heavily.

"This city is too big and dangerous for someone like me."

Suddenly her phone started ringing and buzzing. Pulling it out, she looked at the caller ID.

"Hello?"
"I found us a place to stay. Don't worry, I got everything covered."
"Cool. Where?"
"Look up."

She saw the man smirking at her with the phone raised to his ear. A little feeling of frustration grew inside her as she tucked her phone in, took out something else-

And hurled it at the other, actually managing to nick him on the forehead.

After a while, Sayaka felt awkward again. Sitting on the bed, she looked down at the floor.

"You alright there?"
"....I'm not used to these luxuries."
"Bah, of course you aren't. You slept in a capsule almost half of your life and when you first ran away from me I found you sleeping in a tree."
"The second time I found you, you were bleeding out in an alley."
"...Touche."

Sai looked out the window, sighing.
"Are you sure we haven't got any jobs at all?"
"None. But I heard some detective's been on our race's tail for quite a while now."

The Cambion looked over at his accomplice.
"Do you want me to kill him or something?"
"No, I'm just saying. Besides, you kill to live. You need money. And the prices for assassination are quite high- And you know I'm pretty much dead broke."
"Who knows?"

"The night's so young, don't you think?"

"Well then, Mr. Cambion, what do you want to do?"

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Allan brought a hand up and rubbed at his tired mug, the alarm clock having woken him with it's persistent beeping. He rose from the bed and sleepily pawed at the electronic device, hitting miscellaneous buttons before the right one was pressed bringing the beeping to an end.

As he stood he shrugged the blankets off him, leaving them in a crumpled pile on the bed. He was about to get started with his morning routine but he was suddenly onset by a powerful yawn lasting quite long. When he was finished he looked over at the clock to see the time he had to get to work in. It was currently seven thirty in the evening. He needed to get to work by nine so he had set his clock to wake him up with a decent amount of time to get to the mall where he worked as the night security guard.

Roughly half an hour later

After a meager breakfast of leftover macaroni & cheese he had gotten dressed and ready to hit the road. He stepped from his apartment before shutting and locking the door behind him and went over to the elevator, hitting the down button which called up the elevator. After a bit of rumbling, sounding akin to a penny trapped in an active washing machine, the elevator stopped at his floor. The doors slid open to reveal the rusty and somewhat stained interior of a worn down elevator. Lucky for Allan the elevator was empty. It was not uncommon for the elevator to be rather unaccommadated in the later hours of the day. He went inside and hit the ground floor button, the doors shutting closed rather noisily.

Stepping out from the elevator he made his way out onto the street. Unfortunately Allan had yet to get his driving license so he was stuck with walking to work. Walking may take longer for him than taking the bus but the time he'd save was negligible since the nearest bus stop was at least a ten minute walk in the opposite direction from his work. On the plus side there was a cafe between his apartment and the North Quarantize City Mall. As he came around the halfway point between work and home he stopped at that very cafe like he does every night he works. There was a nice young lady who usually worked the cashier around these times. She was a year younger than him and was working here mainly since it was one of the few places that would hire a young student. She's seen him enough times to pretty much know exactly what he wants to order from there. It wasn't very difficult since his order was simple and he loathed to differ from it.

Hi Allan. One large black coffee like usual?"

"Yup." No real surprises from Allan here. He tapped his credit card to the screen which picked up the card's chip signal and made the payment instantly. Not even a minute later he picked up his coffee from the pleasant girl and went on his way to work.

Some time in the night

The mall definitely had an eerie silence to it. Down in his wing he rarely saw another soul in sight. Quite frankly this was a great job for him. No one was bothering or even talking to him for that matter. It was just him, his rather colorful mind and of course his superpowers. There were cameras of course but they didn't move and he knew where they all faced so he could practice without being caught. Leaning up against a wall down in the food court he glanced at his hand, turning it back and forth. With little else but a desire his whole arm was glowing a brilliant sky blue. The glow was radiating out from beneath the skin, the tissue between the light and the outside world a translucent shadow.

He ventured over to the other side of the food court. Up against the wall between two fast food joints was a soda vending machine. He always thought the 'Do not tip or rock the vending machine' sign was funny for a particular reason. With the power within channeling through his body he reached underneath the rather weighty machine and picked it up with ease. Holding it with two hands he decided to shift the center of the machine over onto his left hand and then withdraw the other. He now had the vending machine balanced on one hand over his head. "Right. Now down to business." He spoke his thought out loud even though no one but him could hear. He started pumping the vending machine up and down with his left hand like it was a large awkward gym weight.

"Four... Five... Si-Woah!" His count was interrupted as the vending machines was suddenly compromised. It started with a very slight wobble. As the machine wobbled his hand moved to try and keep the balance of the machine but wound up over-correcting and causing the vending machine to shake even more. By that point momentum set in sending the machine falling away from his hold. He tried to catch it before it hit the ground but at the speed at which this all took place he was simply an inch short and a second late as it hit the ground with a loud clang. "Well... Crap." He swore in a low voice to avoid drawing any more attention than he might of grabbed already. He looked around to see if any of the other guards were nearby. There was no one to be seen.

Wiping a slight bit of nervous sweat from his forehead he propped the vending machine back up and observed the damage. One of the corners was damaged and it was leaking a fluid he didn't recognize. "Okay... I think I can fix this." He was once again talking to himself out loud. He used his strength to smooth out the crushed corner so that it looked square enough. He really didn't know what to do about the fluid and there was no duct tape in sight so he just set the vending machine back up against it's wall and walked away acting innocent. "Well, I did what I could." He assured himself as he meandered away from the scene of the incident.

That's when he heard it. The sounds coming from the one shop down the hall left from the food court. It was an old curio shop which sold various old and interesting things. He was never really interested in what the shop had in stock, mostly passing it by without a second thought. Right now though he was interested in it for a different reason. He realized that he might of heard footsteps earlier while he was screwing around with the vending machine and now he could hear something moving stuff about. Internally he gave a deep sigh. He really didn't want anything to happen tonight or any other night for that matter. Something happens in his job it always means paperwork. He hated paperwork.

As quietly as he could he unlocked the front mesh blocking the entrance of the shop from the rest of the mall. He had to assume that the potential thief or whatever it might be had come in through the back door. There was no real way to move the metal mesh panels quietly but he did what good he could do, sliding the panels aside and slipping through the narrow space he opened. The panels rattled when they got moved and now the sound of items being moved had suddenly stopped. Slowly creeping forward Allan snuck up towards the source of where the sound was coming from last. As he came around a stand he saw...

Jason took the last bite of his dinner and looked over at his daughter, who had eaten everything but her vegetables.
"Naomi, c'mon. Those vegetables are good for you, and you need to eat them." He tried to convince her. His 4 year old daughter shook her head, her shoulder length hair flying side to side.

"No! It's gross! I don't wanna!" She protested before folding her arms and pouting. Jason's wife Rachel walked in with some pound cake for dessert as she placed it down on the table. She smirked at her daughter and told her "Well, you can't have any dessert unless you eat your veggies."

"B...but, mama!" She whined.

Jason chuckled and ruffled his daughter's hair. "I know that you may not like them, but it's good for you. Tell you what; the faster you eat those vegetables, the bigger the slice of cake you get."

Naomi's eyes quickly lit up as a wide grin replaced her pouting from earlier. "Really?!"

"Yeah, so why don't you go and-"

Jason never got a chance to finish, because he watched in awe and some horror as his daughter wolfed down the vegetables in almost no time at all.

"How big of a slice do I get?!" She asked with a sparkle in her eye.

Jason was too stunned to answer, so his wife cut a big piece and handed it to her on a plate.

After a few more minutes with his family, Jason stood up and excused himself from the table. It was getting late, and it was time for him to go. As he grabbed his trench coat, his wife walked over to him with a worried expression.

"Jason, do you really have to go tonight?" She asked, watching him go through his gun case.

"Sorry Rachel, but I have to. I haven't been patrolling for a few nights, and I heard it's getting kind of bad out there."

Jason checked to see if his two pistols were loaded properly before putting them away in his shoulder holster. He then grabbed all the necessary ammo and tucked it away.

Rachel let out a sigh. "I understand you're doing this to keep us safe, but... I just get scared that you won't come home sometimes," She admitted. "I couldn't imagine Naomi growing up without a father."

He couldn't imagine it either. The detective wrapped his arms around his wife and brought her in for a hug."I promise I'll come back, Just like I always do. I'm not dying until my daughter's all grown up, and I'm in at least my nineties." He joked.

"Heh, with the amount of smoking you do, better make that your fifties."

"Maybe. Well, I have to get going now. Make sure Naomi gets to bed, and don't stay up too late yourself."

After saying his goodbyes, Jason found himself near the mall about an hour later. He had met with the owner of an old curio store earlier today, and he told him about weird things that was happening around his store. Jason convinced him to give him a spare key, so he could check it out later after closing hours. He didn't know if he was dealing with a thief, or a Nephlim or Cambion, but he couldn't turn down this chance.

After unlocking the back door, he walked in a took a look around. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but he had to check the place out. He was startled when he heard a loud *BANG*, but it was the only noise that seemed to echo throughout this near empty mall. He had to check it out later.

Shuffling through the store to find some sort of clue, he searched and moved around items.

"Come on, there has to be something around here..." He thought.

When he heard footsteps drawing closer, he quickly hid behind a stand. The sound of someone fiddling with panels soon greeted him. Could that be the one who was messing with this shop?

Jason slowly drew one of his pistols and made sure there were stun rounds in it. The footsteps grew closer. Jason's heart rate started to accelerate, as he gripped his gun. As the figure walked around the stand, he aimed the pistol right at the man's chest, ready to fire if necessary.

"Don't move. Who are you, and why are you snooping around this place?" He demanded. It was too dark to make out any details on him, so he had to be careful.

Quarantize City. A city where all sorts of souls converge. And it's not just any old soul that is currently moving about in this normal plane of existence. Several different beings have taken roost here.
An old, run-down building. Different people see it differently. For some it appears like a relic of a time forgotten. To others, it was just a ghost of the time when Quarantize was in its Golden Age, with buildings being constructed left and right. Rumors about this office abound as well. Some say that it is a drug laboratory while others think that it was an armory for some armed thugs roaming around the street at night. No one ever bothered to check it out, regardless. People would simply not give any thought about it upon seeing it or avoid it altogether. Right, for them, this building doesn't exist. There was nothing special about it aside from completing the landscape.
Well, of course, this being Quarantize City, almost every corner has a story to tell and this building is no exception. Oddly enough, most stories here starts with someone screaming--

"AAAAAHHHHHH!!!! What do you mean I'm not getting any pay for this month???!!!"
Shino walked over to her employer's desk, slamming her fists onto the table. She found it quite unfair that her pay is docked for this month. This rarely happens so one could probably understand why she's getting all worked up about it.
"It's just as I said. I'll pay you in a week's time so just be patient."
"How come? I just saw 5,000,000.00 got transferred to your account when we made that inquiry at the bank!"
"50,000. You added a couple of zeroes."
"Then how did you spend that much in just a span of a couple of days?!"
"Well, I suppose you'll see it soon so--"
Risaya took out a large, classic style chess set from her desk, dusting off some dirt that accumulated on it. She set it down on the table and opened it to inspect the pieces. The pieces aren't made simply like the much more modern and cheaper sets but, it was carved out of wood, with intricate details where one can see how the pieces actually look like.
"This set is very old. The seller told me that it was from the early 18th century. Well, that was the time when magical study was beginning to prosper so who knows? This set may contain powerful traces of sorcery embedded in it. You can see from the way the pieces are individually carved---"
"I don't care about lengthy explanations. Just get straight to the point."
"It happened to be on sale so I bought it."
Shino sighed and shrunk back to the couch in the center of the room.
"How will I pay my rent and utilities now?"
"Calm down. Look, there is another job offer that we got."
Shino got up at the sound of the word "job" and walked over beside her employer's table, glancing at the folder and files she took out from beneath her other records.
"The client wants to us to look for a man named Ayers Mackenzie and bring him under police protection. He witnessed something but, our client refused to elaborate much further. He was last seen around the North boulevard so you can try asking around there."
"Okay, I'm off."
Shino took the paper that contains the information she needs and walked over to the door. Risaya called out to her and threw something at her. She caught it and placed it in her pocket.
"I've fixed the compass. Try to be careful with it."
"Okay boss."
"Oh, and Shino?"
"What is it? Risaya-san~?"
"Can I borrow some money?"
Shino walked away and slammed the door, her hopes of getting at least a small stipend crushed. Sighing, Risaya turned to the laptop in front of her and continued her conversation with the client.
"You sure about that? I can send in some down payment if you need it."
"Never mind that. Well, what were you saying about an accident?"
"I'm beginning to doubt that it's just an accident. The car was intact but, the body was mauled beyond definition. That witness may be the key here but it's likely that we're dealing with something not of this world, so I thought of calling you guys. So, think you're up for it?"
"I suppose. I normally wouldn't do this if only I didn't need the money."
"Headquarters may assign other detectives to work on this case so I need you to hurry, if you still want the full amount to be paid."
"We'll try but it won't be easy."
The clouds outside finally changed color and a downpour started. Faint sounds of thunder echoed all throughout the office, hampering the mood somehow.
"What do you mean it won't be easy?"
"Well sir, it is hard to solve a murder that took place in a moving sealed room after all..."

"Don't move. Who are you, and why are you snooping around this place?"

Allan could only see a dark figure as it sprung up and produced something. He could barely see what it even was but his imagination could fill in the blanks. He brought both his hands up, not wanting to test his hypothesis.
"What do you mean snooping around this place? I work here." He answered the mysterious figures question. It seemed like a particularly odd question to ask, especially since this guy was the one sneaking around here.

He brought his right hand down and produced his flashlight from his belt. With a click he illuminated the character before him. It was a tall rather thin man with short stubble and somewhat unkempt hair. He seemed to be sporting a long black trench coat covering most of the upper half, a simple pair of black work pants and polished shoes reaffirming the professional but somewhat predictable theme to this outfit. Two definitely notable feature were the badge pinned to his coat and the rather menacing pistol pointed straight at his chest.

Most people would of been more surprised and scared at first from seeing a gun pointed at them but he didn't really react all too strongly. His eyebrows went up but that was about it. He wasn't the type of person to make a big deal about things,
even important things he should probably be more concerned with.

"Don't you guys need warrants to come into places without knocking?" He asked, half quizzically but also half scoldingly.
It was a legitimate question but he also added a twinge of irritation to the tone since this guy was pointing at him with a
lethal weapon and he had the gall to ask why HE was snooping around.

He couldn't tell for sure but having a flashlight shine right into the guys eyes in the thick dark back area of this shop must of been fairly blinding. It was sort of like a headlight effect, or so he assumed.

Jason watched as the figure raised his hands in the air; the classic reaction to having a gun drawn on you.

"What do you mean snooping around this place? I work here."

Jason raised an eyebrow to the response of his question. An employee? This late?

The man reached and brought up a flashlight and shone it right in Jason's direction, causing him to squint his eyes a bit. He could tell the man was examining him, but he kept his gun raised, still waiting if to see if there would be any sudden movements. The detective couldn't see much of him, but he saw a little; neck length black hair and dark colored eyes, whether it was black or brown, he couldn't tell. He also seemed to be another tall and thin type, just like him. He was also dressed like a security guard from the small amount of light on him. Well, that explains why he's here so late.

Judging on the facial expression he wore and the tone of his voice, he was just annoyed to see him here. The young man didn't even seem to be shaken by someone pulling a gun on him in the dark.

"This guy has some pretty tough nerves." He mentally noted.

"Don't you guys need warrants to come into places without knocking?" The young guard asked, a hint of scolding was in his voice.

"I do have a warrant. I'm here on a personal request from the shop's owner himself. I'm checking out this place because he said some weird activity was going on here recently." He explained, raising his left hand to shield his eyes, due to the blinding light starting to affect his eyes.

He put the gun back in his shoulder holster seeing that neither party was threatening each other.

"Don't worry, the gun was loaded with stun rounds, so it wasn't lethal. It's the same as being hit with a powerful tazer, but I don't need to go into those details."

Jason slipped his hands into his trench coat pockets and gave a stern, commanding look towards the young man.

"Now, I have a few questions for you; since you work here at night, you might be able to help me. If you stop shining that light at me, we can go talk in a more appropriate setting,"

He reached into his inner coat pocket and retrieved a cigarette from the packet, before placing it in his mouth and reaching for his lighter.

"Unless you think you need to arrest me for trespassing or something." He added with a chuckle.

Turned out the Cambion had suffered a few wounds from a job before, so Sayaka was the only one awake while the other rested. She had went out, the moonlight illuminating her platinum blonde hair. She wasn't sure what Sai wanted her to do- All he had said was for her to go out and look- But for what? He also said he was picking up some sort of essence coming from a Cambion troublemaker of some sorts, and said Cambion had been on his tail for a while. Basically, look for the guy. She wasn't sure what she was to do- Kill him? Bring him back?

Suddenly she felt a bad presence around the area, in an alley. Using the Homunculus abilities she had been infused with in her body, she tried tracking down the essence- And ended up, in what she already knew, a dark alley. She frowned. Surely this must be the Cambion Sai was referring to. She was picking up another presence, in a curio store near the location, but right now, she didn't care about the Nephilim. As her hand flew instinctively to the Lovely Icedrop, concealed, a sudden force blew her back into the wall. She looked up to see some kind of bulky guy, and the essence radiated from him.

"Now what's a little girl like you doing in here so late?"

"I'd prefer it if you were to address me as something else, sir."

The man raised an eyebrow.

"Oh? And who do you think you are, boss of this--"

He froze. Looking down, he murmured a curse word to himself. His feet were frozen, quite literally.

"Cold feet, sir?"

Sayaka pushed him back and raised the tip of the blade to his neck.

"Joseph Mercurio. Cambion, uses his power to steal from houses to buy drugs. And what are you to Sai Karasu?"

"None of your business."

He snarled at the girl. She glared back, pressing the tip closer.

"What is your problem with him? Why are you following him? Don't speak and I'll pretty much kill you. If my sword doesn't kill you, the ice will freeze every single working organ in your body, including your heart and brain. Without both, you're practically a dead man."

"Alright, alright! I give! This guy offered me more weed if I killed him, okay!? Now can you let me go?!"

Sayaka processed this in her mind, before sighing.

"Shame, I thought I'd get something more."

She lowered the blade, and the man thought he could get away- But she thrust it into his chest, activating the magical ability of ice magic infused within the blade and freezing his heart. Drawing it out, she checked the blade for stains while the man dropped, dead on the ground. Cleaning it, she concealed it again and started off, back to the hotel.

"Why would someone want to kill the son of Marquis Amon, anyway? Bad blood or something? Humans really are weird."

This city was still fairly busy, even with the falling rain. Hordes and hordes of people were walking around here and there. Some were trying to look for something, some were just hanging around and some were probably slaving away just to earn a meager living. But, it seems that in this world, somebody has to be something else if they want to attain their happiness. Something that isn't human.

Shino walked towards an open ATM machine and checked her remaining balance. She surveyed at the street behind her to ensure that no one would just pop out from nowhere and take her or anything.
"Well, this should at least last me for a week maybe."
She withdrew some cash and went on her way, making a mental note to herself to ask some support from her elder brother seeing as how it might take a bit longer for her to be paid by her employer.

Reaching an already closed mall, Shino sat on one of the benches that is still illuminated by some streetlights and read the file. The man named Ayers Mackenzie didn't seem like he was the public type. He was just a normal, unemployed man that was probably coming home from another failed interview when he witnessed a businessman driving by when his whole body suddenly contorted into a weird shape before bursting, his guts spreading all over the inside of his car. The car came to a halt right then and there, without causing much damage.
"This is so depressing..."

Shino closed the file and started for her flat, ready to hit the hay after a disappointing day at work. She passed by a closed curio shop and that's when she heard the noise. It's like the muffled sound of two grown men talking. What they were talking about, she can't decipher well. Seeing an opening in one of the steel plates surrounding the area, she crept closer as quietly as she can. She couldn't see anything since she was behind a bunch of oil containers and was still close to the way out.
"Okay... let's see what fate thinks of my luck."
She took out the compass and waited for it to do its job. The arrow spun around a few times before fixating itself in the direction behind Shino and fluctuating, like some sort of electric shock went through it.
"Well that sucks. When will I actually find my own case where this compass won't remind me that it's beyond my capability to handle."
She tried to squint through the small gaps a little harder but she just couldn't see anything. Some guy had a flashlight pointed at that direction so the light was obscuring her line of vision. Picking up the compass, she decided to leave the area... like her compass told her to.
"Okay Shino, be a good apprentice and hightail it out of there."
As she was sneaking past though, her foot accidentally knocked over one of the containers, creating a loud thud as it crashed down.
"Oh no..."
She bolted it out of there without much delay, raising her hood up to conceal herself. She continued running until she reached a noodle shop a few blocks away. She ordered a bowl and scarfed it down to calm her nerves.
"I should have gotten away. It's rather dark and I had my hood up so they wouldn't be able to tell..."
She smacked her cheeks with both of her hands to snap herself back.
"This is what you get for sticking your nose into matters that don't involve you anyway! Dumb Shino!"

"I do have a warrant. I'm here on a personal request from the shop's owner himself. I'm checking out this place because he said some weird activity was going on here recently."

Huh. So this guy does have a warrant. That's odd. He was confused even more than he was before. Usually his supervisor informed him if there was anything notable going on in his part of the mall. He had absolutely no idea prior to this meeting that the police officer was going to be coming in through the back door and rooting around. "Personal request from the shop's owner huh?" He remarked, still not thoroughly convinced. The situation was a little hard to swallow, some pieces were missing from this puzzling dilemma which left room for suspicion.

"Don't worry, the gun was loaded with stun rounds, so it wasn't lethal. It's the same as being hit with a powerful tazer, but I don't need to go into those details."

He scoffed a bit at the somewhat convoluted explanation behind the gun. He already didn't trust this guy, something just seemed off about the whole scene. "Pretty fancy handgun disguise for your tazer." It seemed awfully fishy that a guy would happen to have a gun with stun rounds in lieu of a standard police issued tazer which definitely did NOT look like a sleek handgun. To top it all off the guy wasn't even dressed in a police officers uniform, just the badge which in his defense did seem real. With the black trench-coat and attire the guy seemed more like a film noir-esque detective than an actual cop. Does this guy fancy himself a detective or something? Just who does this guy think he is? He had time to wonder this in the pause between his own statement and the police man's.

"Now, I have a few questions for you; since you work here at night, you might be able to help me. If you stop shining that light at me, we can go talk in a more appropriate setting, Unless you think you need to arrest me for trespassing or something.""

Allan kept a cautious eye on this guy. He didn't trust this guy quite yet but he did turn off his flashlight. He slowly holstered the flashlight, his eyes fixed on the guy to make sure this strange character doesn't make any sudden movements. As the man casually reached in his pocket Allan's hands tightened into fists. Not enchanted fists, no special effects or anything... For now. He was wary of what the man was producing from his jacket, ready to react incase it was bad.

It was just a cigarette. He never cared much for the smell of smoke and smoking inside the mall was technically illegal anyways. "Sir, I should remind you that there is no smoking inside the mall." He spoke with an almost typical security guard-esque cadence to his words, not exactly dogmatic or oppresive but still commanding to some extent. He had repeated that phrase numerous times during his time here and it sort of became just a sort of phrase that comes out naturally when that particular eventuality is approached.

"Now I'm not sure exactly what to think about all this. I'm free to answer your questions but I'm definitely going to have to talk with my supervisor about it A-S-A-P" He never liked having something happen when he was on shift at the mall. Incidents with no real clear guide lines to follow made for the worst nights he's had in security and this one was going on the list without a doubt.

Clang!

The sound of a large metal object clattering on the ground rang out from behind the policeman. Though he didn't really trust the man with the badge his attention was dominated by the arrival of the second intruder. He walked clear past the man over towards where the object fell. "Alright, stay right where you-" He was speaking with a slight growl, the frustration in his voice peeking through a bit more this time when he was suddenly cut off as the other trespasser suddenly darted for the exit.

"Hey! Stop! Give whatever you stole back!" He yelled at what was most probably a thief as he gave chase, following what seemed to be a slender hooded figure right out the exit and down the alley. This person was quite fast but he wasn't slow either. His agility also assisted in closing the gap between them as he made a clean jump onto a closed dumpster in between him and the escaping criminal, sliding across it and coming right off the other side back into a full sprint now hot on this deviant rogue's tail. The pursuit was almost at it's conclusion as he was almost close enough to grab onto this hooded thief's hood when he seemed to catch a sight out of the corner of his eyes.

He came to a dead halt and gave this rather gruesome a double take, unable to peel his eyes away. Laying on the frosty ground in the alley was a dead body. It had a clean hole through the chest and the skin around the point of impact were a bitter white from the frost bite. A pool of blood slowly leaked from the wound like molasses since the corpse was so cold. "Oh... Dear." Was all he said as he looked on at the scene of the murder

Jason's eyes were relieved from the bright light as the security officer put the flashlight away, although he still felt some tension between the two. He couldn't blame him; a man with weapons wearing all black sneaks into your place of work at night and claims to have permission even though no warning was given to expect his arrival. He would be skeptical too about anything said to him.

"Pretty fancy handgun disguise for your tazer."

Jason smirked at that remark. It did seem weird to some people that he carried rounds for his handguns that stunned people like a tazer, but he liked them. Tazers had short reach, while stun rounds fly as far as any other bullet, making it more effective. As he lit his lighter, the guard told him that smoking in the mall wasn't allowed. Seriously? Even after hours? Deciding not to argue with him, he put the cigarette and lighter away to enjoy later.

"Now I'm not sure exactly what to think about all this. I'm free to answer your questions but I'm definitely going to have to talk with my supervisor about it A-S-A-P."

That was understandable, it was part of his job.

"No problem, I can help clear things up with your-"

CLANG!

Jason spun around to the source of the noise, and the guard chased out someone wearing a hood while yelling at them to give back what they stole. Jason sprinted after them, drawing his gun again and trying to angle a shot on the fleeing suspect. It was too tough to get a shot with them so far ahead, and the security guard in the way as well. Jason cursed under his breath as he was keeping up, but let out a small sound of surprise when the young man slid over a dumpster without slowing down at all.

"Nerves of steel with moves like that? This kid's special." He chuckled internally.

The pair was catching up with the figure when the guard completely halted, causing Jason to almost bump into him. He let out a couple of pants before yelling,

"Why are you stopping?! We almost caught-"

He noticed the body on the ground.

"Oh shit..."

Jason walked over and kneeled down next to the corpse; it wasn't a pretty sight. Hole in the chest with frost bite around the wound. He pushed the hooded figure to the back of his mind; this was more important.

What he didn't understand was the frostbite. What could of done this? The figure they were chasing?

"Doesn't look like a gunshot wound, more like a knife or sword," He mumbled, pulling out a note pad and pen and recording this.

"Looks like a Nephlim or Cambion could've done it, judging by the freezing around the wound. ice abilities maybe?" He wondered out loud.

Allan didn't really have time to collect his wits to make a judgement on what he thought about this situation before the cop came right up behind him, stopping uncomfortably close to him. From the excited dialogue followed by the pause it seemed he also had just come up to the same conclusion Allan had.

He kept his distance but had come over to look at the body as well. The dead guy didn't look like the sort that wouldn't pick a fight to begin with. He had his sleeves torn off at the shoulder, his arms decorated with what seemed to be gang tattoos of some sort.

"Doesn't look like a gunshot wound, more like a knife or sword,"

The cop was narrating his deductions in a low mutter while writing the details down. Allan was no expert on wound types but he did agree with the analyses. A gunshot would of left a bigger mess of the exit wound compared to a blade. Looking over the guys body he also saw that the dead man's feet were frozen to the ground. "Don't forget to add frozen feet." He mentioned to the policeman.

"Looks like a Nephlim or Cambion could've done it, judging by the freezing around the wound. ice abilities maybe?"

Now this was the point in the police officers musings where Allan was officially out of the realm of things he might know and was now venturing into the realm of things he's never even heard of. He knew well enough about the fact that he had abilities but until this point the prospect that others would have them too was little more than a theory. As for the whole Nephilim and Cambion thing he didn't even have the slightest clue what either of those two words could of meant.
Could those be people like me? Monsters of some sort or something else entirely? He simply stood there rather dumbfounded with what the cop was going on about.

"Sorry to interrupt you but what's a Nephilim? And a Cambion for that matter? Are ice abilities common for those things you just said?"

Jason heard the guard mention frozen feet, and sure enough, the man's feet was frozen to the ground. He nodded towards him in gratitude towards the detail he missed.

Jotting down the last of his notes, he started to rub his chin in thought. Who ever did this knew what they were doing, and they left quickly while leaving very little traces of their presence. Nothing was overturned or disturbed in the area, and nothing was left behind. Not to mention the fact that there was very few people out this late, and that he saw that hooded figure earlier; it was too big of a coincidence.

He had to track down the one they were chasing earlier, it was the closest thing to a lead they had.

As he stood up on his feet, he heard the guard ask him something, a question he should of expected.

"Sorry to interrupt you but what's a Nephilim? And a Cambion for that matter? Are ice abilities common for those things you just said?"

Jason's eyes widened slightly at the question before he realized that he was the one responsible for bringing up the names first.

"Oh boy. He's going to want an explanation, or he's going to think I'm crazy." He thought. What was the best way to explain something like this to someone while seeming believable? Either way, he had to say something.

"Well, it's a long story. I can give you the short version, but on my way back to my car near the shop we left. The person who ran from us earlier is the closest thing we have to a lead right now, and we have to find them."

The detective put the notepad away and headed for the alley exit.

"Don't worry about the body, I'll report about it after this. Let's go, we have to go catch this guy."

As he was about to leave the scene, he realized that he wasn't giving this young guard much choice in the matter; and he didn't want to force him. He turned back towards him and rubbed the back of his head in a bit of embarrassment.

"Well... that is if you want to come with me to catch the person stealing from the shop you're responsible for watching. If not, I can just leave you back to your job, and I'll contact you later with the results of my search."

Jason stopped speaking and let the kid decide for himself. He secretly hoped that he would decide to come with though; he had tough nerves, was fast and strong, and the somewhat apathetic vibe he was giving off reminded him how he used to be a few years ago. He would make a pretty good partner for the time being, but he also didn't want to put him in danger.

He fished out the cigarette from before, lit it, and took a drag from it, savoring it for a second before exhaling slowly, calming his nerves for what would be a crazy explanation on the divine and the demonic his way back, no matter what the security guard's answer was.

'Well," Jason tapped his cigarette as some ash fell on the dark alley floor. "What do you say?"

"Well, it's a long story. I can give you the short version, but on my way back to my car near the shop we left. The person who ran from us earlier is the closest thing we have to a lead right now, and we have to find them."

He nodded to the officer in agreement but not necessarily for the same reason. They needed to find the hooded robber but he only really needed to do so because otherwise he'd of really screwed up by letting one intruder sneak in and distract him while another just swiped something straight from under his nose. If he could catch the thief then what happened would be cast in a different light. Either he'd have successfully catching a thief in a muddled mess of events or he got distracted and letting the culprit get away with it. He knew which result he wanted his boss to see.

"Don't worry about the body, I'll report about it after this. Let's go, we have to go catch this guy. Well... that is if you want to come with me to catch the person stealing from the shop you're responsible for watching. If not, I can just leave you back to your job, and I'll contact you later with the results of my search."

"Look, this whole thing is already a mess. I might as well come along and make sure this big disaster doesn't get worse." He reluctantly accepted the officer's offer. He was just hoping to be done with this comedy of errors and be back to his shift before his work thinks he's been kidnapped. On the plus side his work is pretty apathetic about checking in on their guards. There was rarely a radio check from the control room to all radios and the only time another guard would walk on by where he was supposed to be was around the halfway point in his shift so his area of the mall could be watched while he took his half an hour break. He was really hoping this whole ordeal would not drag on for hours.

He turned the volume on the radio clipped to his belt down as nothing the people on it might be saying would have any significance right now. Walking back out to the street he looked out in the direction the criminal they were chasing had darted off to. He remembered seeing the thin rogue run down the left path at the T intersection just ahead. Beyond that he didn't have much of an idea of where the figure went.
"I think I saw him run left at the lights here. Unless you got a better idea, lets go." He said, making his way down the street. He wasn't running but he wasn't just idling down the sidewalk either. It was more like a determined march than anything else. If the cop had a different way of getting them to their target then he'd follow him but regardless of if he was behind him or ahead of him Allan just marched on down towards where he thought this trickster could of hidden away at.

Funny how misconceptions abound this city. A simple curious soul can be mistaken as a killer, an innocent girl may be a hidden monster, and some monsters are actually nice for a change. In this city, it is hard to find someone to trust. Every second, someone gets stabbed in the back. Motive? No one knows.

As Shino finished up her noodles, she took a good look around her surroundings. Her pursuers, if they were still pursuing her, were nowhere in sight yet. She decided that it would be best to get out while she still can. Picking up her stuff, she made her way cautiously to the door when a girl caught her eyes.
"She looks weird. She doesn't seem like she's from around here. A foreigner, maybe?"
Just then, she felt the sharp fluctuation of her compass detector. She took it out and saw the arrow pointing to the girl. She quickly hid it again and walked outside.
"Magical energy? Coming from a human? It's almost impossible. But--"
While still thinking about it, she immediately hailed a cab and got inside, telling instructions to the driver to get to her apartment. She wondered more about that girl in the shop.
"She looked more like one of those dolls that Boss makes. But, since the compass fluctuated, could she possibly be a Nephilim or a Cambion?"
She had no way to tell, and that's causing her unease. She would have loved to stay and chat to find out more but, with some people looking for her, it wasn't exactly a luxury she could afford. She glanced back behind the cab just to make sure if she had really lost her pursuers since the traffic is already getting worse. She seemed to see a couple of men arrive at the intersection near the noodle shop but, since the cab was moving, she couldn't tell any notable features. Nevertheless, the feeling of unease stayed with her until she reached her apartment.

"If you don't mind, can you wait for me a bit? I'll pay you extra. I'll just get a few things and then I'll tell you where to go."
The driver agreed and Shino proceeded inside her room. She took most of her valuables and personal belongings and stuffed it in a bag. She also changed her clothes and left the old ones here. Locking up her flat, she ran back to the cab and asked him to take her to the Fujyou Highlights near the Oriental side of Quarantize. There is only one safe place she can think of hiding.

Knock, knock, knock, knock!
Shino furiously banged the door of Risaya's main office. Her boss came out, decked in a red night gown, rubbing the sleep off her eyes.
"Oi! What are you doing here?! It's already nighttime mind you!"
Without letting her finish, Shino stormed in and tossed the bag on the table while walking to the sofa and curling up there. Her employer locked the doors and approached her.
"What's the matter? Why did you come back?"
"I ran into some trouble earlier, and now--this is probably the only place where I can be safe."
"Tch, you and your antics. Go ahead and sleep there. Just don't wake me up again."
Risaya walked back to her room, leaving Shino in the living room all by herself. She left the lights on in case Shino needs something. After a few minutes, she got up and decided to do a bit of research on her assignment. She booted up the laptop and accessed the files for her assignment.
"There was a murder downtown wherein a high-profile businessman was killed in his own car. Upon investigation, his body was horribly mauled and mutilated, his ID and the DNA tests the only proof that the carcass belonged to the businessman. The car was locked when the police investigated it, ruling out any foul play within or external assault. There is however, a large crack on the windshield where a large bullet may have gone through though, there weren't any bullets uncovered at the crime scene. Some locals claim that he was probably another victim of "Big Sniper", a notorious killer in this city..."
Shino flipped to the next page, remembering the Big Sniper rumor. Supposedly, this was a vigilante that sprung up around four years ago and started killing off some corrupt and vile people by sniping them. How much of it is true, well, Shino doesn't know.
"The only witness was an unemployed man by the name of Ayers Mackenzie though, no one was able to find him as of yet. He does hang out a lot on North Boulevard though. I'll visit there tomorrow."
Shino shut off the laptop and threw her body on the comfortable sofa there. She felt secure in the fact that no one can find this building easily.
"Ahhh!!! I hope the whole mess blows over by tomorrow!"
"Would you stop screaming?!"
Risaya complained from her bedroom against the loud noise. Shino muttered a quick apology and slept there, using a blanket she got from the chairs.

Jason nodded his head with a smirk at the acceptance of his offer, but was a bit surprised to see the guard walk ahead of him, pointing out where he thought the suspect ran before moving at a speed level below jogging. He must of really wanted to catch this guy; his job could be on the line.

Jason jogged until he caught up with him and started moving the same pace, keeping an eye out for anything significant. The sound of their footsteps on the concrete below and a passing car every now and then was the only noise heard for a moment until Jason decided it was time to answer his question.

"So... uh," Jason searched for the man's name tag, forgetting that they hadn't introduced themselves yet. He quickly spotted it and tried to remember it: Allan Denton.

"Allan, right? Name's Jason Tetrick. Just thought I should get those introductions out the way." He introduced as he flicked the now finished cigarette into a nearby trashcan.

"To answer your question from earlier, Nephlims and Cambions have been around for a long time, but they become more active at night. Believe it or not, Nephlims are half angel, while Cambions are half demon."

He let that first bit of information sink in before continuing.

"A lot of them can blend into society, but some just prefer to stay hidden until the city sleeps. They've been at war for a long time, and I've taken a personal stake in trying to get to the root of the fighting, and see if there's anything I can do to stop it. I may be way over my head, but I just want to help keep this conflict under control, and stop if from spreading to the general public."

After several more steps, Jason spotted his 4-door grey sedan parked neatly over the side of the road. "There's my car." He pointed out.

He dug into his pockets until he found his keys and shut off the alarm before opening the door and stepping in.

"Get in, this is faster than walking."

Jason turned on the engine and headlights and waited for Allan to get settled before pulling away from the curb, and heading the direction where the thief disappeared off to.

"Now, Nephlims and Cambions can have a variety of abilities," He continued. "They aren't very predictable. I've seen super speed and strength, heightened senses, fire or other elements, and even ice powers today. Pretty crazy stuff 'eh? I hope you don't think i'm crazy yet, but you saw proof earlier."

As Jason turned a corner he saw a noodle shop, one of the only places open this late. The thought crossed his mind of stopping there and asking questions, but he saw a figure similar to what they saw earlier step outside. Small-ish frame with a hoodie, and looked kind of paranoid. Could that be them? It was too dark to make out too many details, but when he saw them get in a cab, he knew he had to follow. If this was the right person, he couldn't let them get away.

"I think I found them, but we need to tail them to be sure. Do me a favor,"

Jason reached into his pocket and handed him his notepad and pen.

"Can you write a reminder to come back here later? You know, in case this is the wrong one."

When the cab pulled away, Jason tailed it, staying several car lengths behind the whole time.

"Looks like I have to tell you more later. I have to focus."

Jason was used to tailing people, so he felt at ease tailing this one. As long as he stayed at a good distance and didn't look suspicious, they would be fine.

After following the cab for a bit, it stopped at an apartment and the suspect got out the cab, but it didn't leave. Jason pulled over and shut of his headlights. To his surprise, they came out with different clothes on, and they were off again. Ah, the classic swap clothes to avoid suspicion tactic. Jason was used to suspects pulling this stunt too, but he had to commend the thief of thinking of it.

"Jot down this address too. It could be their home, or hideout." He ordered.

When he was wondering how long this would last, they entered a somewhat old area of the city. The cab dropped of the thief in front of an old run down building. Jason once again pulled over and shut off his headlights.

The door opened for the thief after banging on it, and someone answered. He couldn't see who they were talking to from this angle, but they let them in regardless.

"Bingo." Jason smirked and shut off his engine.

He stepped out of the car and opened the trunk, revealing a case hidden within. After opening it with a -click-, he pulled out his stun gauntlets, and removed his trench coat before slipping them on.

"They could have a lot of friends in there, better safe than sorry." He said to Allan, knowing that he'd be little curious/bewildered on where the extra armor came from.

After pressing a button on it, the gauntlets crackled with a small amount of electricity. Good, they were still in good condition. He slipped his trench coat back on, hiding the gauntlets from plain sight minus the black gloves.

"Thanks for helping me so far, but this could get heavy. If you don't want to drop out, lets go knock."

Something resonated throughout the night. Normally, the place's barriers would have steered people away except for the people who were given special exceptions. The Master of the place woke up and surveyed her office on the fourth floor. Her assistant lay sleeping but, she saw a car parked outside from her window.

The girl sighed to herself. It's not everyday that people enter this place. And it's not everyday that people get out.

Risaya walked away from the window and headed to the office. Taking off that impractical piece of clothing, she slipped on her usual garb and took the suitcase with her.
"To get to this floor, they would have to go through a different series of floors, each with its own set-up."
She closed her eyes, remembering the way she set her base up.
"My office is stationed on the fourth floor. I've taught Shino how to reach me here without going through all other set-ups so, it is safe to assume that they'll have to go to the normal route. That would mean going through the first to third floors. The elevators don't work so they'll pass through the stairwell. The second floor is where my atelier lies. That's pretty dangerous considering all the obstacles in that floor. Ghosts, portals to other dimensions, tripwires and predatory familiars. But if there's one thing I cannot risk-- it's the armory."
Activating her building's cameras, she zoomed in on the two people outside the door. One seemed to be a security guard while the other looked like a detective. Zooming in, he had some sort of contraption on his hands that he concealed with his trench coat and black gloves.
"You sure have caused quite the trouble for us."
Risaya eyed at her sleeping assistant. She set up a dimensional rift at the office's front door that will teleport anyone who steps in, back outside. She passed through the same passageway she taught Shino so she won't be pestered by the traps and intercepted the intruders before they can enter the building.
"I assume you have a pretty good reason for coming here, officers."
She greeted them outside, still carrying the suitcase lest things get nasty.
"This place is private property. I don't recall calling anyone to check this out."
Two against one. Not a good situation.

"Allan, right? Name's Jason Tetrick. Just thought I should get those introductions out the way."

Jason had introduced himself to him. Allan almost forgot that he was wearing his security name tag. His hand went up and felt the small plastic card pinned to his chest before realizing as much. Ah. Makes sense. He confirmed after learning just how he had gotten his name.

"To answer your question from earlier, Nephilims and Cambions have been around for a long time, but they become more active at night. Believe it or not, Nephilims are half angel, while Cambions are half demon. A lot of them can blend into society, but some just prefer to stay hidden until the city sleeps. They've been at war for a long time, and I've taken a personal stake in trying to get to the root of the fighting, and see if there's anything I can do to stop it. I may be way over my head, but I just want to help keep this conflict under control, and stop if from spreading to the general public."

He absorbed the information he was given. It wasn't too hard for him to accept the ideas this guy was expositing. Up until now his best guess as to what this whole deal with him having super powers was had something to do with either gamma radiation or mutation. The explanation Jason had given definitely sounded like it had a lot of history behind it. A detail that didn't exactly sit well with him however was the fact that this whole spiel had an awful lot to do with the divine.

Now he didn't know if he even belonged to these groups or if this was just the tip of the iceberg of different things he could be but if in the possible circumstance he happened to be a part of one of these aforementioned groups it would mean he'd be spiritually related to them or something. That was the last thing he'd ever want. If that meant a bunch of dudes with wings or horns would show up at his door and demand he go fight or some other stupid idea then he was going to have to figure out this whole situation soon and stop it before it ropes him in somehow.

They eventually reached the guys car. "Get in, this is faster than walking." Jason had got into the drivers seat.
Allan just shrugged his shoulders. Well I'm already screwed back at work. Might as well do something with the time I'm likely not going to get paid for. He sat down in the passengers seat, putting his seat belt on as they set off.

"Now, Nephlims and Cambions can have a variety of abilities, They aren't very predictable. I've seen super speed and strength, heightened senses, fire or other elements, and even ice powers today. Pretty crazy stuff 'eh? I hope you don't think i'm crazy yet, but you saw proof earlier."

"Nah, I don't think you're crazy. As a matter of fact-" He was about to give his side of the story regarding this crazy tale of angels and demons silliness when the guy cut him off mid-sentence.

"I think I found them, but we need to tail them to be sure. Do me a favor," Jason passed a notepad and a pen over his way. "Can you write a reminder to come back here later? You know, in case this is the wrong one."

Allan noted and jotted down the information on the paper. 'Golden Palace Noodles on Main Street - Come back here or something like that I'm not exactly sure.' He wrote down those exact words.

"Right. Done. So back to what I was about to say-" Allan couldn't finish as he was once again interrupted. "Looks like I have to tell you more later. I have to focus." Jason proceeded to tail the cab of the thief they were chasing. "Right. Shutting up now." He kept silent for the rest of the ride so Jason could keep his eyes on the prize.

After some time driving about they arrived at the culprit's destination: A crappy apartment.
Because I haven't seen enough of those. He kept that sarcastic remark to himself. After a bit of waiting they saw a similar sized figure wearing different clothes step back out into the same cab. It could of just been a coincidence but it seemed much too fishy to simply let it be. Apparently the cop thought the same.

"Jot down this address too. It could be their home, or hideout." Jason ordered. '2020 King Street - Thieves Den?' He wrote that down like he was asked. Well, maybe not entirely like he was asked but he was indifferent to the small specifics.

After some more time spent carefully tailing the same cab about they came up to another building. It was a most peculiar building. The whole thing had a sort of off-putting nature to it like he wasn't supposed to be there or something to that effect. Regardless to this it seemed as though this was their final destination as they both stepped out of the car. Jason popped open his trunk to reveal a secret case housing some rather neat looking gloves. "I'm sure all the cops get issued these, right?" The question itself was rhetorical, he was just being snarky. The gauntlets crackled with electricity before the guy hid them underneath his big coat.

"They could have a lot of friends in there, better safe than sorry." Jason mentioned as he was preparing to approach the tall somewhat rugged building. Allan didn't have much to add to that so he just kept his mouth shut.

"Thanks for helping me so far, but this could get heavy. If you don't want to drop out, lets go knock." He offered him the opportunity to back out of this as they approached the door. "I've wasted a lot of time out here. If I walk away with nothing to show for it I'm gonna be downright peeved. Lets just get this over with." He stood to the right of Jason as his new acquaintance knocked on the door.

He expected there to be more than just the one guy at this location but the person who answered the door didn't exactly fit into the expectations. It was a woman that was somewhat taller than the figure they were chasing though she was still roughly ten inches shorter than him. The difference between their height was lessened by the fact that Allan usually stood slouched forward, lowering his apparent height to some extent. As for the woman she would probably be classified as lovely by many. Relatively thin, clear skin and well proportioned facial features.
She bore many features of what many would consider beautiful. Allan barely paid any notice to her appearance, more concerned with his problems than the person standing before him.

"I assume you have a pretty good reason for coming here, officers." She greeted them, incorrectly lumping him in
with Jason. "This place is private property. I don't recall calling anyone to check this out."

Allan just stood to the side and a little bit back behind Jason with his hands in his pockets while looking down at his shoes silently hoping they'll finish chatting so they can go catch the thief and return whatever he/she/it stole from the store.
After all, it was getting a bit close to his lunchtime and he was pretty hungry.

Jason knocked on the door and it was opened almost immediately. The person who answered definitely wasn't someone who he expected to see here. A young woman, with features that he could tell many people would find attractive. It reminded him of his wife Rachel, when he first met her.

"I assume you have a pretty good reason for coming here, officers. This place is private property. I don't recall calling anyone to check this out."

He mentally shook away the memories and focused again. This woman is going to want an explanation. Then again, so did he. She didn't look too happy, but the most curious thing about her was the briefcase she was holding. Why would she answer the door with it?

He cleared his throat before speaking, trying not to sound intimidating.

"Hello ma'am. My name is Detective Jason Tetrick, and this-" He pointed behind him with his thumb. "is Mall Security Allan Denton. It's late, so I'll get to the point. I was investigating a curio shop at the mall when me and Officer Denton here saw someone sneaking around. They had a small frame, and wore a hoodie. When we spotted them, they took off, running away from us. While we were chasing them, we discovered a corpse lying in the alley nearby with a hole in his chest." He explained, leaving out the detail about the ice. He didn't want to seem weird to this woman; it could only complicate things.

"So we followed them to this location. The person who entered this building a few moments ago is wanted for questioning for thievery and murder. Ma'am, these are very serious charges, and I would like to ask them a few questions to see if they're really the one responsible, of if there is a misunderstanding."

Jason's eyes took a quick glance at the briefcase, still curious about it. This was a mysterious part of town, and he personally felt a little on edge, but he hoped it was just him; the less tense the atmosphere was, the easier it was to get everything settled. Unfortunately, nothing in this situation was calm.

"So, may we please come in, ma'am? We won't be long." He finally requested.

"Please say yes and don't complicate this..." He thought, hoping he didn't get into a fight today. Who knows how many more people could be in this building, let alone if they were hostile or not.

"Damn it Shino! What did you do this time?"
Risaya cursed quietly in her mind at her assistant's carelessness. Regardless, she just can't hand her in. Time is against them and they have to find Mackenzie fast. Getting these two off her tail will prove to be a challenge.
"Personally, I find your story to be a bit odd. If you think the figure who was around that shop was responsible for both murder and theft, then it was a pretty impressive feat indeed if he managed to pull off a murder in a matter of seconds while you were chasing him."
Risaya sensed something wrong with that story. Not that her assistant was in trouble but the fact that a murder was committed, and these two enforcers of the law saw it.
"Are there more Nephilims and Cambions here than I originally thought?"
"Plus, before you can accuse that person of theft, you'd normally do an inventory check to see if anything was missing. Otherwise, how would you know that it was theft?"
She motioned for the two to enter the building with her. She was the master of the place and she can easily trick the perceptions of all manner of creatures, including angels and demons. Deceiving hybrids are easy.
"The first to third floors of this building are vacant. Look."
She showed all of the first floor area, revealing that it is indeed empty. She did the same to the second and third floors though, she had to exert some of her energy to inform her traps that she is walking by. The traps immediately deactivated, turning the whole second floor into a normal vacant area.
"The third floor was once a printing office. They moved out a few years back when the more modernized and larger skyscrapers were built in the city's central."
Of course, this was just a decoy. Her armory was concealed in a parallel set-up made possible through the Second Magic, Kaleidoscope. A powerful perception that tricks the eye. It turns a visible thing invisible, even to eyes of the other world. She led them to the fourth floor. She didn't go through the main door. Instead, she led the others around a roundabout path, with more Kaleidoscope tricks, making her office appear as a regular studio room with an office built into it.
"The fifth floor and rooftop are vacant. I mostly use it as storage and such."
She was talking to them near the coffee table and TV set. Or it appears that way. In reality, Shino was already sleeping right in front of them. Risaya knows this fact only in her mind. She as well, can't see her.
"Shall we get moving?"
She finally led them to the last two floors. It was easy to let them see everything in these last two floors since there was nothing suspicious in those places. Well, aside from the vast abundance of used TVs in the storage. Leading them to the rooftop and showing them that part was easy, since it was just one big, empty plot. After making rounds around the building, she finally led them back outside.
"Sorry for the tiring walk but, the elevators of the place don't work anymore. As you can see, there is no one else in this building but me. It would be wise to check all the other buildings aside from this one. The Fujyuo highlights were designed with symmetry in mind, so it is easy to confuse one building for the other. I can't speak for the other building since this unit is the only one I own but maybe you can get the owners to show you around if they want."
Risaya faced the two as they stood outside the building again.
"Although, don't you want to attend to that dead guy you mentioned just now? It's a bad idea to leave it lying around lest it causes public uproar."

"Personally, I find your story to be a bit odd. If you think the figure who was around that shop was responsible for both murder and theft, then it was a pretty impressive feat indeed if he managed to pull off a murder in a matter of seconds while you were chasing him."

Allan didn't react though he did take the words to consideration. It seems well possible to kill someone in a running escape though the guy seemed pretty dead by the time we passed him which wasn't too long after the other dude passed it.

"Plus, before you can accuse that person of theft, you'd normally do an inventory check to see if anything was missing. Otherwise, how would you know that it was theft?"

Ah, finally something he had some expertise in. "Continuity. We watched the thief every step of the way so there was no mistake." With the exception of one minor detail. How was he supposed to know that no items were actually taken before the moment the rogue dashed off? The time it would of taken to find out if anything was stolen would of been much too long, the one responsible being long gone by that time. Of course despite his mentioning they ignored him, continuing on the tour. Not a lot of people were listening to him today. Not a lot of people listened to him any other day either.

"The first to third floors of this building are vacant. Look."

He saw exactly as she described. Nothing but an empty place. That in itself was very suspicious. The hell would someone be doing living in a house with this much space but nothing to use it for? That's a ridiculous waste of money for taxes that's not needed. He pondered in silence as he quietly shuffled his way along with the rest of them.

"The third floor was once a printing office. They moved out a few years back when the more modernized and larger skyscrapers were built in the city's central."

And this is all hers... Why? The more she spoke the more out of place everything seemed to be. As a matter of fact, there seemed to be an elevator but they were going up the stairs. Why are we even wasting time walking about when we could just take the elevator up?

"The fifth floor and rooftop are vacant. I mostly use it as storage and such."

Gah! The amount of space available compared to the amount of space being used was obscene. If this place wasn't a front for something then he'd be short the fifty bucks he'd probably bet on this place being a front for something.

After a little while longer on their tour she started to take them back down.

The elevator doesn't work and yet she still has all this space to herself? If this isn't front material I don't know what else would be. He was already suspicious of her. If nothing else just the sheer amount of space to occupancy was well out of reasonable proportion.

"Although, don't you want to attend to that dead guy you mentioned just now? It's a bad idea to leave it lying around lest it causes public uproar."

He didn't have anything to say about that. That was Jason's field, not his. Quite frankly since they haven't found the thief by this point whoever robbed the store and possibly killed that guy must of been long gone by this point unless he or she showed up by some miracle. Given his current state of pessimism he fully believed that a miracle wasn't going to happen. He had just wasted what had to amount to at least an hour or more accomplishing nothing. He was nothing short of downright pissed off but besides his sort of general frown he kept his eyes down and his hands in his pockets all the same. He had a firm reign over his temper at this moment, something he's gotten quite good at holding after all he's put up with in life.
