Appearance
Avery is a short bean pole. You can tell that she has plenty of room to grow, but the sad fact is that she has only grown one inch since about fifth grade. Her short stature only compliments her bubbly and chirpy personality. The most common thing you will find Avery wearing is a smile- showing off the rows of braces that support her teeth. Truth, she's currently stuck in an ugly duckling stage of life. Braces and all knees and elbows; with hardly and chest to speak of. Her personality outshines her lack of curves, by far. Avery loves to wear skinny jeans and converses, or sundresses and sandals. She's a huge fan of what she calls "comfortable fashion". It's quite normal to see her walking around in a shirt that is three sizes too big for her, paired with some leggings and flats. Her hair is a golden blonde and falls stick-straight down her back. When she's feeling fancy she takes the time to curl or crimp it, but that's only for special occasions.
Silver braces on both the top and bottom row of her teeth.
Personality
Avery is normally a very bubbly and upbeat girl. She enjoys playing with her siblings in their fantasy worlds, and getting lost in their dream world. She has incredible patience for her younger siblings and loves them with all of her heart. Family is the most important thing to her. Avery is very silly and light hearted but she gets serious quickly when she needs to. She prefers to lighten a dark mood with a joke or change of subject rather than let her siblings get too down in the dumps. She’s really taken on the role of Mom now that their mama has died. She’s become more serious around her siblings, but still maintains her playful big-sister attitude.
Among her siblings she is the one to defuse heated situations, when she can. She is a terrible liar to adults, but she can lie easily to her two younger siblings to keep them safe and happy. She is very afraid of snakes and spiders and hates being alone. She is terrified she is going to let her little sister and brother down. Due to being so bubbly, Avery is easily a people person. It is very easy for her to walk up to strangers and talk to them. She is slightly prideful, and does not like to admit when she’s wrong. She can also be a little over-protective of her siblings from time to time.
Avery has never liked nature. She prefers to be inside reading, or doing anything else. She has a real complex about being dirty, and she’s had to face her demons with this ever since their mother passed on. She is not very religious, but since ‘the incident’ she has found herself praying to God every night and toying with the golden cross around her neck (a gift from her mother on her 13th birthday). Avery is also very naïve. Although she believes she has a good grasp on how the world works- in reality she is still just a child herself. Even though she plays mom at home, she would have no idea what to do if she were to become a parent herself.
One of her greatest faults, or greatest virtues, is that she is incredibly generous. Avery loves to volunteer and has given her lunch (or lunch money) away more times than she can count. The one thing Avery loves more than anything else is being creative. Imagining new worlds with her siblings or building forts in the living room (because outside would be extremely dirty). She loves finding new uses for old objects, and it’s something she is actually good at.
# She is a virgin, but around her friends at school she pretends that she knows everything they know about sex.
# She tells everyone her mother died of cancer, but she actually committed suicide.

History
The Darlings had tried for two years after they got married to have a child, but to no avail. Desperate, they began taking fertility treatment and going to the doctor on a rigid schedule. Four months later- Avery was conceived. When she arrived, she was the apple of her father's eye; but her mother began to suffer from postpartum depression. This was when the mental institution trips began. When Avery was 8 her little sister was born. At first Avery resented the child- feeling as though her parents were trying to replace her. Then, just two years later, her little brother was born. Avery came to love her little siblings. It was when Avery turned 13 that her mother lost it. She had become completely insane. From then on, Avery's only trips to see her mother were in the mental ward, and sometimes behind glass for her protection. Mrs. Darling was only committed for three months before she hung herself from her bed frame with her dress. The little ones were told that their mother was very sick, and that she had died peacefully in her sleep. Avery had her own way to deal with her mother's dead- Lying. It was easier for kids at school to accept that her mother had died of cancer. That way, they pitied her. They wouldn't look at her like she was some freak child of a lunatic. Yes, it was better to lie and have people believe that her mother died fighting for her life.
After her mother's passing Avery became a mother like figure to her siblings, even though she was still very much a child herself. On the night of the accident Avery was coming home from school; riding the subway, as she did every week day. Nothing had seemed out of the ordinary that day. She had woken up, kissed her younger siblings and father goodbye and skipped off to school. School had gone by painfully slow- as always and nothing extraordinary happened. After the accident, Avery had rushed home to tell her father what had happened, and to assure him that she was alright. When she arrived at their apartment, no one answered when she buzzed for the door to open.
"Hello? Papa? It's me, I'm home. Buzz me in!" No response. "Hello? Papa? Are you in? Papa?" Still no answer. Exasperated, Avery turned to the doorman and offered her best smile. " Mr. Young, can you buzz me in? I think Papa's asleep or something and I forgot my key this morning?" The elderly Asian man squinted his eyes at her, tilting his head to the side. "What are you talking about, child? Move along. We don't give handouts here- this isn't a safe house, now get out." Avery took a step back, eyes wide with shock. "Mr. Young, I just forgot my key, please-" "-- I said GET OUT! Now move it before I call the cops, kid! Scram! I've never seen you before in my life. Out!" Terrified as the elderly man raised his cane in her direction, she bolted for the road, wide and teary eyed.
When the woman in white came to her, she was huddled on a Safe House cot, tucked away from everyone else and questioning if she had gone mad too- like her mother. With no where else to go, she followed her ring... the rest is, as they say, history.
