Role: Captain
Name: Tyra Vis
Nickname: Ty, Ma'am, Boss, the Witch (but not to her face)
Gender: Female
Age: 36
Height: 5â 9â
Weight: 155 lbs
Nationality: Iskadale
Appearance: Tall and leanly muscled, Tyra is an imposing character. She carries herself with slow grace, which makes her sudden flurries of action all the more surprising when they do occur. Her face is invariably creased in a frown, with a pout on her full lips and a penetrating glare burning beneath thick, strong eyebrows. Her long hair is invariably braided off her forehead and out of her eyes.
Abilities: Having grown up rich and then trained in business, Tyra is used to having her orders obeyed. She is a ruthless negotiator and effortless leader. The crew do what she says not out of fear - although that is a weapon in her arsenal - but out of respect, and the knowledge that Tyra wouldn't ask of them anything she wouldn't do herself. She is used to handling the Jackal, and is familiar (though not expert) with its mechanics. She is trained in small-arms fire, thought not by any means a crack shot.
History: Fifty years ago, Tyra's father Byron was one of the most notorious smugglers in Falloran, making illicit trades across the continent for larger and larger sums, cunningly evading capture as his fleet - and his legend - grew. As is the way in a plutocracy like Iskadale, though, the vast fortune he accumulated began to legitimise him, and, by paying the right bribes to the right people, Byron entered straight society as a shipping magnate. His ascension was complete when he married the daughter of a high-ranking Iskadale governor. Though it was a political match, the uncouth smuggler fell hard for the young woman, discovering a love greater than the thrill of the chase.
Tyra's mother died shortly before her first birthday, of a wasting disease Byron's riches could do nothing to alleviate. From that moment on, the loving father resolved to include Tyra in every aspect, every moment of his life, to be mother as well as father to their child. By hiring the best private tutors, Byron was able to keep Tyra by his side at all times, and also educate his daughter exactly as he wished, molding her into his business successor.
When the war broke out, Tyra had graduated to second-in-command of Vis Shipping, and lobbied strongly for putting the shipping fleet at the disposal of the Coalition of Brinn as her grandfather was insisting; Byron was reluctant to put their fate in his father-in-law's hands. At first the relationship was profitable for Vis Shipping, the deliveries straight-forward, the pay prompt. But as the conflict dragged on, vehicles and crew members alike started to be lost, and payments were delayed, postponed or, at the height of the war, simply not mentioned at all. Finally, Byron withdrew Vis Shipping's services entirely; a week later, the governor's forces raided the premises, commandeered every vehicle in sight, and arrested Byron. The Jackal, under repairs at the time, was spared. Tyra took the last remaining asset of her father's business and has been scratching out a living since.
Loyalty: Once decidedly in favour of the Coalition of Brinn, Tyra lost her loyalty as the war dragged on and more and more senseless destruction was wrought. Now, she feels loyalty to such a nebulous concept as a nation or a coalition seems ridiculously naive to Tyra. Her first loyalty is to her missing father; her second to her crew.
Personality:
Family: Her father, Byron, is the only family Tyra has ever known. Although she hasn't seen or heard from or of him in years, she believes he is still alive, and still holds out hope of finding him somewhere in Iskadale.
