Introduction
It is said that giant ships appeared in the sky, and that bright lights rained down on earth, shattering our cities, boiling our waters, until someone fired back, sending our own shining lights into the sky. When our weapons hit those lights it is said that the sky itself caught fire, and that over two thirds of humanity was lost in those flames. A short time later the sky ships plummeted to earth as well, and since then they have disappeared.
In the time that followed this event, what we now call the Blinding, humanity was changed. Maybe it was because of the lights, or the fire, or maybe our own weapons did this, but we were changed. It didn't happen all at once, and not to every man, woman, and child, but soon people with odd powers emerged. At first they were thought of as gods, or demons, but then it grew so common people stopped caring what they were. People with such powers have since become shunned by society in most small towns and villages, but they can become wealthy and famous if they know the right cities to visit.
And what might these powers be? It is called alchemy, the ability to understand how materials and substances are put together, then learning how to take them apart and rebuild them into something else. With these abilities a person could turn lead into gold, water into wine...but they could also create untold horrors. Some say that if a person were skilled enough, and twisted enough, that they could even combine living beasts into a creature called a chimera, a soulless demon that will listen to no one but their creator.
This new earth has become full of alchemists and inventors, and has virtually been taken back to what some might call the industrial revolution. No one has cars, but they do have horses and buggies. Clockwork machines and steam engines are some of the most advanced technologies on the planet now. In some places lords or kings have taken over, some places there is now true leader.
Alchemists, those with these strange abilities, often have odd dreams where they are wandering through the mountains somewhere. They find a door, open it, and discover a truth that could divide the world. Some alchemists use this dream as their driving force. They dream of finding these mountains and that gateway and learning such secrets, and so many of them travel, most of their lives, searching for it.

Basically this is an idea I came up with that partially has to do with the anime/manga series Fullmetal Alchemist, with a few major twists, as you can tell. A tragic event occurred some time in the past, during our time, and now, in a drastically altered future, in a world much like that of FMA, people have developed the ability to understand things no human could, or should, be able to understand.
They are able to focus their minds and bodies and transmute things. No one is exactly sure how this happens, but it seems that the more people use their powers the more skilled they become, but in certain areas.
For instance, if a person used their powers on metals, changing the type of metal, repairing rust, etc., then they would gain more knowledge in that area of alchemy than another person would. This can happen with just about anything, again, like FMA. Even elements, fire, water, earth, wind, lighting, etc. can be created with alchemy if a person knows how.
The plot for this roleplay is that when the Blinding occurred, one of the sky ships crashed to earth but remained mostly intact. It was buried almost completely in the crater it created, turning it into a mountain, which has since become a part of a mountain range somewhere in the world. The alchemists receive messages from this ship in their dreams, dreams that draw them towards the ship in hope that they will learn a grand secret that can 'divide the world.'
People take this many ways, but the truth is this: when the Blinding happened a combination of our radioactive weapons and the lights the sky ships used crossed our DNA with the aliens, giving us these powers. In the mountain ship is a living red stone, a remnant from their home world, which will reveal this secret and terraform part of the world, making it like the home world of the alchemists.
And so alchemists are looking for this red stone. Some know the truth, or think they do, and others don't even know they're looking for it.
You can be an alchemist or a normal person. You can be from any sort of society you think of, and as people join their homelands will be added to the map which you can find in an OOC soon after this rp is posted.
Character Sheet-
Name:
Age:
Race: (human or alchemist)
Appearance: (alchemists often have oddly colored eyes, hair, and/or skin...this section should contain your characters physical appearance as well as they clothing they are prone to wearing)
Personality: (optional, can reveal though the rp)
Equipment: (anything you carry with you)
Alchemic Abilities: (whatever your best at, alchemy-wise, please choose only one or two)
History: (what is your character's past, what are their goals, why are they doing whatever they are doing now, doesn't have to be all that long...if there is a reason others would know you add that here)
Other: (anything else you'd like to add)
Alchemy works like this-
You can look at something and understand its molecular makeup and how to change it as you like, as long as you have some basic prior knowledge. To transmute you make up your mind on what you want to do and place your hand in the thing you want to transmute, then it is engulfed in white light. When the light disappears it is changed.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask, either through PM or in the OOC section.

"Besides, I could easily kill you. The problem would surely be the dog." Duster said, somewhat pathetic at the statement that he couldn't attack because of a walking bunch of scrap metal.
"God damn." he muttered, while lowering his gun slightly, still holding it in case the alchemist was lying.
"What's wrong with your kind anyways?" he asked, looking at the bunch of beat down people.
Two of them lay in the grass... was that the chimera that'd been chasing him wild a pair of minutes ago?
He looked at the whole bunch. Surely none, of the people assembled would be able to do much.
Duster sighed.
"Have any of you seen Alderic?" he asked, hoping that they knew where the giant was.

"What in the hell is going on?" Looking down she spotted Tora on the ground. "When did you get here?" Her green eyes, dull from using so much of her alchemic energy, were narrowed. "And why does he have a gun?"

He then looked at Adam. A deep sigh came from Duster.
"Why does this allways happen to me." he muttered grumpily.
He then raised his head.
"Why are you people even out here!?" He asked, sounding more accusing than anything.
"I understand that you fled from the inn, but why have you gone this far into the woods?"
He lowered his gun a litlle more, it seemed that the dog was keeping its distance.

And I got a gun, because I feel like it!"
He retorted, first to Adam, then to Hatsune.
"Now please tell me! Have you seen Alderic? He's ... very big..."

"By the by," Adam added, almost as an afterthought, "if you work for Hovernia, what're you doing pointing a gun in my face? I'm Kestren, and last I heard Kestre and Hovernia were on friendly terms."

"Well, he and I have a mutual need for eachother, although I can't see how. Now please, where did he go?"
Duster opened his eyes wide at the statement about Hovernia.
"Who said I work for Hovernia?
I said I was Hovernian, that's all." Duster said, grinning deviously.
"And Hovernia allways stay neutral. They never take side in any other matters than their own."
He brought his gun down, sure that they were done fighting.
"I point a gun at you because your damned dog attacked me, and you impaled my leg."
Duster said, poking softly at his bandage with his new walking stick.

"To be fair," said Adam, "it's really not that hard to tell that you work for the Hovernian government; your movement and the way you hold yourself all suggest military training. That, and you pistol is standard issue for Hovernian special agents."
"I point a gun at you because your damned dog attacked me, and you impaled my leg."
"Yes," replied Adam, "I stabbed you in the leg because you hit me in the back of the head with your gun. Silf's currently growling at you for the same reason. Like I said earlier, I didn't do anything to you. You attacked me.
"Any way, you asked your question and now it's my turn-" Adam was about to ask, but was interrupted by voices shouting from the direction of the town.
"Looks like you're gonna owe me an answer, friend," said Adam, laboriously getting to his feet. "Looks like those soldiers have regrouped. You coming with us, or are you going off to look for your friend?"

I answered your question about why I was pointing a guun to your head.
Second, I could've shot you dead, but I only sent you out black. Don't be a sissy.
Third... Do you know how many of these that are produced? That doesn't count as a question, for surely you have no clue.
But there's enough in every weapon depot of Hovernia to equip an army. Far enough for me to steal without getting noticed.
Also... I cut ties with the Hovernian government long times ago." He said.
Duster looked at the others, then at Adam.
"Do I look like I
'm in any kind of shape to go anywhere?" He retorted in mock over Adam's question.
"Surely you must've noticed that I am limping." He said, scowling at the man in front of him.

Adam turned to Silf. "Stay here and make sure he doesn't follow us for a few minutes, then catch up." He reached into a pocket, pulled out a flask, and took a small sip. He soon found energy returning to his body. He offered the flask to Hatsune.
"Just take a small sip," he said. "Doctor friend of mine gave me this to test out. It's a stimulant, but a damn strong one. Don't know what'll happen if you drink too much, but I wouldn't take my chances."

I got my own orders to follow, and my own ways to travel."
Duster said, shifting so he could get a hold of his bag, grabbing a compass from his bag, and looked at it.
"Alderic might remember what I said... I hope he'll make it to the station..."
Duster muttered quietly, and then began limping off in a northern direction.
He stuffed his gun into its holster, and waved a hand back at the weird pack of people, shouting to them.
"I hope our ways won't cross again! For next time I'll be out killing, not finding!"
He then countinued into the woods, eyes and ears open, hoping to catch a hint of where Alderic was.

"He drop any hints about why he attacked me while I was gone?" he asked. Adam handed the stimulant to Tora once Hatsune was done.
"This is still experimental," he said, "but a little bit goes a long way. A small sip should give you enough energy to get out of here." Adam reached into his pocket and produced what appeared to be a pocket watch. He pressed a button on the side of the device and flipped the lid open.
"North's that way," he said, pointing. "And I've been living to the north for a little while now. If we can lose the soldiers, we can rest at my place and then..." Adam's face took on a puzzled expression.
"Tell the truth, I hadn't really thought about what to do next," he said with a little chuckle. "At any rate, the three of you are welcome to stay until you figure out what you want to do next. It'll be nice to have some company."
Once Tora was done with the stimulant, Adam took the flask and placed it in the pocket it came from. He picked up his duffel bag after returning his journals to their rightful place and began walking north.
"Hope we don't run into that angry bloke again," he said to no one in particular.
