Introduction
It is said that giant ships appeared in the sky, and that bright lights rained down on earth, shattering our cities, boiling our waters, until someone fired back, sending our own shining lights into the sky. When our weapons hit those lights it is said that the sky itself caught fire, and that over two thirds of humanity was lost in those flames. A short time later the sky ships plummeted to earth as well, and since then they have disappeared.
In the time that followed this event, what we now call the Blinding, humanity was changed. Maybe it was because of the lights, or the fire, or maybe our own weapons did this, but we were changed. It didn't happen all at once, and not to every man, woman, and child, but soon people with odd powers emerged. At first they were thought of as gods, or demons, but then it grew so common people stopped caring what they were. People with such powers have since become shunned by society in most small towns and villages, but they can become wealthy and famous if they know the right cities to visit.
And what might these powers be? It is called alchemy, the ability to understand how materials and substances are put together, then learning how to take them apart and rebuild them into something else. With these abilities a person could turn lead into gold, water into wine...but they could also create untold horrors. Some say that if a person were skilled enough, and twisted enough, that they could even combine living beasts into a creature called a chimera, a soulless demon that will listen to no one but their creator.
This new earth has become full of alchemists and inventors, and has virtually been taken back to what some might call the industrial revolution. No one has cars, but they do have horses and buggies. Clockwork machines and steam engines are some of the most advanced technologies on the planet now. In some places lords or kings have taken over, some places there is now true leader.
Alchemists, those with these strange abilities, often have odd dreams where they are wandering through the mountains somewhere. They find a door, open it, and discover a truth that could divide the world. Some alchemists use this dream as their driving force. They dream of finding these mountains and that gateway and learning such secrets, and so many of them travel, most of their lives, searching for it.
-=-=-
Basically this is an idea I came up with that partially has to do with the anime/manga series Fullmetal Alchemist, with a few major twists, as you can tell. A tragic event occurred some time in the past, during our time, and now, in a drastically altered future, in a world much like that of FMA, people have developed the ability to understand things no human could, or should, be able to understand.
They are able to focus their minds and bodies and transmute things. No one is exactly sure how this happens, but it seems that the more people use their powers the more skilled they become, but in certain areas.
For instance, if a person used their powers on metals, changing the type of metal, repairing rust, etc., then they would gain more knowledge in that area of alchemy than another person would. This can happen with just about anything, again, like FMA. Even elements, fire, water, earth, wind, lighting, etc. can be created with alchemy if a person knows how.
The plot for this roleplay is that when the Blinding occurred, one of the sky ships crashed to earth but remained mostly intact. It was buried almost completely in the crater it created, turning it into a mountain, which has since become a part of a mountain range somewhere in the world. The alchemists receive messages from this ship in their dreams, dreams that draw them towards the ship in hope that they will learn a grand secret that can 'divide the world.'
People take this many ways, but the truth is this: when the Blinding happened a combination of our radioactive weapons and the lights the sky ships used crossed our DNA with the aliens, giving us these powers. In the mountain ship is a living red stone, a remnant from their home world, which will reveal this secret and terraform part of the world, making it like the home world of the alchemists.
And so alchemists are looking for this red stone. Some know the truth, or think they do, and others don't even know they're looking for it.
You can be an alchemist or a normal person. You can be from any sort of society you think of, and as people join their homelands will be added to the map which you can find in an OOC soon after this rp is posted.
Character Sheet-
Name:
Age:
Race: (human or alchemist)
Appearance: (alchemists often have oddly colored eyes, hair, and/or skin...this section should contain your characters physical appearance as well as they clothing they are prone to wearing)
Personality: (optional, can reveal though the rp)
Equipment: (anything you carry with you)
Alchemic Abilities: (whatever your best at, alchemy-wise, please choose only one or two)
History: (what is your character's past, what are their goals, why are they doing whatever they are doing now, doesn't have to be all that long...if there is a reason others would know you add that here)
Other: (anything else you'd like to add)
Alchemy works like this-
You can look at something and understand its molecular makeup and how to change it as you like, as long as you have some basic prior knowledge. To transmute you make up your mind on what you want to do and place your hand in the thing you want to transmute, then it is engulfed in white light. When the light disappears it is changed.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask, either through PM or in the OOC section.

As he placed the bandages, he looked up at Alderic.
"There's a small trainstation up north. Its used by the areas farmers, for when their crops are going to the market. I know some people there who can help us get on a train to Jericho... Or at least Alkara..." Duster said, looking quizically on Alderic.

"I gave him my word that he'd survive, and letting him lie there bleeding wouldn't be too good." Duster said with genuine consern.
As he placed the bandages, he looked up at Alderic.
"There's a small train-station up north. Its used by the areas farmers, for when their crops are going to the market. I know some people there who can help us get on a train to Jericho... Or at least Alkara..." Duster said, looking quizzically on Alderic.
"What do you say?"
Immediately for Alderic, the order of things was a priority factor to him. What would come from his mouth initially was this:
"Why do you keep your 'word' for someone that wouldn't have done the same for you? Is it from some misplaced sense of ethics you you think you are honoring? Be truthful with yourself. How many people have died because of their ignorance? Despite what a human's sense of 'honor' is, its easily misguided. He would have gladly turned you in, and for what? A few more coins to line his purse? My master was right. Humans are completely ignorant. Its no wonder your species developed an all knowing being. They needed something or, someone rather to keep the species itself from doing something too foolish. Something like 'honor' has no place in a world like this one. Lets get going, if we are to get on the train, we should hurry along then."

"And you were Hovernian? You know what, if you are oh so all-knowing, then tell me! Do you still know right from wrong? Do you still feel anger when the weak is being oppresed? You aren't even near perfection! You're just another high-assed idiot. I won't ever go anywhere with the likes of you. YOU MAKE ME SICK!" Duster yelled at him, his voice trembling under the wrath inside him.
Who was this man, to throw away the most important thing in a human?

But he needed saved. Swallowing hard, Hatsune let her hands drift onto the ground. She wouldn't touch them unless she absolutely had to. Hatsune finally lifted her eyes, still glossed over, and scowled.
"Okay. I'm ready." Her voice was low, like a whisper, holding back something dangerous inside. "Just, whatever you do, do not touch me until I say you can." Licking her lips, readying her body for a fight, Hatsune sighed and released the alchemical energy within her body into the ground below. There was a great rumbling, as if a volcano were preparing to blow its top. The two alchemists bodies began to shake, Hatsune keeping a firm center in her stomach so she wouldn't fall over. Suddenly, the ground broke open feet away from them, just under a small group of soldiers. Bits of rock and dirt flew through the sky as the cracking earth's crust made them trip and fall and loose focus on the task at hand.
"Now's your chance!" Hatsune yelled and stood up. As soon as her hands let off the ground, the shaking stopped. Soldiers were left screaming out, running around like mice in a maze. The two holding her new friend, because she wouldn't save just anybody, didn't let go of him. Hatsune hadn't thought of exactly how to carry him to safety because she knew very well that she couldn't pull him, let alone carry the large man. Running toward him, Hatsune found herself without much of a fight. This was too easy.

"What is labeled as 'right' or labeled 'wrong' has long been placed under humanity's fallible scrutiny." Alderic responded with a cold indifference. " Through out this world's very existence, your so called righteousness has been called to the bidding of genocidal megalomaniac's whose only true concern was their own self justification. Wars have been fought in the name of "God" and supreme justice. While unlawful, I would even dare say cruel practices of interrogating suspects until forcefully coerced into total submission because their views simply were different. And I make you sick? Am I to be labeled a condescending person because I am not so ignorant to believe that humanity can change for the better- as a whole? No, sir, you are mistaken. You are an animal. Nothing more. Nothing less. You are fundamentally the same as me."
Alderic's eyes then took a different shape. Becoming more almond and cat-like. Hos body contorted, and by the looks of it, immersed him in intense pain. His bulky, yet agile body bolstered itself, bracing before a rapid expansion of muscle made him three sizes larger than even a well muscled human would have surely been. His canines extended to four inches long and as big around as a man's middle finger. He grew to nearly eight feet tall. His gloves, no longer able to restrain the growth of his hands, exploded, tearing apart.
He stood before Duster a Chimera. A human transmuted into an animal.
" Your ideals of 'justice' as well s your ideals off 'oppression' sicken me. Humans are an intolerable species. But I share no direct malice with them. I feel nothing. This is what I am. A guinea pig, an experiment. This is the truth. No rationalizing with what is done to me. Its not about what is right or wrong. Its about balance. Your tiny mind only grasps a small perception of your world. But the truth is, you will never right all the wrong doings, or take back all the mistakes. Maybe I do sicken you, but all for the better. Because you shouldn't trust me. I am a true monster. I am free of your 'humanity'."

The woman continued to advance on the two soldiers holding the man they were trying to rescue; it was obvious that she fully intended to kill them. It took a lot to actually scare Adam. Not because he was particularly brave, but because his emotions shut off for the most part whenever he perceived a threat. This woman definitely terrified him. He had a sneaking suspicion that creating a localized earthquake was the least she could do.
"Hope she never gets that mad at me," thought Adam, who had momentarily forgotten about the journals.

As Alderic transformed, Duster stepped back.
"Now I see what you are... You are an abomination, created by a mans thirst for power." Duster said, stepping backwards, as to trying to get away from the beast in front of him.
"You may be free of humanity, or at least partially. Don't think I didn't notice you spared me! There's still something inside you, not bound by the beast you where fused with.
You may seem to be an abomination, but feelings are what makes you a being. Do you still feel anything, or don't you WANT to feel anything? You try to hide behind logic, as you can't grasp what it means to have purpose, and to have something to fight for! I would've taken my own life long ago, if not for my purpose. The grand scheme that I am woven into may not be revealed easily, but I will continue, for I know that I may die in vain like many before me has, but I will at least TRY to make a difference. And I will achieve this, by dying if it must be so." Duster said, staring into the feline eyes.
In the silence that followed the long speech he'd held, he heard the faint sound of explosives. He turned his head in the direction he think he'd heard it.

"I'm sorry." Her voice was choked, but it came out in a small whisper. Closing her eyes, holding back tears, Hatsune put her hand on his exposed face. It was only seconds, but it felt like years. The energy flowed gently through her and made its way into his body. She knew what he would be feeling. Blood boiling. Skin tearing. His soul ready to depart from his flesh and leave to the Heavens. The mist that his body became instantly was fresh blood and her skin was covered in the red life. Taking in deep breaths since his hands had disappeared from her throat, Hatsune turned over and saw the other soldier.
"No, please..." She begged, the tears finally falling down her cheeks. They turned red, mixing in with the blood of her victim. "Please, stop looking at me like that." The memory of her best friend, a little boy with bright red hair, came to. His eyes had looked the same as the soldier's. Frightened. Shocked. As if a monster stood before them. Biting her lip, spitting out the blood she'd taken into her mouth because of that action, Hatsune stood up, wiping the tears from her eyes. Her clothes were lightly misted with blood and her hair was died a strange brown color.
With tears still streaming down her face she walked over to the stranger and turned him on his back. "Hey!" She sobbed. "Hey wake up! We have to go and I can't carry you!" She was begging him through her tears. The other soldiers, the ones not dead yet, were starting to focus back on their task. They only had minutes to make it up and out of harm's way.

He crouched next to her, slowly extending his mechanical arm around her back to embrace her, then thought better of it and patter her on the back. "It's alright," he said, not quite believing himself. "What you did didn't look pleasant, but they got what they deserved. I've seen these blokes kill children, once they even tore a three year old from her mother's arms and threw her off a cliff. If you hadn't done that, your friend would be dead. Don't worry about carrying him; Tora and I can help him walk.
"You stayed in that motel there, right? I think I remember hearing you sing a couple of times, you're really good. I got some of my best ideas listening to your music. Why don't you go and get your things? I'll help your friend up."
Adam still failed to remember what he had done to the woman's room.
Adam stored the revolver in its compartment and made another quick motion with his wrist. This time, a two foot blade popped out just above his wrist. The blade was obviously made for combat, but Adam had used it to cut himself free many times before. He set to work freeing the large chimera in front of him.

"So which am I, human?" His feline purr was heard once again, this time the corners of his lips curved revealing monstrous canines. " Human, or animal?" He would keep marching towards Duster as he kept retreating, his eyes undeniably feral, savage like a wild animals. But there was an almost human-like reluctance to an all out attack. Like he were expecting something from Duster.
With the abrupt explosion, the tiger reared his head, his mouth agape, breathing in the air and filling his perception. He smelt sulfur and an overpowering aroma of smoke. His massive form then turned towards the eruption, looking back at Duster as if to say "What are you waiting for?"
(Sorry Narrow, for the wait! )

He still had his gun in hand, as he closed in on the place where the sound had come from, he could smell the explosives.
He began to sneak, there was no telling if it was the soldiers who used it or not.
Duster reached a bush of shrub, he hid behind it, peeking out at the folk in the clearing.
Seemed like they'd executed the soldiers.
Duster felt a sting in his heart. Had he looked the same when he'd done that kind of thing.
He began to sweat a little, aiming his gun at the group in the clearing.
A crying girl sat in the middle. It was actually quite heartbreaking... If he at least had felt so.
Dusters trained sight, instantly went for the one he marked as the biggest threat. A guy with a metal arm. What kind of evil contraptions couldn't be confined to such a thing.
Duster sat still, viewing the people out there.
"Amateurs..." his subconciousness let him think.

Rising slowly the 7'5 chimera turns to face Hatsune. Letting out a roar he charges towards her, intent on killing. Raising his claws he swings at her , only to have them stop a inch away from her face. Whatever was left of the human Cale had stopped the beast. He leans in close and stares at the girl's face covered in tears something connecting in his mind. She had saved him not once but twice, surely this meant something maybe if stayed with her , she could teach him how to be human. Slowly backing away to not scare her he slowly puts his giant feral hand out towards her, like she had done for him back at the inn. As he does this his nose catches the smell of sweat and gunpowder coming from the nearby bushes. Someone was watching them and by the smell of it was probably armed. Growling he runs on all fours towards the scent.

But as the chimera charged towards him, he was nearly pissing his own pants.
He rose, his gun ready in his hands, he fired a rapid series of shots, going after the legs of the giant creature, he also sent one for the torso.
He then stopped as the creature was 20 metres from him, he turned around and fled, as fast as his legs could carry him.
Even the backpack couldn't hold him back in his wild flight from the monster.

Alderic was nearly eight and a half feet tall, and well built. The Chimera charging was also a formidable size. Much bigger than any ordinary man. Well muscled. He was also a feline. Alderic's tail flowed back and forth, while his legs, while bent, were spread at shoulders length apart. His broad, brawny arms held outwards. If it were to leap at him, he could crush it; snapping its spine and folding it backwards. If it hadn't, he'd still be ready to fight or give chase.

Adam instantly stood and turned when he heard the shots, holding a fighting stance. He was out of ranged attacks, but he could at least look intimidating. He failed to notice the transformed chimera behind him until it roared. He was knocked over by its charge, but quickly scrambled to his feet with his blade at the ready. He was fully intent of attacking the monster to give the woman a chance to flee, but stopped when he noticed that the chimera wasn't attacking her.
Adam remembered when he was a child, his brother had found a copy of Frankenstein and Adam had insisted that he read it to him before bed each night. His brother had refused at first, saying that he didn't want to give Adam nightmares, but he could never refuse Adam for long. Adam almost instantly took a liking to Frankenstein's monster: realizing that it was horribly misunderstood by both its creator and the people around it.
This chimera reminded him of Frankenstein's monster: it was misunderstood and its violent outburst was caused by fear, not anger. While lost in memory, Adam had lost track of Silf.
"Great," he muttered to himself. "Now I've got to go find him."

"Ayeeee!" he yelled, jumping at least a metre up the air. As he checked what it was, he noticed a dog, growling at him.
"Go play with someone your own size." Duster said, raising his gun to point at the dog. "You might get hurt."

"...but they got what they deserved." Hatsune turned to the young man with the strange arm. How long had he been sitting there? It was a wonder because she hadn't even heard him speaking to her. "I've seen those blokes kill children..." His voice faded away, back into the world she couldn't remember anymore. He was trying to comfort her. It was sweet and Hatsune would not soon forget it. But she needed to get herself out of this place. Away from those men. She needed to find peace, if not for but a moment. Then her new friend began to stir. It brought her eyes wide, her lips to twitch with the threat of a smile. Reaching forward, her hand just about to touch him, Hatsune was shocked to find him changing. Becoming something else she feared.
Dammit! Why was this place becoming one giant nightmare of her past? Was she being punished for killing? Was this what she--
Her thoughts all stopped simultaneously as the stranger stood up, huge, monstrous, and all cat-like muscles rippling, readying to attack. It only took Hatsune seconds to realize he was going after her, and just a few more seconds to make the decision that she would die gracefully at his hands. Closing her eyes, tears still falling, she waited for the blow only to feel nothing but a rush of air. Tendrils of her teal colored hair flew around her face and her bangs fluttered slowly back down over her forehead. Hatsune lifted her lids and looked up into his eyes, seeing something human in there. She saw regret and hope all mixed into one person and she took his outstretched hand. Unsure of why she'd taken it, Hatsune suddenly flung herself in his body and buried her sobbing face into his fur. The young woman only had a few brief moments of comfort and relief before the man gently pushed her away and took off in a full sprint toward the line of trees they'd just recently left. Gunshots fired and Hatsune, bewildered and frightened, dropped to the ground, her hands filled with instant alchemic energies. The ground began to shake again, and giant slates of rock rose up to block the man with the gun. What Hatsune hadn't realized was that she trapped him inside the makeshift jail cell with the mechanical dog of her friend with the mechanical arm.
Confusion still boiling her blood, Hatsune stood up and swallowed. Her tears were slowed and she could actually see what was going on now. The chimera had disappeared into the woods and she turned around to look at the other young man who'd protected her from the other soldiers.
"He's fallen unconscious," she stated, kneeling down and placing her hand on his forehead. "Um... I don't know you're name," she called to the man with the strange accent. In fact, she knew no one's name but her own. "Come help me sit him up." Her voice was flat, still writhing with every emotion available within her.

"Name's Adam Langley," he said, smiling at the fact that the woman was feeling better. "Sorry, in all of the excitement, I forgot to introduce myself. This is Tora we're helping up here, his dog should be around here somewhere. The dogs are Sparky and Silf; Sparky's the one that's flesh and blood, he belongs to Tora, Silf's mine, he's the mechanical one. Don't know where he's run off to. I designed him not to go too far from me without being told to, so he should be back soon."
As he talked, Adam remembered the journals. "Oh! Right! I wanted to give these back to you." He ran back to his duffel bag, retrieved the journals, and gave them to the woman.

He smiled. "Oh no, I'm not going to die. You are." he said, raising the gun, and fired at the 'dogs' head.
The dog fell to the ground, but only for a second, then it rose again, only a hole and some minor damage, nothing too bad.
It growled.
"Uh oh." Duster said, as the 'dog' jumped up on him.
It began snapping at him, but Duster had tried something like this before.
He reached out around the neck of the beast and wrought it around.
. . . Nothing, it just wrenched itself back and began again.
Duster opened his eyes wide open. How the hell?
He then wrestled it over, and put his left knee on its neck, and his right on its torso.
"Now you stay." he said, looking at it more closely now.
It looked like the inside of a clockwork.
As the 'dog' wriggled underneath him, he took at twig, and set it in between two cogs.
The dog stopped squirming.
"Whew. What is that thing anyway?" he asked himself out loud.

"Oh thank you! Thank you!" Hatsune wasn't one for personal space, so anyone with a thing against hugging was out of luck around her. Giving him one last squeeze, she looked back at her journals and flipped through each one, checking for torn pages, missing pieces, or new scribbles that weren't her own. Her life lay within those pages. If the wrong person got a hold of them and her, she was screwed.
"You have no idea how much this means, thank you so much!" She tried to wipe more blood from her face, but all to no avail. How badly she wanted to take a shower, but now that would be pointless. Licking her lips, Hatsune looked around, assessing the gruesome scene and then looked back at Adam.
"It seems my friend found someone in the woods. We should go and make sure he's okay. If you help me, I think we can carry Tora into the woods for safety." Tying her journals to her belt loop, that's when she noticed the beaten up guitar on her back. Swinging it off she groaned and sighed, "not again... You poor thing." Hatsune set it on the ground and rubbed her hands together, the static electricity building in her arms like it always did. Placing them on the instrument, it seemed to heal instanty. The white light made Hatsune have to squint since she was so close.
"There, all better!" Pulling it back over her head, Hatsune bent over Tora and grabbed an arm. "Let's go. He could be in there anywhere. We just saved his life..." Hatsune's voice trailed off, remembering the vile way she had to protect herself and her nameless friend. "We can't have him risking it now." With a groan, she started to lift up on Tora and had him awkwardly dangling from her side. "My name's Hatsune, by the way."
